Unable to stop applications and windows reopening after reboot Yosemite

I am wondering if my system became corrupted about a week ago after working well since upgrading to Yosemite when it was first released. When I reboot my system a number of applications open windows including Mail, iTunes, Excel, Adobe Reader, Calendar, Chrome, and VMWare. A window pops up asking for my iCloud password and it usually requires more than one attempt to enter the password before this disappears.
I have searched online and tried all the usual remedies. I have selected "Close windows when quitting an app" under "Settings, General". I have ensured that these items do not appear under "Login items" in "Settings, Users & Groups". I have tried selecting and unselecting "Reopen windows when logging back in" on the "Restart badge" that appears when requesting restart.
I also tried reinstalling Yosemite and later tried a "clean install" of Yosemite. In the latter case, I did restore my applications from Time Machine backup so it is not really a "fresh" system.
Does anyone have any idea how to approach this problem short of doing a clean install of Yosemite and then reinstalling all my applications?

  • Audigy LS stops random and functions properly after reboot

:Audigy LS stops random and functions properly after rebootM I am on a P5P800 motherboard with a SB Audigy LS in PCI2, running Windows 7 Beta and using version 5.2..200 of the driver.
I had the same problem on Windows Vista (both before and afer SP):
? at irregular intervals the sound card stops working. Mediamonkey does not detect the SB speakers anymore and none of the other programs can get audio to play.
All it takes is a system-reboot.
I know there is a later version of the driver, at least drivermax tells me there is a newer version. Trying to install this newer version results in the blue screen.
Any ideas where to look for the solution: I am sure that the chipset drivers are fine and I also tried switching the sound-card in from PCI3 to PCI2.
Help is wellcome: it is annoying most to have no sound randomly !

    Restart the computer.

  • Help! Keyboard stops responding and then works after reboot

My computer will start running really slowly and then the keyboard stops working, then after 30 seconds or so I lose the ability to click but the mouse still moves. Command-option-esc for force quit still works some of the time though but refreshing everything from there doesn't help. After I reboot everything goes back to normal. This has happened every other day or so for about a week. Help me please!

Turning off the Protected Mode at Startup setting fixed the problem for me. Switched off all protected mode settings in Preferences exited Adobe Reader XI then restarted. Now I can successfully open files without the program crashing. I run the same versions of Adobe Reader and Norton Internet Security on Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems and the problem only occurred on Windows 7.

  • Downloaded 10.5 and when I put in an audio book CD in to import as soon as I started to type in the author iTunes stopped working and windows closed iTunes.  Can anyone help me out here?  I have to submit book information.

Downloaded 10.5 iTunes and when I put in an audio book to import into iTunes as soon as I begin typing book info notice appears that iTunes has stopped working and windows 7 closes iTunes.  Anyone else have this problem?  I hate that you have no way to contact these people and report problems.  I tried the old feedback but that didn't get anywhere.  Please, I've got several audio books to load and I'm not getting anywhere.  Thanks

You really need to put your codes between the
    [\code] tags
    see http://forum.java.sun.com/features.jsp#Formatting
for more infoCode tags might make it look a little better, but there's still too darn much code. We're volunteers, after all. It'd be a lot of work to review all of this stuff. Can you demonstrate your problem with something smaller? Learn out how to do a combo box with just a page or two and then appy that to your big problem. That's how I'd do it. - MOD

Firefox no longer connects to internet on my mac, and windows machines, after v18. I've tried several solutions from Mozilla support and nothing works. Firefox can't even connect to Mozilla for updates. Firefox just sits on the default search page and attempts to connect to websites by typing URLs, or by clicking on the links on the default search page don't work.

    You could try the following:
    * Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version)
    * Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs, then add it back. For detailed instructions, see Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.

  • Everytime I open itunes I get a message saying itunes has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution

Everytime I open itunes I get a message saying itunes has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution

I have the same issue. An iTunes help page (iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues - Apple Support) suggested I hold down shift and control when clicking to open iTunes, which opens iTunes fine for me. That would mean the problem is in the third party plug-ins that work with iTunes. However, the help pages did not say what to do with the plug-ins once I knew that was the issue. The pages said to find the plug-ins and move them to the Desktop, which I did. That's where the help pages stopped, which is ridiculous. Does anyone know what to do from there?

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

  • File sharing between Mac Mini and iMac "breaks" after reboot of either device, and won't restore.  Why?  Running Maverick 10.9.1 on both.  File sharing is setup on both.  Help.

I'm a new user - recent convert from longtime Windows to Apple.  Thought having desktops and computing aligned with phones and tablets would help.  Not so far.
I have a MacMini running Mavericks 10.9.1, and an iMac running Mavericks 10.9.1.  File Sharing is set up on both.  If either device is rebooted for any reason, file sharing from the Mac Mini to the iMac "breaks" and will not easily restart.  Various things eventually brings the connection back - usually having to do with checking and unchecking File Sharing, the AFP button, and/or the SMB button on the iMac - but never the same procedure twice in a row.  File Sharing from the iMac to the Mac Mini is never disrupted - always comes back up without a problem.  Screen Sharing also works between both without fail, and comes up after reboot of either.  No problem there.  Only difficulty is from Mac Mini to the iMac.
    Why?  Any ideas?

Should also clarify - usually takes multiple hours of checking/unchecking file sharing settings in order to restore the share between Mac Mini and iMac.  NEVER happens automatically.
This is disruptive because I've got the Mac Mini pointing to several file locations on the iMac for various things - photos, music, etc. - and they all hang up unless the share is restored.  Real bummer.

  • Frozen and still frozen after reboot

Macbook Airs frozen and still frozen after reboot?

    Greetings Ging ging,
It seems your MacBook Air is frozen and is not responding after starting up. You may want to consider performing a PRAM reset, which may help you get your device back up and running:
OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM
If your Mac doesn’t seem to be remembering your speaker volume, display resolution, or the disk it should be using during startup, you may need to reset your computer’s PRAM.
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
Important:   To print these instructions, click the Share button  in the Help window, then choose Print.
Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting your computer’s PRAM, you may need to update your speaker volume, display resolution, and startup disk preferences. For more information about PRAM, see the Apple Support article About NVRAM and PRAM.

  • Unable to open Applications and Utilities

I run Snow Leopard and have recently been unable to open most Apple applications, some third party Applications, and most Apple utilities. The problem seemed to be after downloading an update to my OSX 10.6.2 to 10.6.6. I telephoned Apple Support and was advised that I should download 10.6.6 combo. My internet broadband connection is very slow, providing only less than 0.5GB and during the 6hr download of 10.6.6 combo, I noticed that the connection had been lost. I recommenced it and afterwards installed it. However this did not resolve the problem.
Should I now download 10.6.6 combo and install it once more, or is my problem elsewhere. Please keep any answers simple!!

When I double click on an application either nothing happens or I get a dialogue box displayed with the message "You can't use this version of application 'its name' with this version of Mac OS X." The version I have of the application is then shown beneath this text. Or when I attempt to open a utility such as 'Grab', I have a dialogue box displayed in which is stated 'Grab cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Grab works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.'
As I stated I believe that I have installed the latest update of the OS X, but I do not see how I can install the latest version of the application because I thought that they were in the OS X in the first place.
In relation to the 3rd party applications which I cannot open I presume I need to check on the 3rd party's web site to see whether there are updates to their software?

  • Itunes launches fine however I cannot connect to the Itunes store.  It says that Itunes has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution.

Everything seems fine until I try to access the ITunes store.  Then I get a message that ITunes has stopped working and that Windows is looking for a solution.  Then it tells me that no solution has been found and closes down Itunes.
I can still sync music / podcasts to my ipod and iphone.  I am still getting podcast downloads automatically for the ones I have subscribed to.
This is the first time this issue with not being able to access the Itune stores has happened to me.  I was just there 2 nights ago.

  • 30" Monitor Display... Tiny View of Applications and Windows

    Hello!
My 30" was is set at 2560 x 1600 and was in the wrong port... the images were blurry. I switched over to the proper port and everything is very crisp.
However, I am working on a 30" screen and all of my programs and windows are very small in comparison to the screen. Relative to the screen size, my programs, email, etc. are tiny.
    Would anyone have any suggestions?

    For example,

this is what my illustrator program and window look like when i open the program up AND... this is after applying the Apple + 0 command for a full-screen window.
