Unable to start OSX after reload from restore disks

Hi,
I was having a bunch of crashing issues with my eMac. After trying to repair permisssions and the file system and applying the most recent updates, decided to restore.
After reformating the drive and installing OSx from the restore disks, the system hangs at some point of the initial install dialogues. Of the few times that i've tried its usually when trying to create the initial user account or pull the info from the .Mac profile. I've tried both creating it manually and having it query .Mac for the profile. I also tried both formating the drive manually and letting the install program do it.
Any thoughts on the source of the issue and next steps I might consider?

If iTunes fails to install or repair, it might be necessary to remove components left from a previous installation of iTunes and then reinstall.

Mass downloading after installation from a disk

I recently bought Premiere Elements 12 on a disk. Installation went smoothly and the program seems to run just fine. However, whenever I am running the program, a program that I have called BitMeter (a program that tracks Internet usage) show mass downloading. I tried restarting the program and even rebooting the computer but still, every time i run the program, it starts to download. It doesn't seem to be downloading anything, Premiere Elements doesn't say that it's downloading anything and the folder that it is installed into hasn't grown in size. I left it downloading for a while and after 2GB it was still going. Since I installed off of a disk i can't see any reason why it would need to download anything that large. Is there any reason why Premiere Elements 12 would be downloading anything after installation from a disk?

I do not know if you got to Content in the program. Much of it has to be downloaded before use. But, it would appear that it is on demand and not downloaded until you demand it. The Online Folder that contains the downloadable content runs several GBs.

I am not sure what you might be picking up with your BitMeter program.
It would be interesting to hear Adobe's comment on this. We are not Adobe. Just Premiere Elements users trying to help other Premiere Elements users with their Premiere Elements workflows.
What you might try, wild guessing, open the Elements Organizer 12, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Media Analysis and shut off all the AutoAnalyzer options and everything else under Media Analysis. Then observe what happens, if anything, to your program activity. Have you started using the Adobe Revel feature?

Unable to wipe ZFS partition table from the disk

I used an SD card as part of a zfs zpool made of three SD cards, without partition table. ZFS was managing the entire devices, not just partitions.
I subsequently retired this zpool but did not run “zpool destroy”. This worked for two of the cards, but it seems as if one of the SD cards just can’t shake the zfs_member marker, no matter what I do.
So far I tried multiple times, on several different machines (including two without ZOL installed, so zfs cache file is not an issue here):
1. dd the entire device with zeros. Four times.
2. zpool labelclear -f /dev/sdc
3. create new msdos partition table in gparted and fdisk
4.
$ mkfs.btrfs -f /dev/sdc
$ mount /dev/sdc /mnt/usb
mount: unknown filesystem type 'zfs_member'

5. Windows format and Partition Minitools windows equivalent of gparted.
As you can see, none of those methods wrote over the zfs data. It remains intact and invulnerable to anything I tried.
I am out of ideas. It looks like google is out of ideas, too.

Unable to start Workshop after upgrading JRockit from R5 to R28

I have Workshop 10.3 installed together with the bundled JRockit 1.6.0 R5. Recently, I upgraded the JRockit version to 1.6.0 R28 and have been unable to start Workshop.

Time machine started over after a complete restore, how to get to older?

Yesterday, photoshop and parrallels started crashing and I could not get them working, So I decided to do a complete system restore from install disk time machine from the day before when everything was working fine.
so it restored the system to its previous state. parrallels was still not working correctly so I restored the folder from a week or so ago. That didn't get it back either, so I thought of maybe reloading the application from an earlier time period might help.
But, time machine has started itself over. there is only backup data from this morning in the time machine internal backup drive. How do i get to my older backups? Do they just go away after a system restore?

No, you need to Ctrl-Click the Time Machine DOCK icon. Then choose "Browse Other Time Machine Disks...".
Here is a thought. When you did the restore, what Mac OS version did you restore. Your states say 10.5.5 but might your Mac have been restored to 10.5.4 or earlier with your restore?
I have found in my own testing, that since the 10.5.5 update, "Archive & Installs", "Erase & Installs", and "Restore System From Backup..." no longer trigger a new full backup. That is they continue to use the same backup set as before. (Note though, you will likely see a very large incremental backup, but not necessarily a new Full Backup set.) See my comments here:

If, however, you restored to a Mac OS version previous to 10.5.5, and then allowed Time Machine to perform a backup, then a new Full Backup would be preformed. Likely, you might be able to avoid this if you do the restore (prevent Time Machine from backing up), update to 10.5.5, then allow Time Machine to backup.

Unable to start xorg after latest nvidia update

I have NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 card. I did update to version 346.47 of nvidia driver and figured out that after reboot SDDM dont start. I disabled login manager and tried to start xorg server manually but without success. I see that there is segmentation fault in log but don't understand where it comes from exectly.

In addition, in order to disable sddm I downloaded latest Arch linux installation CD (2015.02.01) but I was unable to start PC with this version. Loading stuck after first 3 lines, after "triggering udevevents".
I had old version 2014.08 and it worked ok.

I just wanted to echo eugeneyche's comment. I ran the same steps mentioned by ElectricPrism but that didn't really fix them. I had to add nomodeset to my kernel parameters. I now want to know what's really going on. For the record, this was my backtrace:

Unable to start the weblogic server from windows environment

Hi All,
In our training system we have installed the SOA 11g and it worked fine till today afternoon. We have logged off the admin user in windows account and logged with our login credentials into windows after that we are unable to start the weblogic server.
- Earlier in the DOS command prompt we used to navigate to the path where the startWeblogic.cmd file located and then we execute the command, after that we will able to see the status message as RUNNING MODE in the bottom of the screen, and when ever we deploy an project using Jdeveloper in the weblogic server window some messages will appended based on the action.
- Only when we issue the command to shut down the weblogic server at that time only the command will be back to the path from where we started the server.
- After login to windows with our account, when we tried to start the weblogic server, it didn't throw any error instead of that after running few lines in the command window the prompt was back in to the (D:\Middleware\.....\Domains\bin)path from where we ran the command to start the server.
Please help us to resolve the issue asap.

Make sure that the user which you are using to start weblogic server should be part of Administrator group or the group to which your admin user belongs to.

CS4 unable to encode videos after upgrading from CS3

CS4 was unable to export and encode a video after upgrading from CS3. The error message indicated the the file could not be found. To fix this problem do the following. Create a short cut to adobe premiere pro (executable program) named "Premiere" Then place the short cut in the folder C:Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/dynamiclink After doing this my version worked fine.

The problem mainly occures when one then removes the CS3 version of Adobe Premiere. I have found a tech note on this problem at:

Unable to start Oracle Process Manager from the windows services for OBIEE

Hi,
I have OBIEE 11g installed on a 32-bit windows machine. Of the two windows services installed, I am unable to start the Oracle Process Manager. When I try to start it I get the following error:
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
At the back end, this service is calling the file opmn.exe which is placed at MIDDLEWAREHOME\Oracle_BI1\opmn\bin. On trying to execute this file the error we get is:
The procedure entry point longjmp could not be located in the dynamic link library orauts.dll
I have tried replacing the orauts.dll file, but to no avail.
Please let me know if you have any clue regarding what is to be done.

Hi Naman,
This error occurs for the following reasons,
*Path variable is not set properly
*Multiple Oracle homes exists in the same machine.
Follow the below steps and let me know if it works,
1. Select My Computer -> Right Click -> Properties
2. In the System Properties screen go to Advanced Tab
3. Click on Environment Variables
4. In the System Variables section select PATH variable & Click edit
5. Now you will find that it will contain invalid directories. Remove the incorrect entries. This may happen when you have multiple oracle homes in the same machine
6. Restart the service.

Problems installing operating system from restore disks

Greetings all,
I recently had to change out the motherboard on my TECRA A11-S3540 due to a spill on the keyboard. The laptop worked OK afterwards for a week or so. It started hanging on bootup and continually got worse until it would only boot up in safe mode and then hang up at mup.sys.
I assumed the replacement motherboard was bad so bought and installed yet another one. Afterwards, I had the same problems as with the 1st replacement motherboard. I then turned my attention to the hard drive.
I removed the hard drive from the Tecra and then attached it via a SATA-USB converter to another PC so that I could run chkdisk on it. There were not errors reported. I then reformatted and repartitioned the drive and reinstalled it.
Now when I try to install the operating system (windows 7) with my restore disks, it seems to load information into the RAM, but hangs forever with the windows logo on the screen and the text "starting windows".
The motherboard has the latest bios, and indentifies the hard drive correctly. I am at a total loss and really need help on this...

We've seen occasional problems restoring to a drive with advanced-format technology.
Check into that.

Is there anyway I can install programs from my installation or restore disks that I recieved with my machine without completely installing the entire system?
I want to restore the songs from the itunes sampler I recieved with my machine without wiping the drive and starting from scratch. If so, which one of the four disks should I use?

I don't know for sure, but if your original system discs are for Tiger 10.4.x, then the info in this KB Article Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4, may be helpful.
If the original system was an earlier version of OS X, then you may be able to extract the info, using Pacifist.

Recover from restore disk I made to ssd

Can I restore my system to a ssd drive from the restore disk I made when I purchased my computer or will it not work on anything but a hard disk drive? The drive is a intel 330 model that I was using and got some corruption or something and need to reinstall the system. The ssd is smaller than the disk drive which is why I am unsure if it will work. I have read that it will not clone data to a smaller drive. I think I previously used the windows 7 disk to do a clean install. If I do that again I will need to reinstall the drivers and I cant get on the hp support site to get all the updated drivers because it is not working and has been down for a while. I can not wait for a month or however long it is going to take hp to get their site problems fixed. I need to get this laptop up and running now. Any help would be greaatly appreciated.

Try a different browser, perhaps Chrome or Firefox.
I tried Chrome and had no issues with the download web page.

Open directory unable to start up after crash

Hi everyone,
Our OS X Server 10.8.4 crashed. After booting up again open directory doesn't want to start up so LDAP isn't running which means nobody can access their mails or do anything.
When trying to start the Open Directory service in the "Server" app it just says "Unable to load replica list"
Looking at the Open Directory Log after trying to switch it on this is what I get :

Does anyone have any advice on how to get it up and running again? I'd hate to lose all my users emails and do the server over. I have a time machine backup of a week ago as well which I guess is the second-to-last resort to restore the entire server from there?

I was able to restore the existing server with the automatic OD backup that Server.app creates. When my OD fails to start after a crash and db_recover commands don't work, it's always worked for me to restore the odmaster from a backup using the command:
sudo slapconfig -restoredb /private/var/backups/ServerBackup_OpenDirectoryMaster.sparseimage
I'm careful to keep an independent OD backup with Carbon Copy Cloner and this preflight script.
You can also grab an earlier version of the sparse image ServerBackup_OpenDirectoryMaster.sparseimage from a Time Machine backup. It's also possible to rsync the database files directory from a Time Machine backup.
