Unable to see shared library

I searched for and read about a dozen previous posts on this subject but was unable to find a solution. Not only can I not see any shared library but I don't even have a "shared" menu item on either PC as described in the help file. It should show up under the Library>Music heading?
Both PC's:
...can connect to the internet
...can transfer files back and forth
...can see each others "Shared Docs" directory
...have iTunes and Bonjour listed as exceptions in Windows Firewall
...have the latest verions of iTunes and Bonjour
When I point the iTunes Music Folder location on the 'remote' PC to the iTunes Music Folder on the 'host' PC, it finds it, see's it, and then asks if I want to update (the view)? to match? I said yes. Still the same list of songs that are physically on the remote PC and nowhere does it say anything about sharing or give any indication that it is aware of the host library.
What am I not getting?

"iTunes Sharing, the built-in feature, has nothing to do with pointing your iTunes Music folder setting to a shared folder on another computer. Those are two separate features/capabilities."
Yes, I get that - I was just trying everything I could think of to make it see my shared library.
"do you have Sharing and "Look for shared" turned on in the iTunes Sharing preferences?"
Yes.
"you want to have your iTunes library using the shared folder on your other computer, you need to use the Add Folder to Library command to get the tracks into the iTunes library listing"
Not quite sure what your getting at here. The help file for sharing the entire library gives 3 simple steps and then says "its name appears in the iTunes window (below Shared) on other local computers (in the same subnet) set up to look for shared libraries." - obviously this is not happening.
The whole reason to share and use the host library is specifically to avoid having to manually add tracks/folders from the remote PC.

  • Unable to see shared library using fast user switching?

I couldn't get iPhoto 5.04 sharing to work between two users on a single machine. The documentation and this thread say it should work:
lori_diloreto, "How can you share a iPhoto library with another account user" #1, 09:03am May 10, 2005 CDT
but it didn't. Personal file sharing is enabled. iPhoto Bonjour sharing is enabled on the firewall. I can share iTunes libraries between the two users.
So I restarted the machine and tried again. It worked.
I don't know why the restart was necessary ...
BTW, I'd recommend more than my 512MB of DRAM when doing this. I'm amazed the G5 works as well as it does with so little physical memory. Tiger's disk swapping must be superb -- but I think at least 1GB would be adviseable.

    Hi jfaughnan,
Rebooting can cure a lot of little quirks. If all else fails when I try to do something and it's not working, I reboot and see if it helps. Usually it does.

  • Unable to see shared library (still)

I tried to continue an old thread that I had started on this topic but it has been archived - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9317333#9317333
Anyway, all I want to do is access my iTunes music from another computer on the network. I was never able to do it in the 8.x version and I still can't do it with version 9, even with both PC's having the new "Home Sharing" feature turned on.
I have iTunes on its own (logical) drive, which is shared using "Network sharing and security" dialog box under drive properties. "Share the folder on the network" and "Allow network users to change my files" are both checked.
Under the (Windows XP) firewall settings I have the following exceptions checked on both PC's:
Bonjour, port 5297 and 5298, iTunes and port 3689.
Both computers can see each other across the network and are able to view and transfer files both ways. iTunes on the remote PC can see all shared folders on the host PC including of course the entire iTunes drive and folder structure. I can set my "iTunes Media folder location" to the iTunes folder on the host PC, and it will show the path as \\folder++folder\music which is correct.
I have never been able to get iTunes on the remote PC to show a shared folder available and the host always shows sharing status as "On, no users connected". I tried bypassing the (Lynksys, Etherfast Cable/DSL) Router [wired] but still no change. Why is this so hard??
    Any ideas greatly appreciated...

Going through every post I can find that is relevant to home networking here on the forum again...
Tried holding down the shift key while opening iTunes and selecting the library on the host PC, it still shows only the local library on the remote when it opens? I don't get it.
From the remote tried "Add new folder to library" and pointed to the host folder, still get all the songs on the local (remote) PC only.
Checked Norton A/V and Network security settings and it shows iTunes as active connection, an exception in firewall, etc. - just to be sure, I completely disabled both Windows firewall and Norton, still no joy.
Ran network diagnostics on both PC's and they both show everything working.
    Please help me!

  • Unable to see my library to sync my iPhone and iPad on my new iMac.

I've just replaced my iMac and cannot see my library on the sync window.
I have entered the library location into preferences but it will not see the library at all.
Hence I am unable to sync music to my iPhone and ipad

    Hi ..
Syncing your music can be done via iTunes connecting your devices via USB to the iMac.
This process is not done via preferences.
You may need to authorize the new iMac.
    Launch iTunes.
From the iTunes menu bar click Store > Authorize This Computer
Then sync your music >  Sync your iPhone, iPad and iPod with iTunes using USB - Apple Support

  • Can't see shared library

I have a laptop which is new with the latest version of iTunes, running Windows 7, and a desktop computer with the latest version of iTunes, running Windows XP.  I signed in on the new computer with my Apple ID, same one I always have, and password.  I made Home Sharing available on both computers.  However, I still cannot view my desktop iTunes library on my iTunes on the laptop.
I see the drop down menu and no Home Sharing Library is listed.  Can someone offer any advice, please?  Thanks!

Did you make sure that "Look for shared photos" is checked in the iPhoto preferences setting on the Macbook Pro?
Last time I experimented with iPhoto library sharing, I found it to be a little flaky. Sometimes the shared library would show, sometimes it wouldn't, for no apparent reason.

The short of it all is that iTunes and/or Mac OS X Mavericks has broken some functionality in IPv6 or how iTunes home sharing is using it (I am leaning towards the latter as the iTunes team has a very bad habit of releasing bugs in the past).
Disabling IPv6 will also fix this issue with iTunes 11.1.2+ on Windows.

  • Homesharing- can't see shared library

I have a laptop with Windows 7 and itunes 9.2. I have turned on homesharing on my laptop as well as my daughters laptop which is running vista and itunes 9.2 using the same account and password. Our media files are shared but while she can see my libary I cannot see hers. I have checked firewalls on both and that is OK. We are connected to the same network.
Any suggestions on how I cna fix this as it is really starting to bug me.

  • Seeing Shared Library

I have a laptop running Windows XP. I am trying to see a library being shared by my Mac Mini running Tiger. I am using a wireless connection. I have a second laptop running Tiger, and using the same AP that I can see the shared library. I am not seeing the library on my Windows laptop.
I have checked the iTunes settings on my laptop and I am looking for shared libraries. I have also disabled the firewall, on the system, and checked the settings on the wireless network card for any firewall options that are set. Everything looks good, but I still do not see the library. Any suggestions?

Hmmm...it does sound like you have it set up correctly, esp turning off the Win XP firewall. That is another important step.
If you have the steps from the article below in place, all I can suggest is a restart of the WinXP machine.

  • Unable to see Shared Folder / Drop Box on wired LAN

I am unable to connect to another Mac on my wired LAN (Netgear wndr3700), and it is unable to connect to my machine. We cannot see each others’ Public Folder / Drop Box.
We can see each others Macs in the Shared section of the Finder’s sidebar, but trying to connect fails: “The server … may not exist or it is unavailable at this time…”
Both are running 10.6.4 Snow Leopard SL. No Windows machines on the LAN - so this should be AFP only.
We can see and connect to another Mac running 10.4.11 Tiger with no problem. BUT it is unable to connect to either 10.6.4 machine.
Firewall on both machines: On; File Sharing (AFP) set to “Allow incoming connections”; Stealth mode Enabled (toggling doesn’t change); “Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections” is Off; “Block all incoming connections” is Off. Some other apps and services are set to Block… (krb5kdc, numbed, smbd…) AppleFileServer is set to Allow.
Sharing: File Sharing Service only is On:
Hard Drive - Everyone - Read & Write
Users - Everyone - Read Only
~ (My Home Directory) - Everyone - Read Only
    Public - Everyone - Read & Write
Drop Box - Everyone - Write only
    Thanks for any suggestions.

It isn't directly related to the firewall, I'm having the same problem between two up to date machines, and to be sure, I have disabled the firewall on both. however, If i connect using the connect to server dialogue, I get through just fine. I believe it could be a dns resolution problem.
    strike that.
Just tested, check in advanced network settings, and if you have any wins servers listed, remove them.
krb5kdc needs to be allowed to accept connections, for me it popped up in little snitch when it was authenticating.

  • How to see Shared Members in Smart View on Ad-hoc Analysis mode

    Hi All,
We are using Hyperion Planning v 11.1.1.3.
For the alternate hierarchy we have created shared members. But in Smart View we are unable to see Shared members hierarchy in Ad-hoc analysis mode.
Is this limitation in Hyperion Planning?
    Or
Is there any way to see shared members Hierarchy in Smart View in Ad-hoc analysis mode?
It is urgent requirement Please let me know as early as possible
    Thanks in Advance!!!

When you say open data form in Ad-hoc mode, can you do that? I think when you select Ad-hoc mode, you are basically connecting to Essbase and therefore need to manually select the members. (of course, I've got a 11.1.2 env right now so not too sure of 11.1.1.3)
I'm able to just go to Member Selection and select whatever hierarchy i want, Shared or Stored, when I'm connected to Essbase. When connecting to Planning, I dont have any option of opening the form as Ad-hoc mode.
Can you see the hierarchy if selecting the members using Essbase connection and not planning?
    Cheers,
    Abhishek

  • Airport Express/wifi router/iTunes Home sharing/iDevices - no shared library

    iTunes on Mac mini.
Home sharing enabled on mini and iPhone & iPad.
Mac mini connected with ethernet to Quest DSL wifi modem/router.
I can see Shared library and content (videos and music) on iPhone/iPad.
Little Snitch shows iPhone/iPad connecting to iTunes.
If I connect the Mac mini via wifi to Quest DSL, the Shared library shows up on the iPhone/iPad but no content.
Little Snitch shows no connection to iTunes.
If I connect to the AirPort Express via ethernet or wifi, I see Shared library but no content.
Turned off both Little Snitch and Firewall but nothing works.

    Finally figured it out...
Had the DNS for wifi connection on the Mac mini set to the two OpenDNS servers but not to the AirPort Express.
I added the address for Airport Express but it did not fix it right away.
I turned off wifi then 'dscacheutil -flushcache' in Terminal, turned on wifi and the shared library content showed up on the iPhone and iPad.
Still don't understand why it would show the library but with no content.

  • Error: Unable to load the GSS-API Shared Library

    Hi all,
I'm trying to install a working copy of SAP on a Debian Etch host. I've tried all versions available here: ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sapgui/java/  (710 r[2-6])  The jar installer completes successfully without error, but when I attempt to launch the application, I'm greeted with the same critical error each time. Here's my connection string:
    conn=/M/my-server-hostname/S/3610/G/PRD_GENERIC&sncon=true&sncqop=3
    Here's my (Sun) java version:
    java version "1.6.0_06"

Is there a software dependency I might be missing? This is my first attempt at installing SAP on a Linux host, so there may be something else even more obvious that I'm not seeing...

    Hi,
one solution should be to set the env variable $SNC_LIB to you libseude.so, e.g.
$>setenv SNC_LIB /usr/sap/<sid>/SYS/exe/run/libsecude.o (or wherever the lib resides)
    and then restart guilogon.
Also, as fas as I know, SAPGUI has issues with Java 6, so I would rather go with Java 5 or 1.4.2.

  • ITunes not seeing the library on a shared drive

    Greetings,
I recently upgraded to iTunes 11. I upgraded the application on 3 computers. All computers (2 running Snow Leopard and one running Lion) have been authorized for iTunes and access a networked library. The upgrade was successful and and all computers "see" the correct shared library.
My problem is with the unit running Lion. That computer has 2 users, myself and my wife. I generally do not use the computer, but I set up all the computers in the home, so I automatically create an account for myself. Early on I created and configured my wife's account to use iTunes.
Recently, (after upgrading) I decided to configure iTunes for my account on that computer. (My regular computer is older and I need to start using the iPhoto application on her computer, mine has run out of space.) When I tried to run the new iTunes, my account would not "see" the iTunes library.
Do I need to authorize (to use iTunes) this account, even though my wife's account on this machine was authorized awhile ago?
Why would my account library be different from her account library (I have confirmed that the library file path is the same.)
Ultimately I want to be able to use my wife's (newer) computer to sync our (3) iPads. Right now, under my account I am unable to do that.
    Any suggestions?

I have put the library on an external drive connected by usb to my wireless router.
what exactly have you put on the external ? the entire iTunes folder or just the iTunes music (or media) folder ?
On my iMac I can select the itunes folder on the drive in itunes advanced preferences and my music shows up in the itunes window an I can play it. But on my MacbookPro although I can select the folder, nothing shows up in the itunes window.
this leads me to believe that you consolidated the iMac's library to the external but kept the library files local. pointing iTunes media folder location to a new spot tells iTunes where to put new additions to your library, but not where the current content is.
what you need to do is to copy the entire iTunes folder to the external, then (on each Mac) launch iTunes while holding the option(⌥) key, click on choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder you copied to the external.
note only one Mac at a time can access the library !
