Unable to uninstall or to update Adobe Acrobat reader:

Use the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove corrupted registry entries.
To remove Adobe Acrobat reader, download Microsoft Clean Up Utility and install it:
Here's the download link.
The Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility only removes registry entries created by the application installer. Files and other registry entries for the application are not removed by this utility and could cause inadvertent effects on the system if not removed.
* When it is installed, pull down the menu Start and Programs , and click on Windows Install Clean Up to launch it.
* In the list, select Adobe Reader (/!\ be careful : nothing else ), click on Remove then click on Exit and restart your computer.
You can follow the above steps for the Error "1635: This patch package could not be opened" -- Acrobat and Adobe Reader

I have downloaded and installed this utility.  It doesn't appear on the Start/Programs list although it is on the Add/Remove programs list and appears to uninstall normally.
I couldn't get it to work.  This download is from a non-Microsofy source, Seagull Scientific Inc who appear to be repuytable, but I would advise caution.
Edit:
Ok, now I got it fixed.  I have dual screen setup and had the second screen switched off - the Start/Programs menu was overflowing to the second screen and the program was listed at the end.
I ran it and it solved my problem.  Thanks!

  • Why am I unable to activate, use or install Adobe Acrobat Reader XI Free version on Windows 8.

Downloads are normal. I always deactivate Windows Defender during download and installation attempts. Thi is the only anti virus software I have, but still, neither can I read any PDF documents nor can I uninstall Acrobar reader.

Every time I install it, the installation appears to have been completed. I get the Adobe icon in the programmes list on my C drive. But I am unable to either open or uninstall the prgramme. While tryng to uninstall, error messages say that there are problems with the Windows Installer. When I click on the Adobe icon, to try and opem the programme, nothing happens. I have been trying to read PDF documents that are1. Saved on my hard drive2. Email attachements3. From websitesNone of them open. My operating system is a Windows 8 Pro, bought in November, directly from Microsoft. The usual message that comes on when I try to open the documents is: "Windows cannot access.....check the spelling...etc.

    Hi,
It looks like you do not have access to the registry key mentioned i.e. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\MSFS.
This might be due to the fact that you may not be added to the Administrators group or the registry key has been denied access explicitly to a group that you may be part of.
People in my network setup were facing the same issue, and we fixed the same using Microsoft's "subinacl" tool. You can follow the below mentioned steps to rectify your issue as well:
    1. Download Microsoft's SubinACL tool fromhttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe -4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en
    2. Install the same by double clicking on the "subinacl.msi" just downloaded.
    3. Open Command Prompt window through the Run Dialog Box (Start -> Run and type "cmd" and click OK)
    4. In the Command Prompt window, type in the following commands:
        i. cd /d "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools" (Hit Enter)
       ii. subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents /grant=administrators=f /grant=SYSTEM=f /grant=USERS=f /grant="Creator Owner"=f (Hit Enter)
You should see some processes happening on your screen. After the process ends, retry the operation you were originally trying to perform. Hopefully, they should succeed now.

  • Unable to update adobe acrobat

I have not been able to update Adobe Acrobat.  What is preventing this and how might I fix it?

What version of Acrobat do you have?  Pro, Reader, and version number?

  • Error 1067: when trying to update Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro

I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and have been using it for over 3 years. I Changed computers and uninstalled it from my first and then reinstalled it in my new, but have run into a problem that I cannot find an answer to, nor can I get any help from Adobe.
I will be notified that there are updates available and I will select yes to update the program, but after 20-30 second, a new window will pop up stating:
    Update Failed
    The process terminated unexpectedly.
    Error: 1067
    Details   (http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/update-errors-acrobat-reader-windows.html)
From there, I will click on the Details link and be sent to an Adobe page telling me:
Try downloading Reader directly from this page.
This link sends me to a page to download the latest version of Adobe Reader (http://get.adobe.com/reader/direct/), so, I will make all of the selections, download it, install it, restart my computer, but when I open Acrobat 9 Pro and try to run the update again, nothing changes and I receive the same error message.
Now, I go to try and get some help from Adobe, but am just sent here to see if I can find out any other information because they "no longer" help with Acrobat 9 Pro(?).
Does anyone have any answer on what I can do to fix this or why this is happening? I've never had any problems with this program before. It just all started when I changed computers, and this one is a brand new computer, so no bugs or anything. I installed Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS5 and InDesign CS5 without any problems and they all updated without a problem.
I'm not sure how important the updating really is, but it makes me feel better, knowing that any changes or problems with the program can get "fixed" with these updates.
    Thank You,
    Sean

Not that it is going to ease the testing of your patience at all to suggest you try somewhere else, but there is a forum dedicated to Acrobat Installation and Update Issues that might have some info or people ready and able to help you:

OK, let's try more thoroughly uninstalling the hp software for 10.5 using the 'scrubber' option.  First, install the wrong software from the CD (for 10.5) so we can more thoroughly uninstall it.  Next:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall << This is the scrubber option
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Restart your Mac
    Now, run a Software Update.
Finally, download and install the "Full Featured" Driver and Software from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Unable to edit PDF files in Adobe Acrobat DC

i am unable to edit a file in adobe acrobat dc i have tried with multiple files and everytime i click edit pdf it get a pop up that says adobe acrobat dc has encountered an unknown error however i have been able to edit a few pdf's i tried everything from re downloading a new file to saving it in acrobat reader and nothing is working please help

    Hi imadb,
Since you have the Acrobat Pro DC 30-day trial, please try opening that to edit your PDFs (rather than opening them in Reader, and clicking the Edit PDF button).
If you search your computer, you should have both an Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and and Adobe Acrobat Pro application. They can coexist, but it does make things a little confusing.
If you want to evaluate  Acrobat Pro DC, it's best that you open it directly. That way, you can get the real "lay of the land" with Acrobat before making any purchase decisions.
    Best,
    Sara

  • How to update Adobe Acrobat 9.X?

I'm trying to update Adobe Acrobat 9.0 to the latest revision Adobe Acrobat 9.5.5. I downloaded each of the updates, but I keep getting a reminder that normal windows update does not apply. I downloaded the files and normally would then click on each update to update the preceding revision in order. However, it appears this is not the way for these revisions. How do I update the Adobe Acrobat 9.0?

Normally you would either use Help>Updates in Acrobat, though a lot of us do use the manual updates, particularly if the Help route fails. Since you have 9.0, you have about 13 updates to do as I recall. I would download them from the top down as each download indicates the previous version that is needed for applying the update. There are actually AA9 updates, but several can be skipped. Also, you generally do not have to reboot until you finish with the last update. You might want to start with the 9.0 update that I think just adds some options. Then from the updates page you would install 9.1, 9.1.1, 9.1.2, 9.1.3, 9.2, etc. If you have downloaded from the top down, you will know which ones you can skip. Is that what you were asking about?

  • I have repeatibly loaded Adobe Acrobat Reader but the Plugin Check gives me Adobe Acrobat Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.0.1 Outdated Version Update. While the plug in check is important it is quite bothersome at present. Please help.

EVERY TIME the browser boots it kicks off the plug in check. I understand that this is important but it is currently a pain. Once I update Adobe Acrobat Plug in the browser does not recognize that the plug in has been installed and keeps coming up and up an up an up.
