Unable to shoot tethered with a Canon 70D

I am trying to practice shooting tethered for an upcoming shoot. I am unable to get Lightroom and my Canon 70D to connect. I receive the dialog box shown below several seconds after attempting to connect. I went through all the steps on the "Troubleshooting tethered capture in Lightroom" and can shoot tethered using Canon's software. I am using Lightroom 5.3 on a MacBookPro 13 inch with 16 gb ram running system 10.9.1

Lightroom does not currently support tethering on the 70D.

  • Can i shoot tethered with two cameras?

I've read that I can shoot tethered with two cameras in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. When I tether them to my iMac 27", one will work. Then I switch cameras in the "shooting module" to the other body (both bodies are Nikon D800) and then it freezes up. Do they need to be named differently? Is that even possible. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Canon supports two camera attachment for tethering.
    Nikon does not.

    Notes on Nikon cameras
    For all Nikon cameras:
If you trigger the shutter with the tether bar capture button, the image must finish downloading before another photo can be captured. Triggering a capture with the shutter release button on the camera does not have this limitation.
Images do not save to the compact flash card. They are only downloaded to the computer.
Only one Nikon camera can be attached at a time.

  • Unable to use PE9 with my Canon 5D Mark III

I could use some help please.  When I try to download my new Canon 5D Mark III Raw into PE9 I get an error message telling me that PE is unable to open it because it is the wrong file type.  My new Canon 5D Mark III lists the file type as ST8Axxxx instead of the normal IMG_xxxx that I'm used to.  Can anyone tell me how to use PE9 with my Canon 5D Mark III camera?  Thank you!

    Hi,
The 5D MK III is not supported by PSE 9. It requires ACR 6.7 or 7.1 which will not apply to PSE 9.
    You can either :-
    1) Update to a newer version of elements
    2) Use the Canon software to covert the raw files to TIF files and then import the TIF files
    3) Download and install the free Adobe DNG Converter. Convert the raw files to DNG files and then import the DNG files into elements.
You can obtain latest dng converter from:

    windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows
    Hope it helps

  • Can I shoot tethered with my D3x to Lightroom 3.6 on my Macbook Pro OS 10.7?

I'm getting conflicting information on whether or not I can shoot my D3x camera tethered to my laptop with the new Lion operating system directly into Lightroom.  Any suggestions?

This link will take you to the official list of cameras where Lr suports tethering http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/tethered-camera-support-lightroom-4.html

  • Shooting tethered with a Nikon D810

Does anyone know where I can check to see when Lightroom will be updated to allow tethered shooting with a Nikon D810?

It is a shame.... so much so that I now use Capture One Pro 8 for tethering my D810.  I am also thinking of totaling going to it as part of my workflow.  Tethered to Capture One Pro you get the image instantly unlike Lightroom that likes to think!

  • Shooting Tethered with Aperture

Is it possible to have your files automatically imported into Aperture while you are shooting them?
If not, I think they have left out a massively important feature for a professional photographer!

  • Aperture 3 tethered with Nikon D300 trouble

I've been having trouble shooting tethered with Aperture 3 and the Nikon D300. It works for a few shots then it jams with the spinning wheel until i have to force quit. Also the inspector column gets messed up with type over type. I'm assuming apple will issue an update for this but i'm not very impressed. I have been using Capture one, trial version in the meantime to get by until a fix arrives and it has been working fine. Nice fast captures and no BS. <Edited By Host>

I gave up with shooting tethered in Aperture 3. I now use Capture one 5 Pro from phase one. I use Aperture for the image adjustment because i like the built in retouch tools and the image management (although my search does not work in Aperture 3, waiting for an update). I'm not impressed with Apple software right now.
Capture one works flawless tethered, the fastest importing i've ever had and didn't take long to get used to the focus tools etc. Try the 30 day free trial and you'll see. When I'm done a shooting session, i just drag the capture folder (with the NEF files) onto a flash drive and import them into Aperture for adjustment.

  • Aperture FREEZES WHILE TETHERED with Nikon D90

I shoot a lot in my studio, so shooting tethered with my Nikon D90 is very useful... UNTIL Aperture freezes every 10-15 captures, so I have to FORCE QUIT it and restart. This, of course, is SUPER ANNOYING, especially when CLIENTS are watching.
Can anyone please enlighten me what's going on, and how I could alleviate the problem? I'm running the latest version of Aperture on a MacBook Pro 17" with a 2.3GHz processor and 4GB of RAM. And I'm usually not running anything other than iTunes alongside Aperture while shooting. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I finally gave up on tethered shooting with my Nikon D3 and Aperture 3. Aperture crashed every fifth shot or so and made me crazy. I tried new libraries, new cables, faster computer, etc. I submitted countless bug reports. I waited patiently for a software fix, because I never had this problem with Aperture 2.
I gave up and rolled back to Aperture 2 on my laptop (which I use only for tethered shooting). Now tethering works perfectly again; it's a software issue. I've had one crash in maybe 2000 shots with Aperture 2, and I can live with that. It's a crummy solution, but it's either that or I buy Lightroom and scrap Aperture for good.
FYI: the raw converter is different in Ap2 than Ap3. What looks good in Ap2 looks underexposed in Ap3 (almost by a stop, looking at the histograms), and the color rendering is quite different between the two. If you try this Ap2 solution out, do some testing before you do a live shoot to make sure you're happy with your results.

  • Need Photoshop Elements RAW plugin for Canon 70D using MAC

Need Photoshop Elements RAW plugin for Canon 70D using MAC - please advise where I can find it to download. Thanks.

To work with the Canon 70D, you will need Camera Raw version 8.2 or later:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
In order to work with this version of Camera Raw, you will need Photoshop Elements 12:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
If you do not have Photoshop Elements 12, you can use the DNG converter to convert the CR2 files to DNG, which will then work in whatever version of Photoshop Elements you have:

  • Tethering with Nikon D600 - no camera found!!!!

This is incredibly frustrating to have a $2,000+ camera that cannot connect to Lightroom.  It really impacts the value of both Lightroom and my camera if they don't talk to each other.  Please advise when you anticipate this being fixed in an update.

    Lee Jay wrote:
Then why did you buy the camera?
Well ... considering Aperture and Capture One both support the D600 for tethering, some folks would think the world's leading graphics and imaging software developer would also have supported the D600 by now ... the idea we should be held hostage by a third party developer to base your equipment purchase decisions is just a tad ridiculous ... sometimes we are in need of upgrading equipment for more reasons than what you or Adobe may consider important ... Adobe is NOT the center of the Universe ...
Adobe should be a bit more responsive to stay current ... if they don't consider it a priority to do so, or feel it is too difficult to offer support for tethered shooting, maybe they should drop tether support all together ... it can't be that difficult to offer the support if others can get the job done ... we are not discussing a topic so complex as manned space flight to Mars ... we simply would like to transfer image data from camera to computer at the point of capture ... a task that is not as complex as some would like us to believe ...
To the OP - You can shoot tethered with Lr on Mac OS X as long as you have installed the current Digital Camera RAW compatibility updates ... then use the included Image Capture app (found in the Applications folder) and then point Lr to a watched folder for auto import (this would be the folder you select in Image Capture) ... you won't be able to trigger the camera from within Lr or adjust camera settings ... but you can get the job done this way until Adobe decides it's time to catch up.

  • Tethering with LR and 7D

While tethering with my Canon 7D is there any way to automatically have the pictures that are taken immediately watermarked and stylized?  I went to a photobooth at a nightclub and they took this picture:
    http://generationdomination.com/_media/photos/ba2d2fd456_f.jpg
And right after the picture was taken he immediately had it put up on 2nd monitor that was off to the side.  His setup was pretty simple, camera, macbook, flash, 2nd monitor and props.  I believe he was running photoshop, bridge, EOS utility.
Any help on how he achieved this?? Thanks

would it immediately be stylized as soon as the photo is taken?  He had the ability to snap the photo... click one time on the computer then it was moved over to the slideshow with the watermark at the bottom right along with the styling

  • Canon 70D and Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch

Can the Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch be used with the Canon 70D.  Is an adapter needed to allow the use.

    An adapter is needed.
All of these wired remote releases use 3-conductor wire.  On the 70D, the camera uses a 3-conductor jack that resembles a stereo headphone jack.  On the RS-80N3, the jack is completely different.
You may want to just get an RS-60E3 since it's fairly inexpensive.
If you were using the Canon TC80N3 remote trigger / intervalometer, then it'd be worth getting the adapter.
The Canon RA-E3 adapter cable has one end that goes into the 70D (most any camera that uses stereo-headphone jack style connector) and the other end has the 3-conductor plug that the RS-80N3 and TC80N3 use.
The "trick" is finding the RA-E3.  The only reason I knew this thing existed is because it comes with the Canon 60Da astrophotography camera.  But it turns out Canon doesn't normally sell it as an accessory.  You actually have to call their parts department -- it's treated more like a replacement part than an accessory cable.

  • Nikon D40 and shooting tethered

Is it possible to shoot tethered with the Nikon D40? I can't get it to work. Can anyone help and possibly post the steps to do this?

Nikon Camera Control Pro works just fine with a D40, and a USB lead, shoots any interval, for as long as you want. Nothing else needed, but have not used in some time. I'd rather use the same software that was storing my pictures, eg Ap. I'll be wanting to use a D300 for future outdoor work in that department, the facility being built-in, hence no laptop outside alone at night:-).

  • Tethered shooting with Canon 70D and Lightroom 5 on Mac

I am tired of looking at a tiny screen on my Canon 70D and learned about tethering my camera to the Macbook. Well, I am about to purchase the cable, and thought to look into if Canon 70D is supported. Now I see that many have problems with it and wonder what I can do?
This forum stuff is so tedious and I just want a straight answer from Adobe what is possible and what is not, yet they make you search the Internet for hours wondering how to formulate the question so you get the right answers. Then you wait…. and "maybe" you get the right answer.

    70D isn't supported for tethering.
