Unable to set up wireless network between macbook pro and Pixma MX860 printer/scanner

I am about ready to throw everything out the window. I have followed the advice given in an archived discussion on this forum, but I always get hung up just a few steps from the end when I don't get the window I'm supposed to get.
Supposedly, I'm to link the computer and printer initially with the USB cable, configure it, and then it's supposed to work WITHOUT the USB cable.
I've configured the printer in my MacBook Pro, but I'm supposed to "highlight the access point" (presumably my router) in the IJ printer window, and it isn't there.
I've tried running a LAN cable from my printer to my router. That doesn't work, either.
I'm running Snow Leopard (still a bit afraid of Lion).

I'm not familiar with your printer but from what you have said, can I ask the following questions:
Have you actually been able to print using a cable from from Mac Book Pro to your printer, or is this a new setup?
From my own experience with routers/computers/printers you normally have to pair the router to your printer/computer if connecting wirelessly, this involves pressing one or more buttons on the back of the router, then type in the very long security (WEP) keys printed on the bottom of the router.
Apologies if you're not presented with the same problems as I did, but at least it's a start!
Pairing of laptop computers and printers using wifi using the router is sometimes overlooked - look for the WEP keys/access codes and buttons on the back or underside of the router, write down the numbers and letters, and check out whether any buttons on the router need to be pressed!!!

I set up homesharing between macbook pro and desktop pc.  I have attempted to sync songs on my mac and pc, but the ipod will not sync the full library.  why not?

    Hey harold WD!
You will want to consolidate your entire library onto one computer using Home Sharing in order to sync all of these items onto your iPod. Use the following article to help you accomplish this:

  • How to set up internet connection between MacBook Pro and an old eMac?

I got an old eMac without wifi and a MacBook Pro. I'd like to share the network connection via ethernet cable to my eMac, but I can't get it work.
I'd like to use it with screenrecycler and it needs a network connection.
How to do it? How to set up the connection between the client and the host? Could somebedy give me a step by step guide?
    Thank you very much

    Hello,
First, are you using Wifi for Internet on the MBP?
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list, Wifi on the MBP.
In Shating on both, enable File Sharing, Screen Sharing, & Web Sharing on both.
Then with the Ethernet cable between the two, find the IPs of both, or use Finder>Go>Connect to Server>Browse... see what shows up.

Do you mean the printer driver? The software that tells the computer you have a printer? If that's what you mean then the answer is Mac OS X doesn't need you to install any software to use your printer. For most printers, you can just plug in via USB and print. In any case if you can't you can download the Mac version of the driver from the printer's website.

  • Trying to set up my brand new MacBook Pro and it does not connect with the wifi network I have selected for this purpose. Nothing wrong with the wifi as both my iPad and iPhone are happily connected. Suggestions for connecting to the wifi network accepted

Setting up my brand new MacBook Pro and it will not connect to the wifi network. Nothing wrong with the network which is happily working for my iPhone and iPad! Suggestions accepted for making this connection.

Fixing this is a two step process:
    1) System preferences > WiFi/Airport ...
... check [√] Ask to join new networks
"Known networks will be joined automatically.
If no known networks are available, you will
be asked before joining a new network."
    2) Remove unwanted networks from the list of "known" networks under
    System preferences > WiFi/Airport > (Advanced) > | Airport/WiFi pane ...
Close the window and save changes. If no joy, do a restart to ensure you are playing under the new rules.

  • (Trouble printing) Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510.

Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510. (Nothing Prints).
I have a Macbook Pro and am having difficulty printing documents from ‘Pages' from my Hp Deskjet 1510. I have installed the necessary software for the printer and it is connected via USB. Every time I try to print the printer icon comes up as it should, 'printing' and then 'job completed' and then the icon disappears. (Nothing is printed.) I thought it might be something to do with Pages compatibility with the printer but exporting the document to Word or making it a PDF doesn’t change anything. I don’t have Microsoft Word on my computer. The scanner does work and when I printed a ‘Test Page’ that worked too.
Let me know if you know why this is happening.

With these settings the network now works flawlessly, however, when i have my ethernet cable plugged in, my internet access via my airport card(on the macbook pro) is no longer available. Hoping you can tell me why this would be with this info i've provided.
Educated guess. The networking devices have priorities as to which are used. The standard order is that Ethernet has a higher priority than Airport.
While your Ethernet is unplugged it is inactive and the Mac ignores it. Once you plug it in, the Mac sees that it is active and switches traffic to that interface.
I actually take advantage of this feature at home, but configuring my Airport and Ethernet with identical fixed IP addresses. Normally I'll use Airport, but if I'm copying a huge file and I want faster performance, I'll just walk my MacBook (previously iBook, previously Powerbook) over to my Ethernet switch and plug in my MacBook. Magically, the Mac detects that the Ethernet is active and continues the file transfer uninterrupted over the faster 100baseT Ethernet connection. When the transfer is finished, or if I really need to move back to the Comfy Chair, I unplug the Ethernet cable, and all activity reverts back to the Airport, all without disrupting any existing networking connections.
You on the other hand have totally different settings for your Ethernet and your Airport, so when you switch to Ethernet, you basically loose your Airport connections.
    Something you can try:
    System Preferences -> Network
Gear icon on the bottom left, next to the [+] [-] icons.
    Select *Set Service Order...*
Now Drag the network interfaces into the perfer priority order you want. In this case put Airport above Ethernet.
NOTE: You may want to create a new Network Location for this, instead of messing with your normal home Location (which is most likely the default Automatic. That way you have your original you can always fall back to.

  • I can't sync my all email message between macbook pro and iPad 4

    Hi,
I can't sync my all email message between macbook pro and iPad 4. This sync only complete account setting but not email message.
Can anybody help me to fix the problem?

You can't "fix" this problem because you can't sync email messages from the Mac mail app, you can only sync your email account settings. Messages will not sync using iTunes.

  • Printing issue between macbook pro and windows 7 pc

I am trying to print from my macbook pro to an HP printer, scanner and copier all in one unit. It worked perfect with my old xp pc but with the windows 7 I can't get them to communicate with each other. I was told by geek squad at best buy that I probably need to get a different router. they suggesed airport. My would like to know which one I need. I want to print to the printer that is attached to my windows 7 machine from my macbook pro. I also have couple other xp machines that are used from time to time and I need to be able to print from them as well. any suggestions??? frustrated in Birmingham

One more comment. Wired connection seem to be stable neither. I have ping running to the Windows computer and after a couple of minutes, it gets broken.
However if I have both WiFi and cable connection to the home router and disconnect from cable (after ping is broken), I get the network to the Windows comptuer back. Nothing serious on the network change, I just get 192.168.1.x instead of 192.168.1.y as IP).
During this network switch I do nothing with the Windows computer.
This is not valid if I want to connect to the Windows computer via Microsoft sharing (smb://192.168.1.x), then it immediately breaks the connection. Can't get it back until Windows is restarted.
    Getting lost...

Trying to set up iCloud on my MacBook Pro, and I get to the point where it tells me to view my email for further instructions on verification of my account, but there is no such email in my inbox, even after submitting multiple requests to resend the email. Any idea what I can do? Mark

Well, running on a 2006 model.  I did not have a startup disc.  Initially, it booted up on original software in 2006.  Since then, I've upgraded to 10.6 via a box set.  And, since then I think I popped it up to lion.
All I have on a disc is snow leopard.  And, I can't get farther than the setup screen due to hard drive.  I'm taking to a apple authorized repair store right now.  We'll see what they tell me .  I'm just going to weigh the cost of repair vs. buying new.
Another bad, stupid thing is I had no means of backing up my stuff.  So, I might have lost things like music, vids, etc.  we'll see if they can recover.  If the cost is too much for repair I might just forget it and start over with a new system.  Just not sure at this point.

  • Can i remotely share files between macbook pro and iMac

Want to know if I can do remote file sharing between macbook pro and imac.

Yes, absolutely. She can access her iMac from anywhere that has an Internet connection. If Screen Sharing is enabled, she can log in and use it as if she were seated at the iMac.
Provided the iMac's router supports the Bonjour Sleep Proxy (obviously all Apple AirPort Base Stations do), the iMac can even be asleep, and BTMM will wake it upon the router receiving a request to access the iMac.
The speed of her available Internet connection will be a limiting factor. Slower connections will be a bit laggy.
Her iMac will appear in a Finder Sidebar, under "Shared".

  • Help! Making a Wireless Network between a PC and Mac and more.

I am trying to make a network between my powerbook and my fiance's pc, so we can share printers. I have an Airport Express and I bought her a Netgear Wireless PCI card. The PCI card is installed and has located the Aiport network. How do I get it to see the printer attached? Is Bonjour necessary? I'm downloading it via the Mac and then transferring the file by Zip because for some reason it wasn't downloading properly on the PC.
Also of note, we use dial-up to connect to the net so this network is again just to share the printers we have, and maybe files.
Printer sharing: I have my HP deskjet connected via a 4-port hub to my Airport. My computer recognizes the HP but when I connected the Lexmark 2250 it couldn't see it at all. Why is that? What can I do to fix it? I have the latest Lexmark Drivers.
How do I get my Mac to see the PC for file transferring, etc? I've been searching through apple's site for information and nothing is really helping me. I am gonna explode.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.
    Seth

Ok I got the PC to see my HP 940c wirelessly using Bonjour. However, I still can't get the Lexmark 2250 to show up on either the mac or pc wirelessly when connected to the hub? Is using a 4-port hub connected to the Airport express just not going to cut it for making a multiple printer hub?
I'd really like to do this plus make an network between the two computers.

  • New macbook does not "see" my network, old macbook pro and iphones do...

Yesterday I installed an upgrade to my airport extreme base station, now my macbook pro and the 2 iphones in the household see the wifi network but the other macbook does not. It does see the neighbors wifi networks and will see it when I connect via a cable to the base station by no wireless connection... help!

I am having a similar problem. I have 19 iBooks in a classroom and, suddenly, none of them can see the AirPort Express network when they log on. Instead, the iBooks try to connect to a Windows-based school network. I have designated the AEBS network as the only preferred network but the iBooks NEVER try to connect to it first. However, if you click on the AirPort icon in the menu bar, the AEBS network is clearly visible and clicking on it immediately connects you to the AEBS network.
When I originally set up the network in January, everything worked just fine. After the upgrade to AE Firmware 5.7 and various OS X 10.4.5 updates, everything has gone downhill. I had the dropped signal problem that so many have reported. I downgraded to AE Firmware 5.5.1 and followed J. Exby's procedure to upgrade the AEBS framework. That solved the dropped signal problem. But now my iBooks cannot find the AEBS network when they log in.
I have set the AirPort Network Preferences to connect Automatically or to Preferred Networks with the same result. I have also set the option to "Keep looking for recent networks" and it never finds our AEBS network. Yet, the network can be accessed manually through the AirPort icon.
BTW, I use one of the iBooks myself and it works perfectly and finds my preferred network in 2 other locations with non-AEBS networks. But it cannot see its own preferred network in school.
This is really bugging my students--and me! Any suggestions? THANKS!
