Unable to start micasad and afptcpd services

When I started AFP service, it said it started but when I checked the
status, it is not.
The log file says:
afptcpd [16460]: Failed to read proxy user credentials. Ensure CASA is
running and AFP casa entery is updated. Error: -803
afptcpd [16460]: [debug] failed to obtain AFP proxy user credentials (1)
<1>. Check proxy user in casa store
afptcpd [16460]: unable to authenticate with AFP proxy user 1 <1>
I tried to reconfigure AFP proxy user by typing yast2 novell-afp. But I
still can not start micasad service or novell-afp service.
I would appreciate it very much if someone can give me some advice on
where I should look at the above issue.

It appears like there is an issue with eDirectory on your set up. The fact that it did not show the tree name suggests that the ldap query to fetch the tree name failed. Are other OES services running normally on your box? To answer your other queries:
- Why doesn't it go into the afp config when afp is installed?
If AFP was chosen to install as part of the OES install then AFP configuration is listed and allows you to modify the configuration.
- Why doesn't it add a yast module?
In YaST if you've chosen to install the novell-afptcpd module it auto-selects the yast2-novell-afp module for install.
- Why have I had to manually configure Casa?
It's not required to manually configure CASA. If the AFP configuration goes through fine, it takes care of storing proxy user credentials in CASA.
- Why when I run yast2 or yast afp-novell does it prompt me for a blank tree and servername that can't be defined?
Like I mentioned before it could be an issue with the eDir. Can you post the log entries of /var/log/YaST2/y2log ?
- Is there another way to configure afp?
You need to do the following to configure AFP:
1) create a proxy user (this is a normal eDirectory user with rights to read AFP users password)
2) ensure AFP users are assigned to a universal password policy
3) add the proxy user (created in step 1) as a reader of passwords to the password policies attached to AFP users
4) run the command:
$ casaforafp
this will prompt you for user credentials. provide the credentials of the AFP proxy user (created in step 1). this steps stores your proxy user credentials in CASA
5) edit the /etc/opt/novell/afptcpd/afpdircxt.conf
file and store the context of AFP users here. For instance, if cn=afpuser.o=mycompany is an AFP user, store o=mycompany in afpdircxt.conf
run AFP: rcnovell-afptcpd start
if you still see issues post the contents of: /var/log/afptcpd/afptcp.log

  • Unable to start SQL Server Browser service in Sql server 2005

    we are unable to start the SQL browser service on one of our machine with below error.
    I believe this to be the reason, why we could not connect to the instance with below error
    I tried troubleshooting as mentioned here, by changing
    value in registry from 1 to 0, but still no luck.
    SQLservices are also running.
    Please help on how to resolve this!

    You say that SQL Server Browser Service belongs to a SQL Server 2005, but based on the name of the instance is a SQL Server
    2012 instance.
    Do you have any issues installing/uninstalling SQL Server 2005 or 2012? One of them 32-bit and the other 64-bit?

  • Unable to start User Profile Sync Service

    Hi,
    I am currently facing some issues with starting the User Profile Sync Service on my SP2013 farm.. I was wondering if someone could help me out a bit.
    I have successfully installed the SP2013 farm on a environment that has access to our AD etc. and I have also
    restored the database from SP2007 and converted it to Claims authentication etc. The one thing I can’t get to work is to enable the User Profile Sync Service on the server. I have checked quite a bit of TechNet blogs and other sites and tried almost everything
    suggested but it still fails. I’ve also recreated the farm from scratch yesterday again but no luck still

    The below is what I have done:
    Farm Admin account – spadmin2013 is local admin on all SP Farm servers (2 WFE and 2 APP Servers) and has log on locally rights as well on security policy. On the SQL DB it has dbo permissions on the Sync, Profile and Social DB’s.
    Farm Service account – spservice-s is a managed farm account that is used to run the various services of the farm (used during the config wizard part).
    From within the Admin Control Panel I have verified the managed accounts and it is indeed spadmin2013 which owns the User Profile Sync Service (not the application itself). When I try to start the service it tries to do that for 5-10 minutes and then fails
    and goes back to stop and I do not see any error. I have created a custom service application with new database that runs on spadmin2013/spfarm/ldap accounts etc. I can see from the Windows services – FIM and FIMSync service try to start using the spadmin2013
    and then go back to disabled. I have also tried giving the spadmin2013 rights to replicate the AD as few blogs suggested that. I am not sure where this is going wrong or what is missing. I had successfully got this to work and still can get it to work on my
    first SP2013 server which is a standalone – running SQL, SP app and WFE on the same box.
    In fact I also tried to activate this service first before I joined my 3 other servers to the farm and had no luck. I am kinda lost here as to what is going on!

  • Error: Unable to start the bluetooth stack service

    HP Pavilion g7-2017us, Windows 7
    After starting up I get the error message: UNABLE TO START THE BLUETOOTH STACK SERVICE.
    First, I don't know what that means ... Second, I don't know how to remedy the problem.
    Can anyone help please? ... THANKS!

    Steps I would suggest are:
    1. Update Bluetooth Device Driver. Steps to update the device driver:
    i. Click on Start
    ii. Select Control Panel
    iii. Select System and maintenance
    iv. Click Device Manager (If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.)
    v. In the Device manager locate the Blue tooth device
    vi. Click the Driver tab, and then select Update driver
    If its still not fixed go to step 2
    2. Uninstall the Bluetooth device, restart the computer and install the latest drivers.

    If a power cycle of the TC works then the issue is simply Lion.. and there is as yet no fix.. and may never be..
    Apple do not seem to acknowledge the issue but plenty of people have it.. It doesn't happen with SL.. one very good reason to not bother with Lion.. Maybe ML will fix it.. without Apple having to ever admit an issue.
    In the meantime, if possible downgrade TC to 7.5.2 .. it has less issues than 7.6 or later.
    Reset the TC and change all names, TC and wireless names, to short, no spaces, no special characters.
    If it is the main router, set the dhcp lease to a short time.. 10min I recommend.
    The above will probably not fix the issue.. but it might go a bit longer before a reboot is needed.. going back to SL would fix it.

    I have a HP TouchSmart 610-1190f operating system Windows 7 64-bit
    I installed Norton 360 back in January and ran the registry program which corrupted the Bluetooth.
    BTTray Error:  Unable to start the Bluetooth Stack Service.  I know that a system restore will take care of it, but when it happened I did not know that and I also did not know that I can't go back in time like Windows XP.  I've tried reinstalling the driver with no luck.  Is my only option a System Recovery?

    I spent over 3 hours with HP chat and in typical fashion they could not solve the problem and requested I restore to original OS. I refused. HP Support needs to figure out a way to RESOLVE a customer problem without first jumping to "please restore your system".
    After a second call to HP, they sent me a replacement Wireless Card, and much to my surprise the Hardware Tech showed up as scheduled on a SATURDAY no less; even after being told by HP that no weekend calls are made.
    Anyway, the very nice service tech installed the new part and ...drum roll....wait for it...Voila!!!!
    NO FIX!!  As expected.  Why Did HP Software Support think the new card would fix the issue?? HP Software Support is virtually USELESS, actually, lets just say without any equivocation at all: HP SOFTWARE Support is USELESS; HARDWARE SUPPORT IS FANTASTIC...
    OK. I FIXED the problem myself:

    Available from:
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/ sp56715.exe   (eliminate the spaces...HP forum would not let me load this VALID site.
    I am NOT POSITIVE THAT DOWNLOAD IS FOR YOUR VERSION, BE CERTAIN TO CHECK SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS.
    Rebooted, Bluetooth service started up, NO BTTray Stack Error, discovered my device (old LG Cell Phone), connected, and I was able to access the MY Music, Pictures, Video files finally.
    Trust me, HP Software Support is a waste of time.

  • Update failure resulted in being unable to start up and unrecognizable iPhone when connected to PC

    Hi Community!
    I have an iPhone 4S iOS 7.0.1
    Today I finally took my time to update it to 7.0.4 since I have post-noted it for a long time.
    As I later on arrived to see how the process was doing, my phone is only showing the apple logo (No loading bar underneath).
    Something have happened.
    As it is now the phone is still showing the Apple logo, unable to start up.
    What I have tried;
    - Pressed the Start button and Home button simultainously, the results varied depending on being connected or not.
       1. Being connected to charger or computer: The device turns itself off, then restarts and get stuck into the same phase (that being, showing the apple logo)
       2. When being not connected to charger or computer: The device shuts down, not restarting itself at all.
    - Connected it to the computer, the result being: I am not notified that any recognizable or unrecognizable device have been connected. Therefor iTunes is not able to reboot the device.
    I have run out of ideas how to solve this by myself. Is there anything else I can try by myself before turning it into an Apple service?

    We have 2 Node SQL Cluster that was working fine. Then We migrated the Linux DNS to Windows DNS successfully.Now restarted the SQL Server after it when we try to start the SQL Server Agent service its says the below msg while machine name and cluster
    entries are in windows dns and resolving the IP to name and name to IP
    Error msg: The MSSQLSERVER service on Local Computer started and then stopped.  Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service." error message.
    But whenever we set the Linux DNS Server ip in SQL Servers then it successfully starts the service. Now i want to know why its happening and what are the requirements or DNS entries/SPN which we missing when we migrated the linux DNS to windows

    I was experiencing this issue or one just like it on one of our SQL clusters (SQL Server 2008 R2, two node).
    The fix for us was the database Security Login for: NT SERVICE\SQLAgent$<instancename>  was missing.  The actual service account assigned to the SQL Agent service was a valid domain account and we had the credentials correct in the service
    configuration, so no changes were needed there.
    Using SQL Server Management Studio we manually added this BUILT IN account ( NT SERVICE\SQLAgent$<instancename> ) to the instance, and then assigned it user role = sysadmin (to go along with the default role = public).
    Once this was done, we tried to restart the clustered SQL Agent service and it started and remained started.
    Hope this helps someone, we spent over a day pouring over the installation trying to find the cause.

    Please can anyone help.

    The class it cannot find almost looks like a folders class. Have you recently installed/disabled/enabled/unintsalled folders? Is this a new install? Can you disable folders through the admin server and try to restart it then? If the admin server isn't started either and you don't have access to component wizard where you could also disable folders you could use this trick:

  • Error in starting nidevldu and nipxirmu services (windows event viewer)

    A computer running Windows XP SP1 and a Visual basic (V6.0) application that I've developped had crashed several times. I've seen lots of errors in the Windows event viewer saying that the nidevldu and nipxirmu services were trying to start (exact french message : Le service nidevldu est en attente de démarrage et Le service nipxirmu est en attente de démarrage). These messages are real errors (not warning or informations).
    I use a 6034E PCI card, Visual basic V6.0 and NI-DAQ 7.4.
    The crashes I've seen may be linked with this problem.
    Is there a solution?

    I think that you are not going to be starting and stopping the devldu service in normal circumstances... due to crashes !
    The firsts steps you have to focus on is to optimize your program in order to avoid crashes, which is not a normal way of work I guess. Then you will be able to avoid these messages!
