Unable to sync podcast videos to iPod

I downloaded some podcasts from the iTunes store. There are some audio pieces as well as some videos. I tried to sync them to my iPod classic, yet only the audio ones and a few videos managed to be synced. Some error message poped up, saying the format of the video is not supported by iPod, but I have no problem playing them directly on iTunes. So why cannot iPod support those videos? What should I do to sync those videos to my iPod? Thanks a lot.

I posted this response on a similar thread about the same issue elsewhere on these boards:
Yes, I too have been experiencing the very same error message. I have an 80GB iPod Video (which was later rebranded Classic) that when I first got it played ALL of my video podcasts. Over the past year or so, several of those podcasts now will not sync with the iPod, giving me the error message stated in the original post.
The podcasts in question are all iPod versions, no high def, no strange formats, all found in the iTunes directory.
I too tried to "create iPod version" through iTunes. I compared the specs for both the original and the new iTunes created video, and in most cases the new video was larger!!! Go figure. But the new videos do not always sync with the iPod, in a few cases they do, but there appears to be no rhyme or reason to it.
I wonder if
a) the specs for video playback have increased over time with the addition of new iPod iPad iPhone models to the lineup that content producers are creating content with baseline specs set for these later models. They simply have ignored the 'Classic' market either thru ignorance or strategic decision
b) iTunes has also increased its baseline spec for what it defines as an 'iPod Version' of video. In the name of progress Apple no longer supports Classic-spec video when creating iPod friendly video from iTunes
I have not tried Handbrake to convert these yet but I will try today. This is a huge PITA as I have hundreds of video podcast files through dozens of video podcasts I sync to the 80GB iPod. To have to batch convert every new set of videos downloaded will be a totally unecessary extra step to my media management. Yuk.

    Hello,
when I'm trying to sync podcasts on my iPod nano 6th gen. from iTunes 10.6 iTunes freeze, and i close it from Forcing exit.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • IPod Touch - unable to sync any video

    Hello,
I'm a prou owner of the new iPod Touch, but I have big problems with syncing videos on it. I tried almost everything I found here as suggestions, but nothing helped. Every single time I get the report: +Track "0" could not be copied on your iPod, because it can't be played on this iPod.+ I have no problems syncing music, but video...
I'm using iTunes 8.0 and Windows XP.
For example: I want to sync a Friends episode.
    - first I converted it with Quick Time - no luck.
    - than I converted it with iTunes - still no luck.
    - last but not least I converted it with a Winavi and also All in one converter (that converts specially for iPod) - again no luck.
All the characteristics are ok - H.264, mpeg-4,... and I am really lost with what more can I do to make it work. Please help.

I am also unable to sync my iPod classic to iTunes 8.0.2.20 (my Apple TV would sync just fine). I read on other threads that there is an issue related to DRM. I deauthorized my computer, and the sync completed fine (minus the DRM songs of course). Apple has an issue to fix

  • Unable to Sync All Videos

I have some videos in the Mpeg4 format that I have put into my iTunes movie library. They are not protected by any sort of DRM software but I am unable to get them onto my ipod touch. I am using iTunes 8.0.1, I think it is the most recent. I was able to put one of the videos onto my ipod but the others will not go. I prefer syncing automatically, but I even tried manually managing my library and I was unable to get them to transfer. Any clues as to what is going on?

Highlight your movies in your iTunes library, go to the Advanced menu and select 'create iPod or iPhone version'. When it's finished converting them, drag the new copies over onto your ipod.

Not quite, there's no prohibition here on discussing video conversion apps used legally & relevant to the iPod Touch, unless the information pertains to subverting DRM or other violations of the board T&C's.

  • Syncing HD video to iPod classic

How do I sync HD videos to my iPod classic?

    Hey allanfrommo,
Here is an article that addresses this question about HD videos and your iPod:
iTunes: Sync purchased HD videos to iPod or iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4223
HD videos purchased from the iTunes Store are offered in 720p or 1080p1 and are compatible with iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), Apple TV, and computers. You may need to download your purchased video from iTunes in the Cloud in a lower resolution for your device.2

  • Newest Itunes does not sync podcasts back from  ipod, plays=o so podcasts never deleted

Windows 8, ipod shuffle, newly downloaded itunes.
I have specified delete after played.
If I look at the podcasts on the shuffle, it correctly says the number of plays.  But if I look at the podcast list via computer, it says, for instance "two unplayed' where I have actually listened to both.
Someplace I saw the they get deleted in 24 hours but the ipod count never does get updated to the computer.
I have made a smart playlist where genre=podcast and plays>0  and it returns none.

Looking further into this sync Podcasts problem, I found the answer. Go to Store, sign out and then sign back in. Solved!  Have had this problem since 11.2; drove me nuts!  Sign out and back in worked!

  • Don't want to sync podcasts to my iPod anymore- now they won't transfer!

    Hey folks,
I manually managed all my iTunes podcasts for the longest time without any problem, and last week, decided to try out auto-sync because I would routinely leave the house and forget to transfer the newest editions of my favorite podcasts to my iPod.
After realizing I liked the old way better, I decided to go under the "Podcast" tab of my iPod and uncheck "sync podcasts", assuming that this would let me go back to manually managing them. However, when I try to manually drag and drop my podcasts into my iPod, they don't show up.
All podcasts worked fine before and are all in the right format, being subscribed to in the official iTunes store.
    Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch.
EDIT: Sorry everyone, just realized this is the iTunes for windows section. Didn't mean to post here. Ooops.

You can choose to "automatically update selected playlists only" in which case you can create a playlist specifically for the Nano and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. Or you can choose to "manually manage songs and playlists"
    For info:
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • New iPhone user - Unable to sync podcasts to iphone

I've subscribed to several podcasts from itunes on my PC - however they will not sycn with my iPhone. Why is this? Do I manually have to copy and paste them in the Podcast folder for my iPhone? As this is what I have been doing, but I would like to have them sync and update automatically.

Did you subscribe to the podcasts through the iTunes store?  If so, they should automatically be downloading to the Podcasts folder of your iTunes Library (located on the left sidebar).  Once there, you can sync them to your phone by connecting your phone, when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar click on it, click on the Podcasts tab to the right and check to Sync Podcasts.  You might find it helpful to read the help file on syncing in iTunes: Help>iTunes Help, read the section called "Sync your iPod, iPhone, or iPad".

  • Unable to sync TV Shows to ipod video.  New hard drive

I had a bad hard drive and recovered the data. iTunes has all the music and Tv shows that I saved and the I had purchased. All music syncs to ipod but TV Shows won't.
when i try to deauthorize, the error message is:
*We could not complete your iTunes Store request. You do not have enough access priviledges for this operation.
There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later.*
I am logged in to the store also.

Incredibly, Mike 57's technique works. What's even more incredible is how such a huge bug - failure to sync purchased movies upoloaded from iTunes - got into a production release.
Whoops, I forgot! This is Apple, the company that can do no wrong. Mindless loyalty to Apple has let them get away with such foolishness for decades. I wonder how many Apple TV units have been returned because of this bug. Thousands?
No problem for Apple, with 100 million iPods out there and the kewlest corporate image in the biz. These days, as in the past, brand image is more important than reality.

  • Unable to sync certain apps on ipod touch (4th gen)

Hi, I have recently been having problems syncing my ipod touch (4th gen) after upgrading to the latest itunes and iOS. Music seems to go on fine, however certain apps will not install. Some will go on eventually if I keep on trying, however modern combat 3 which I recently bought, will not install at all. I've tried several fixes now, turning off genius, my antivirus and firewall, even restoring my ipod. I also have Windows 8 if that makes a difference. I hoped iTunes 11 would fix the problems but unfortunetely it hasn't. I used to get error messages saying that an internal error has occurred, however on iTunes 11 nothing comes up, and the sync keeps looping without completing, unless i untick the box to not install modern combat. Is there anything I might have missed?
    Thanks

Try deleting the app and redownloainf it and then try syncing.
    Then try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

i get an error message saying: the ipod 'name' could not be synced because the sync session failed to start.

Since the Surface Pro 3 is effectively a standard Windows 8.1 system with a "tablet" form factor it should be fine (I don't have one - yet - but I know people who are using the Pro 3 with iTunes/iPods without problems).
You may be encountering an issue that occurs with the last two releases of iTunes - 12.1.0.71 and 12.1.1.4 are (unlike previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes) full 64-bit applications - prior to 12.1 most "64-bit" versions were actually 32-bit applications with a 64-bit installer.  Many users have encountered issues with the 64-bit version of 12.1 - less so with 12.1.1.4, but it appears that there are some remaining incompatibilities/inconsistencies with some 64-bit Windows systems.  Even though I've not seen this reported specifically for the Surface Pro 3, it may be worth trying this alternative installer: iTunes 12.1.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards).  The "for older video cards" label is a little misleading, since although this does resolve a video compatibility issue that iTunes detects when first run it is actually the same architecture as pre-12.1 releases (32-bit applications with a 64-bit installer).
You don't say that you've actually had sync problems or are just concerned that you might ... if the former, posting back more details of symptoms may be useful.  For example, if you connect your iPod does it show up in iTunes?  If not, there may be specific resolutions that could work rather than using the "for older video cards" version - see iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support

  • How do I sync podcast on my iPod Classic?

    Hello,
Since I installed iTunes 11.1, the new episodes are not uploaded on my iPod Classic. It looks like podcasts are no more downloaded on my iMac, that I have to read them in streaming. Fine, but how do I do with my iPod Classic?
    Thanks in advance.

ebooks or audiobooks?  I assume audiobooks since ebooks are not compatible with your iPod.  You have to set your iPod up to sync them from under its Audiobooks tabs in iTunes.
