Unable to update Adobe Reader plug in for Firefox 28

Everytime I try I can download the update but am unable to get it to run.

Hi Fedupinnz,
Please refer to the KB : http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

  • I have repeatibly loaded Adobe Acrobat Reader but the Plugin Check gives me Adobe Acrobat Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.0.1 Outdated Version Update. While the plug in check is important it is quite bothersome at present. Please help.

EVERY TIME the browser boots it kicks off the plug in check. I understand that this is important but it is currently a pain. Once I update Adobe Acrobat Plug in the browser does not recognize that the plug in has been installed and keeps coming up and up an up an up.
This is the message I get.

  • Adobe Reader Plug-in for Chrome

I was wondering if there was going to be any releases soon to resolve the issue with the Adobe Reader Plug-in for Chrome due to Chrome no longer supporting NPAPI? I know there is a work around found on Chromium Blog: The Final Countdown for NPAPI : "We will provide an override for advanced users (via chrome://flags/#enable-npapi) and enterprises (via Enterprise Policy) to temporarily re-enable NPAPI while they wait for mission-critical plugins to make the transition." However, that work around will no longer be available come September 2015.
Please let me know if anyone has any information as to if the next  version of Reader plug-in will be supported in Chrome, and if not when?
    Thanks!

Look for a plugin that supports PDF; Reader is an application, not a file format, so it may not be listed that way in the plugin list. If not, you may just have to download the PDFs and open them in Reader manually but you can try asking for help in the Chrome forums:

  • Adobe Reader Plug-in for Google Chrome

I use the Adobe REader Plug-in for Google Chrome. My question is: Is there a way to change the default zoom?

The default zoom for the plugin should be the same as for the standalone Reader.  Is it not?

  • Updating Adobe Flash Plug-In for Mac 10.5.8

Hello, I have been trying to update the Adobe Flash Plug-In for a Mac 10.5.8 and have not had much success.  I've downloaded the plug-in 4 times and it will not run properly.  Please advise!  Thank you.

Mac OS10.5.8 was one of the last versions of the operating system that worked on both PowerPC Macs and Intel Macs.
If you have a PowerPC Mac then Adobe no longer support them and there is no newer version of the Flash plug-in.

  • Missing Adobe Reader Plug-In for Chrome

    Chrome Version: 26.0.1410
    Operating System: Mac OSX 10.6.8
    Extensions: None
When trying to open a PDF inside of Chrome, I receive an error to disable the Chrome default PDF view and use Adobe Reader instead.
Using this website: http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=142056, I disabled the Chrome PDF Viewer plug-in.
I then opened Adobe Reader and went to Preferences > Internet. There should be a check box for Web Browser Options. Instead, I see a web page link that instructs me to disable Adobe Reader plug-ins within Chrome.
But when I open the chrome://plugins, I do not have any for Adobe Reader.
How can I disable something that isn't there?

Look for a plugin that supports PDF; Reader is an application, not a file format, so it may not be listed that way in the plugin list. If not, you may just have to download the PDFs and open them in Reader manually but you can try asking for help in the Chrome forums:

  • Adobe Reader plug-in for Safari can't find Adobe Reader

I keep Adobe Reader.app in Applications/Local-A/PDF Software.  When I try to open a PDF in Safari (5.0.3), the plug-in can't find the reader.  I have to point it there each time I open Safari.  I would have thought it would know where to look after the first time, but it doesn't.  How do I permanently tell the plug-in where to look?

    Hi,
Default install of Adobe Reader X package has Browser plug-in checked for install. Did you customize your installation and unchecked this option which indicates you dont want to install browser plug-in. Other possibility could be that you are using both Reader 9 and Reader X in your system and after Reader X install, you have updated Reader 9 assuming updating 9.4.0 to 9.4.1. This will change the plug-in version back to 9.4.1 (latest update).
One way to have version X is rerun Reader X installer and it will repair your plug-in to version 10.0.0. As an advise do not use both Reader 9 and Reader X in same system (though this is possible). You can simply delete version 9 application and continue working with Reader X installed.
Secondly to answer your question that Safari keeps on asking to choose Reader application, what you can do is  open com.adobe.acrobat.pdfviewer.plist in /Library/Preferences in any plist viewer. It should have a key - WebBrowserUsePath. This should be pointing to correct reader application on your system. Normally its value is something like - file://localhost/Applications/Adobe%20Reader.app/
In your case you have moved Adobe Reader.app to /Applications/Local-A/PDF Software/Adobe Reader.app
So change the value of this key to point to correct application. Here it should be - file://localhost/Applications/Local-A/PDF%20Software/Adobe%20Reader.app/
This will ensure that Safari does not prompt you again.
    Thanks,
    Karan

  • Adobe pdf plug in for firefox, 10.1.4 version, does not work but can not update to new version, why?

Adobe pdf plug in does not work, when I tried to update following message appeared, "Adobe Reader 9.5.1 and lower has been blocked for your protection", how to solve this problem?

Could you review/adjust your preference for which program opens PDFs? I'm not sure how that drop-list behaves when there are multiple Adobe plugins. You might need to physically remove an old plugin file or two to make sure Firefox is not trying to use the old one.
    * [[Use the Adobe Reader plugin to view or download PDF files]] <br>
''Edit: actually this article describe how to use the Options dialog Applications section to review/change the setting: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]]''.
    * C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins (only one want nppdf32.dll here)
    * In regedit.exe, check the following key for the source of obsolete plugins: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins
Both the file that stores download handling preferences, and the file which registers plugins, can be renamed and Firefox will regenerate them, so those remains options for further actions as well.

  • Adobe PDF Plug-in for Firefox & Netscape ''9.4.1'' was causing unresponsive problems on my browser and I had to disable it . Is there anything I can do about this?

I was getting an unresponsive script warning on most web pages, but more persistent on Windows Live telling me to stop script or continue. I could view the pages by doing both and the only way i could stop the warnings from appearing was to disable the Adobe PDF Plug-in. Increasing the time for the script to run didn't seem to work either. It was taking too long for the pages to load and Firefox used to hang.
After disabling the plug-in it stopped doing it.
Does disabling it effect my browser in any other way?

    Hello Vivek,
I have learned I do have the latest Adobe Reader installed and that the plug-in is included in that download & install. So apparently the problem lies with the Firefox plug-in checker.
I did the ALT + H, while in FF, & deleted the file, retried update, using the Firefox Plug-in Checker w/same results.
Then I exited FF, did the Windows key + R typed in %APPDATA% & located it then deleted it, and now wouldn't you know the Plug-In Checker is not working, (We've encountered an error. Please try your request again later.)
Just gave it another shot & it's working . But still no joy, same results, showing the plug-in needs updating - being outdated version.

  • Adobe PDF Plug-In for Firefox & Netscape 9.5.0 not installing

Win 7/ FIrefox 10/ Chrome 17/ IE 9 (All current)
I've asked this on other support sites, not getting THE answer. Be easier if I could copy/paste here, but here goes.
I download the title plug-in to my download file. Once I click on run, nothing happens, I wait 15-45 minutes, then retry to install. I get a pop-up window says "Only a single instance of this application can run at a time:" I am not getting a download progress window.
I have also attempted using Revo Uninstaller Pro to install it, same results.
I have disabled my virus blocker during this process also.
And I have followed the Adobe direct download link, but it will only let me select my OS, and language, not the version.
Close down everything start from scratch same thing. I have tried right clicking on the download, exiting browser & running as an administrator, same results.
I get the feeling, since the initial download is so brief that it is not really downloading, but what do I know.

    Hi Jeff,
    Thanks
I have narrowed it down to; I have the current Adobe Reader installed. Firefox Plug-in checker is telling me that it is vulnerable & needs updating. I have no idea why. I have posted it on their forum page, but haven't received any replies, I posted it yesterday. Still if you have any info that might be helpful, since I am flying by the seat of my pants, I would appreciate it. I like to drive a car-don't know how to mechanic on one.

  • AdobePDF Plug-in for Firefox & Netscape 10.0.1 won't update for me

I check my plug-ins almost daily. Adobe Acrobat needed to update. I have never had trouble before with this.
It's Adobe PDF Plug-in for Firefox and Netscape 10.0.1 that won't update. Thing is the Adobe Manger came on and it looked like it was done and in my Add-ons box it's there but the plug-in on my Firefox plug-in page says it's outdated. I tried to install it several times and the Adobe Manger downloads but site still says it's outdated. My Adobe Reader X works fine though. Maybe this is something I don't have to worry about but I don't know. So, I'm asking for some help.
Also, even though this didn't update correctly, when I did update the first time it brought along a new plug-in called getPlusPlus for Adobe 162103, at first I disabled it in my add-0n/plug-in box but I read that this helps Adobe Reader and I enabled it. But the Plug-in box remains grey and says unknown. So, should I disable it?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Sincerely,
    Debbie

No, it won't interfere with your Adobe Reader X as it is only the problem with the plug-in. Your Adobe Reader X will still function normally. You should receive a notice from Adobe in your PC to notify you there's an update waiting to be installed, if you have chosen to be notified:
Open Adobe Reader X > Edit > Preference > Updater and choose whatever option you prefer.
Or you can also check for update periodically at Help > Check for Updates
