Unable to start SOA server through Node Manager

Hi All,
I am trying to install AIA 11.1.1.6.0 on the top of SOA Suite 11.1.1.6.0.
I was able to install successfully the weblogic server, rcu, soa and osb servers. Now, before installing the AIA, the document i am following it says, make sure to start the soa server through the node manager.
Now i start the admin server, then the node manager, to make sure i have checked that the node manager is up, i logged in to the weblogic console, went to Machines, and i can see that it is up and reachable.
Now using the WLST commands, first i connected to the node manager using command nmConnect(), then i am trying to start the soa server through node manager using the command start('soa_server1') command.
I am getting an error while trying to start soa server with nmStart() command, below is the error message...
"Error starting server soa_server1: weblogic.nodemanager.NMException: Exception while starting server 'soa_server1'"
I executed the dumpStack() command, and i am getting the output as "No stack trace available"
If i am able to start the soa server through the node manager, i can go ahead and install the AIA pack but this is not letting me go forward.
I also tried to start the soa server through the weblogic console., go to servers tab, select the soa_server1 and start, the soa server state is going to "FAILED_NOT_RESTARTABLE".
I followed some of the blogs like...
http://neeraj-soa-tips.blogspot.com/2010/06/starting-admin-and-managed-servers.html
http://www.javamonamour.org/2011/09/nmconnect-nmstart-nmkill.html
Experts, please give your advice.
Many Thanks,
N

Hi Narsing,
I'm assuming that you've followed the required Pre-config steps. If it is not working, I'd suggest to start the Admin and SOA server without node manager first. Then start your node manager and see if it is reachable from the WLS console. Then shut down your SOA server from command prompt and restart your SOA server from WLS console.
Verify the Listen Address of your Node Manager and start your node manager from command prompt by explicitly specifying the same address and port.
As WLS console internally uses node manager only to start your server, you would not need to use WLST scripts to do the same and only SOA server needs to be started using node manager.
Regards,
Neeraj Sehgal
Hi Neeraj,
I made sure that in the weblogic console, in the machines tab, local machine-->configuration--->Node Manager, I have given the correct Listen Address (Narsing-PC) and the listen port 5556.
I have made sure the property StartScriptEnabled= true.
I have started the admin server through startWebLogic.cmd command, now i start the node manager by going to the C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3\server\bin and running the command startNodeManager.cmd, then i go to the weblogic console--->servers--->control--->soa_server1--->start , it is going to      FAILED_NOT_RESTARTABLE status.
If i see the log messages in the nodemanager.log, this is the below message...
<Jun 28, 2012 11:25:09 PM> <INFO> <soa_domain> <soa_server1> <Server output log file is 'C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\soa_domain\servers\soa_server1\logs\soa_server1.out'>

  • Adding patch jar file while starting Managed Server through Node Manager

    Hi,
I am using Weblogic Express 10.0 on Linux env, Jrockit JVM.
I have a patch jar file from BEA, I added it to Weblogic start script, when I start the Managed server by using startManagedWeblogic.sh script, I can see that patch jar file is added to classpath when I grep for Java process.(ps -ef | grep -i java).
But when I start the Managed server through NodeManager and grep for java process, I dont see the patch jar file added to classpath of Managed server process which is started.
Can someone let me know if I have to add the patch jar file somewhere else along with Weblogic start script if starting Managed server through Node Manager?
    Weblogic Consultant

    Thanks for your response.
I found another way to do this.
Edit nodemanager.properties file and set StartScriptEnabled=true (By default it is false), and then restart the Node Manager process.
Enabling this setting to true will enable the NodeManager process to use startManagedWeblogic.sh script while starting the managed server, all the added jar files, memory settings will be taken from start script of Weblogic

  • Reg: Configuration of Managed Server through Node Manager

    Hello:
I have a question Regarding the System properties (-Dname= value
pairs) that are passed when starting the Managed Servers.
In the managed Server script I am passing below two name value pairs
    when starting the managed server
    -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBClass=com.inprise.vbroker.orb.ORB
    -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBSingletonClass=com.inprise.vbroker.orb.ORB
I am able to see these variables as <java System variabales > in the
    weblogic.log corresponding to managed server.
Next is starting managed server through the node manager. Now in this
case the Node managed recives the configuration
of the managed server from the Administration server and he then
    starts the managed server.
Now my question is though I have changed the startup scripts of
the Managed server to include the above two name value pairs. But I am
not able to see them in the congfiguration file in NodeManagerLogs
corresponding to the Managed Server. Also even in weblogic.log
    corresponding to the Managed Server.
Can any one clarify this. Also How to define the new system variables
for the Managed Server so that I can see them in the configuration
file that Adminitration Server sends to the Node Manager.
    Thanks,
    Vijay

    Thanks Anand.

    Vijay,
When you say managed server scripts do you mean startWeblogic.cmd ?
If you are using the node manger to start the managed servers then these
scripts are not executed. You should set the properties in the console.
    Goto YourDomain>Servers>YourManagedServer in the console.
    Select "Configuration" tab.
    Then select "Remote Start" tab.
In the "Remote Start" tab enter the properties in the "Arguments" field.

  • Problem starting Admin Server using Node Manager

I have configured the Node Manager to run as a windows service. I want it to start the Admin Server when it is started. This is not working. The Node Manager starts without problem but does not appear to even attempt to start the Admin Server. No error message is written to the nodemanager.log. I have configured the following properties as described in the documentation:
    StartScriptEnabled=true
    StartScriptName=startWebLogic.cmd
Starting the Admin Server using wlst works. As does starting and stopping a Managed server using the Admin console. This leads me to conclude that the Node Manager configuration is ok.
    WLS version is 9.2.
All suggestions as to what could be the issue here would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers!

Ok, I just wasted a whole day before I found the tricks.
First, you don't need to do that StartScriptEnabled stuff, unless you have important things to add there.
Ok, and now what I found:
    - You must make sure you have installed the NodeManager as a service
    - Next, make sure the admin server is assigned to the right machine. Since you can do the WLST trick, that should be fine. If not, tough luck, because the docs say you cannot re-assign an admin server.
    - In nodemanager.properties (...\weblogic92\common\nodemanager) make sure CrashRecoveryEnabled is set to true
    - In nodemanager.domains (same dir) make sure your domain is mentioned with its path
    - For each of the servers to be auto-started, make sure that a startup.properties (in <your-domain-dir> \servers\<server-name> \data\nodemanager) contains Arguments=-Xnohup (for JRockit, for Sun JDK its -Xrs)
Make sure they are started through the nodemanager, et voila, they'll be restarted after a reboot.
Why this works? At reboot, the OS ask all processes to die, nicely. Those that don't, get killed forcibly. Without the -Xnohup/rs, the WebLogic servers respond to the nice request, and the nodemanager immediately tries to restart them. Unfortunately, the OS refuses to do that, and the server process is marked as failed, and won't be restarted after reboot. With the option given, the servers ignore mr nice guy, and get killed after the nodemanager has disappeared.
What can go wrong? A lot. I was playing with the nodemanager username and password, and that took some time to clean up. I probably have to redo the entire setup just to make sure I have a repeatable experience now...
    Cheers,
    Bert

This is nothiung to do with me playing with the mds but happens many times when I override the existing composites.
If anyone had faced this issue and have a better solution, plase let me know.
One solution I was thinking was to remove that particualr composite from being loaded at startup of soa server but did not find any way how I could achive this.
    Thanks,
    Ajay

I'm guessing but I think this happens when the server dies mid way through a composite deployment. Then when the soa-infra application tries to start it can’t find expected files for the half deployed composite and falls over.
In our case the problem was with composite InvoiceTransformer_rev1.0. We are able to get the soa infra back up by:
    Stopping the soa server
    Replacing the adf-config.xml file in:
    <MW_HOME>/user_projects/domains/<DOMAIN_NAME>/deployed-composites/InvoiceTransformer_rev1.0/sca_InvoiceTransformer_rev1.0/soa_<SOME GUID>/SCA-INF/classes/META-INF
    Starting the soa server
Starting the soa-infra application in the console.
The soa-infra application started but most of the composites were down and needed to be redeployed.

  • How to start coherence server using node manager of remote web-logic server

We want to manage our coherence servers using web-logic. Our requirement is as such we want to keep single web-logic Admin Server and add all other node-manager to the same web-logic Admin Server.
Now when we create machine on node 1 (on which Admin Server is running) and add node manager of other server it is not responding and shows status as inactive.
    Status: Inactive
Problem description: weblogic.nodemanager.NMException Exception encountered while communicating with this node manager

Looking at the log files it gives below info

Even after I have added the domain name in above directory. It returns with the same error.
Please let me know if anyone has faced the same issue while running coherence server on remote system using weblogic admin console on one machine and node manager on other machine.

    Thank You Rene.
This issue is resolved, but now I am facing issue while starting the coherence server on the remote node using node manager.
In the weblogic > coherence_server logs I am getting

  • Starting manged server without node manager

    Hi All
I know that we can start managed servers from admin console but for that we have to have node manager on that machine running.
But I want to know,if I dont want to use node manager, can i start some how managed servers from admin console. That is if my node manager is not running, can i start the managed servers using admin console.
Please let me know if it is possible or not.
    Thanks in advance.
    DJ

Without the node manager running, you cannot start the managed servers from the admin console.
There are other options you can use to start the managed servers though, which i guess you might be aware of.
Just in case you don't, it's nicely documented by Atul @ http://onlineappsdba.com/index.php/2008/08/03/oracle-weblogic-server-startupshutdown/
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Unable to start soa server with anonymous attempt to JNDI resource error

I have deleted the outbound connection as well as the new Foreign server but still when restarting I am getting the same error.
    How can I fix this?
This is blocking me from doing my development work.
    Thanks,
    Rajesh

Can you check the config.xml of the domain and see if you are still having any references to the JNDI name you had used? If yes try removing the references manually and save the file and then restart the server. PLEASE TAKE A BACKUP OF THE config file before doing so.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

but I'm using Java based node manager
All this is coming up when I enable StartScriptEnabled to true in nodemanager.properties.
What could be reason for failure?

The console will start a managed server on the local system (i.e. the system

  • Starting Manage Server using node manager

    Hi,
    Hi,
    I am using Weblogic server 11g and I have deployed Admin server in one of my unix machine(machine1) and i able to start my Admin server using node manager, and when i try to start my Managed server in another machine(machine2) using the node manager(that machine node manager) its throwing error;
Note: am able to start Managed server using Adminurl and able to connect to Managed server node manager successfully,
but not able to start Managed server using node manager
    its giving exception as below;
    error:- wls:/nm/webdomain> nmStart('ms1')
    Starting server ms1 ...
Error Starting server ms1: weblogic.nodemanager.NMException: Exception while starting server 'ms1'
plz help me out in this
    Thanks in advance

An example to start managed servers on different machine is provided here: http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=6637
"By default, WebLogic is installed and configured with the DemoIdentity.jks keystore. This certificate and key are created by utils.CertGen with the default options of containing only the host name in the common name field (cn), and not the fully-qualified DNS name. As a result, attempts to establish SSL connections may fail in some situations due to a host name verification exception. When using the demo certificates in a multi-server domain, managed server instances will fail to boot if they cannot establish an SSL connection with the Admin Server and the a BAD_CERTIFICATE error is generated. This error occurs because the host name verifier, which is enabled by default in all WebLogic domains and which is used during the SSL handshake, compares the value of the cn field in the certificate with the fully-qualified DNS name of the SSL server that accepts the SSL connection. If these names do not match, the SSL connection is dropped."
