Unable to successfully install iTunes and play music

I have been using iTunes in Windows for over a year and I regularly update the program, when the option pops up. I have never had a problem until now and am completely unhappy. In February (I know this was so long ago, but I've tried everything and can't remedy the problem, so here I am) I downloaded version 6.02, I think it was and my music wouldn't play. So I reldownloaded it and still nothing. I searched these discussions and followed the instructions to uninstall everything. I'm not worried about the music I have everything backed up. So I tried to uninstall everything and I did, but I was unable to delete QuickTime and its components. This was in April. I was really busy and stopped dealing with it, but I was viewing some webpages which required QuickTime and even though it is still on my computer, I was unable to open the pages. I think my iTunes problem is with QuickTime but I don't know, if someone would please help I would appreciate it, because I have been unable to update my ipod, buy new music, and play music on my computer for way too long now. Please help, I would appreciate it, and if I can offer any extra information which would help I will, thanks!

glad to be able to point you in Lorraine's direction, AmySue!
with the syncing thing: if you're planning to use unchecking to manage music syncing to your ipod, first plug in the ipod, and wait until it shows up in the itunes sourcelist. then go "edit > preferences", and click on the "ipod" tab. make sure that "only update checked songs" is checked in there, and click "OK".
that technique can get a bit unweildy for keeping more than a few songs off the ipod, though. another thing you might want to consider is creating a playlist containing all the songs you want on the ipod ("ipod syncing"?), and then heading back into the ipod preferences tab, selecting "Automatically update selected playlists only", and then selecting the "ipod syncing" playlist in the list beneath that, and then clicking OK.

  • Install iTunes and keep music?

When I first got my iPod, I had to install iTunes to another computer, because my computer was extremely old and pratically useless at the time. Later, I got a new computer, so I reinstalled iTunes to my new one. When it was installed and I hooked up my iPod, however, all the music was erased!
I have just recently gotten a new laptop, and I am in the process of installing everything. My question is, how do I install iTunes to my new laptop without erasing all my music?

Install iTunes, and then follow these instructions; they will not work with an iPod shuffle.

  • After trying to install last update my itunes now doesn't work- have tried reinstalling and it gets struck saying mobile device not responding. Itunes says unable to successfully install itunes.

After a message on my computer to install an update a few days ago- I now can't open Itunes and have a message saying a module isn't working and I need to re install Itunes. However when I try to reinstall Itunes I keep getting an error message saying mobile device not working and then a message saying unable to install itunes.  Any clues- Is apple stuffing up agian or is my computer mis behaving?

Try a more recent version of my advice. The "for older video cards version" may work when the default version doesn't.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • I am unable to successfully install itunes 10.5. I can download it, but when I go to install the program it says that a program could not be run and it won't give the name of the program. I have the vista 64-bit system.

I cannot install iTunes 10.5. I can download it, but when I go to install it says that a program cannot be run and it won't give the name of the program. I have the Windows Vista 64-bit system.

That would be my first guess.  You might be trying to install the 32 bit version of the program.
Update the thread with more info on your apple software etc if its a 64 bit install you're trying to perform.

  • Using iTunes to play music on two Airport Expresses simultaneously

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to set up a system where iTunes 7.0 on my Windows 2000 PC can play simultaneously to two Airport Expresses.
I've set up the first AE (call it AE1) by connecting it to my LAN with an Ethernet cable; it appears in the Base Station Chooser and I can find it and set it up. I set it up to 'Create a wireless network' and check both boxes in the iTunes tab, and give it an iTunes speaker name. At this point, everything's happy: I can see AE1 in iTunes, and play music to the speakers, and my Nintendo Wii can even get to the internet using AE1. I've left AE1 plugged in to the network.
Now the problem: I bought another Airport Express, call it AE2, and I want the new one to hook up to the existing network and let me play iTunes through the new one, as well. I connected AE2 to my LAN with ethernet and it showed up in the Base Station Chooser; I set it up to 'Join an Existing Wireless Network' and gave it the exact same Network Name: "Mike Home Network". I checked both checkboxes in the iTunes tab and gave the speakers a name. I then unhooked the ethernet, plugged in the speakers to AE2, and unplugged and replugged AE2 to restart it. The light flashes green, goes to yellow for a while, then goes solid green. (So I assume it found a network to hook up to.) iTunes shows the Multiple Speakers button, and I can pick AE1, but no sign of AE2.
I restart iTunes, but it still can't find AE2. Some support suggests using the wizard, but I'm on 2000 so it's not supported.
    So my questions:
    * Can I verify somehow that AE2 hooked up to the network that AE1 created? Ping it or telnet to it or something? (I can ping AE1 just fine.)
    * Is 'Join an Existing Network' the right way to do this?
(I also tried WDS with no success, but I may have done it wrong.)
    * AE1 is distributing IP addresses; AE2 is not. Is this correct?
Access Control is turned off on both AE's.
I have Wireless Security set to 'Off' on both.
(I'll re-enable it once I get these two going.)
    They're about 20 feet apart.
Wireless channel is 'Automatic' on both. (Also tried it with both on channel 8)
Firmware on both AE's is 6.3
    Itunes is version 7
Any suggestions? Anything at all, I'm absolutely stumped and this seems like it should be really straightforward....
      Windows 2000

Figured it out! thanks everyone for the help.
In the end, I fixed it by turning off 'Distribute IP Addresses' on AE1.
The problem was, if you want iTunes to find the wireless Airport Express, iTunes must be able to see the wireless AE's IP address. When AE1 was distributing IP addresses, it was performing NAT, which meant that iTunes on my PC could not distinguish between AE1 and AE2 behind it.
This is not clear in any of the documentation; I can't be the first person to be confused by this.

  • I was downloading music to my iTunes account and playing music from my I tunes library when all of the sudden it stopped playing and the control panel won't let me restart the music.....why

I was downloading music cd from my PC to my I tunes library and playing music on the I tunes player at the same time when all of the sudden my music stop playing and I can't get the I tunes player to restart playing music from my library again. The I tunes equalizer / player box with timer shows the song ready to play but the controls won't restart the song.......why not, and how to I get it to restart playing my library?

    - You need to restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod and start anew.  Is the restore button visable in iTunes?  If it is they restore the iPod.
    - If it is not visible try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - If the restore button is still not visable, try placing the iPod in recovry mode.  See:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • I recently bought a new laptop, installed iTunes and imported my library during a sync with my iPhone. Now I've noticed that any tracks that were ripped into my library from a CD won't play on my iPhone. They're visible but with a red circle next to them.

    Hi, BartleyBauer.
If the media that you are attempting to sync plays in iTunes, try removing the preference to sync music as this remove the media from the device.  Once this is done, try syncing the media again.

    Hello ryane84
The easiest and most efficient way to copy your music is to follow the steps under the External drive section. Make sure that you have organized the iTunes library first before you copy it over. Then put the copied iTunes folder in the same Music folder on your computer.

  • I bought a new laptop and used Windows Easy Transfer cable and moved all files from one computer to another. I installed iTunes and found my iTunes music Library.  However, when I plug in my iPod it says it is already synced with another iTunes Library.

I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over.  Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over?  I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another.  Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

    Not Charge
    - See:

iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    - Try another cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

I would contact Apple under your warranty.  I doubt you received a new iPod since Apple's policy is to give you a refurbished iPod.

  • ITunes keeps opening by itself and playing music.

My iTunes keeps randomly opening up by itself and playing music. When it happens, I quit the app and it stops for the day, but it will happen again randomly. Like days or weeks later. I don't know why my computer has decided to start doing this recently, but it's really getting on my nerves.

Sooo annoying. And STILL not fixed.
