Unable to set static ip on Network Manager

when i try to set static ip on Network manager
i open the applet on gnome,change the ip setting and when i try to save, appear for a nano-second the authentication window and disappear
this happens only whit the ethernet connection and not with the wireless connection

    First sorry my poor english, still keep trying  We do have an HP Officjet 6600 Printer for about 6 months.This printer has USB and WLAN, but no LAN port. We used the printer until 2 weeks ago. At that time, **bleep** starts ...As long as we used the printer, he was connected via Automated WLAN (DHCP) and everything worked fine.The printer was connected to our WLAN Modem which assigned the DHCP IP Adress automatically.Then, our Internet provider updated our cable modem, which is also our WLAN router, and since that time, the printer does not work anymore. He always shows an error after booting, and told us to restart the printer, and all lamps of the printer are continously blinking. There is no way to access the printer menus on the printer.After a long and intensiv internet research, i found out that the cable modem is responsible for the printer error!It looks like the WLAN DHCP Server of the cable modem sends DHCP messages, which the printer cannot use correctly. If I shut down the modem (with the integrated WLAN router), the printer boots normal without an error, but I cannot use him becaused he is not connected to WLAN as because the modem is offline.So I wanted to set the printer to not use DHCP by assigning static IP to the printer. But this does not work! I tried 10 times or more to assign static IP, Subnet, Gateway and DNS-Server, no way, the printer always show "IP not set" (same for the others). Can anybody tell me why I'm not able to set static IP, Gateway etc. to the printer?!Thanks for every suggestion.

Since you now have a new cable modem, let's start with a more basic approach. Please use the following document for instruction to reset the printer to your new network settings: Connecting the Printer After Changing Your Wireless Network.  You may notice, when you open the link, that the full title mentions the Photosmart B209a, the instructions presented apply to your printer to so please don't be alarmed. I hope this helps.

  • Unable to set Static IP in Wicd

    Wicd will get an IP just fine if I let it do DHCP. When I try and set my static IP it acts like its connecting and then just says not connected. The wicd .log has:
    Putting interface down
    Releasing DHCP leases...
    Setting false IP...
    Flushing the routing table...
    Putting interface up...
    Setting static IP : X.X.X.164
    Setting default gateway : X.X.X.1
    Connecting thread exiting.
    Sending connection attempt result Success
    X's to not show my IP. I entered the same information into the Properties tab that I would in windows or that I do in rc.conf and resolv.conf that lets me set a static ip without using wicd. There is 2 lines that I dont have that I have left blank and wondering it this is why its not working because I dont know what goes in them. DNS domain and Search domain(i have no idea what these 2 are looking for). I tried entering the server names for DNS 1 and 2 but that didnt work. I tried just ph.cox.net and cox.net in the DNS Domain field and that didnt work. So now im stumped and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.

    Well that makes me feel better, I did leave them blank but it would not connect. I actually tried googles DNS in DNS 1 and 2 and received the same results as with my proper ISP's DNS.
    I did not try Global DNS Servers way that you described, I was entering in the information in the properties tab. I will go ahead and try this method.
    Im correct on my gateway, I run an ipcop box as my router and set everything in my house with static IP's so I have the DNS and gateway information correct.
    Thank you for your suggestion, ill go try that and see if it works.
    I am not sure if it matters but I am using wicd-gtk to set everything and not doing it through the terminal with just wicd or wicd curses.

  • Upon reboot does not set Static IP if network is down

    If the network is down or not connected and I reboot the XSERVE, the static(manual) IP that I set is not recieved and the XSERVE gives it only 127.0.0.1
    It also causes the webserver to not react to typing in the actual IP in the browser.

    Yes, you can do it.. I am not sure if it is documented.

    Open your airport utility .. click the AE and click edit button.. go the Network tab.
    The actual name is DHCP Reservations in the utility.
    And here is the edit to show how you setup.. you can also just click the plus sign under the box to add or remove entries.
    You will not believe how easy this is from a Mac computer.
    What you see there was done by a terminal command, natutil
    The actual command would be,
    natutil -v -i -L
    The meaning is
    v verbose output.
    i request the password.. if the password is public you do not need to use the -i switch.
      -L       [AirPort only] Convert existing DHCP lease into a static reser-
                  vation so the host will receive the same IP address after each
                  reboot.
    I am sure this might be over complicated for you.. but if you want several Macs setup with static IP this makes it a breeze.. you can go back and edit the actual IP after the setup.
    Note you cannot set a static IP to the actual LAN port of the Airport.
    What you do is lock the IP to the MAC address of the item. You can also use ID.
    And this works for all clients, ethernet or wireless anywhere in the Network where the Airport is working as DHCP server.

  • WRV200 Unable to set static default route

    In my case i should use the wrv200 as a router with static routes.
    A tried to set up a route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254.
    I did not get any error messages after clicking the "save changes" button, but it does not work and it can't be seen on the routing table.
    I think that it is not a missing feature! That must be a bug!
    Could anybody help me please?

    I can not do that because the default gateway parameter belongs to the wan interface, which is connected with the router at the vineyard over vpn and has the ip 172.16.1.1 if I try to set here 192.168.1.254 it says:
    "The gateway should be in the same subnet as the interface" or something like that with the same meaning.
    I did not post but i use the firmware version 1.0.39

  • Unable to set Guest Network

    I have set up a Wifi Network using one Apple Airport Extreme.
    While me regular WiFi network is hidden and working fine, I am unable to set up the guest network.
    I have enabled the guest network option with a password. under the wireless tab in airport utility
    My internet connection is using DHCP.
    The Router Mode in Network is OFF (Bridge Mode)

    That.....is one of your problems, since the Guest Network option will not operate correctly when the AirPort Extreme is configured to operate in Bridge Mode.
    The other problem that you have.....is that Bridge Mode is actually the correct setting for the AirPort Extreme when you have another router "upstream" on your network......as you do.
    To confirm that you have a modem/router or gateway device on your network........and not a simple modem, which is the device that you really need to enable the Guest Network to operate correctly.....please post back with the make and model number of your existing modem/router or gateway device that is providing your regular Wi-Fi network at the present time.

    Hi! Is there anybody useing pptp vpn connections? I've found that I can't set them up in network-manager (gnome applet), because there is no network-manager-pptp plugin in ArchLinux repo. And I found, it is use only in Debian & Ubuntu. But it's really cool if you use pptp-connections, because vpnc doesn't work with some VPN servers. So I've tried to find source and compile it. But:
    1) It's hard to find source tarball. Launchpad.net seems to serve svn for pptp-plugin, but it didn't work (svn didn't connect properly). So I've downloaded tarball from some strange site... like softpedia.
    2) Sources that I found doesn't seem to affect networkmanager. PPTP option didn't appear after I've nstalled pptpplugin from source. It installed properly, I suppose. New libraries appeared in /usr/lib/NetworkManager/ (as vpnc's did). But still no PPTP option in metworkmanager, only vpnc...
    May be someone know how to install this plugin?

    I have networkmanager-pptp plugin... I build NM and all related stuff (including wpa_supplicant) by myself from borrowed and customized packages from aur... I use only svn versions, latest build was pre-0.7.1 couple of days ago
    I can't tell is it working because i don't have any pptp servers to try it on right now, but I can tell you - it builds fine, previously I have used it and it kinda worked...

    so I know the cmd window commands for hotspot and settings of client(sharing to hosted network client, assigning IP address etc.,)
    but the problem I am facing is slight different
    I am using my cdma wireless broadband datacard as my source internet connection(Reliance netconnect +)
    when I try to create hotspot for this, as usual I am able to create the hotspot and able to share the internet to hostednework client.
    but I am unable to set the ip address for hosted network client, if I try to set ip 192.169.137.1 and 255.255.255.0
    as soon as I close the window, the ip address also disappears
    when connect my android phone to that hotspot, it is able to connect but there is no internet connectivity.
    when I check the hostednetwork client for packet transmission, both sent and received packet is happening., I mean transmitting
    so what cause the failure in internet connectivity but success in hotspot connectivity?

    Please make sure the Ad hoc connection IP adress is at the same range with your local connection. In addition, how about recreate the ad hoc connection for test, please have a try.
    If problem persists, please use Network troubleshooter in Action Center to fix this problem for test.

  • Unable to set network time and date

    My Applet TV2 is unable to set the network time and date making it so I cannot login to my itunes account so not Netflix or anything making it pointless. I have tried adjusting my router settings (although I've used the same router for over and year and this just started randomly) I have ensured Port's 123 are open, I've restored the ATV2 4 times and have reset my router. I've seen links showing how to use SSh to set the time but I'm unsure if that will work. Any help is appreciated as I'm at a loss at this point

    Of the things I've seen work for people in the community you seem to have done most of them, but did you try these.
    Restart Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a moment or two.
    Ensure that the DNS address's used by the Apple TV and the router are the same and are the address recommended by your ISP.

    Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
    You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them.     We tried all the options like ftp,tftp,scp,etc., to copy cisco application networking manager license file from my pc to its server which has CISCO ADE OS .But unable to copy .can anybody know correct method to copy ??

    Adrian,
    In order to install the license you must have a license file on the ANM server and install it through the command line:

    No other way to do it.
    License file can either be copied to the ANM file system, or you can create a new empty license file on it and copy paste the license file content.
    If you have no access to the ANM server through CLI, then a workaround might be:
         - install a new VMWARE machine where you have CLI access.
         - install ANM on it
         - copy license (other you copy the file through any means or you create a file and edit by copy pasting the license file content)
         - install license with the command  /opt/CSCOanm/bin/anm-license install /path/ANMxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.lic as described in the link above
         - save the VMware image
         - deploy the same VMWare image to the ESX where it has to be installed and where you have no access to CLI neither you can copy a file.

  • [SOLVED]Network Manager Applet and nmcli failing after GCC upgrade

    Hi All,
    So I went to update my system today and there were only like 8 or 9 updates. Like many other people I had an issue with gcc and pacman. To fix this I ran
    pacman -S gcc
    Then I ran:
    pacman -Su
    which updated pacman itself. On reboot though I noticed network manager applet was unable to find any of my network devices despite the fact that network manager was running and I had an IP address. I killed nm-applet and re-ran it and it spewed errors about not being able to connect to network manager. I tried running nmcli and it did the same thing. However, when I run nmcli as root it works. Looking at the arch wiki they suggest you be a part of the wheel and network group which I made sure I was. Everything was working up until I ran those two updates though. Anyone else have this happen or have any idea what is wrong?

    I have already tried removing the ! and the same thing happened ... but I realised today that I was being automatically connected to "Auto eth0" despite there being no cable present. When automatic connection was disabled on "Auto eth0" my 3G connection (ppp0) connected fine.
    Could you clarify that the preferred set-up in the /etc/rc.conf for the interfaces is without the !. The Wiki for networkmanager says to disable them, but then states that some may need to be reenabled with no explanation. The purpose of this confuses me!

    I appear to have fixed my problem with the auto connection on the various interfaces by updating my /etc/rc.conf file to:
    #Static IP example
    #eth0="dhcp"
    ppp0="dhcp"
    wlan0="dhcp"
    eth0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(ppp0 wlan0 eth0)
    Thus ensuring that I can connect in order of preference.

  • No interfaces shown in network manager [SOLVED]

    I have just done a fresh install of Arch on my new Sony Vaio VGN-FW53GF, all goes well, except for Network Manager.
    I can use my wired connection ok as eth0 shows up as active when I hover over the kde applet in the task bar. However when I go to "Manage Connections"
    I do not see any Wireless networks or even my "working" wired connection in any list.
    Wireless seems to be working as iwconfig shows an interface.

    Can anyone offer some suggestion on how to get network manager going, I would like to use it. In the past
    I have used Wicd, but it has some limitations.

    I use WPA2 with network manager without a problem.  It should "just work", im not sure why you have issues, can you switch your router to a different security protocol to test?
