Unable to send - connection to server timed out

I'm lately having problems sending mail with Mail.app. A few days ago I started getting the following error message:
Cannot send message using the server smtp.mac.com:username
The connection to the server "smtp.mac.com" on port 993 timed out.
I didn't deal with it at the time because I was using a hotel wireless connection and just assumed it was a problem with their setup; however, I'm now having the problem at home.
I haven't changed any settings at all, and it started before installing the latest update. Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this and what to do about it?
Thanks, Rick

When I first set up this account, under the advanced tab it had port 993 by default, but it was grayed out. I was unable to change it using mail.app preferences, but tried a test message, and when it wouldn't send used the option to edit the server list. I changed it to port 25 there, and it now works. For some reason, when I look at the advance tab under preferences, it still has port 993 and still grayed out. It now works, but I don't understand why it would still show port 993.
In any case, thanks for the help.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Can't send mail: connection to server timed out

Every time I go out of the USA I have problems with mail. Sometimes they go away by themselves........this one is not. I am in israel; I receive mail but when I send i get the message "connection to server smtp on port 587 timed out........
How can I fix this and also not have problems everytime I am abroad??

I've been having a problem sending and receiving. I'm on a slow shared wi-fi connection. Does speed affect the mail connection? Will it time out if it takes too long to download the messages? And can if so, can I change the "time out" time to a longer duration to allow for the slower speed?

  • Connection to server timed out

This does not immediately occur when I launch mail, but does so after some time (can be up to an hour or 2). I get this message:
'The server returned the error: The connection to the server “pop.netspace.net.au” on port 110 timed out.'
This also occurred recently with my .mac email. The port for that one is 993.
Is there anyway of solving this so my email works all the time it is open.

Just converted my mother in law over to a new 21.5" iMac. Originally I was using Entourage without any problems (well problems like this Entourage is another story) but I thought "mail" would be better for her.
I'm getting the same problem on her POP3 account - port 110 timed out. It seems to just come and go??
Very frustrating when your trying to convince someone the iMac is better than her old windows machine but can't send mail reliably!

  • I'm using Entourage 2008 v 12.3.5 and lost ability to SEND.  Tried many small email tests.  Server continues to leave time out message.  "An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic.

I'm using Entourage 2008 v 12.3.5 and lost ability to SEND.  Tried many small email tests.  Server continues to leave time out message.  "An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic."  Comcast tells me server is not down all other network activity is fine.  WHat's up with this?

Starting earlier today, this also became my problem - can receive but not send in Entourage. The account settings are correct in Entourage - I even created a new account.  My Mac running 10.7.5 won't read the original Office : MAC 2008 disk, so I can't do a fix or reinstall from the disk.
This is not an issue if I log onto the Comcast site.
And so, I started using Mail but, unlike Entourage, Mail won't import my Entourage info.
    Argh...  :-(

  • The connection to the Ovi Maps server timed out.

    Hi,
Is there some general known issue presently with the maps server? Yesterday, I hardly got anything loaded because the connection was dropped every now and then. Today, I can not get any map downloading properly started. I'd really need to get maps of Italy installed soon.
I'm using the lastest Ovi Suite (downloaded and installed yesterday) and N95 8GB. I can get the country list to Ovi Suite application, but when starting the actual download, there is always just "Connection time out, The connection to the Ovi Maps server timed out, Try again".
So, is it just me or is there something somebody should fix on server side?
    Br,
    Markku

Same problem here with the latest versions of OVI. and am sick and tired of telling Nokia support the version number, phone type , firmware ,,,,,,.  The problem appears to be at the map server being over loaded.  Nokia support are un-willing to do a simple test of connecting to the server and see how slow it is.  All they want is the model numer, soft ware version and most importantly if I am satisfied with the support and if I can complete their customer satisfaction survey!!!
Aplle - Google - ...be prepared for a lot of un-happy Nokia customers

My mail is getting stuck in outbox, but I am receiving mail just fine. Message says 'server timed out'. What can i do to fix this?

    Hello Naila1,
It sounds like you are unable to send emails, as they go straight to the outbox, but you can get the emails without issue. I recommend using the Connection Doctor to help you troubleshoot what is happening with the following article:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Server Timed Out, Router not detected

Ever since a heavy thunderstorm I have been unable to pick up wireless Internet on any of my wi-fi devices. I'm no longer able to access 192.168.1.1 through my Internet browser, when I tried to ping 192.168.1.1 it says Server Timed Out, and the LinkSys EasyLink Advisor program said my computer was unable to detect my router. Help?

    Marcar,
its much easier for us to help if you give us a little detail. like the model & version of your device.
anyway, a thunderstorm aye?? ake sure that the router's power light is not blinking, if it is reset the router.
    HOW TO RESET A ROUTER:
with router turned on, push on the little reset button on the back of the router (beside the wan/internet port). hold that button for about 30 seconds and then release and then turn the router off. leave it of for 20 seconds.
by then you can access the default IP of the router which is 192.168.1.1 (password: "admin").
BTW: before you reset the router make sure you know how to reconfigure it back again to work with the modem for your internet connection.

I can't connect to the iTunes store with my Apple TV. I can see what movies are on offer but when trying to access my account i am advised "Can't connect to server" (times out).

I have the same problem with my 3rd gen Apple TV. I can preview iTunes movies, stream from my Mac, Airplay from my other devices but I cannot rent a movie on iTunes. Every time I try I get "Can't connect to ITunes" and "Unable to sign in". Had technical support review the problem over the phone and they agreed to send me a new one. Same problem. Interestingly enough my 2nd gen Apple TV works just fine.

  • Connection to partner timed out after 60s

    Hi,
I have a scenario HTTP to RFC. Where the user posts the data using the URL I have provided to get the response back from SAP system.
Everything is working fine. But today we had a strange problem. When the user tries to post the data to integration server he is getting the response as below,
    SAP Web Application Server
    ==========================
    500 Connection timed out (-5)
    Error: -5
    Version: 6040
    Component: ICM
    Date/Time: Mon Oct 22 05:01:00 2007
    Module: icxxthr_mt.c
    Line: 2603
    Server: ABCD_XWD_11
Detail: Connection to partner timed out after 60s
But after some time its working fine (without doing anything) without any problem. I am searching for the root cause of this problem. Any ideas on this?
Please help me out in this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Prasad Babu.

The target system might be too busy to accept any new requests and that the reason it gave the error message.
