Unable to stream movies after 4.2.1 update

Hi,
I updated my Apple TV to 4.2.1 tonight and I've been unable to stream movies from my iMac or iPad to the ATV since then. I can stream music and TV shows but no luck streaming movies to it.
I've also tried streaming from my iPad to the ATV and this isnt working either.
The iMac and iPad see recognize the ATV, the ATV displays one still picture and sits in a buffering pattern.
I tried restoring the ATV, rebooting my iMac, rebooted the TC and APE but no luck.
Have you run across this? Any suggestions? (besides not updating right away!)

I spoke (wrote) too soon. Though the calendar is showing all the events, an event I just added on the iphone has not shown up on other devices. I created an event on my Ipad too, which also didn't show up on other devices.
I logged in to Mobile Me, which reports all services running OK, but something seems to be wrong

Has anyone had a decrease in streaming speed after the last mac security update package? I used to be able to watch video's direct from a site now i have to wait for a good 15-20 mins so i get a large buffer zone and then i can sometimes watch without interruption.

Unable to stream movies from mac

This problem is making my AppleTV almost unusable.
Never had a problem playing movies stored on my iTunes on my MacBook Pro on the AppleTV until the last update. Now when I attempt to select a movie, it takes upwards of 10 minutes for the movie to start playing.
I've done all the basic troubleshooting I've seen online. I have an Airport Extreme on the network running 802.11n, the signal strength on the AppleTV is excellent, the MacBook Pro has excellent signal strength (all wireless), I've checked for updates, verified network settings. Not sure what else to do. I used to have no problems at all watching movies on the AppleTV, now it's painful.
I have crappy Satellite Internet, but have had that for years, although I can stream a video from youtube over my Satellite Internet better than watching a video stored on my Mac.

I'm having a similar problem with my rented movies. I rented a movie from my iMac, and am trying to view it on my Apple TV, and I'm getting the error message that the content could not be loaded. I get the flower petal circle indicator, then the screen switches to what looks like the movie starting (the movie time indicator is now at the bottom of the screen), and then I get the error message.

Apple tv 3 after OS 5.1 update stalls streaming movies after one movie

I updated our Apple tv 3 to os 5.1 (on 29 Sep 2012). The update worked without a hitch, except that after playing a single movie using home sharing the apple tv now stalls on the pin wheel loading the second movie. The only thing that seems to fix this is restarting the computer serving the movies. Restarting itunes doesn't work, neither does restarting the apple tv. This problem didn't occur prior to updating the apple tv.
Our machine serving the apple tv is a little old (ibook g4 with itunes 10.6.3) but hasn't changed between updates. The only thing that changed between the update is the apple tv software.
Has anyone come across this problem? Is there a way to go back to version 5.0.2? This is causing some frustration.

I tried two fixes which worked for this problem
1) do away with wifi completely. This worked really well, as I was originally using an ibook g4 which wasn't much use to me for much else. Connected everything up and never had a problem with ATV3 running 5.1.1
2) downgrade to 5.0.2. Following the instructions here (http://forum.firecore.com/topic/8989). make sure you get the correct restore file for an ATV3 if you're using it. This link has a copy to both restore files (http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/archive/t-1486275.html).
Neither are elegant solutions, but the downgrade seems to be working best - considering I can now operate it all with wifi again.

IMovies 06 - unable to import movies after several successful imports

I am importing Hi8 video from a Canon ES4000 using iMovies 06. I have had no problems until the last two days. iMovies seems to be recognizing the camera but will not import when I hit the import button. I get the acknowledgment from iMovies that "Camera is Connected" and "Camera Playing".
I am using a DAC-200 Data Video converter which is connected via firewire cable. Like I mentioned earlier I have had no problems. (I have successfully downloaded and burned 9 DVDs).
I have restarted computer, opened a new iMovies project, etc with no results.
The only thing I can think I have done recently is allowed a software update to be performed. Here is a list of my download log:
2008-07-26 18:42:40 -0500: Installed "Safari" (3.1.2)
2008-07-26 18:43:38 -0500: Installed "iTunes" (7.7)
2008-07-26 18:47:26 -0500: Installed "Security Update 2008-004 (Intel)" (1.0)

I personally wouldn't think any of the above updates would cause a problem.
Would it be worth uninstalling the updates???
I would appreciate any help I can get....Frustrated to no end!

Shortly after posting this on the forum I unplugged and restarted everything one more time and now importing works. Still not sure what the problem was. Hopefully this will get me to the end of my project.

Unable to install anything after 10.6.2 Update

Hi, I'm unable to install any program (including the 10.6.2 Update Combo pack) after the 10.6.2 update.
When any of the programs I've attempted to install (SyncMate, Flip4Mac, the Update Combo) get to the "install" section of the Installer, it appears that the installer is unable to open or access the authentication dialog.
I have:
-ensured that the user has Administrator access (although I can no longer turn that on or off from within the user itself)
-restarted getting rid of the PRAM and VRAM
-booted from the Snow Leopard install disk, changed the passwords of both the root and the main user
-repaired all the disk permissions (no warnings) and restarted several times
-verified the disk (no problems, no need for repair)
Does anyone have any advice, other than simply reinstalling the operating system from the Snow Leopard disk?
Help! I'd really like to install these programs.

sorry, lost track of this thread for a bit.
you need to figure out which preference files in the main account are causing the problem. the one that i suspected is not it. I don't know which one it is, sorry.
maybe somebody else does.
one thing you can always try is the nuclear approach. move the whole folder /users/username/library/preferences to the desktop and log out/in. that folder will be recreated and all the files inside will be recreated with default values when system needs them. see if that fixes the issue. if it does you can start moving the files you need from the preferences folder on the desktop back to the one in the library. you'd need to log out/in for some of them. this is pretty time consuming so I would first see if someone else has another idea.
in the worst case scenario you can always migrate to a new user account.

Unable to backup iphone after itunes 10.7 update in windows 7

After the update to iTunes 10.7 on Windows 7 64 bit today, I can't get my iPhone to back up to my computer. I get a a message about being unable to establish a session with the phone. This happens with my iPad as well. Is this a known issue, or an update issue on my system?

Okay so, i had the same problem too. i reinstalled my windows and i was unable to get my itunes to backup my iphone. Luckily, before reinstalling the windows, i had saved the backup files of my iphone.
1.You can do this by going to: C drive/users/user/appdata/roaming/applecomputer/mobilesync/backup.
2.Note: windows computer do not show hidden files by default and appdata files are hidden.
to see the hidden files, visit http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Show-hidden-files
3. so next time you format and reinstall the windows, make sure you have backed up the iphone backup files.
4.so now after installing windows again and after reinstalling all the essential softwares, reinstall itunes and connect your iphone to itunes and authorise the computer.
5. go back to the iphone backup file storage location which is:
C drive/users/user/appdata/roaming/applecomputer/mobilesync/backup.
6. once you are there you will see that there are no back ups in that location which is quite obvious. now paste the backup files of your iphone ( The backup which you made before installing the windows). as soon as you do this, you will see that the tab whi read: Restore form a backup glows up and is Clickable.
7.so now, you have the backup and restore fully functional. for a safer side, make a new backup and transfer all the purchases to your new itunes.

Unable to launch X11 after 10.5.5 update

I had the same issue after installed 10.5.5. Took me ages to work out what was going on since my problem originated with ssh connections failing to connect. Turned out that ssh was hanging while waiting for X11 to start. X11 wasn't starting automatically or manually but was showing the respawn messages in the console.
Based on earlier comments in this thread I narrowed down the problem to an exec statement in my original .profile.
Here is the .profile that I've been using on OS X 10.2 -> 10.5.4:

By wrapping my old .profile in a test to only execute the old .profile statements in interactive shells X11 will start up correctly and I keep my old .profile settings for terminal shells.

No image on Pixlet .mov after Quicktime 7.5 update

Hi, here we are with another QT 7.5 problem.
I have recently updated to QuickTime 7.5 and all my movies exported from iMovie using the Apple Pixlet Video format are not playing correctly.
I can listen to them, the audio is playing correctly, but the only thing that renders is a white screen.
I use this movies to create a DVD throught iDVD and now the movies are not appearing as possible media to be included in a iDVD project. I guess this could be because, as far as the .mov can not be displayed, iDVD can not add them into a project.

Uhm... extrange thing.
I also have the Pro version. I also updated iMovie and iDVD. I exported new videos with the same settings and always a white screen. It also happens with videos exported previous to the update.
I did more testing:
1- I uploaded a video to a web server.
2- I tried to view the .mov using a browser.
Safari - plays white
Firefox - plays the video with altered (bad) colors.

If you can see the video I think the problem is not coding time but play time. And I will try to guess why is happening this.

Unable to open project after 6.0.2 update

Hi:
I updated FCP Studio2 to the latest software (6.0.2) on Wednesday. I edited and worked without any issues on Thurday & Friday.
Today, when I opened the same project I get the following message: "File's format is too new for this version of the application". There's an OK button and nothing more. FCP stays open and I can create new projects, sequences, etc. The problem seems to be with my current project. BTW, when I open this project, FCP starts to read all the related files and at 48% is when we get the message.
Any clues???

I was able to figure out the problem. I have 2 FCP icons, one on the desktop and another in the dock.
When I open FCP using the desktop icon, it runs ver. 6.0.1 and when I click the icon in the dock, it runs ver. 6.0.2 and my project opens fine.
Being fairly new to Macs, I did not know you can have 2 versions of the same program. In Windows, when you update a program, it updates the icons no matter where they are.

Unable to add printer after 10.4.8 update

Hello!
I updated to 10.4.8 (combo update) on a G5 Quad and lost my printer settings. When I tried to add the printer again, the only thing I get is an error message: "server-error-service-unavailable".
I'm using a HP Laserjet 2200 with a D-Link Ethernet switch, but also tried pluging the printer first using direct Ethernet then via USB (restarting each time). I always get the same error message, even when trying adding it with generic printer setting.
Everything worked just fine before the update. I tried repairing permissions, re-runned the update, but nothing changed.
May the printer manager be corrupted? Does anyone have the same problem? Any solution?

I have seen and had a very similar problem with Lexmark E240 and 10.4.8, which is USB-only, not a network printer.
I ended up securing system preferences, blocking outbound sharing services - because I was seeing a large number of the Sharing Services and firewall rules open and allowed, and which I never started or allowed.
I have been basically "hitting my head against the wall" with Lexmark support, trying to see if they know anything, sending screen shots showing the error. (They basically said, use Guttenprint + CUPS.)
I even went back to the original OS I had archived (Mac Pro, 10.4.7 build) and was able. And it works now. But I added rules to my router to prevent both inbound AND outbound Windows Sharing, ARD, Remote Apple Events, etc. (all of these and more services were getting enabled, even ftp and remote login... so I logged everything and thought I had "an intruder" of sorts, or a worm).
To me, it was acting like the printer driver was going out and looking to see if there was a more current driver available... sort of like how Vista will look for any generic or "unsigned" driver.
I will say that I spent a lot of time, some of it *spinning wheels* and have been reluctant to try again with the router out of the picture. At one point I thought I was okay, but saw "Fax & Print" control panel automatically enable the "share this printer" at one point, so I now use the Security control panel to require password authorization for any changes.

Unable to resolve DNS after 10.9.5 update

i have a Mac Mini 2.26 Core 2 Duo that I updated today to 10.9.5. It also updated Xcode to version 6.0.1. I have lost the ability to resolve DNS. I have flushed the DNS cache via TerMinas several times but to no avail.
These are the commands I used:
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
sudo dscacheutil -fluschcache
Via the Network utility and Terminal I can ping any IP address just fine. All my other devices on the network are resolving DNS as normal (iPhones, iPads, other Macs running 10.9.5) It is just this computer that is having the problem.
I tried disabling the network card and connecting via wireless, with no change.
That is about the limit of my technical knowledge. Any suggestions from anyone is greatly appreciated.

Apple TV won't stream movies from itunes since installing latest update

I recently updated my Apple TV and have since been unable to stream movies from my iTunes library. Itunes and all other software is up to date. I even downloaded Mountain Lion OS just in case. Netflix and movie trailers work fine. Streaming from my computer seems to be the only problem.

I have since purchased a new apple tv which had worked fine until the update was offered. I downloaded the update and the problem happens again on a brand new machine.
Since then I have spent 2 hrs on the phone with apple without results. Followed by an hour on the phone with Linksys checking network issues. I was just wondering if this is a problem for anyone else? It's not a single device so it has to be a problem with the update intalled.
Linksys believes the update corrupted the apple tv's firmware. Has anyone else been experiencing problems?

PS - have found other posts indicating that clips smaller than 2s or sometimes 5s, or "short files" can cause this. Modern style editing often uses short takes ! Good grief I cannot believe Apple. Well I deleted a half a dozen short sections and can export, but now of course the video is a ruined piiece of junk and I need to re-do the whole thing, the sound etc. which is basically taking as much time as the original. And each time I re-do it I risk again this lovely error -50 and again trying to figure out what thing bugs it via trial and error instead of a REASONABLE ERROR MESSAGE POINTING TO THE CLIP IT CAN'T PROCESS. What a mess. I HATE this iMovie application - full of BUGS BUGS BUGS which Apple will not fix obviously, since I had this product for a few years and see just hundreds of hits on Google about this error with disappointed users. Such junk I cannot believe I paid money for it and Apple does not support it with fixes !!!
If anyone knows of a GOOD reasonably priced video editing program NOT from APPLE I am still looking for suggestions. I want to do more video in future, but obviously NOT with iMovie !!!

Streaming movies cut out after 10 minutes

Hi,
I'm finding that when I try and stream a movie from my iTunes (iMac 21.5") to my ATV2 (using latest Airport Express connected to a Virgin Media Modem), the movie freezes after around 10 minutes. When I check the wireless network, the whole thing has gone down. I have to switch off Airport and then turn it back on again. This can happen 8 times during a 2 hour movie.
I have tried resetting and restoring the Apple TV.
I am also finding that while I am trying to watch a streamed movie, the rest of the wifi network cannot be used for internet access.
I have tried changing the channel of the WiFi in case I was picking up interference from neighbours but this made no difference.
If anyone has any ideas I'd really appreciate it as the ATV is currently just a black box that sits under my TV gathering dust.

Here in New Zealand, our home ISP has an option for a signal booster for the home. I manage to get full signal and can teether unlimited at 550kbs/s out of my iPhone, as oppose to our faster home Internet but at a 40gb/month cap... Hence why I'm tempted to use the most out of my iPhone and half a megabyte speeds is probably the cause of overheating.
