Unable to set audiobook MP3s to books now?
I have imported a number of audiobooks as MP3s (some from Mp3 files, some from au files) so I could add them to my iPod/iPhone/etc. and listen to them wherever. They imported as music, but it used to let me change them to audiobooks/books (Options/Media Kind). It would dump a lot of that info every time it upgraded, so I often had to go back in and re-sort and re-change them to books, but now it won't let me change them. It's a pain in the assets as I HATE mixing my music with my books but love to set my library on random. Can't do that now without running into the fricking audiobooks. Usually SEVERAL of them in very short order.
So, ***? And how do I fix it? I have found that if I convert the files--to the same DARN file type--it will let me change them to an audiobook, moving them out of the Music area. Again, ***?
Now this would sound like a good fix, but I have--literally--hundreds of files--figure 10 to 20 or more books, 5 to 12 CDs per book, 20 to 90 files PER CD! It adds up quickly to hours of work to get them all converted (TO THE SAME D@@@ FILE TYPE) and then re-categorized. And it's also true of some old downloaded Audible content.
I'm getting ****** again just writing about it. I thought Apple was all about making things EASIER for their users? This is NOT easier, and iTunes has repeatedly done things like this, making MORE work for us than less. Very, very frustrating because I love the iTunes accessibility and a number of things about the program.

Now I just have to b1tch about the new interface, which is HORRIBLE--you either choose the list view or waste a ton of space viewing album covers, and have way fewer options on how to organize your selections. Plus, in the audiobooks area, you can no longer separate things by genre, CD, or anything other than by author. Whoever is doing the interfaces needs to stop wearing his butt for a hat and actually LOOK at how people will be USING the software. I swear, since Jobs passed away, the Apple designers seem to be getting more and more like Microsoft every iteration, which defeats the whole idea of Apple.

According to my library, I can download MP3 audio books to my Ipod Nano. The material is "checked out" to a program called Over Drive Media Console. and from there, it is transferred to my IPod. the audio doesnt go to Audi Books, it goes to Music. I want to delete some of the books I have listened to, but when I plug in the Ipod and open ITunes, the titles are not there. The manual says to connect to itunes, and delete a "song or other material" but since I did not use ITunes to get the
"song" to begin with, it isnt recognized. How can I get these audioboks off my IPOD? I am running out of space. I tried connecting to Overdrive, but the software doesnt recognize the internal content. It only sets it up for transfer.The audio books do not display under the music sub-menu
And they shouldn't. They should be under the Books submenu that is further down the list from the Music submenu you are referring to.

I made a big mistake to change the setting of my Mac book pro to "me only". Now ofcourse It cannot open the login page, for how would the mac know it is me? How can I change the setting back to "everyone"? I have back up in the past but the last month I have not. I really want to keep the data.
So how can I go in and change the setting, It stays ofcourse at the apple screen with wheel. All info is there and the computer works fine, just cannot use it or have been able to log in.wjosten is spot on. If you really want iCloud, then you will need to acquire a new or second hand MBP that can run Lion.

Your question/statement makes no sense.
"Unable to download purchased audiobook. The book says it was downloaded" What book is saying this? Is the audiobook talking to you?
"Can't get to spot from iTunes to insert password" This makes no sense to me either.
If you are trying to download a previously purchased audiobook, you can't do that. You get one download of an Audiobook and then you must purchase it again if you delete it or do not have it in your iTunes library to sync back to the iPd.
If you can't find the audiobook, look in the More Tab of the Music App. -

Did you buy your phone unlocked from Apple or did you have the original carrier unlock it? Or did you have some third party unlock it for you? If the latter, and you are trying to set the phone up with a different carrier than the original, you're going to have problems as the update most likely reversed the unauthorized unlock.

Unable to sync Audiobook to any iDevice via iTunes
I got a MP3 audio book from my local library. Imported it into iTunes and found I was unable to drag it to my iPad mini or iPad Air (both running IOS 8.1). I read thru several forum posts of other people ticked off about the same problem, and I just figured out what the problem was in my instance... MATCH caused a fault! As soon as I disabled MATCH in iTunes, I was able to drag the book to the device and sync it up.
With MATCH enabled, if I click on my device in iTunes (when it appears after plugging in via USB), I could see the audiobooks in iTunes, but I couldn't drag them to the device. If I opened the device and found the audiobook, it wouldn't let me select it to sync (I had the selection set to sync selected audiobooks. None of the audiobooks show any tracks, except books that were synced over previously. With match turned off, the same problem occurs in that I cannot select a book to sync. However, if I just browse the books in iTunes I can drag the book to my device and sync it that way.
Wanted to post this in the hopes that this will help another person who is ticked off with the poor management of iTunes.Not your problem. Apple's.
I've been trying to update my iPhone 3G to OS 4.2 for a couple days. The download of this 323MB behemoth is atrociously (and that's my mild adjective) slow even on my relatively fast internet connection and always errors out with a 'lost connection' (on their end, not mine). Hello, Steve, UPDATE your darned servers! Stop using Apple computers.... ;P

Unable to set node credentials...
I have setup the server as an OD master, and up until now it hasn't had problems binding, although I haven't been able to get any users to authenticate for any services, other than my local admin account.
I haven't made any changes, but now when opening ServerPrefs, I get the following error:
"Unable to set node credentials for /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 with the record name server.mydomain.com$ There may be a problem with the Open Directory service."
Any ideas where I went wrong?It isn't something that a patch is going to cure.
I believe it does have something to do with the network and probably therefore the ip address / naming as the authentication does seem to be tied to the network location.
I've managed to move things on a little in that I have bound user accounts on other machines such that when someone logs onto their laptop it will tell them they have an account on the server and provide a logon after which their account is bound and (I think) marked as 'managed' in their Preferences | Accounts. This provides additional sections in iCal and Address Book although these don't work. The only person who can log into the web stuff such as the wiki is the server admin and I still can't access the Server Preferences or authenticate the Server Admin so can't make much in the way of changes.
I've submitted my application to Apple for support using the card provided with the Mac Mini. This was last Thursday and I've not yet received confirmation that this is live. As soon as it is I'll be having a long conversation with Apple Support.
I sort of sympathise with Apple as the server is clearly at least an order of magnitude more complicated than the admin involved with just a desktop. Having said this, however, they do need to get this sort of thing sorted by making it slicker, providing more online support for these problems if they have any aspirations towards the smaller office or even home environment which don't have dedicated IT support staff. -
Unable to set as ringtone file is unprotected N73
I can transfer my mp3 to my N73 V 3.0716.1.5.1 without any problem PC suite.
They get converted either to m4a or aac format and I can listen to them.
However, when I want to set them as Ringtone I get the following error: Unable to set as ringtone file is unprotected
I was reading that this has something to do with symbian coding or whatsoever, but thats just above my level.
I am using XP service pack 2.
The MP3 files are encoded by dbpoweramp by myself.
I am gratefull for any advice.

I have the latest iTunes (6.0.2.23). I used to be able to change the extension on an mp3 file to .m4b so that it holds its place when played like a book. I would just drag the m4b file into iTunes. Now when I drag an m4b into iTunes, iTunes does not respond--does not copy/import the file. Has the feature been stopped? If not, how can I convert long mp3s to book format?
Thanks.Renaming a .mp3 file directly to .m4b is not going to work, unfortunately. M4B is a form of AAC-encoded file, and MP3 is a form of MPEG-encoded file. You will have to find a way to convert the MP3 to an AAC file with an extension of .M4A, and I think there are some tools online that can do that like Poikosoft Easy CD-DA Extractor. Once the file is an M4A, you can rename the extension to M4B and import it into iTunes. It will then recognize it as an iPod Audiobook.

I tried with the code you suggest , its trying to set the value of a field, but my requirement is to change the property for
"Rendered" on the field so that based on search parameters we can hide result table column.
After searching online, I modified the controller code as follows
1.Created a new transient attribute (Testrender) with type "Boolean" and always updateable.
2.changed the "Rendered" property value on the field I want to hide as ${oa.PoSearchVO1.Testrender}.
3. Modified the controller code as follows :

The search cannot be executed because the table has pending changes that would be lost. I think the vo is getting dirty when I update the transient attribute value. So I used txn.rollback ,then search is working fine but its not hiding the field.
So can you please let me know how to proceed from here ? -
Unable to set kernel parameters using Reource Control

I'm trying to install DB2 8.2 on solaris 10.the problem i'm encountering in installation is unable to set MSGMAX and MSGMNB kernel parameters. I tried setting the new replacement parameter process.max-msq-qbytes through projects->Resource Control from the management console.but still uinable to set the parameters.
Can anyone help me in setting the above kernel parameters.
Its not possible to set it thru /etc/system.

guruI finally had some time to find the actual syntax for tuning process.max-msq-qbytes and process.max-msg-messages. prctl will change those paramaters for an existing process.
As a proof of concept I changed process.max-msg-messages to a 64k. process 2221 is my shell.

...Solaris 10 has different tunables and default values from 8 and 9. It's default tunables should be good for most applications per a given system's hardware. There are some great blog articles, and discussions on opensolaris.org and blogs.sun.com on tuning that explain the intent of tuning and why we shouldn't have to tune.

Before, it was working (printer and linux ... has never been very good...). But now, I'm not able, and it's about 1 hour I'm looking for a stupid error that I don't know if it's important or not ...

When starting cups service, all is fine : I can use a workstation to browse the Web Interface ... but printer seems to be not detected since it tells "No printers." when clicking on "Printers" tab. So, I go to "Administration" tab and, under "Printers", I click the "Find New Printers" and again, it says : "No printers found.".
Not goot ... so, like I was doing with Gentoo, I click on "Add Printer" ... then, I receive a redirection to HTTPS ... click on the link (or wait) and nothing happend (timed out): web interface is broken for HTTPS ... I really got no idea why HTTPS is not working .
After that, when updating the configuration (with vim) and restarting the service, deamon won't stop and I have to send a "kill -9" to the cupsd pid ...
I look in log and I can just see this :

EDIT3: I tested the ppd from cups (and not hpijs) and got the same problem ... The latest idea was to unplug USB and plug to another USB ... and it seams to works ... Now, the test page print "fine" ...
So, I shared the printer over my LAN, and tried to print from a workstation ... it works fine now ... when looking error_log, I can see than there is no more Ghostscript error .
But I have a last question .. if somebody can answer ... When choosing a PPD file, I have the choice between 3 version :
- hpijs, 3.10.9
- hpijs, 3.10.9.11
- hpcups, 3.10.9
Don't know why onlyl the HPIJS got the ".11" and not any others ... I selected this one and here is what Cups say about the printer :
HP_DeskJet_895C_USB_ES29Z231JKGO_HPLIP HP DeskJet 895C Local Printer HP Deskjet 895c hpijs, 3.10.9.11 Idle - "ready to print"
I hope when upgrading the system, I will not get error from PPD file not found ... With my current PPD file, I get (really not sure) this error, but print is working so, it doesn't matter :

Which is basically Western Digital informing you that their out-of-date utilities don’t support Mavericks.
In any case those utilities are not the most effective. The moral of the story is: the first thing you should do after buying a WD drive is to format it as HFS Extended (Journaled) and not install ANY of their utilities but instead use reliable applications like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper - or Time Machine. -
Unable to set a top-level property object
Hey guys
I've made a little sequence to fetch data from a XML file. In that XML file, there is some informations (entries) (IP addresses, port numbers, etc) about 4 different types of devices(sections are the devices names). The first section of the XML tells me the NAMES of the devices I have to configure. The type of each device is located in the entries of each device. Each device has its own information and I can have more than one device of a type. In teststand, I've created custom data types (containers with empty fields) for each type of device I need.
I want to dynamically create the devices that the XML file tells me to configure as fileglobal variables and populate them with their own config informations (entries of the XML file). I'm creating new fileglobal of the type I want using PropertyObject step and I'm creating an alias of that fileglobal that I'm passing in parameter to a subsequence who's getting infos from XML. Here, everything is OK.
The problem occurs when I want to configure 2 or more objects of the same type. At the SetProperty step (where i'm creating the fileglobal variable) teststand gives me the error:
"Unable to set a top-level property object to another object. Error accessing item 'Parameters.DeviceToInitStruct'."
Is there any ways to avoid that problem and creating to variable of the same type ?

I finally got rid of that problem.
Instead of using a PropertyObject.Clone step, I used a statement who's just copy the "MasterObject" into a "CloneObject" and i'm working with that copy. So the sequence can now create devices of the same type without any conflict with the first device.
i'll post here a short example to show how i did... maybe it'll be useful for someone...
