Unable to SMS text on Ipad Mini - Genius bar unable to solve

I am unable to send or recieve SMS text this week to my contacts without Iphones-> imessage won't allow. I have an Ipad mini on AT&T service that has worked fine x 2 years until last week. Apple store Genius bar (2 techs worked on this problem) suggested I buy a new Ipad when they could not solve the problem. This is very frustrating, everything else works fine.

What model cell phone do you have?
Not that it really matters, because Apple jsut recently added the "Continuity" feature in iOS 8, which means that your iPad or iPod Touch (or Apple Mac) can receive & send text messages through your iPhone, but this capability wasn't available from Apple prior to iOS 8. There are plenty of third party apps which wil you your device's data connection to sent and receive messages via their servers with a SMS gateway they host. That would have been the only way you could have sent SMS messages using your iPad prior to iOS 8.
If you have an iPhone and iOS 8 on both your iPhone and iPad, then you would need both devices to be connected to the same wifi network, and to be logged in using the same AppleID. When you do that login, it will ask you if you want to allow the iPad to send/receive text messages on behalf of the iPhone. I use this feature quite regularly.

I can no longer send SMS text with IPad 4 w/ cellular. There is no option in settings-messages to turn on SMS like on iphone5. Everything is trying to be sent iMessage which fails when sending text to non apple users. This change occurred after last iOS update.

I can confirm this for the Ipad Mini with iOS6.1
Although the cellular hardware is available - the iPad doesn't handle SMS Text messages.
For those trying to use prepaid 3G internet data simcards, not being able to send or receive text messages pretty much cripples most 3G prepaid internet simcard packages available around the world.

Is there a key for entering text on ipad mini for the schwa symbol?

    You're welcome.
It is possible there is an app containing a phonetic keyboard in the app store (or not). I haven't had use for one, so have never checked. Using it would require some copy and past on your part. But it might worth a search.
Oh, just to be clear (should have googled and not trusted my aging memory) you're basically looking for an upside-down "e", right?

  • I am trying to send SMS text via iPad Air and cannot. I have gone into my iPhone and "forward message to iPad". However I am prompted to enter "code shown on iPad"... What code and where do I find that on iPad??

The home screen is the screen that shows all of your app icons. You can have one home screen or up to 11 home screens depending on how many apps you have. The home screen on an iPad is the equivalent of the desktop screen on a computer. If you are using an app, just tap the home button once to return to a home screen.
This is is a (my) home screen.
You you might want to double check the instructions here.

  • Unable to text from iPad mini

Keeps saying text message not sent when I send a message from my mini iPad

Remember your iPad is not a cellular telephone.  It cannot send or receive SMS text messages.  It only sends and receives iMessages, which go to/from other Apple equipment users who are also connected by WiFi (and occasionally a cellular phone network that accepts iMessage).

  • Iphone 5 will not sync with my asus computer.  I have been to the apple store and genius bar can't solve the

I just got an iphone5.  My computer itunes recognizes the iphone when connected, but will not sync.  I have been to the Apple genius bar and they have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes several times and did everything they could think of, but still it would not sync.  I have an ipad2 that syncs with no problem.  So they told me to go get some computer help elsewhere...blamed it on Windows? Thanks!

You can poke around in the settings. There's a lot of stuff defaulted to on that you may not need. Such as notifications. Background app update, background app update. Try turning those off and see if that helps.

  • How to use texting on ipad mini?

You have to set up your iMessage account on it and then you can iMessage other people using iDevices.
In the Safari browser on your mini there are bookmarks to the users manual.

  • Ipad mini app

Looking for an app for my ipad mini that allows me to open word and PDF documents and then be able to take handwritten notes on them.

I have the same problem. My iPad mini's wifi connection is sluggish. Even if the iPad mini is just next to the wifi router showing full signal strength.
    - I tried all the reset, reboot of router and iPad mini etc. options - didn't solve the problem
    Solution (for me)
    - I had a wifi repeater lying around the house and plugged it in (other floor in the house)
    - connected the iPad mini through the repeater (expecting even slower speeds)
---> BUT suddenly the iPad mini was zipping quickly over wifi via the wifi repearter to the wifi router
    Conclusion
Nothing seems to be defect they just don't get along with each other - iPad mini and the wifi router
I assume an iOS update will resolve this issue - sooner or later...

  • Unable to connect iPhone 6 and iPad mini via bluetooth for handoff iOS 8.1

    Hi,
I have been trying to use handoff(Continuity)  between my iPad mini and iPhone 6 both using iOS 8.1.
I managed to be able to do it with iOS 8 with a 5c instead of a 6 but now my iPad can not be detected on my phone and vice versa and if they do appear they will not connect and then disappear off the list.
Its a shame one of the main features I was looking forward to I am unable to use (I can't even use it on my mac because it is outdated!)
Is there anyway to get around this?
Also I know this is off topic but I travel on trains a lot and my iPad mini is not cellular if I can get handoff working again is it possible to still use the sms forwarding feature?
    Thanks,
    Bruce

Your post reads like you think that you are reporting a bug to Apple but be advised that this is a user-to-user technical help forum. You aren't talking to Apple here just other users like yourself. This isn't a bug reporting forum.
To report a problem to Apple use: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
Be advised, however, that I and many others are using iOS 6.1 with WPA2-secured WiFi networks with no problems at all. (iPad 3, iPad 4, iPhone 5)
Did anyone suggest checking if the firmware in your Comcast router is up-to-date or suggest something as simple as restarting the router by removing power to it for 30 seconds?

  • HT4623 updated ipad mini last night with the ios 7.6 and now am unable to restart the pad, we have tried charging it completely and have had no luck in restarting it

updated ipad mini last night with the ios 7.6 and now am unable to restart the pad, we have tried charging it completely and have had no luck in restarting it

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without be charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • How do I load prepaid airtime on ipad mini if it doesn't support SMS?

Please don't tell me to buy a adaptor so that the nano sim fits in iPhone and all that crap! In the middle of the ocean it's impossible to buy anything.

    James, your first clue..".prepaid airtime."
If you know what that is you wouldn't ask questions like that.
in foreign countries you buy local SIM card and use that for data as you travel. This involve buying prepaid data bundles on scratch cards with a code you have to SMS to service provider to activate your amount of data bought.
    Second clue,,,, "on ipad mini"
Ipad mini have a nano SIM card. So know everybody says I must buy a adaptor so the nano sim fits in iPhone and then SMS the code to activate the data as needed. So everything I need to load more data I have to take ipad out of protective cover( working at sea) take out nano sim, try to find a adaptor( in the middle of the ocean) load it in a normal phone, text the code to service provider, receive data and reverse the proses again to get each apple products SIM card to the right product. And all that just to load airtime bc this piece of crap can't send a SMS. Only iMessage. Apple distributors and dealers should provide their clients with the correct information. iM is NOT same as SMS.
So, what I need is a crack or hack or app that I can use to avoid this proses of swapping SIM cards.
So does my question makes more sense now?

  • Why can't iPad mini send text to non apple users????? I wish I knew this before purchase

Why can't iPad mini send text to non apple users????? I wish I knew this before purchase

iMessage is from Apple to communicate with other Apple devices.
iPad is not a phone and does not have SMS/MMS services from a carrier. There are apps that can do this, search the App Store.
