Unable to supervise iPads

Hello,
I have used apple configurator on 14 iPads with a loaned MacBook to test this app.
Then I buy a MacBook and install Apple Configurator on it, but when I try to supervise these 14 iPads, a message comming from Apple Configurator says me that these devices are currently being supervised by another host and I cannot supervised them.
How can I supervise these iPads, considering that I do not have the MacBook originally used to configure them ?
Thanks in advance.
Denis

Part of the problem here is that the devices were originally "supervised" on another computer.
You should stick with one computer for your deployment.
In any case erasing will get around any prompt.

I have set up our school ipads to be supervised by Apple Configurator and am using VPP to buy apps. I did this initially as our school internet connection was stopping us from being able to update the IOS and our County was offering a managed system, Lightspeed, which took control of every device in school which proved very expensive.  I now find the supervised ipads do not allow the pupils to download photos or movies etc. As we frequently use the ipads as cameras this is causing us a problem. We have a school imac that I use to keep the devices updated with Apple Configurator (not connected to our network), and this doesn't seem to offer any solution to download them either.  I was told there was a setting in Apple Configurator to allow other computers to download from supervised devices, but I can't see it anywhere.  I am very new to this so any advice or help would be greatly appreciated please.

I assume you are wanting to take the photos and movies off the iPads?
Connect the iPad to a Apple computer. Open "Image Capture". Any photos or video can me imported to the desktop or other location on your computer.
I had this same problem last year and as we have no wifi I asked lots of people at Apple what I could do - no one provided this answer (a little unbelievable!). If you have wifi using something like dropbox would be an easier solution.
    Hope this helps

my ipad2 is unable to find wireless network(s). while at home I am able to connect my MacBook and iPhone to network but am unable to connect iPad. I have restarted the device multiple times and even reset the network and all settings but still no luck

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • Using apple configurator can i install paid and free apps onto a supervised ipad?

I have read somewhere that you can only put free apps onto an unsupervised device and only paid apps can be put on a supervised device. Does this mean that an ipad cannot have both free and paid apps on it at once?

    Hi Samantha,
You can have both free and paid apps on Supervised iPads. Not sure where you read that you couldn't... We have both paid and free apps on all of our 1,000+ iPads in our school district.
    Hope this answers your question!

Unable to sync iPad to iMac. Get message 'iPad can't be synced because not enough free space to hold items in iTunes Library'. Only major content is iTunes U stuff (lots of videos). Don't download any music or other videos to iPad.
Deleted iTunesU content on iPad and unticked iTunes U from syncing on iMac but message remains.
    Very frustrating.

No longer a problem. After leaving a while and trying again the iPad and iMac successfully synced.

  • With supervised ipads, what is the best way to transfer photos and videos from the ipad to the PC? Wireless transfer is not an option in our circumstances

With supervised ipads, what is the best way to transfer photos and videos to the PC? Wireless transfer is not an option in our circumstances.

There are only two ways of transfering things on the iPad.
      - via WiFi
      - via usb cable
From what I have read, you need to connect to iTunes on the supervising PC.

Unable to update iPad. Been backing up forever

    Hey there SHEEL.handa,
As I understand it, your Settings app installing an update correctly that it downloaded. I would start by quitting the Settings app:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If the issue persists, use this part of the article about troubleshooting updating in this manner:
Resolve issues with an over-the-air iOS update
If the issue persists, try updating your device in another network or use iTunes to update your device. Learn more about iOS updates.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • Using Configurator 1.7.1 and every time I try to update a supervised iPad, Configurator treats it as a new device, restores it and wipes it clean. I have it set to "Do not restore backup."

We are a 1:1 iPad school with iPad 2. I'm trying to update iOS to 8.2 and updating all apps as needed. When I plug in a previously supervised iPad, Configurator immediately goes into restore mode and wipes it clean and sets it up ready to "prepare" even though I've chosen "do not restore backup."
Because of this the student loses all their data on the device and I have to go back and set up email accounts again. Although I've had trouble with Configurator in the past, I've been able to figure out solutions but this one has me stuck.

This is might because of your prior change in softwares. so first you have to do run '''sfc''' in run command. and then you see the specific problem which causes this . Since System File Checker (sfc) scan will make Windows replace corrupt or missing system files on your computer.
    * Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
    * Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.
    * In the Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:
    sfc /scannow
Refer this KB article for more information:

See this is not a problem of firefox till now. You can check more with microsoft answers site.

  • Supervised iPads & iBooks Author

Since Apple opened up Apple's supervision model a bit with iOS 7 (now able to browse the device and import photos/videos).. I was hoping Apple would also enable supervised iPads to function as preview devices when using iBooks Author.
iBooks Author has a preview button that will allow you to preview an ebook on an iPad. Unfortuntately when I connect a supervised iPad to iBooks Author, the device is greyed out and beside the device name is says "No ATC". Anyone have any ideas what this means?
    cheers,
    Evan

I fixed this by plugging in the iPad (I believe it would be similar on the iPhone or iTouch) to the computer, and starting iTunes on the computer.  Also selecting "Trust this computer" on the iPad.
Then in iBooks author, the "No ATC" went away.  I don't know what it means, but I presume it means it had No Authorization to Talk to the Computer - whether that is the correct acronym I don't know, but it is something like that.  ;-)

  • Get Photos off supervised iPad

    Hi All,
I have about 60 iPads that have all been setup with Apple Configurator.
Although the configurator provides us with some good options one big issue I'm having is that it seems to block devices from downloading photos onto any machine that wasn't the one configurator was setup on.
You just get recieve an error message stating the iOS Device is supervised by another machine.
Has anyone else experiences this problem? Anyone got a work around?
    Thanks,
    Josh

I had a conversation with a Senior Advisor on Apple Support Live Chat today. The short answer is: it's not possible via USB.
    TRANSCRIPT EXTRACT:
Me: I was just wondering if there is a way to copy photos and videos from an iPad which is supervised to a computer (not the computer that supervises the device) via a USB cable?
Me: I have done lots of Googling and searching of the Community Forums, but I have not been able to find an official apple response.
Me: If you look at this link, you can see lots of people on the Community Forums have the same problem [link to Community search results for "supervised ipad photos"].
Apple Senior Advisor: Ahh, wow, this can be a difficult one. Essentially, iOS devices setup with a profile using Apple Configurator can only be used completely with the computer they were setup with. For importing photos, syncing, and other concerns this can make using them physically with a computer difficult.
Me: I realise that a supervised iPad cannot synchronise with another computer, but I cannot find if it is possible to just copy photos and videos.
Me: Is there a way to copy photos from a supervised iPad?
Apple Senior Advisor: It will not interface with any other computer by USB, except the one it was configured on originally. This includes importing Photos and Videos.
Apple Senior Advisor: The Profile used on it would have to be removed for full access through USB, with other computers.

Tried to install 7.1.2 upgrade on Ipad.  Upgrade would not complete.  Ipad would shut down frequently while trying to use after failed upgrade.  Connected it to ITunes where it tried to install upgrade.  After several attempts message stated I would have to restore.  While trying to restore it fails once it gets to verifying firmware.  Error message is "Unable to restore Ipad.  Unknown error occurred (8).  I've already made sure all updates on PC are complete. Disconnect the iPad from your Mac.
    Open the Finder.
From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/Networkinterfaces.plist
Click Go then move the Networkinterfaces.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. Connect the iPad then launch iTunes.

After the restore did the phone work properly for a while? Say, a day or so?
If so it is possible you have an app that doesn't let go of memory properly. I reboot my iPhone ( hold sleep/wake and hole till you see the apple logo) every few days. This resets the memory. The iPhone OS has doesn't seem to mange memory very well yet. So a reboot will help with that. I have had my phone almost slow to a stop before I started rebooting. Always reboot after installing a new app. Also do you close all pages in Safari when you are done? This is a good practice. Safari will run in the background and use processor time and drain your battery quicker. Create a new blank page then close all others when you are done browsing for a while. I have also found that certain web site that have animated images like weather maps will turn the phone into molasses. As soon as i close that page it gets faster.
If all of the above have no effect then as Tamara said it is time for a trip to the Genius bar.
    Good luck
