Unable to set Media location in iTunes

Hi All, I have just finished the Yosemite upgrade and want to set my media folder in iTunes. In iTunes>Preferences>Advanced I select my music folder, (held on a separate internal drive), and then press Scan For Media, nothing happens, no media located. What am I doing wrong

I have the exact same problem. If I disconnect my video iPod and the try to alter settings - then I'm told that No iPod is connected....
What is wrong?

This is a user to user support forum.  We are all iphone users just like you.
You are not addressing Apple here at all.
This is an odd way to ask your fellow iphone users for help. Berating oterh users will not help you.
    "it's too fragile"
No it is not.  i have never damaged one, nor has anyone I know.

No you don't.  Why do you think this?
"and there is no customer support!!!  "
Wrong yet again.  Apple has an 800 number and they have many retail stores and they have support articles that you can access using the search bar. Or you can contact them throgh express lane online

  • ITunes 11: setting Media Kind to podcast, but keeping files separated by album?

I'm having a weird issue in iTunes 11. I have a bunch of audio lectures that I want iTunes to treat as podcasts, so that I can listen to them through the Podcasts app on my iPhone 5. I prefer the interface of the Podcasts app over the Music app for lecture listening, especially with the feature of playback continuing where it left off, so this is important to me.
Setting Media Kind in iTunes to podcast works fine for the first 'album' that I try, but as soon as I do it to files from a second album, the Podcasts app on my iPhone merges them into the first 'album' / podcast. iTunes on my Mac does keep the new podcasts separate, but as soon as I sync them with my iPhone, the Podcasts app just adds all of the rest of the files I've sync'd in with the first album that I added.
These lectures all came from the same publisher (FYI I legally own them), but I've removed all metadata related to the publisher that I can see in iTunes. There's nothing as far as I can tell that is telling iTunes to group them together, but it keeps on doing it anyway.
Is this a bug, or "working as intended"? Is there a work-around, or maybe something I've overlooked? Thanks!

"I've taken to deleting Podcasts app so that they return (properly organized!) to the old Music app."
This no longer works:  iOS 7 removes this escape route.
You now must use Apple's specific Podcasts app for podcasts – which, of course, still hasn't fixed the original issue (of lumping everything together).  If you try to use Apple's Music app like before, the Podcasts are hidden from view for iOS 7.
As DogDutyAscetic said above:  it's best to just completely switch to Downcast (or other 3rd party) if you make your own podcasts.  Apple has bigger fish to fry than the podcast community, and understandably so as the biggest company in the world.  Rather than fix this issue over the last 12 months, they've instead shut off their working alternative.  A pity, but the writing was on the wall.

  • Was there a change to the location where iTunes copies media with the "Keep media folder organized" option selected?

iTunes was copying my media to for example:
    \volume\iTunes\Music\Artist\Album\tracks.mp3
    \volume\iTunes\Movies\Movie\movie.mp4
    \volume\iTunes\TV Shows\TV Show\Season\episode.mp4
I believe after the update it started to copy and move files to different locations:
    \volume\iTunes\Artist\Album\tracks.mp3
    \volume\iTunes\Movies\movie.mp4
    \volume\iTunes\TV Shows\TV Show\episode.mp4
Music is no longer being copied to the Music folder, it's being copied or moved to the root of where I have my iTunes directory defined.  Has anyone seen this change happen to them?

Actually to get it to run through your library as it now exists I think the consolidate command is still around (I don't have itunes 10).

By internal, I assume you're referring to your systems (boot) drive. Is it, by chance, a partitioned dive?
Also…although many people successfully use their systems drives as scratch disks, over time you'll have better results using a dedicated drive for your media.
    Good luck.

  • Songfile path not writing to .itl file when iTunes Media Location is changed.

Running iTunes 11.1.4 on an Intel NUC with Windows 8.1. My iTunes library contains about 65K songfiles. All media is on a NAS.
Frequently when I restart the PC the NAS is not immediately mounted. So if I don't check this before starting up iTunes, the iTunes media folder location changes to its default.
I don't know if this is the cause of the problem, but a few days ago I started seeing a vast number of exclamation points indicating lost songfiles. All music is nicely organized in a parent folder on the NAS and iTunes had, until recently, no problem recognizing all of it.
So the other day I changed the iTunes Media Folder Location in the program from the default (which it had switched to at bootup) to the songfiles' location on the NAS. I then let the software update the library.
Still the exclamation points remained, with no discernible pattern. Within albums, some songs were recognized, some not. I'd say about two-thirds were missing, according to iTunes.
I shut down iTunes, fired up Vim, and had a look at the library's .xml file. Sure enough, about two thirds of the songfiles pointed to the default media location, with another one-third pointing correctly.
I edited the .xml file to line everything up properly, but came to find that this has no effect because the .itl file rules the roost. As soon as I started iTunes back up, the paths returned to the locations according to the .itl file, and these incorrect paths were also written to the .xml.
Updating the media folder location seems to have no effect on iTunes's ability to find the files. I know I can rebuild my library using the .xml file (presumably best done after I have changed the paths to their proper file locations), but I don't want to lose playcounts, ratings, playlists, etc.
So. It *seems* as if my .itl file is corrupt even though iTunes starts and the program is able to locate a portion of my media.
Is there something I am missing? Some way to get iTunes to recognize the proper path for all media without a library rebuild?
    TIA.

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible thatiTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.
I've seen a suggestion that iTunes' own repair mechanism may work better when "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" is turned off.
See also make a split library portable. Keeping the whole library on the drive removes the problem of the media folder being reset.

  • Media location problem w/iTunes 11.01

I just dl'd to iTunes 11.01 for mac, and my media library has gone missing.
My music library is very large (500+GB) and is therefore on an external hard drive. Years ago, when I first installed iTunes, I changed the default media location (in Preferences) to this external hard drive, and all my tunes showed up on iTunes. Every previous update of iTunes has carrried this preference forward and found my music without a hitch.
Unfortunately, with this latest iteration of the program, something happened to disrupt this process, and when I opened iTunes after the update I noticed that the only music visible in the program was those tunes I've purchased from iTunes. In other words: those in the cloud. All files stored locally on the external hard drive were still there, and the drive connection was live, but for some reason, iTunes had reset the location for the file back to the default (in the "Music" folder).
I changed the location in Preferences, as I had done years ago, but the tunes aren't showing up in iTunes. When I check the media location in Preferences, the correct location (on the external hard drive) is there plain as day BUT THE TUNES AREN'T ACCESSIBLE FROM THE PROGRAM.
Does anybody have an explanation for this? I suspect it has something to do with the .itl and .xml files, but I'm a bit unsure about how to proceed.
    Thanks in advance,
    Andy

After looking at things further, something is really wrong with this 11.0.1 installation. iTunes only shows certain movies in my library (and no TV shows, when I have multiple series. I deleted my music, movie & TV files off of my drive to stram them in iCloud to save space -- and everything worked fine in the iTunes 11 debut before this most recent upgrade). The really weird thing is, all the movie files are still stored on my HD that my iTunes account is pointing to for storage. Add to that, when I view my purchases and check for items that iTunes says are NOT on my computer, there are items showing on that tab that ARE on the computer according to my library listing.

  • How to use iTunes COM SDK to set Media Kind for tracks

There is no obvious function to set Media Kind of a track from iTunes COM SDK. Just curious if anyone knows how to do it programmatically?

AFAICT there isn't a way to do it via the COM SDK. I currently do it by simulating window events using AutoIT.

  • Loging into home server to set location of itunes library

    hi,
i have two apples a macbook and a macbook pro (both with os x 10.5) i recently moved my itunes library from my macbook pro to a home server and it will stream from the server to the macbook pro with no problem.
the itunes library on the server is in a directory owned by a user (me) on the server so i have to login as that user to access it. i put it there because i thought it was safer.
now i am trying to set the location of the itunes library on the server for the macbook to use. but i cannot cannot see the user file tree to click on to log in and set the location of the itunes library on the macbook the way that i did when i set the location of the itunes library on the macbook pro.
i can only see the "shared" directory on the server in the file window using the macbook.
when i clicked on the server using the macbook pro file window it displayed the user file system as well as the shared directories. so i just clicked on the user file system it prompted me for login, i did, i set the itunes library to that location and all was well. and itunes works on the macbook pro streaming from the server.
how can display the file system on server in the file window on the macbook to click on and log into and set the location of the itunes library on the macbook the way i did on the macbook pro?
they are both running os x 10.5 the server is debian linux.
    please advise.
    thank you.

Sorry, but you can't. You can only use a credit card issued by a French bank and with a French billing address. Your only solution is going to be to purchase prepaid iTunes cards (there should be several places you can buy them; perhaps FNAC) and use prepaid cards to open the account and purchase.

  • Media Browser and iTunes Screensaver Unable to See Through Aliases

My iTunes library is on a shared Airport disk. In Tiger I used an alias from ~/Music to the shared library. This worked better than pointing iTunes itself straight at the shared library because the media browser and iTunes screen saver continued to work as expected.
Not so in Leopard. When my iTunes library is an alias the media browser refuses to see it and suggests i launch iTunes 6 or later. Similar for the iTunes screen saver.
Does anyone else experience this, and does anyone know any workarounds? I miss browsing my iTunes libray from iPhoto.

If you have 64 bit Windows and daemon, you have a little work to do.
You need to install the 64 bit Gear drivers that iTunes needs for burning but are not supplied:
