Unable to sync non itunes items to new computer

Old PC no longer available and want to sync my ipod touch with itunes but it only recognises itunes purchased items. There is several music files from other sources that i want to keep but if i am to sync with itunes all my other music will be lost. Any ideas?
Also when i connect the ipod to the windows XP machine it shows in my computer as a scanner/camera and will not let me browse the folders? i have tried to update the driver from device manager but to no joy, Any thoughts?
Thanks

There are third-party program that allow transfering non-Tunes purchased music from the iPod to a computer like those discussed here:

  • Syncing with itunes on a new computer

How can I sync my iphone on a new computer without erasing all my music?

Did you not move your itunes library from the old computer to the new computer?
The iphone will sync with one itunes library at a time. Since the iphone is not a storage device, you cannot move the music from the iphone to the computer. The exception is itunes purchased music. With the iphone plugged in you can hit File>Transfer Purchases in itunes.
You need to put you music into your new computer first then sync.

  • I can't get my ipod touch to sync to itunes in my new computer

I've recently purchased a new computer, and installed itunes onto it. I've plugged in my ipod touch and itunes does not respond to it at all. no sync options, or anything. please help.

Before you do sync, copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.  Otherwise on the initial sync it WILL wipe the content of the iPod and replace it with the blank library from the new computer.

  • How to sync w/  iTune on a new computer

I am synching my iphone w/ a PC (windows XP) and have a lot of podcasts, music, etc on it. I also have my iphone backup by this iTune
I have installed iTune on a different computer (windows vista) and now like to start synching w/ this new iTune without losing anything (backups, music, etc) I have on the other machine.
How would I do this? I kind of like to move everything from one machine to another.
    Thanks,
    -Jalil

You need to transfer your iTunes library from the computer running XP to the different computer running Vista, which is stored in the iTunes folder located in the My Music folder. Transfer the entire iTunes folder and place it in the same location on the computer running Vista.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with a single computer only. After transferring your iTunes folder to the new or different computer, when first syncing iTunes content with this computer, all iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased first followed by being re-transferred to your iPhone since you are syncing iTunes content with a different computer - even though with the same iTunes library that was transferred from another computer.
You don't need to transfer your iPhone's backup from the computer running XP, you can create a new backup of your iPhone with iTunes on the new or different computer. With your iPhone connected, control-click on your iPhone in the iTunes source list. There is an option to create a backup.

  • Syncing to itunes from a new computer without having original itunes library

Hi there i am stuck in a tricky situation and would appreciate all the help i can get, first things first i know this is quite a frequently asked question as i have done a bit of searching on the net about it however could not not find anything that totaly matches my problem, i have recently purchased a brand new laptop which runs windows 7 compared to my old desktop which ran XP, i have tried syncing all of my iphone 4s contents onto my new laptop's itunes library including everything not just music or videos and i got the infamous pop up "The iphone is synced with another Itunes library. Do you want to erase this iphone and sync with this Itunes library" the problem is that my original itunes library does not exist no more as my desktop was completly wiped and had XP redownloaded onto it again because it had a virus, which also wiped all of my hard drive so i cant even get everything i backed up off of my phone from it, i have managed to sign in to the itunes store and allowed my laptop to work with itunes, i have also transferred my purchases from my phone to my new itunes library but this only includes my apps and obviously not my contacts and photos and everything, i still get the pop up if i go to sync my apps from my library anyway, is there any way i can delete my original itunes library without it even existing anymore so that i can just start afresh and sync everything i have on my phone now directly to my new itunes library? or do i need to purchase this iphone rip/backup/store software that everyone goes on about or something? to be honest its really annoying my now as i just want to be able to sync everything like how i used to, someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me i would be so greatfull for any good sollutions to this problem, thankyou

i also forgot to right that i really dont want to loose anything from my phone during this process, thanks

  • Why are some of my songs on my iphone grayed out after syncing to itunes on a new computer?

After syncing my IPhone to ITunes that I had just downloaded on the new pc I just bought, I noticed that there are several songs that are now "grayed out" on my phone and won't play.  There are some songs that are just not on my phone anymore at all, but they are still in my ITunes library on my new pc. How can I get all the songs in my library on my phone and work?

What exactly happens when you try to redownload? Just how does it not let you?
Are you/iPod doing anything between when the songs were there and they were gone?
Does anybody else have access to your iPod?

  • I am unable to sync my iPad with my new MacBook Air without losing all photos even though both are linked to the same iTunes account

I am unable to sync my iPad with my new MacBook Air without losing all photos even though both are linked to the same iTunes account

Transferring photos from your computer has nothing to do with your iTunes account/Apple ID.
Photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring photos from another, all photos on the iPad that were transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPad first - even if the photos were transferred from the old or different computer to the new computer being used for syncing.
When transferring photos from your computer, what is named the iPod Photo Cache is created on your computer for the photos that are transferred and why you see new photos being transferres are optimized before the actual transfer process. The iPod Photo Cache for these photos on the computer the photos were transferred from is not available on your new computer.
Since all photos on your iPad that were transferred from the old or different computer should remain on that computer, transfer the photos from that computer to your new computer. These photos on your iPad will be erased with the first sync but will be re-transferred along with a new iPod Photo Cache for these photos being created on your new computer.

  • I have just changed my computer as my old one died... but now cannot access my old itunes account so i have set up a new one with another email address. how can I sync my ipod to my new computer without wiping all my music ?

I have just tried to sync my ipod to a new computer as my old one died but as I cannot remember my previous log in I created a new itunes account. I now want to sync but it says it will wipe my music off my ipod. Does anyone know how I can do this now ?

If you have purchases on your iPod Shuffle that you want to sync back to iTunes, but are under the Apple ID you no longer have access to, you'll need to reset that account information. You can use this link to reset your password.
    https://iforgot.apple.com/
If that doesn' work or help, you'll need to contact iTunes support and have them walk you through the process of resetting the older account information.  Once you know the email and password again, you can authorize your new computer and transfer any purchases from this account back to iTunes.
For all non-iTunes purchased content, you'll need to the assistance of some sort of third party software that is not supported by Apple. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.
