Unable to see OC4J Instances in ascontrol -- Urgent

Hi
Iam not able to see the OC4J instances running in ascontrol.
They are shown in default group as running.
adopmnctl status shows the below status as alive.
--------------------------------------------------------------+---------
ias-component | process-type | pid | status
--------------------------------------------------------------+---------
OC4JGroup:default_group | OC4J:oafm | 2383 | Alive
OC4JGroup:default_group | OC4J:forms | 2382 | Alive
OC4JGroup:default_group | OC4J:oacore | 2381 | Alive
HTTP_Server | HTTP_Server | 2380 | Alive
**** If click applications-> forms this shows me the below error.
Unable to login to the OC4J "forms" on Application Server "xxxxxxxxxxx"; the OC4J is not running.
**** If I click on default_group I get the below error.
A connection could not established to some members of the Group default_group. Common causes for this failure are an authentication error or a JMX protocol mismatch.
The administrator password for each OC4J instance in the Group must be the same as the administrator password for the OC4J instance on which ascontrol is running.
The JMX protocol is specified by the property oracle.oc4j.jmx.internal.connection.protocol and the remote OC4J instance must be configured to use that protocol.
Anyone had this issue, or any guess what might be wrong.I tried changing the oc4jadmin password with setup but still shows the error.
Thanks
Sree

Hi,
Was this working before? If yes, any changes have been done recently?
Did you complete the steps as per this document?

• Unable to create OC4J instance - out of sync instance

RDBMS Version: 9.2.0.0
Operating System: W2K
Product Version: 9.0.4.0.0
JDK Version: 1.4.2_03
Error number: ADMN 705021
Hi
I am trying to create an OC4J instance using EM. When I do, I receive the
following error message:
The operation failed...<instance_name>. See base exception for details. Root
cause: Error encountered executing command <oracle_home>\bin\emtcgtcl -add
<oracle_home> -EMDROOT <oracle_home>_agent. Error in writing input.
I issued a dcmctl listcomponents command at this point and the container I
was trying to create shows in the list. I also issued dcmctl updateconfig
and getstate commands. I then get a ADMN 705021 error: The configuration
files for this 10g instance are inconsistent with the configuration shared
in the repository...Check the logs at $ORACLE_HOME\dcm\logs.
To try and resolve the problem, I used note 238393.1 Troubleshooting DCM
Repository Out of Sync Errors. I checked all configuration files existed.I
then checked the repository components list, creating fake directories for
those components that showed using dcmctl listcomponents, and then
consequently removed those components. When I removed them, I would receive
an ADMN 906025 error, but the component would be removed. I checked that the
deployed applications list was correct using dcmctl listapplications, and it
was. However I would also receive the following error message:
java.io.FileNotFoundException:
<Oracle_Home>\j2ee\home\application-deployment\wp\jazn-data.tmp (The system
cannot find the path specified). The directory wp does not exist, so this
message is accurate.
I'm kind of at a loss where to start given all these error messages. I guess
what I need to do is get the instance in sync somehow, and then hopefully be
able to create an oc4j instance.
Can anyone suggest an approach given the detail above?
Regards
Andy

Andy,
Check the state of your repository using 'dcmctl getState' command. If you get an error or 'In Sync Status' for one of the component is shown as 'false', try to resync the instance using 'dcmctl resyncInstance'.
If resyncInstance succeed, remove the OC4J instance/component that you were trying to add initially and create it again using removeComponent and createComponent commands.
If resyncInstance fails, shutdown (if possible) all OracleAS instances in DCM-Managed OracleAS Cluster (if any). Shutdown all process of the instance (using 'opmnctl stopall' command) including OracleAS Control Console (using 'emctl stop iasconsole') and start the instances again (using 'opmnctl startall' and 'opmnctl startproc ias-component=dcm-daemon'). Remember to first start the OracleAS instance that is acting as repository host for File-based repository (if any).
Now check the instance state, list of components and list of applications. If problem persist, please contact Oracle Support by logging a TAR to further diagnose and help resolve this issue.

• Unable to start oc4j instance

Hi,
My application was running well. But since last two days oc4j instance is not starting up.
I reinstalled developer suite 10g release 2. But the problem is still there.
A flash comes when i click start oc4j instance. Even i m not able to read the messages coming on the screen & the oc4j window is closed.
My report server is not starting. I have tried to make report server up too thru naming service.
Kindly help it is urgent.
Thanks in Advance.

Have you installed any new software or OS updates lately? It sounds like your OS can't find Java any more because your computer's environment settings have been modified or perhaps Java was uninstalled. A quick test of Java is to open a Command Window (CMD) and type "Java -version" (without the quotes). If you get an error this indicates that your PATH environment variable no longer includes the directory where Java is installed. You may only need to clean up the PATH environment setting to get things working again, or you may need to reinstall Java.
Hope this helps,

• Unable to view SQL Instance when install SP2

Hello All,
I am trying to update my version of SQL 2012 (Build 11.0.3128) to at least CU2, however whenever I try and run any update package (even up to SP2), I am unable to see my instance to upgrade. I can only see shared features. I am using a Named Instance.
SQL is running as expected, browser etc all are only and can be queried.
Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance,

It looks as though I have resolved the issue... and it turns out to be a rather embarrassing PICNIC (problem in chair, not in computer) error.
My instance is x86 and my SP is x64. DOHHH!

• OWB 11g - Repository Browser no OC4J instance

Hi All,
I have installed OWB11g and its working fine. But I don't see any OC4J instance startup under my program menu->oracle home and hence i cannot start the OWB repository browser. Do i need to configure any other thing to see OC4J instance startup or for 11g there is no OC4J requried. If no OC4J is requried for OWB repository browser in 11g , how do i start the browser ?
Thanks,
Sam.

Hi All,
I got it - in 11g you can use startOwbbInst.bat under <ORACLE_HOME>/owb/bin/win32 to start the OC4J instance and in 11g when you run it for the first time it will ask you to set OC4J Administrator password.
Thanks,
Sam.

• Unable to deploy a simple WAR / EAR file on Standalone OC4J instance

All,
This issue is baffling me since yesterday and while I continue to look for options , would appreciate if anyone of you has run into something similar and give me some hints on how to proceed on this ..
I downloaded the Standalone OC4J ( 10.1.3 ) from otn.oracle.com and also downloaded JDK 1.5 Update 12 from the Sun Website and installed it on my local
Windows XP machine. Everything works well and the application gets deployed.
I then copied the 10.1.3 Standalone OC4J to the Solaris 5.9 box which already
has JDK 1.5 Update 12 installed. We extracted the OC4J to its own directory , set the Java_Home and the Oracle_Home environment variables and were able to
startup the OC4J instance.
However when trying to deploy even a simple HelloWorld.jsp file packaged as an EAR or WAR , we get these errors..
[Aug 8, 2008 9:40:27 AM] Application Deployer for CISS STARTS.
[Aug 8, 2008 9:40:27 AM] Copy the archive to /home/aplperdev1/ssp_java/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/CISS.ear

Using the above error messages , I certainly do not find the CISS.ear file getting copied to /home/aplperdev1/ssp_java/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/CISS.ear
which explains the rest of the messages.
I have tried placing the EAR file both remote and local on the Application Server box but the results remain the same. Assuming it might be a permissions issue , we have opened up all the permissions on this OC4J home ( recursively )
to everyone ..
Is there a specific version of tar / unzip / jar required to deploy EARs / WARs on Solaris 5.9 running JDK 1.5 Update 12.
We had some issues when extracting OC4J to its directory but there were no errors displayed on the screen ... Only when we tried starting up the OC4J instance , it started complaining about missing XML files .. This was resolved by manually extracting the XML's from the corresponding jars and placing them in the proper directories ..
Also looked at Bug:6330834 but am not very sure if this applies to our case because all these drives are local to the Sun box.
Other than attempting a reinstall and opening an Service Request with Oracle , I am running out of ideas at this time ..
So any ideas / hints would be gladly accepted :)
Vishwa

When you say:
I then copied the 10.1.3 Standalone OC4J to the Solaris 5.9 box which already has JDK 1.5 Update 12 installed. We extracted the OC4J to its own directory , set the Java_Home and the Oracle_Home environment variables and were able to
startup the OC4J instance.
We had some issues when extracting OC4J to its directory but there were no errors displayed on the screen ... Only when we tried starting up the OC4J instance , it started complaining about missing XML files .. This was resolved by manually extracting the XML's from the corresponding jars and placing them in the proper directories ..
It sounds like you have some funky issues there with those missing XML files -- that is not expected or normal.
Do you mean you copied the same oc4j_extended.zip to the server and unzipped it, or you zipped up the directories you were using on the Windows box, copied that over, and unzipped it?
I don't know of any problems with Solaris, JDK5, U12.
What about if you do this to remove any issues with the remote copy aspect of the deployment.
1. Stop OC4J.
2. Manually copy CISS.ear to /home/aplperdev1/ssp_java/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/
3. Edit the j2ee/home/config/server.xml file and add the entry to deploy the application
4. Edit the j2ee/home/config/default-web-site.xml and bind any web-modules you need.
5. Start the server and see what happens -- the application should be deployed.
Also, what happens if you use the $JAVA_HOME/bin/jar to try and view the contents of the CISS.ear file?

• How to start ascontrol application of oc4j_soa OC4J Instance

Hi All,
As per the Content DB Developer's kit we have configured the oc4j_soa OC4J to use OID, however the ascontrol application of this Instance is down and the ascontrol application of home OC4J Instance is up (I guess only one instance of ascontrol must be running at any point of time). However, I will not be able to create the connection to oc4j_soa with JDeveloper as it's ascontrol is not running...How can I make it up?..if I try to make it up from back end by changing the
<application name="ascontrol" path="../../home/applications/ascontrol.ear" parent="system" start="true" /> start property to false in F:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\j2ee\home\config\server.xml and <application name="ascontrol" path="../../oc4j_soa/applications/ascontrol.ear" parent="system" start="false" /> start property to true in F:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\j2ee\oc4j_soa\config\server.xml and restart the SOA suite, I am unable to start the Appliaction Server Control page as the ascontrol of home is is refering to Applicatin server control page we are working on...so how to make the oc4j_soa's ascontrol up and running without loosing the access to Appl. Server Ctrl. page.
Thanks
Krrish

Hi Krrish,
This can only be done via the opmnctl command line tool.
Subsequently run:
- opmnctl stopproc process-type=home application=ascontrol
- opmnctl startproc process-type=oc4j_soa application=ascontrol
Then ascontrol runs in oc4j_soa.
Although this is fine for development or when running SOA Suite in a Virtual Machine (and for cutting down memory consumption) it is not recommended for production deployments. In the latter case only run SOA Suite components in your SOA OC4J instance.

• Unable to make a connection to OC4J instance - passwords identical for sure

Hi,
I have an unusual problem on my AS instance. We're using AS 10.1.3.5.0 (recently upgraded from 10.1.3.3.) and suddenly we're receiving the next error when we try to go to the instance <MY_INSTANCE> in enterprise manager:
Unable to make a connection to OC4J instance <MY_INSTANCE>on Application Server <MY_SERVER>. A common cause for this failure is an authentication error. The administrator password for each OC4J instance in the Cluster must be the same as the administrator password for the OC4J instance on which Application Server Control is running.
I've been working on this issue for a whole day now and I'm 100% sure, the passwords fore domain home and <MY_INSTANCE> are the same and it is the password I use for logging into the EM. I've been following the instructions from http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/core.1013/b28940/em_app.htm#CEGCFFCB but no success.
Can anyone please try and explain what might be wrong? The error also appear if I click on default_group group. The message is:
Error
A connection could not established to some members of the group default_group. Common causes for this failure are an authentication error or a JMX protocol mismatch.
The administrator password for each OC4J instance in the group must be the same as the administrator password for the OC4J instance on which Application Server Control is running.
The JMX protocol is specified by the property oracle.oc4j.jmx.internal.connection.protocol and the remote OC4J instance must be configured to use that protocol.
Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks, BB

On further search I managed to view the ascontrol.log file. Here is the error that is being thrown (my instance is called archibus):

• Address already in use for oc4j-instance: unable to run a form

Hi,
I've an error starting the oc4j-instance of forms.
it says: address already in use JVM-bind.
i changed the port number to 8888 (it was 8889) in the devsuit/config/default-web-site.xml.
running for the first time a form JInitiator was installed, applictaion server installation succesfull, but i see only a grey screen (in stead of my form).
i changed the prot number to 8889 again.
how to solve?
by the way, how to combine all oc4j instances into one?
(I have one for forms, one for reports, one for mapviewer and one for BIPublisher)
Leo

Thank you so much for your help.
It works when I remove the http://%%20" from address in Internet Explorer. But it doesn't work in preference->runtime. No matter what address I typed, FormBuilder added http://%%20" in front of the address automatically. I don't know what else I need to change to avoid this problem.
Thank you.

• ESB - Cannot see my instances tracking tab anymore

Hi.
I suddenly started to have this problem.
For new instances that goes through ESB, when I want to see the flow of the message in the tracking tab, I receive the following error:
An unhandled exception has been thrown in the ESB system. The exception reported is: "oracle.tip.esb.monitor.MonitorException: Unable to build the instance relationship, as the required metadata is not available at oracle.tip.esb.monitor.manager.database.MetadataProvider.getRelationshipXML(Unknown Source) at oracle.tip.esb.monitor.manager.database.DBActivityMessageStore.getInstanceRelationship(Unknown Source) at oracle.tip.esb.console.XMLInstanceManagerImpl.getRelationship(Unknown Source) at oracle.tip.esb.configuration.servlet.command.GetTrackingDetailsCommand.execute(Unknown Source) at oracle.tip.esb.configuration.servlet.CommandServlet.doJob(Unknown Source) at oracle.tip.esb.configuration.servlet.CommandServlet.doPost(Unknown Source) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:763) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:856) at com.evermind.server.http.ResourceFilterChain.doFilter(ResourceFilterChain.java:64) at oracle.security.jazn.oc4j.JAZNFilter$1.run(JAZNFilter.java:396) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at javax.security.auth.Subject.doAsPrivileged(Subject.java:517) at oracle.security.jazn.oc4j.JAZNFilter.doFilter(JAZNFilter.java:410) at com.evermind.server.http.ServletRequestDispatcher.invoke(ServletRequestDispatcher.java:621) at com.evermind.server.http.ServletRequestDispatcher.forwardInternal(ServletRequestDispatcher.java:368) at com.evermind.server.http.HttpRequestHandler.doProcessRequest(HttpRequestHandler.java:866) at com.evermind.server.http.HttpRequestHandler.processRequest(HttpRequestHandler.java:448) at com.evermind.server.http.AJPRequestHandler.run(AJPRequestHandler.java:302) at com.evermind.server.http.AJPRequestHandler.run(AJPRequestHandler.java:190) at oracle.oc4j.network.ServerSocketReadHandler$SafeRunnable.run(ServerSocketReadHandler.java:260) at com.evermind.util.ReleasableResourcePooledExecutor$MyWorker.run(ReleasableResourcePooledExecutor.java:303) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:595) ".
If I filter instances to show the old ones (past 20 days), I can see the message flows correctly.
I've already rebooted my SOA Suite and database, and even my machine.. :-)
It seems that this is an issue regarding the new instance records that are inserted into the repository.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Denis

I have received this issue, but it was caused when I updated the esb, not suddenly.
It is a bit of a dark art to find the solution but what you need to do is find the routing service that is broken. To do this break the links to the other routing services and slowly build the esb back up until you know what service / routing service is broken.
This can be caused if a variable / element is not populated e.g. you might have a routing service B which is called by A. A passes the elements 1, 2, 3, but it should pass 1, 2, 3, 4. The routing service B then calls service C with the element 1, 2, 3, 4. But 4 is not populated. It like the error you get in bpel wen you try and assign a null in an Assign activity.
I can also be caused if you have type conflicts such as string being mapped to a binary.
I have also seen it when you have routing service A that calls a reply service B as well as another routing service C. The reply service also calls the routing service C. This can cause some conflict and you my need to create a dummy routing service D inbetween the reply service B and routing service C.
This note is probly very confusing but so it the issue you are experiencing. I bet the esb still works some of the time, if not all the time.
Really the only way to sort it is to find the criminating routing service and look for anything out of the ordinary.
good luck
James

• Associating oc4j instance with OID

Hi All,
I am trying to associate oc4j instance with OID in enterprise manager (as a
first step towards configuring workflow identity service with OID). But I am getting
the following error whenever I tried
An error occurred while attempting to associate this instance with the specified Oracle Internet Directory. The security provider will NOT be changed for any application. Please ensure that the OID instance is indeed up and that the connect information provided is correct before retrying.
JAZN configuration failed: unable to create a JAZN entity in the directory.
[LDAP: error code 50 - Insufficient Access Rights]
I am logging in as orcladmin user (to OID) and this user has all the admin
rights and all the privilages that I can see in ldap. Not sure what I am missing.
Any pointers will be of great help.
Thanks
Raj

Hi,
I got this resolved. Basically there are two ids in OID cn=orcladmin and
cn=orcladmin,cn=users,cn=mycompany,cn=com. I have to use
cn=orcladmin to associate an oc4j instance with OID and I was using the other one.
Thanks
