Unable to send a text message.

Phone adds a 1 in front of the phone number of the text. I am only using a 10 digit munber, but the phone keeps adding a 1. I get an error message saying invalid number and to resend using a valid 10 digit number. iMessage works fine. It's only when I try to text someone not using an iPhone. Any help is appreciated.

If you're a Verizon user, try this:
Open the phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.
When the system answer press 1 for "Program or activate your phone"
Wait for the call to disconnect. You should get a prompt stating "Settings updated."
Double tap the Home button to bring up the recently used apps list at the bottom. Locate the Phone, Message, and Contacts apps, swiping if necessary, and press and hold until they wiggle then press the red minus sign to stop them.
Wait a 3-5 minutes.
Try sending you message again to see if it's fixed.

I am unable to send a text message. I can send a imessage fine. I am able to receive a text message but not send

I have been unable to send a regular text message since the other day when I arrived in Houston and took my phone off airplane mode. I have went thru the carrier and nothing we did solved the problem. What are some options I could try. I have no problems sending imessages as long as there is a data connection.

Text messages are a carrier feature so if you are having problems sending them I would check with your carrier

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
According to a previous Support Communities thread marked as solved, green phone numbers are numbers not registered with iMessage, and would thus be SMS only. Since you're using an iPod touch, it does not have SMS capability, and therefore cannot send a message to that number.

Since installing iOS 5 I am unable to send international texts to contacts.

After intsalling iOS 5 (aswell as 5.0.1 a few days ago) I am unable to send international text messages, both sms and imessages, to anyone in my contact list. I can though send them if I manually insert their number.
This does in fact automatically substitute the inserted number with the entry I have in my contact list, yet will only send the message this way.
If I simply select someone from my contact list, it will give me a "message send failure" error.
I have attempted this through an Iphone 4 with a +44 vodafone sim to Italian (+39) numbers.

Also, I have attempted this with both the International Assist on and off. The sim seems to work normally on other phones.

I can call out but all incoming calls are going directly to VM with no signal that I missed a call or have VM. I can send/receive text messages from other iPhone/iPad/iTouch users, I am assuming this is really "iMessage." Is it apple software?

I have spent hours on the phone with Apple and AT&T. I went thought reset, on/off, etc, etc with both companies to no avail. Each company pointed fingers at the other....as being the source of the problem.
Problems: Suddenly ALL incoming calls were going directly to VM with no signal I missed calls and/or had VM. I was also unable to receive all Text Messages...Oddly, I could send text messages to anyone (even non-apple users but I could not receive their responses)........then I when I got home I started receiving text messages from other apples users ONLY. I assume now - iMessage kicked in and I could text (send/receive) other iPhone/iPad/iTouch users ONLY. ....yes, I could still (send) text messages to my husband's blackberry (he received my messages fine) but my phone would NOT receive his text respones.
Finally, I googled the problem and found this community where other people have had the exact same problems! One person said he "turned off 3 G" which was the solution for him....so I did the same and VIOLA! My problem solved! Nevermind the fact that I pay for 3G and cannot use it....so here's my question, if 3G is the problem on my phone is this an APPLE issue or a NETWORK problem? Do I purchase a new phone and slip in my same SIM card and hope the same does not occur or do I get a whole new SIM card and phone? What is the long term resolution to this problem?
I am happy however to find that my problem is NOT an isolated incident and wish Apple or AT&T had told me this is not so uncommon because I thought (based on the baffled response from Apple) that this has never occurred before. Where is Steve Jobs when we need him?

Welcome to the  Discussions
The First Step is to try changing the Style of the Messages.
Open a Chat Window to Anybody (you do not have to Send anything you an only do this when a chat window is open).
Go to the View Menu > Messages option
In there change it from balloons to anything else.
Try a Text Chat with someone.
If this does not seem to be it try changing the Font choice in iChat > Preferences > Messages.
The Default is Helvetica and certain variants of this Font can cause problems in iChat (Helvetica Fractions for instance).
If changing the Font works use the Font Book to check the Font. (presuming you re-installed any Font you may have chosen for iChat.)

One of my contacts is unable to receive my text messages since I updated my iPhone 4s?

Since updating my iPhone, a few of my contacts have been unable to receive my text messages? One of the contacts originally had an iPhone but changed device before I updated, I was able to send and they were able to receive text messages prior to the change, the problem has arisen since update? More recently another contact who also has an iPhone is now unable to receive my text messages? Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so what did you do to resolve it? Thanks.

Wow this definitely sounds like strange behavior and something we need to investigate further. I want to find out, on your iPhone 5, do you have any signatures set? When you send text messages, do you include any emoticans or special characters? These aren't compatible with all type of devices and networks so we want to eliminate any causes of the trouble. If you do have anything like this set please remove the items and test the texting communication again. We look forward to hearing back to get this resolved.

Unable to send Group text from Nokia Lumia 520

Hi Guys,
I am unable to send Group text from lumia 520, even after enabling the Group text option in the messaging settings.

I also need to send group msg to about 100 people which was possible in Symbian, but in Lumia group limit is 25 (how ridiculous!)
Now I have made several groups of 25 & send few mgs.
But what I don't like is, group sms are shown in different thread, so when someone replies, his thread doesn't show the group msg so I can't make out to which msg I am getting reply.
Earlier Symbian used to send group msg as individual sms so replies used to show all sms, sent & received. Symbian system was better for me.
Using Nokia Lumia 1320.
Also have Nokia E72 & Nokia N8.

Is it failing and giving you an error message?
Is it happening with all contacts or just one? It could be that you have an incorrect number or the number you're sending it to might not be able to receive incoming SMS

OK, I had a user at work wit a very similar problem in that they had just upgraded their iPhone (3GS) to IOS 5 and was unable to send texts
after some testing it appeared to be that certain contacts accosiated with a particular addressbook were not working, so I am assuming that perhaps the people who are unable to send any texts perhaps have all their contacts on one addressbook or that both addressbooks are having the same problem
a quick test to see if it is an addressbook error would be to create a new contact (I used the same name as the contact that didn't work) and then send a test message
One strange / new thing that I found was that once I had entered the number in a new contact of teh same name the data/accounts were merged and the text message (sms) WORKED!
I repeated these steps for a few contacts just to be sure and it worked every time
again, this may not be the same as the problem your having but at the moment it seens like it's worth a shot if you dont want to resort to a new setup or loose 1000+ messages

Since yesterday I have been unable to send a text to Nigeria. I am receiving messages from my friend but I cannot send any to her as they just say pending all the time. Until yesterday I had no problem.Any ideas as to why or what I can do to sort it please?

Try this...
have a text convo with the person you want to delete. Go to the top contact in the text convo, hit edit contact, and delete that contact.
That resolution came from another thread on this issue, and this did solve to poster's issue.
