Unable to SNMP Inventory Billion Router

Ah ha. Sorry i'm fairly new to SW but have used other similar tools.
So I can't inventory a router using SNMP on it's publicly accessible WAN IP?

Hi,I am having issues inventorying a router with SNMP. I'm trying to inventory it on the WAN interface as it's on a separate network and Internet connection to the Spiceworks server.I've enabled SNMP on the router and set a community stringI have been reading other questions and answers within the community and have tried a few thingsset the scanning speed to slow and Scanner sends all data instead of deltas to 'on'
deleted the device and let it re-scan
changed the community password to something more simple including public
Run snmpwalk using the tutorial - all it gives me is a blank log file.
Had a look at the finder_discovery.log - couldn't find anything that told me anything significant. At the moment i'm just trying to determine whether it's the router or spiceworks that's the issue. If i could get snmpwalk to work that would be...

  • HP Officejet Pro 8000 Wireless: HP printer unable to connect to wireless router.

Installing new printer,  getting error msg saying HP printer unable to connect to wireless router.   MAC address filtering may be enabled on your wireless router which can prevent HP printer from connecting to your wireless network during setup.
SOLUTION says:  If MAC address filtering is enabled and you would like to keep it enabled, you must add the MAC addressof your printer to the list of permitted devices for your wireless router before continuing.
My router is WD My Net N900 Router. MAC filtering is diabled. My security mode is WPA/WPA2 Personal.
I have run out of ideas to try and fix the issues, would appreciate some help.
    Thanks,

    Hi Jamshidk
I am surprised you are getting that message and you checked the router settings and it is showing that the Mac Filtering is disabled.
I would suggest connecting the printer to the router with a ethernet cable to get a valid IP address and then setup the wireless.
    Print a configuration report.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c01554589&lc=en&product=3760410&tmp...
Type the IP address from the configuration page  in the address bar into internet explorer browser. This will open the embedded web server for the printer. Click on the Networking tab, on the left hand side select wireless. After this is setup and applied, disconnect the ethernet cable.
Should be on the wireless network. Takes about 1 minute.
    Run the add printer wizard.
Go to start, devices and printers and select add a printer. (Win 7)
    Test the printer.

    Oracle 8.1.7, for AIX 4.3.3

I've run into this when I had 2 Oracle homes (each with a different user -- oracle & ias, but the same group -- oinstall). It was a permission problem.
I'd check 2 things. First, that the ownership is correct. If not, fix by something along the lines of chown -R oracle.oinstall $ORACLE_HOME/oraInventory. Second, make sure the permissions are right on the directory. For the oraInventory directory, I usually do chmod -R 775 oraInventory (you could get away with a 755 as long as you only have one owner for the system, which sounds like the case -- I use the 775 because of the two owner issue I mentioned before). That should do it.

  • Unable to setup Inventory

The Install of Oracle 8i on a Solaris 8 System is in progress an the Server goes down.
In the second Step, I reboot the System an try to reinstall Oracel, it causes a problem like this.
After I type the groupname "dba", a window open that means: Unable to setup Inventory, you may not have proper Permissions.
In the First Time I start the Script "orainstRoot.sh", it ist possible that the Script writes anything? Where can I find this? Please, can everyone help me?

You have to log in as root to run the .bash shell. Create a directory 'OraInventory' when logged in as root. Then log in as the user 'oracle'(create one if you don't have one yet) and perform the installation process while keeping a terminal window open and logged in as root.
Throughout the installation process you will have to do some procedures as root so keep the window open.
p/s enter a group ID that's valid. If you put DBA then make sure there is such a group and the group has permission to create write into directories.
    Hope this helps

  • "Unable to setup Inventory, you may not have proper Permissions."

Has anyone had this problem when the GROUP NAME screen appears. After I type the groupname "oinstall", a window opens and states the following:
"Unable to setup Inventory, you may not have proper Permissions."
What is puzzling is that it (Oracle Universal Installer) is able create the directory structure /d01/app/oracle/oraInventory/Install.Platform. Which implies that it has the proper permissions. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Well, there isn't much I can do.
Does anyone have an answer to this problem or have seen this before?
    Thanks

Check the list of prerequisites in the installation manual and be sure you have all of them. Also the manual or couple page addendum that comes with it should refer to an online site where you can find updates. Be sure to check it.
I ran the 9.2.0 install and applied 9.2.0.4 on AIX 5.2L without a hitch so I do not think I could be of much help. But one thing you might want to consider is if Oracle says that a piece of the OS is missing then even if you are running the machine standalone you might need the "group" piece to be installed as part of the OS.
I am not an administrator so the name did not strike any bells but I once tried to install Oracle on a Silicon Graphics box only to discover that it was missing the C compiler. Oracle needs the archive feature to access libraries during the install (link) and failed to install because it was missing. Once I got it installed the reinstallation went perfect.

  • Unable to setup Inventory, 8i 8.1.7

The message "Unable to setup Inventory, you may no have proper permissions", What's happen. I read carefully the manual about Oracle 8i Installation Guide. I set the PATH variables, and DISPLAY VARIABLES
    Another questions?
    After create /ora01/app/oracle
Who is the owner of this directory, the group "oinstall", or the group "dba", I suppoused that the "oinstall" group is.
    Thank for yours help

Where ever you are installing Oracle OS make sure you user oracle have read write premission on the directory.
let say am installing oracle in the following directory.
    /oracle/software
if you do ls -al on the directory you are installing oracle..
    it should look something like.
    drwxr-xr-r 8 oracle dba 512 Aug 6 12:38
The one you are interested in is the premision and who own this..
where ever you are creating your ora_inventory directory make sure you have all the right premision.

  • WRT54G--Unable to connet to the router!

I'm beyond frustrated, so I'm helping someone can help me.
I just took the wireless router out of the box, setup and ran the software on my Dell Inspiron 700m. I get the error message: "Unable to connect to the router! Check that the router has been connected to the PC, or reset the Router to factory default settings by pressing the router's reset button for 5 seconds."
I know you'll need some additional info to solve my problem, but I don't know what it is until you ask.  Sorry.
Please someone help me out.  I've been messing with this thing for days now and I'm about to just toss it out the window.

    1.  Is this a wired connection or wireless?
    - I'm experiencing this problem when the router is wired to my PC.  I haven't made it far enouh in the setup to where I'm dealing with a wireless router yet.
    2.  Do you have DHCP enabled on your machine?
    - I don't know.  How do I enable DHCP?
    3.  This is normal a good deal of the time as the page refreshes before the router can come back up and before your machine can renew it's DHCP address. Have you tried to connect to the internet anyhow when this happens?
    - Yes.  I still can't connect.
    4.  When this happens the next time, what does "ipconfig /all" give you from a command prompt?

  • WRT54G: Unable to connect to the Router!

I have set up my router exactly as told in the setup wizard, but when I get to step 8, I encounter a problem and I get the following error message:
Unable to connect to the Router!
Check that your Router has been connected to the computer, and that your Ethernet adapter is working!
Oddly, my wired internet works just fine through the router, but my wireless doesn't because I can't complete the setup. All the lights that are supposed to be on are on and not blinking or anything.
What do I need to do to fix this?

you can actualy configure the router without using a setup cd.. you can try accessing the router setup page using your working computer that is wired to the router. just go to internet exp. type 192.168.1.1 on the address box.. it will ask for password- just type admin. go to the wireless menu - change the ssid to any name that you want to name your network. try to view wireless networks on your wireless pc and check if you can see the name that you set. connect to it..
you can check if it works.

  • Unable to obtain inventory from some XP PC's

I am unable to obtain version 7.5 inventory info from a handful of XP PC's. I believe it's something to do with this WifName registry entry which is blank on a PC where I cannot obtain inventory.
I have uninstalled the 7.5 client, deleted the registry contents as it leaves them there, deleted the Asset Management firectory from within program files as it doesn't completely uninstall the directory either, and re-installed from scratch. After the new installation the WifName registry entry is still blank.
I am runing the command manually "cclient.exe scannow:edit". This all works on my PC logged on as me but not on another Pc logged on as me. This rules out the Asset Management server, policies, rights to the registry etc which have all been suggested as problms in previous posts.
The ZAM Client and Collector have full access privileges to the ZAM
portion of the Program Files directory as well as to their own portion of
    the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tally Systems
    Corp.\TSCensus\CollectionClient.
The ZAM collection client is set in the services to run as a local
    system account on ALL PC's.
I believe I need to know why this entry is blank to fix the problem.
Secondly, when I run the Setup.exe program to install the client, it asks for my Server name from which it populates cps.ini like so:-
    [CollectionServer]
    Insight
    [CollectionClient]
    InBoxCC
however when I run the .msi that I found today, it doesn't ask for any info and the cps.ini file looks like this:-
    [CollectionServer]
    [CollectionClient]
    Is this significant?
My colw32.log file also contains the message "failed to get WIF path", all the time on the PC that fails but only sometimes on my PC.
    Thanks
    Lenny

Found out what the problem was. The Windows firewall was switched on for the PC's that didn't work.

  • Unable to connect to netgear router and internet

I've installed Solaris 10 1/06 (x86) on a system running an intel mainboard model D865PERL. This has a built in ethernet controller ( Intel 82547EI gigabit lan controller) and the mainboard appears on the bigadmin hcl as being supported. The OS recognizes the built-in NIC as e1000g0 but during initial installation it attempts to configure e1000g0 first thing then responds with "skipped interface e1000g0" then proceeds with the installation.
I choose Networked and run through the installation (or following a sys-unconfig) selecting to enable DHCP but it returns "Could not contact a dhcp server on the network interface e1000g0." I then have to set it up staticly to resume the configurator. I specify the e1000g0's ip address as 192.168.0.5 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. I choose not to enable IPv6 (ive tried it with IPv6 enabled) and no Kerberos. I attempt to specify DNS for name service and use my internet providers domain name (both the name and the resolved ip address associated with it) with the two DNS server ip addresses resolved by the WAN setup on the router (Netgear FR328S), selecting no search domains. But it is unable to locate my hostname on the provided DNS's i entered. dunno why it would say that, it really doesn't matter does it? Anyway, I specify no name service to proceed. i choose no to the question in regards to overriding the system's default NFS version 4 domain name to continue.
It knows it has a cable connection but I'm unable to see the router, even though ive specified 192.168.0.1 as the default route (ive also tried setting it to detect the default route on reboot but it fails). The router doesn't see the NIC as a connected device either (im setting here on another computer running xp :() Ive tried disabling the DHCP server feature on the router and I still cant see it. Ive tried setting the NIC's ip address and MAC address as reserved in the LAN setup on the router (this works for my winXP drive where I need a static IP address and also have access to the internet). I've tried leaving the reserved IP address assignment (attached to the NIC's mac address and host name that i specified) with DHCP enabled but I'm still unable to resolve an IP address from the dhcp server. I made sure the router had the latest firmware and went through the configuration with a fine toothed comb, so to speak. nothing seems to work.
I tried to connect directly to the internet device, removing the router and it still fails to resolve an ip address via dhcp. what am i missing here? Ive run through this multiple times now and im at a loss. Ive also referenced sun's System Administration Guide: IP Service to try to resolve the issue but im now all I'm doing is going in circles.

    Couple of suggestions:
Work first on seeing the router, using a static IP and pings.
Forget about DNS, DHCP, etc for now. If you don't see the router, nothing is going to work.
You don't need to reboot or do sys-unconfig every time. Just change your settings using ifconfig and route add. Actually, you don't even need to set the route to be able to ping something inside your subnet.
By your output of ifconfig, it seems that the NIC plumbed correctly.
In the Solaris machine, try pinging your own IP address to make sure it responds and you don't have any issues with the NIC/driver.
Make sure the cable and port in your router work. If you can use them with Windows, you should be able to use them with Solaris. Unless...
Try using a crossover network cable to connect the Solaris computer to the router. This is personal experience: I had a Blade 100 that would not see my router. After a couple of hours of trying just about everything, I used a crossover cable and voila! it worked. Why? I don't know :) , but it worked...

  • Unable to connect to the router! (wrt54g v. 2)

I just got a router from a garage sale; it was still in the box and everything.
Well, I tried hooking it up to my modem and computer to get wifi, but I can't get it to work.
    This is the setup:
    modem -> router -> computer
I can access the internet when the setup is this way, but there's no wifi, and I can't access 192.168.1.1 or set it up using the CD it came with. When I go through the setting up process with the CD, I get this error message that says "Unable to connect to router! Check that the router has been connected to the computer, and that you're ethernet adapter is working."
When I try to go to 192.168.1.1, it says "The connection has timed out." I can't ping it either.
I've also tried resetting it several times, but that doesn't do anything.
    Someone please help!

Hi sylentknight and welcome to the forums!
You said that you are able to connect to the internet with this set-up: modem -> router -> computer right? So does that mean that you can ping the router when it is connected directly to your computer? Reason why I'm asking is if it does work, you can try to configure the router for the wireless settings while it is directly connected to the router first then try to go wireless. Please let me know if understood your post correctly.
