Unable to unlock a PSD image file

It seems that when opening a file I saved as a PSD several years back, that I cannot unlock it. The intent is to work as a new layer so I leave the original file alone. But since I cannot add a new layer I am stuck. Any suggestions? I've tried forcing a new layer by choosing Control/Alt/N but I end with a blank document. The interesting thing is when I view the filename I see in parenthesis (Alpha 1/8). So I am now wondering how this might affect my inability to unlock this.
Anyone have any ideas?

What Mode is the document in? Do check this, use PS / Image / Mode and tell us what things in the menu have checkmarks next to them.
As far as what to do to add a layer, if your document is in Multi-channel mode, then you will need to change the mode to something else to add a layer, and the act of changing modes will remove the ability to get back to where you were before. A suggestion would be instead of adding a new layer to your current document, use File / Save As to create a new copy of it, and then do what you want with that new copy, leaving the original named PSD as the state of your PSD if you need to return to it.

Unable to view two different image files at once in PS CS4

For some reason I am unable to open two separate image files and view them both on my screen in Photoshop CS 4. My goal is to combine two versions of the same raw file in order to expand the tonal range. I want to stack the 2 images and then use a layer mask to blend the best parts of both versions. The problem is that when I open the second version, the first isn't visible until I close the top image. I want to view both images on the screen and stack them but can't do that because I only see one. Can some kind soul tell me what I'm doing wrong here?

Thanks for responding. This works really well. I did learn that if I go to Window>Arrange>Float All in Windows (thanks to another email from the forum) that I can view both images at the same time. Please view this as an Option to perform your task. There are smarter ways to do this but this is what I do...
*) I pull up the image file (say pic_01) and adjust the levels in the area of the photo I want.
*) I then open from the RAW doc and it is now sitting as a Tiff in Photoshop.
*) I rename that file (such as pic_01Top) and SAVE. (But keep it open)
*) I go back and reopen pic_01 in RAW and adjust the other properties I want.
*) Open that image from RAW.
*) Perform a ctrl c to copy.
*) Close pic_01
*) Do a cntrl v to copy that over pic_01Top
*) Go to Layers-Layer mask-Hide all. (This also give you your "free" layer mask)
*) Go to my brush tool.
*) Use the black over white box arrow to reveal or conceal your bush strokes.
*) Flatten file when done and Save anyway you wish.

Unable to unlock encrypted disk images created with Snow Leopard using Lion

Anyone else unable to unlock encrypted disk images created with Leopard and Snow Leopard with Lion? I know that they made changes with the release of FileVault 2 on Lion and Snow Leopard cannot use Lion encrypted disks but I thought it was backwards compatible where Lion should still be able to work with Snow Leopard created images (it was in the pre-release versions of Lion).
When attempting to mount an encrypted disk image created with Snow Leopard on Lion the normal password prompt appears but then just reappears every time the password is entered and does not unlock and mount the image. I'm positive the correct password is being entered and it works just fine when done on a machine running Snow Leopard.

Not in cases when the computer successfully boots to one OS but produces three beeps when an attempt is made to boot it to another. If it really was a RAM problem that serious, the computer wouldn't get as far as checking the OS version, and it has no problems booting Lion. In the event of a minor RAM problem, it wouldn't produce three beeps like that at all.

I am unable to drag and drop image files in a JAVA supposrted site. I have all the lastest versions of softwarte here - everything is up to date.

I am no longer able to drag and drop image files int this JAVA supported site. It had always worked flawlessly in the past.
I would open the site, go to Send Files, allow access, fill out the fields and then drag and drop my image files. Now I can only use the ADD (+) button to do so.
I have the latest versions of OS-X Lion and JAVA installed on my computer

Unable to create cd from Image file

I downloaded the Solaris 8 for Intel, unzipped the files. I have been unsuccessful creating an image file for the file sol-8-1_01-fcs-bin-ia-v1. I have tried various CD writing applications.
I was able to create images from the other files.

You are not supposed to create an image file from the unzipped data. These unzipped files are image
files! You just have to rename them using the proper file extension so that your CD-R burning software
recognizes them as cd image files. (common extension are .ISO or .RAW; check with your CD recording
software)

Unable to open photos (missing image file)

When trying to double click on a photo in iphoto, I get a black triangle w/ exclamation point inside. I can view the photo as a thumbnail, just can't open it. I downloanded and installed iphoto library manager and tried rebuilding library. After it was complete, I got the following error message...
"An error occurred (1602). The photo could not be transferred (The image file is missing from /user/....../desktop/iphoto/library/Masters)". Of about 6000 photos, this error occurred for 4,000. The rest work just fine. I have recently run all the recommended updates for the computer. Please advise.

When using iPLM to rebuild the library did you have the checkbox checked to Scavanged orphaned photos checked?
If the masters are not there then your only recourse is to restore a backup copy of the library made at a time before this problem occurred.

It turns out that you cannot update or delete a Syndication Map that is currently assigned to a Port in the Repository. You must remove the map from the Port in the Repository and then you can change and/or delete them.
1) bring up the MDM Console
2) Unload the repository
3) drill into Admin ~ Port
4) Remove or change the map associated to the port
5) Load the repository
6) Then you go into Syndicator and either Update the Map or Delete it
It had nothing to do with security.

Computer crashed. But i saved my PSD every like 30 seconds.. Now i open my file it says "Unable to complete request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"

Anyways.. My computer crashed.. "It does that sometimes" I re-opened my PSD and it says "Unable to complete request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"

I downloaded it and looked at it. Even Graphic Converter can't recover any pixels or meaningful data, just some general information:
In my experience, if GraphicConverter can't open it, nothing will.

Unable to import certain image files in CS5

I currently am using CS5, and I am unable to import certain image files such as .png and.tga. When I try to import them I get an error message saying something along the lines of file type not supported. Any help?

Make sure that the images are not CMYK color space.

One thing to take note of is everytime I start AE I get a pop up box saying "You have at least one output module template that refers to a missing plug-in. Please check your Output Module Template". That plug-in would be the TIIFF alpha sequence output. Perhaps that has something to do with it..

I was trying to install fbpanel, after succesfully installing it i got this eror when trying to run it via the terminal.

Yes, google, or our wiki. Don't be a help vampire. The forums are here to help, but you should first try to search. And either a google or wiki search with anything related to logind would get you just what you are looking for. (edit: this is not to say your original question wasn't a good one. It did tell you the file name and line number, you should use those to check the file yourself, but it was a fair question. I'm referring here only to the logind followup)
However, if being in the audio group doesn't help, neither will having a valid logind session. Do you have a /dev/mixer? When a program says it can't find a file, check to see if that file exists.
I have no /dev/mixer. But I did do a google (actually duck duck go) search with site:archlinux.org for this and the first entries were to threads on this forum with the exact same volume plugin issue you're having for fbpanel - and those threads have the solution.

LR unable to read CS2 PSD files?!!

Does it make sense to anyone that LR 2.1 would be unable to read intact PSD files created in Photoshop CS2? It is telling me I need to reopen a bunch of files and save with "maximize compatibility" checked. Does anyone else find this unfathomable? Can anyone possibly provide me with a valid technical reason why this might be the case? (I am an engineer, so if there is a real reason I'd love to hear it.)

"maximise compatibility" used to be called something else around photoshop 5. I cant remember what it was but it was slightly more descriptive. It maeks you think that it'll apply to non-adobe products, but layered files whithout maximise compatibility wont preview in bridge, open in illustrator etc. I've always thought that ALL adobe files should save with a jpeg preview and appropriate warnings so that if you choose it (to minimise file size) you can at least see what the file is.

This is developer from Autodesk. We get this compile error from time to time. This is a sporadic failure. We can't find any issue in our own project.

I find a help doc from the website to try some steps to solve this issue.
Error ID: BC31019
To correct this error
Compile the program again to      see if the error recurs.
If the error continues, save      your work and restart Visual Studio.
If the error continues, restart      the computer.
If the error recurs, reinstall      Visual Basic.
If the error persists after      reinstallation, notify Microsoft Product Support Services.
My question is what the root cause for this issue. Could you please give us some explanation where the issue should be, VB compiler? .Net Framework?

Unable upload a small image file

Recently Unable to upload even a small image file.
A message, the file's size exceeds a limit, appears in a pop-uip menu.
At the end of July it had no problem.
Anyone know how to fix it.
