Try deleting the addressBook database, /Users/username/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook-v22.abcddb.
Address Book automatically creates that file from the metadata.

I'm having issues with it installing on my computer.  It says my computer won't support it.  It's an older computer, I bought it in 2006. It was the first macbook pro. It's original operating system was leopard but it's been upgraded to snow leopard.  I'm not a computer guru just so you know Here are the specs of this computer:
Any help would be much appreciated!
It's probably not a 64-bit capable processor. Check in the Apple menu->About this Mac what it says your processor is. You need at least a Core 2 Duo. The original Core Duo cannot run 64-bit code and Lightroom requires a 64-bit capable processor: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom/tech-specs.edu.html

  • I want to migrate to new Mac. How do I also Restore the partition with old Snow Leopard?

I will install a second internal HD first, and use Time Machine Restore to it with the Migration Assistant on the new Mac's Mountain Lion.
Then I will erase the preinstalled Mountain Lion internal HD, and:
How do I now proceed to Restore to an internal partition on the new Mac, my (still) left Time Machine copy of Snow Leopard,( just a spare system partition, also for Power PC Apps)?
If I install a new Snow Leopard first from DVD and then tries the Migration Assistant in it, can it us a Mountain Lion Time Machine backup of the Snow Leopard partition? Or can Mountain Lion Migration Assistant be used for Restoring and Migrating Snow Leopard.
I do not have a Snow Leopard Time Machine backup copy of the partition left. Otherwise I could have taken that on a new installed Snow Leopard.
Thankful for all ideas, also I understand that HD Restore fully on the whole partition without using Migration Assistant will not work.
    Another question:
I hope that I can use my new Mac with the old Mac OS X licenses and transfer the new preinstalled Mac OS Mountain Lion license to the old Mac, before giving it away?
    Thanks,
    /groundliner

    Thanks!
I'm not familiar with the issue of what Mac OS new Macs manages. That puts things in another perspective. I have Lion on a fast 8 GB USB Stick, can I not boot from that either? Of Course, I may be able to put the Mountain Lion Installer on the stick, instead. It could not upgrade the stick to Mountain Lion due to not having enough space for that. But I maybe could fix that. Just wondering - I have several hard disks around, I could try to put the preinstalled Mountain Lion OS version on one of those. Best copying method?
I did not know that transfer of OS Mountain Lion was not allowed. Leopard license document mentions transfer of hardware and software to another person. So I thought the Mac App Store license was similar - bought for and on just this old iMac, that it also could be transferred to another person. Which would solve the problem for my friend who should have it!
I keep planning, but I think running old Power PC Apps maybe was no big deal.

  • Unable to change to GUID partition scheme so Snow Leopard can be installed

Upgrading from OS 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on Macbook 4.1 with Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM. Instructions state "Macintosh HD" can't be used because it does not use the GUID partition Table Scheme. Use Disk Utility to change the partition scheme. Select the disk, use the Partition Tab, select the Volume Scheme, and then select Options.
Problem: The Options button is grayed out. The Partition Map Scheme is Apple Partition Map.
Note: Macbook purchased in 2008, but the hard drive was replaced in April 2011. Hard drive Information:
    Name :
    TOSHIBA MK1655GSXF Media
    Type :
    Disk
    Partition Map Scheme :
    Apple Partition Map
    Disk Identifier :
    disk0
    Media Name :
    TOSHIBA MK1655GSXF Media
    Media Type :
    Generic
    Connection Bus :
    Serial ATA 2
How do I change the partition scheme to GUID?

This requires that you repartition the entire drive as follows:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. At this point you can quit DU and return to the installer and install Snow Leopard.
If you have data you wish to save then you need to backup before doing the above.

Have you looked at the manufacturer's website to see if there is an updated driver for it?
If that doesn't work, I do not know which of the KP troubleshooting steps might resolve the issue. In your place, I would try each one.

  • Firefox clogs my CPU with all cores on my Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.4

I usually browse the web heavily as I open around 300 tabs sometimes. However, with the recent update of Firefox, I have 3.6.8 running on my latest Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.4; soon after I open my browser it becomes deadly slow after a while. The activity monitor shows Firefox eating up all cycles on all cores. I noticed that this happens after I open a site with flash or an applet in it, but not sure though. It also crashes.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Keychain does an okay job of it.
But I much prefer 1Password. It costs $39. There's a promotion on at MacUpdate right now, where you can get it bundled with Parallels Desktop, Tech Tool Pro, and seven other decent apps for only $50, instead of the $367 all the apps would cost if bought individually.

  • Upgrade leopard to snow leopard with preexisiting snow leopard time machine backup

I was using an old desktop Mac that had been upgraded to snow leopard from leopard a few years ago. Disk utility said I needed to repair my hard drive using the installation discs. I didn't have the snow leopard installation disc but still had the leopard installation disc which I used. When the computer re-installed leopard onto my hard drive, it created a partition: one with my hard drive running snow leopard, and then a new one with the space left over, running leopard. I got my replacement snow leopard installation discs and would like to delete the leopard partition, and go back to what I had before with the snow leopard drive. I do have a time machine backup (somewhat incomplete) and am making a copy of the physical snow leopard drive. I cannot access the most recent time machine backup since I'm back to running leopard and the time machine backup was made under snow leopard. I'm not sure how to proceed from here to upgrade to snow leopard. When I try to upgrade to snow leopard, I'm asked which destination drive to use. I don't want to use the snow leopard drive, since it would get deleted. So, would the leopard drive be the answer in this case? And what would happen to the contents of my old snow leopard drive? Would I end up with two partitions, both with snow leopard, but one being current (nothing on it) and the other being my old drive? Would I be able to get rid of the current drive and then use only my old drive? Thanks in advance for any help.

First of all, it's unclear to me why you cannot select the old Snow Leopard partition.
I also think you should have been able to repair hard disk using the leopard CD disk without actually installing leopard OSX by using the Utilities only.
Also, Why is your Time Machine backup incomplete? Is that under Leopard or Snow Leopard?
Now you have two partitions with two different OSX (Leopard and Snow Leopard). Your goal is to get back to Snow Leopard.
I going to assume that the original Snow Leopard partition is inoperable (this is also question?) I would upgrade the Leopard partition to Snow Leopard. Afetrwards, use the Migration Assistant to bring in your data, documents, app, and settings. Once complete, you should be able to see your Time Machine backups. If all is ok then you can delete the original Snow Leopard partition.
This is a somewhat complicated situation, so I am issuing a caveat that is my opinion only. Wait until another expert provides input regarding your situation to determine the best course of action.

  • 1st Mac (Snow Leopard)...not sure how to back up

Just got my first Mac (iMac) with Snow Leopard; purchased from a friend who upgraded systems. I am EXCITED and want to upgrade to Mountain Lion but worried on doing something wrong; still learning the ropes if you know what I mean. I have an external (Lacie Rugged), and have tried the TM feature to backup. It backed-up without issues but this was several weeks ago. Since, Mountain Lion has released and I want it! So, I think I need to back-up the HD again because in these last several weeks I have been learning and tweaking the iMac to my personal setting and needs. It is slightly different from the original back-up. I do have all disc's in case something happens but I am trying to avoid a reformat. I will however if I absolutely have to.
    My questions are:
    1) will backing-up the system again over-write the previous backup file on the Lacie external? . . . or simply create a who;e new file in which I can then delete the first one?
    2) will I need to delete the previous back-up file first (on the Lacie) and proceed with a new (second) back-up?
    3) if the back-up is done with the Snow Leopard OS X, will it reinstall on the system should an issue occur if upgraded with the newly released Mountain Lion?
    4) will reformat be a best option to simply start fresh?
The system runs flawless but has my friends name on the home (house icon) account. I am aware that to change this name, I think I need to create a new account. I am not sure however exactly how to do this or if I can delete his after I do; remember...1st Mac. (still learning). I did manage to change the name of the computer to mine.
    5) do files need to be transferred from his old (name; house icon) account to my newly created account in order to avoid issues if I do create this new account? if so, which specific files or all of them?
Ideally, I would like ONLY my info on this system but it's not a major concern for me since I know who I bought it from and that all previous owner settings were wiped clean: well almost.  I have read about prepping the system for the ML upgrade and verified and repaired the disk so that is done. I just need to make sure that a back-up is done correctly and if something should go wrong...I can get all the files back up and running even with the newly upgraded Mountain Lion OS X. I hope I am making sense here.
Anyway, I thought someone could give me a step by step break down on what exactly I need to do to get this done? ... and about the new account creation and how this exactly is done the RIGHT way.
    Thanks

Well first you need to check to make sure your Mac meets the 10.8 specifications.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS_X_Mountain_Lion
If you don't knwo what your Mac is, use the free MacTracker and then the Apple Menu > About this Mac > More informationa nd look for a model number like MacBook Pro 3,1 and use MacTracker search feature.
Next your going to have to make a copy of your existing data to a external storage drive, not TimeMachine which you currently have.
    Most commonly used backup methods
When you upgrade to 10.8, your going to have a different machine anyway, so your going to be setting it up all over again. It doesn't make too much sense to restore from TM for just a few files as it takes a long time and copies over stuff from the previous owner. So it's faster and safer to just import your files manually when 10.8 is installed.
If your Mac will run 10.8, you have to realize that likely software you currently have (and is not yours) will no longer work or be there after this proceedure, it's to make sure it's all you and not someone elses.
First follow this method to erase and install 10.6 again, it's so you start clean and there are no conflicts/problems or issues  as your AppleID is used to download 10.8 and any app store software is copy protected.
This way your updating 10.6.8 (Software Updated) to 10.8 on a "Fresh install" which is better than trying a upgrade.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Make sure your iLife package is installed (look for iPhoto and if there it is) just use the bunded app installer if you have the grey/black 10.6 disks. White 10.6.3 disks don't have iLife, so you'll be buying it from the AppStore again later with your AppleID so you can get updates for it.
Next log into App Store and download 10.8 and upgrade, you do need a fast, reliable internet connection as it's large download.
