Unable to sync iPhone

Hey gang,
I'm trying to synch my iPhone to my new iMac, yet am completely unable to. I get the "session cannot be started" error message. I've tried everything:
- resetting the iPhone
- setting up a guest account with admin powers
- reinstalling iTunes
- repairing disk permissions
- deleting the old backup files
Nothing has worked. It won't let me restore, either.
More info: When I bought my iPhone last year, I synched it to my MacBook Pro. It still synchs like a champ with that. The Migration Assistant should have transferred all of my permissions and accounts from the MacBook, yet the iPhone refuses to synch with the new iMac.
Any ideas? I'm about to pull my hair out.

Hi,
Connect your iPhone to your iMac. Launch iTunes if you don't have it set up to open automatically.
Select your iPhone under Devices on the left. Now from the iTunes menu bar click: Store / Authorize This Computer.
Now try syncing. If it still won't sync, reset the iPhone then sync.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Carolyn

  • Unable to sync iPhone 3G to iTunes 10.5.0.56

Never had any problems syncing until recently. My computer crashed and had to get a new one. Computer guy transfered data from old to new computer. I think that he probably updated my version of iTunes to 10.5.0.56, but can't say for sure. Now I am unable to sync my 3G. My first thought is that my 3G isn't compatible with iTunes 10.5.0.56. Thank you in advance for any input.

    Thanks for the reply.
That's not the answer because it synced fine at work with the same version of Aperture. I restored my iPhone at home to sync with my home machine, but it won't see Aperture libraries at home.
Just to be clear, Aperture shows up as a sync source, but when I tell it to sync Aperture photos, no libraries show up. It's as if I didn't have any libraries in Aperture.

  • HT5868 Unable to sync iPhone 5 with latest version of iTunes

Since updating to version 11.1.4 of iTunes, I am unable to sync my iPhone 5 with my PC. When connecting to the PC, I get a message asking whether I want to trust this computer. Since I've synced with it about a hundred times already, obviously I clicked on Trust.
After clicking on Trust, my PC is able to access the photos/etc on the phone - but iTunes will not sync. Further, it does not remember that I have selected to Trust the PC. (I also opted to Not Trust one time, and it didn't remember that either.)
My PC is running Windows 8, but it was perfectly happy to sync my iPhone 5 before this latest iTunes update, which seems to have broken something pretty fundamental. Apple, please issue a fix, or alternatively let me go back to 11.1.3 (which was working absolutely fine for me).

Did I suggest that you were Apple? Do you believe that every comment mentioning an Apple product is aimed at you personally? Or that, if someone sounds off in a moment of frustration, it is directed at you? Or that you need to point out interminably that Apple don't actually monitor these threads? Because, if you do... get help!
If you look at the thread you will see that someone else (you know, one of those pleasant people I mentioned?) *has* helped - and I'm genuinely grateful! Thank you!

  • HT1386 Unable to sync iphone 3g to itunes

For a month I have been unable to sync my iphone 3g to any of my computers..Is there anything that can be done

I'm having a similar problem. It can find my phone but when I try to sync my phone I can't get passed stage 3. It comes up with a message saying "waiting for changes to be applied", yet I've made no changes. I've uninstalled iTunes several times but I still get the same message. Any idea how I could fix this?

  • Unable to sync iPhone 3

I am currently unable to sync my iPhone 3GS to my laptop as iTunes won't open.  The message being displayed reads: "This file iTunes.itl can not be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes".
Would appreciate any advice about what causes this problem and how it can be resolved.
    Thanks in advance!

Do you have the latest iTunes?  It is 10.3.1.  It is a free download from the Apple website.  You can also update in iTunes by selecting "Check for updates."

Unable to sync Iphone4 with windows 8.1 any suggetions

Were you using the latest version of iTunes - 10.1.2.x ?
For Windows machines there is a specific order of deinstallation that must be followed. If you didn't do it the way Apple specifies you may not have actually reinstalled the failing item.
Here is the correct method: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
If neither of those items are your problem... I'll have to let someone smarter than myself have a go at it ;-/

  • Unable to sync iPhone 4 after upgrading to ios 5

My itunes prompted me to upgrade to ios 5.  During the download it stated it was restoring my phone to factory settings.  When the update was complete, it synced all of my contacts, however my apps and music were deleted.  Now when I try to sync it says step 2 of 4 syncing... then it just stops.  There was originally a message that said could not sync to iPhone because syncing was interrupted.  All of my music is showing up in my iTunes library, it just won't show up on my phone or finish syncing.  Please help!

I'm having the same problem - MacBook Pro running 10.6.5. As soon as I updated itunes to 10.1 it stopped seeing my iPhone. I can see it there through System Profiler - so I know the hardware is working. But iTunes doesn't see it anymore.

I have a 'new' Dell computer running Windows 7.
Have synced my iPhone 4 to the computer numerous times.

After installing that upgrade, I am no longer able to access my iPhone from iTunes. I get the message "device driver software was not successfully installed."
I have followed all of the help on the web site, and nothing helps. iTunes cannot access my wife's iPhone 3GS either.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Unable to sync iPhone 6 after iOS 8.1 update

I recently updated my MaBook Air to OS X Yosemite and replaced my iPhone 4 with an iPhone 6. I backed up the old 4 and restored it onto the iPhone 6 no problem. Everything was working fine, no issues. A day or so later, iTunes prompted me to update to iOS 8.1 (from 8.02 which was on the phone when I bought it last week). After updating (again no issues), I find that the Health App no longer works (all previous data entries had gone, and when I come to add new data, it just freezes). Also, when I come to sync the phone with iTunes, I get to 6 of 7 steps and then it fails with error code 1723 unknown error. Becoming very annoying now, this has happened several times in the last few days...... grateful for any suggestions before I completely wipe the phone and have to start from scratch again....
    Thanks,
    Ian

I have the same problem... My device is overheating and my batteries dies after half of day!

  • Unable to Sync iPhone To iTunes

Recently, I updated my iPhone 5S to iOS 7.1.1, and I had no problem. I also updated my iTunes to the latest version, which also did not cause me any problems. Today, when I tried to sync my iPhone to iTunes via my laptop, I was greeted with an error message, stating that my laptop was not authorized to sync my device and it's purchases, which left me mystified, as I'm sure I had authorized my laptop. Upon attempting to authorize it again, I was informed that my laptop was already authorized for my iTunes account, which is the same one that I use on my iPhone. I'm not sure as to why this is happening, as my past attempts at syncing my iPhone to iTunes were all successful and I did not run into any problems. If you're wondering if I synced my phone to someone else's computer, I did connect my phone to my friend's laptop in school to charge, but, I did not authorize his computer, so, no syncing was done. Also, I did add a payment option to my iTunes account recently, and I purchased one application. I'm very perplexed by this issue, as I have already tried logging in and out of iTunes, and also, authorized and deauthorized my laptop. However, nothing seems to work. When my computer is deauthorized, no attempts to sync occur. When it's authorized, the unauthorizd error message pops up. Is there a known fix for this problem? I've tried restarting my phone as well. None of these attempts work at all. Is it my fault, or did Apple's new update cause a bug in iTunes? I've also tried plugging the USB cable into a different port, but it does not work. I'm able to see the internal storage, but it's only pictures. It appears that I can't transfer purchases made on my iPhone, because, when I'm syncing it, it takes a long time to transfer purchases, then, the bar doesn't even move. I'm just trying to sync a few new songs, but I can't get the damned thing to work. Well, after a while of frustration, the new songs appeared on my phone, but whenever I try to sync, I'm still told that my computer isn't authorized to transfer purchases. I only bought one item, and I'm sure it's not big deal, but I'm worried that my laptop may not sync important files or anything else because of the error.

I guess this question doesn't matter anymore since I got my new iPhone 4 this morning and no longer use the 3GS.

  • Unable to Sync iPhone 5s to iTunes most of the time

    hi,
I thought i'd throw this out the the community before I log an Apple support case, just to see if anyone else has the same issues and whether there is a better fix retaher than the workaround i'm having to do.
I have an iPhone 5s, running the latest patch version of IOS 7, plus the latest patched version of iTunes on my Macbook Pro.
As with my previous versions of iPhone and iTunes, when I want to add music, or a movie to my iPhone I add it to iTunes, select it to copy over and then do a sync with my iPhone - sounds perfect and up to now it has been, however now I have issues!
When I select a new movie to add to my iPhone for example, I start the sync and it goes about the 5 steps to synce (backing up, etc) - then it gets to the 5th step and hangs on 'waiting for changes to be applied'... I've waited for up to an hour and it still stays on this step! I've cancelled the sync and re-tried but it hangs on this step again and again! Problem with this issue is that 1 out of the 5 or 6 times it works fine, don't you hate intermittant problems!!
The only way i've managed to get around this problem is to unselect the 'sync movies' selection to remove all the movies from the iPhone and then re-select it again. Now when it syncs it syncs all the movies AND all the music, so a typical sync will take 7 to 8 minutes!! Its a workaround but not very good if i'm in a rush!
So i'm hoping that ( A ) other people have a similar problem to me (always good not to have a unique issue as theres mre chance to find a fix) and ( B ) someone has a fix!
    Fingers crossed, over to you!!

  • Unable to Sync iphone with outlook 2003

    hi
I have two PCs - one at home and one at office. The PC at home went perfectly (outlook 2007).
I could not sync the contacts and calendars in the outlook 2003 in my office PC with iphone (via itune). I got the error message that "either there is no default mail clinet or mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please turn your outlook as default mail client" but I checked and the outlook was set as default mail client. Pls help
Not sure because the office PC oputlook mail is atatched to the office outlook exchange mail server (while my home PV is attached normal ISP)

I have been having a problem syncing my contacts from outlook 2003 to the iPhone since upgrading to firmware 1.1.3 and iTunes 7.6.
My solution was to exit outlook completely, then run task manager and terminate any outlook tasks that are hanging around. Then (one time only) copy contacts to the iphone by clicking the appropriate box in iTunes. After that it's been syncing normally (as long as no outlook tasks are running).

  • Unable to sync iPhone over USB - MobileMe settings SNAFU!

I've been using my iPhone for about a month without enabling its MobileMe sync settings for my contacts, calendars and bookmarks. This was by mistake.
Now I would like to turn on those settings. However, when I try to do that I am told it will erase the existing contacts in my iphone. This is unacceptable as I have added new contacts in my phone over the last month and would simply like to merge them with the contacts on my computer.
The obvious solution is to sync my iPone with with my computer via USB and iTunes, then sync my computer with my MobileMe account, then enable MobileMe syncing on my iPhone and overwrite everything with the thoroughly updated info.
    HOWEVER
This simply will not work. I can't sync my iPhone with my computer because iTunes keeps telling me that "Your contacts are being synced with your iPhone over the air from MobileMe." This is happening DESPITE the fact that I have turned off all of the MobileMe syncing options on both my iPhone and my computer. To be more specific, on the iPhone under HomeScreen/Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendars/Accounts/MacIMAP - all of the sync settings are set to "Off." Moreover, under Homescreen/Settings/FetchNewData - the Push option is set to "Off".
All of this and iTunes still insists that my phone wants to sync over the air from MobileMe.
Why can't I convince my computer that the phone settings are off and thus enable USB synching??
Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated!
And happy Thanksgiving, by the way!

    You're welcome.
An IMAP account is specifically designed for this.
POP accounts are more common than IMAP accounts, but IMAP accounts are not being phased out - not by a long shot. Supporting SSL for the incoming mail server and outgoing mail server is up to the email account provider for the email account. Some POP account providers support this, and some don't. I've never accessed a POP account provided by an ISP that supported SSL or provided an authenticated SMTP server.
A MobileMe account is accessed as an IMAP account, and Apple supports SSL for the incoming and outgoing mail server, and the outgoing mail server is also authenticated.
You can access a Yahoo account as an IMAP account with the iPhone's Mail client only - not with an email client on your computer.
You can access a Gmail account as an IMAP account with any email client.
