Unable to send mail, can receive mail

I'm working on my mother's computer. It's sent mail just fine. All of a sudden it can't send any mail, receives mail just fine. I've been reading previous posts. I tried entering port 587 in the server port. I changed use authentication to password, checked user name, and password. We get an error message that mail is unable to send and will remain in the outbox. This time after we changed to the port 587when we tried to send a message: we got a message to re enter our password. It never asked that before.
We plan on checking with verizon tomorrow to see if they can help from their end. I hate being caught in these loops, my guess is they'll say it's the computer. Can anyone help us?? What else can we do? We have 6 messages sitting in the outbox unable to send any.

Unless Verizon's SMTP server requires and supports authentication, changing the authentication from None to Password will have no effect.
Try deleting and re-creating Verizon's SMTP server and if there are any SMTP servers available to choose from not being actively used by any account, delete those.

  • Setting up Mail: can receive mail but not sendend.

I have a new MacBook and have been struggling with setting up e-mail. Having tried and abandoned Entourage because I could send but not receive mail, I switched to Mail. I can receive, but not send. I have checked and rechecked the settings. I can still send from Entourage. I can both send and receive with Thunderbird but don't like that interface and want to use Mail.
My ISP has a special port for outgoing mail, and I have that specified.
I get the following message when I try to send mail:
This message could not be delivered because your SMTP settings are not set. Please use the Accounts Preferences panel to set the SMTP options for your account.
When I look at my settings, all are OK, except it tells me that the SMTP server is offline. I just checked Thunderbird and was able to send, so the server is not in fact offline.
I am new to having a Mac and am happy that Mail imported all my old Outlook files very nicely. Now I just need for it to send messages! Any help welcome.

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
You provides your internet service? You may be required to use their outgoing SMTP server - in Southern California I can only send mail using the Cox SMTP server - check with your service tech support of on their web site if your e-mail is provided by a different ISP than your internet service

  • Unable to send, but can receive email

Having Outlook Express problem. Can receive mail, but not send.  Server post settings are POP3 outgoing is 995., and SMTP sending setting is 25.  I think that is wrong. What should it be?

These are the correct settings for using email clients like OE with Comcast email-------------------
    http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email/
Comcast no longer supports the use of port 25.

  • Unable to send but can recieve mail

I am unable to send any mail from my hotmail account on my iphone, it says the username or password is wrong, which I double checked and it is right and I can receive. I have not changed any settings and I was able to send yesterday.
    What could be the cause?

What error message do you get? I have the same proble, and so far Apple can't fix it.

  • Cannot send but can receive mails

Hello. I have a MacBook with Mac OS X 10.4.11. I use a “.wanadoo.fr” account with an internet access through a Free internet box. So I used a pop.wanadoo and a smtp.free for the mail account. All this worked fine till 10 days ago. Now, I cannot send any mail (via the smtp.free) whereas I still receive mails (through the pop.wanadoo) and I always can surf the internet. For info : a pc which is connected to the same freebox can send mails with the same mail account. Other mistery : I ping successfully any internet address (from my Mac) but not my freebox, 2 feet away !?! And when I ping my Mac from my pc, nothing is found. As if the Mac was out of the local network. Any idea ?

Hi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Check with your ISP, many have changed the outgoing Mail port without telling anybody!

  • My outgoing email suddenly quit working.  Settings are correct, but says server unable to send. Can receive fine.  This happened on both Iphone

My outgoing email suddendly stopped working.  Happened first on my IPhone, msgs were stuck in outbox.  This self-corrected, and now my Mac Pro will not send email.  It says server not able to send, but I can receive fine.  No changes were made.  Settings are correct.  Any ideas what's wrong?

OK, I thought you'd like to know that I figured it out!   Yea.
I reasoned since my iphone is now sending, I would check to see if the exact same settings in the advanced mail area were the same.
The port on my phone was 110, but in advanced mail area on the mac it was 995/SSL.
I clicked on that and it defaulted to 110.
But what is strange is the 110 port is supposed to be for incoming mail (which I was getting fine even tho it had the 995 port) and the smtp outgoing I thought was a defaulted 25 port.
Anyway, when I changed the mac to the 110 port in advanced area, the mail in outbox was immediately sent.
I have absolutely no idea how the port server was changed to 995 SSL on the mac, since no one but myself uses this computer and I certainly didn't change it.  Also, it doesn't at all explain the iphone doing the exact same thing a week ago, even tho that port said 110 when I checked.  Very strange indeed, but thanks for the help anyone who is reading this and I hope this helps anyone else having a similar problem....

  • Earthlink email - Unable to send but can receive

Has anyone figured out how to get mail to send from the New Pre?  I have done everything humanly possible including countless hours on the phone with Palm, Earthlink, and Sprint to no avail.  I'm able to receive messages but still unable to send.  Please help me.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

Have you tried the following earthlink setting for the outgoing server?
    smtpauth.earthlink.net, use authentication.
If that doesn't work, use the sprint outgoing server,
smtp.sprintpcs.com, use authentication and no ssl.
For reference purposes, click on the following link for the support page for your device on the kb.palm.com webpage.

  • Apple Mail - Hotmail server offline - can't send but can receive mail, Apple Mail - Hotmail server offline - can't send but can receive mail

I've had no issues for the past 2 years but suddenly I can't send email from my hotmail accounts via applemail.
I've deleted accounts and readded them.  I've checked all the mail settings are correct.  I've disabled any antivirus software.  I've done this repeatedly, but still get the same issues.
The only thing i have changed in the last week is that I have switched to a fixed IP address as I needed this for my business.
    Can anyone help please?

    Hey,
I found this worked for me, just check your hotmail settings are as follows
You change your POP to IMAP like this
Outlook.com does support IMAP and SMTP.
    Incoming server:
    IMAP: imap-mail.outlook.com
    Port: 993
    Encrypted Connection: SSL
    Outgoing server:
    SMTP: smtp-mail.outlook.com
    Port: 25 or 587
    Encrypted Connection: TLS
    Username: Your Username
    Password: Your Password
This won't work on mac os x mail unless you disable pop in your outlook.com account first. If you have mac os x mail, and you don't disable pop in your outlook.com account first, mail will automatically setup pop and smtp.

  • HT1277 i can receive mail but unable to send mail

i can receive mail but unable to send mail

I'm yet another person who upgraded to Maverick OSX. I'm now thinking, "BIG mistake". Mail was working perfectly. Then, last night, Mail stopped sending.
I've checked everything. Comcast servers are set up correctly. Mail works fine on my ipad, but will not send. It gives me a SMPT error of "Cannot send message using the server comcast.net--authentication rejected" Comcast.net (Offline). I can not get it back online. I've also tried the fixes here, but there is no info.plist by those names in my library!
Anyone have any other ideas how to get this working again? Apple's OS's have been pretty decently stable in the past. I had no thought that the upgrade would be so problematic. Live and Learn.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Can receive mail, but unable to send mail

am able to receive mail, but unable to send any whether through Mail or Entourage.
didn't have this problem yesterday. Strangely enough, i am still able to send mail through my yahoo.com account. so there's nothing wrong with my connection.
is there any fix to the problem encountered in my Mail.app?

Did you accidently change the port through which you send mail?
What smtp server do you use to send mail out? and please check the port number of that outgoing mail. It should be 25 for your own internet provider.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • E-Mail - Can receive but can't send.

I have set up a personal account on my iTouch (1st Gen) in which to receive and send my email from my home account. I can receive mail but I am unable to send mail. It tells me that the SMTP account cannot connect. I have checked all the setting and they seem to be correct. I set it up just like outlook 2003. I have sync my Touch several times, somewhere I read that the correct setting could be sync from outlook, but I have the same problem. I trying to look for a possible solution.

    Hi xwdpuzzler,
Who is your email account provided by?
Most Internet Service Providers will give a free email account but you can only send email from that account when connected to the Internet over their network.
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1426 provides general tips that may resolve the issue.

  • Windows Mail can receive but not send until exiting application

Hi, and thanks for taking time to read this as I’m in need of your help.
I have a Toshiba P200, Vista Home Premium, Tiscali as my ISP, Norton Internet Security for AV and firewall, and am accessing my broadband via Ethernet to a Belkin ADSL router (and occasionally a Siemens router) and I’m experiencing some strange happenings with Windows Mail.
In short I can receive mail with no problems, but when I send the mail it stays in the outbox despite the Send Immediate option being checked or pressing the Send/Receive button. When I exit Windows Mail the mail is sent straight away, and is in the Sent Mail folder when I restart Windows Mail.
So why do I think there’s a problem with the laptop. Well, I’m fortunate enough to have a friend who has an non-Toshiba laptop, where all of the above can be replicated. Guess what, Windows Mail sends the mail exactly as it should (on my Tiscali account and on my network, through my router and ISP etc.), so I conclude that the only difference is that my laptop is a P200.
I have called Tiscali who confirmed that all my Mail settings were OK, POP, SMTP etc, which I’d expect (as they work on my friend’s laptop), and they advised I contact Microsoft, which I did, and since the P200 has Vista pre-installed they say I have to contact Toshiba, and here I am.
My P200 has been restored to factory settings, and I have tried to get this working without Norton IS, and no firewalls (Vista and router), but no luck.
Any ideas would be much appreciated and if I find out by other means, I’ll post back with outcome. If the answer is already out there, I apologise for being too dumb to locate it and beg your patience.
    Many thanks.

    Hi
It is typical for support people. Every of them try to send the customers away and the reason should be by them. In my opinion Microsofts reaction is strange for me. They have designed operating system and they should be responsible for the functionality.
I have Satellite A200 and Satellite P200D and I use Windows Mail on both of them successfully. My notebook is connected to WLAN router and router directly to the phone line. To be honest I have configured Windows Mail like you and all job were done in few minutes.
It is not easy to say where the problem can be but I believe there is some problem with some settings on your notebook. Some of them block it somehow. To compare your, with friends notebook is also not the best because he can have completely different OS settings (antivir application, firewall settings).
Try to disable all features who can block Windows hotmail to see if there is some difference.
