Unable to set up Maintenance Plan

Hi
I am using SQL Server 2008 R2 and I have several Maintenance Plans set up and these are all working okay.I am trying to set up a new Maintenance Plan and when i try to save it i keep getting the error shown below.
Can anyone help me to resolve this issue.

Thanks for your reply. I have checked in both Maintenance Plan History and Job History and both Log File Summary windows are empty for this Maintenance Plan.
I have since tried to update to SP3 as per previous post but i am unable to do so. Currently i have SP2 installed (10.50.4033)
I am getting an error.
"There are no SQL Server instances or shared features that can be updated on this computer"
When i select an option on the shared features, the message reads " The version of SQL Server instance Shared Component does not match the version expected by the SQL Server update. The installed SQL Server product version is 10.52.4000.0 and the expected
version is 10.0.1600.22"

Per the error message, you are trying to install a SQL Server 2008 service pack on the SQL Server 2008 R2 instance. Please download SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 3 from below link and install it .

Just trying to understand if it related directly to planning and maybe you will get a different error message.

Maintenance plan-->functions-->Activate<-->Inactive-->Deactive for maintenance plan
which field and Table we can able to get the details,Status "Inactive" set for maintenance plan.

Please refer MPLA table to OBJNR value.
Refer JCDS & JEST tables to get the Inactive Maintenance plans.
If Status I0320 is active in JEST table, then that Maintenance plan is Inactive.
Pass INACT is not equal to "X" & OBJNR = "WO*" to get all Inactive Maintenance Plans OBJNR values. Pass that in MPLA table & get WARPL value.

Unable to edit maintenance plan Sql Server 2008R2

Hi All,
I am unable to edit sql server maintenance plan and it is failing continuously from job as well.When I try to open the same the throws an error:
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio is unable to load this document.:
Error loading from XML. No further detailed error information can be supplied for this problem because no Event objects was passed where detailed error information can be stored. It used to work pretty well in the past.Throws same error when I try to connect
remotely.

Setting Expiration period for Maintenance Plan Backups fails to work in sql server 2008

I have created a Maintenance Plan to do a nightly full backup and set the backup
set to expire after 4 days in sql server 2008 R2.
Weeks later, old backups are sitting on the hard drive.Please do the needful.

Set field selection in maintenance plan

Hi R.S Raghav,
If the field Equipment is already mandatory in maintenance plan, then check in transaction OIAO, this is for notifications, (the equipment field may be made mandatory for Notification). You can make that as optional entry.
Check and revert back with your observations.

Backwards Counters and Maintenance Plans

HI Experts,
I am looking for information relating to setting up backward counters to schedule Maintenance Plans. When I try to create a Maintenance Plan linked to a Backward Counter, I receive the error "Only counters that run forwards can be entered - Error IP124" . What am I doing wrong? How can I use backwards counters with maintenance plans?
We have several clocks that count down the hours til the next major or minor pm is due. The technician manually records the time from these clocks. Worst case is that we can subtract the counter time from a constant if we have to, but I'd like to have the technician enter in the clock time directly with out any manipulation needed.

"Value cannot be null" error when trying to edit or create Maintenance Plan in SQL Server 2008

I have SQL Server 2008 installed on Windows Server 2008 64bit, every time I try to open or create a new Maintenance Plan I receive the error:
Value cannot be null.

And in the Design view screen

I have searched for a possible solution and have tried some suggestions of registering the msxml6.dll but and have installed VS2008 SP1 but I'm not in a position where I can do a full reinstall of SQL Server right now. Any help is appreciated. My SQL server
environment information is below.

I digged a little deeper and figured out it was a missing directory/file in %TEMP%. Seems some CleaningTool removes all files/directories in %Temp% and after that SSMS was not working any longer. The missing file is actually not needed, but the
missing directory causes the "Value cannot be null" error.
My missing file name was:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\2\6vvdaozf.tmp
But the file name changes on every startup.
So my missing directory name was:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\2
After creating a empty directory with the name "2" in %TEMP% all went back to work fine for me.
I'm not sure the directory name is every time the same, but you can discover your missing file with the process monitor from Sysinternal Tools and filters to "Process Name is ssms.exe" and "Path contains AppData\Local\Temp"

Thank you!! When I run %temp% it takes me to "C:\Users\Admin ...~\AppData\Local\Temp\some random number". At first the random number was 3, after I logged off and back on it was 2. My temp variable in enviromental variables is correct. I looked on another machine
running SQL2008 and temp is correct there. If I try to rename the numbered folder SSMS stops working. Any idea?

Unable to view SmartList in Planning webforms in 11.1.1.2

Hi Friends,
I am using Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.2 webforms. I am Unable to view SmartList in Planning webforms.
steps I have done:
1.Created a SmartList.
2.Added entries to Smartlist
3.Assigned the SmartList to a dimension Member(Account Member).
4.In the webform I am selecting the same account member as Column member.
5.One Members for Row.
6.Rest of all the dimension members are POV/PAGE.
When I open the form I am not able to see the smartlist for the account member. I am not able to select.
Also I see that there is no "Enable Smart List" option in EPM (11.1.1.2). I have seen the same in 9.2
Any Idea what needs to be set or changed?

Have you set the evaluation order, Administration > Dimensions > Evaluation Order > Move the dimension that the smart list is against across to the right hand window.

Maintenance Item assignment to a Maintenance Plan

Dear Expert,
we need some help about the following scenario.
Currently we are working on preventive maintenance in SAP ECC 6.0 system. We have created several maintenance items without assignment to maintenance plans in order to use them like models: to make quickly the creation of a maintenance plan our users can choose the suitable maintenance item from a range.
In these items we have inserted only strategy and maintenance task list but we have not insert the technical object.
We carry out the following steps:
1. we run transaction IP42;
2. we insert the maintenance category and the strategy;
3. in the tab "Item" we press the button "Assign more items";
4. system runs report RIMPOS00 (Display Maintenance Item: Selection Criteria) in order to select the item to insert in the maintenance plan. In this screen the followin fields are locked (we can not change them):
- "Maint. plan cat.";
- "Maintenance strategy";
- "MaintPlan assignment" and the radio botton is set on "without".
In this way if a maintenance item has been already assigned to a maintenance plan users can not select it for the current plan.
In your opinion could we open the radio buttons for the field "MaintPlan assignment" ? Could anyone help us ?

Maintenance Plans..Set List Editing for Maintenance Items
After clicking on Execute button u will get a pop up " Customising list editing "Double click on selection do the changes & save.
It will work i think.

Error When Creating Maintenance Plan

Hi, recently I upgraded to sql server 2008 R2 from sql 2008, everything went OK and my server is up and running since 10 days.
This evening I wanted to modify a maintenance plan that backs up all DBs which I run on command, I started to get "MSSQL server management Studion is unable to load this document: SSIS object name is invalid. More specific errors would have been raised explaining
the exact naming problem".
I tried creating a new one, directly and using the wizard, I get a dialogbox error :

It turns out that the unregistered COM in dts.dll located in
in command line chnge directory to this path C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Binn
run the following from the command line:
REGSVR32.EXE dts.dll
disconnect from management studio and reconnect, it shld work now

Backup Maintenance Plan on SQL AlwaysOn Availability Group Secondary Read-Only node

I have 3 node SQL 2012 AlwaysOn Availability nodes with the 3rd node as Read-Only.
The backup job within SQL Maintenance plan is failing with the following error:
Failed:(-1073548784) Executing the query "declare @backupSetId as int
select @backupSetId =..." failed with the following error: "Cannot open backup device 'C:\\SQLDBName_backup_2014_06_08_170156_9292095.bak'. Operating system error 2(The system cannot find the file specified.).
VERIFY DATABASE is terminating abnormally.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
I have verified the SQL AlwaysOn Backup preference to be "Prefer Secondary"
Is there any special steps/settings I need to do to setup and run the backups using maintenance plan in SQL AlwaysOn?

Hi Vikki,
Many systems rely solely on SQL Server to update statistics automatically(AUTO UPDATE STATISTICS enabled), however, based on my research, large tables, tables with uneven data distributions, tables with ever-increasing keys and tables that have significant
changes in distribution often require manual statistics updates as the following explanation.
1.If a table is very big, then waiting for 20% of rows to change before SQL Server automatically updates the statistics could mean that millions of rows are modified, added or removed before it happens. Depending on the workload patterns and the data,
this could mean the optimizer is choosing a substandard execution plans long before SQL Server reaches the threshold where it invalidates statistics for a table and starts to update them automatically. In such cases, you might consider updating statistics
manually for those tables on a defined schedule (while leaving AUTO UPDATE STATISTICS enabled so that SQL Server continues to maintain statistics for other tables).
2.In cases where you know data distribution in a column is "skewed", it may be necessary to update statistics manually with a full sample, or create a set of filtered statistics in order to generate query plans of good quality. Remember,
however, that sampling with FULLSCAN can be costly for larger tables, and must be done so as not to affect production performance.
3.It is quite common to see an ascending key, such as an IDENTITY or date/time data types, used as the leading column in an index. In such cases, the statistic for the key rarely matches the actual data, unless we update the Statistic manually after
every insert.
So in the case above, we could perform manual statistics updates by
creating a maintenance plan that will run the UPDATE STATISTICS command, and update statistics on a regular schedule. For more information about the process, please refer to the article:

Problem regarding scheduling of maintenance plan

I am facing the problem during the scheduling of maintenancepan thruough IP10 follwing error is coming
"Planned date for maintenance plan 124 was scheduled for 00.00.0000"

Diagnosis
During scheduling of the maintenance plan, the planned date was set to 00.00.0000.
This error can occur, if, for example, the cycle for the planned schedule is too big (offset) means that the planned date is actually after the 31.12.9999.
Procedure
Check the master data of the maintenance plan to ensure that no date is calculated after the 31.12.9999.
If necessary, check the counters used and the annual performance.
I explore all the things in SPRO also also check the setting parameter for the plan but i didnt get any breakthrough for my above problem.Plz guide me whats the exactly problem with scheduling of of maintenance plan.
