Unable to update, error -1001

hey all...
just got my macbook couple days ago. I wanted to update the software so i clicked on the update and the computer showed all the programs wanted to update. i clicked ok and everything was working fine. then i decided to cancel the update.
and since then, until this moment i've been unable to use the update anymore. everytime it start searching i get a message saying problem with my connection. i tried restarting dozens of times. i downloaded the 10.4.7 updtate from the site... still the update thingy wont work. it keeps asking me to diagnose my connection. and when i check it, it says my connection is fine and nothing wrong with it!
so whats wron?
and isn't there anyway we can contact apple other than phone?

This from...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
"Software Update quits unexpectedly with Mac OS X 10.4
It's possible that Software Update could unexpectedly quit when installing software in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger (via a network connection other than your built-in Ethernet port such as AirPort), but there's a quick and easy fix. Just make a change in Network preferences:
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
Click Network to display its preference pane.
From the Show pop-up menu, choose Network Port Configurations.
Select the Built-in Ethernet checkbox to enable the port.
Click Apply Now.
That's it. Software Update should now work just fine. If you wish, you can go back to Network preferences and disable the built-in Ethernet port again. You don't have to use Ethernet to download updates."

  • Unable to update error tied to Unable to purchase error?

I have tried changing the DNS servers to both Google (8.8.8.8,  8.8.4.4) and openDns (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220) and have had no luck updating to 5.1.  I have tried multiple Wi-Fi connections.  I haven't tried updating through itunes becase I havent had a chance to plus I just moved and don't have internet hooked up at my new house yet.  I really don't want to have to wipe my iphone 4 just to download 5.1.  I am wondering if this "unable to check for update error is tied in any way to the "Unable to purchase _______ and ___ other apps at this time error." I am interesed to know if anybody who is having trouble updating to 5.1 also gets the unable to purchase ___ error.

I have this problem too, I keep getting pop ups saying that my iPad 2 is unable to purchase certain things I haven't even purchased!
Plus I have been trying to download the 5.1 update since it was released last Wednesday with no luck, I keep getting the same unable to check for updates error message...
It's frustrating seeing as both my iPads and iPhone 4s and apple TV can't be updated... I don't want to have to alter any dns settings. Why should I have too!!!
Anyway how would changing the dns settings help an apple TV ?
It's about time apple let us know what's wrong!

Update status: We are currently unable to check for updates. (80072ee7)
If I press 'check for updates' I get 'Checking for updates' for a very long time if i keep the screen active by tamping on blank area of screen (10+ minute). Eventually the I relise I've got better things to do and the screen times out. When I unlock the device I get the above 80072ee7 error again.

Quick note to say I got the phone updated by using the Nokia Software Recovery Tool mentioned in this post: http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Software-Updates/How-to-Update-to-8-1/m-p/2957689/highlight/true#M15...
It would be useful to know if there are any repercussions to forcing an update through like that?
The phone now happily checks for updates btw

  • I continue to receive "Firefox unable to update error". Have tried all remedies suggested.

I have tried all suggestions listed on your support site to correct this issue. Even after receiving the "something is causing Firefox not to be updated" message, I check the current version of Firefox and it says it is up-to-date. I have also uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it with the same results. Please help. Thanks.

Make sure that your firewall isn't blocking the updater process.
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Problem updating from Acrobat 10.1.10 to 11. Error 1001, and am told to connect to update server. When I activated the installer, message said Install failed, contact manufacturer for assistance, so I am.

I am using a 2011 MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.9.5.  Have been using Acrobat 10.1.10, but got a pop-up notice from Adobe today, saying that it had been awhile since last logged on and my software was due for an update. However, after downloading the update Acrobat 11, the updater seems to be unable to FIND the file to update, so it asks me to select the file to update. When I found it, the file icon was grayed out, and wouldn't allow me to select it. Gave me a message for "Error 1001". I'm an experienced Mac user, but not a programmer, so I don't know what that means. When I tried to run the installer from the downloaded file, it stopped, saying "Installation Failed" due to encountering an error—which was NOT named or numbered—and that I should contact the manufacturer for assistance. Which I am ATTEMPTING to do, but it appears to be impossible to actually get direct help.
Suggestions, or better yet, direct answers, would be appreciated.

Did you ever figure out the problem? "Contact Software Manufacturer"?? That sounds ominous... I've got the same issue and I'm pretty durn aggravated right about now....
    Thanks!

I checked my Services console and Bonjour was started. I can also stop and start it without issue. I searched for these errors, but most of what I found was trouble getting the Bonjour service to start and as you can see, this is not my issue.
I have also tried to update iTunes with Bonjour stopped and disabled and with my Eset NOD32 Antivirus software disabled, but neither of these steps made any difference. I do not have a third-party firewall on my PC, but I am using Windows firewall. I have also tried disabling the Windows firewall, but this made no difference.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    More information:
Found this in the System log in Windows Event Viewer. There are many occurrences coinciding with the times I have been trying to update iTunes and/or Bonjour.

    alter database app.db end archive;

How do I retain my apps after I change my apple ID? Right now I'm unable to update any of the apps with the old apple ID. I get an error message about an invalid id or Password. If I delete my appos and start over, I may lose the apps that I purchased (like the ones for $5 +....

Apps are always tied to the ID that was used to purchase them originally. Did you try entering your old password and see if that works?
If you need to sign out of your old account go to Settings>Store>Tap on your ID and sign out. Sign in with the new one.
you can also access your ID in the featured tab of the App Store. Swipe to the bottom of the screen and you will find it there as well.
