Unable to update iPad. Been backing up forever

Hey there SHEEL.handa,
As I understand it, your Settings app installing an update correctly that it downloaded. I would start by quitting the Settings app:
iOS: Force an app to close
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If the issue persists, use this part of the article about troubleshooting updating in this manner:

If the issue persists, try updating your device in another network or use iTunes to update your device. Learn more about iOS updates.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,

  • Unable to update ipad to iOS4.3

I have already update my iTunes to the latest version and it still said unable to update the ipad with the error code 3194.

    Hi Hannah9923,
I just updated my iPad to the latest version of iSO. I had  the same problem than you.
In my case, I have my iPad on Airplane mode, and conneted by WiFi. I was not able to update it using a laptop or Mac Pro until I switched off the airplane mode. I think it is a glitch from Apple.

    Hi Yogeshmanand,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your iPad isn’t able to download iOS 8 over the air. You’ll probably have better luck downloading the upgrade on another Wi-Fi network or using iTunes, as suggested in the article linked below.

  • Cannot connect to iTunes store on PC, unable to update iPad.

I've become increasingly frustrated with iTunes.  First I couldn't connect to the iPad server, which by the way I still can't.  I've read multiple threads in here.  I've changed DNS settings, turned off firewalls...all with no results!  I can't connect to the iTunes store.  I cannot connect to the iPad server which I have the suspicion that those two things are connected.  ALL I want to do is update my iPad!  Please any assistance would be most welcome I have hit a wall on this one.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect to your computer & click on the "Update your device using iTunes".
Tip - You may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. After you update to iOS 5.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Unable to update iPad 2 software and it's still in recovery mode.

I have been noting some weird behavior on my iPad 2 I so tried to update my iPad to to iOS 6.
Before doing it I tried to sync my apps to iTunes so I would not lose anything. I was unable to sync and a got a message that said "Unable to sync because the sync process faied to start". So to fix that I tried to download and install the iOS 6 update and the update fails due to a "corrupted download file please try again" message. Then I updated iTunes to the latest version and tried all the previous steps again producing the same results. In the process of doing this I somehow I got the iPad into recovery mode and I can't recover to orginal settings because install fails with the "corrupted download file pleas try again" message.
So, hear I sit with a disabled iPad and now apparent way of fixing it.
I am out of ideas on what to try next. Any suggestions what to do?
Also note I did this with my MacBool which is hard wired to  my network. No wifi connection was involved.

Are you getting an error of some kind when attemptign a restore? was the restore sucessful (broadcasted a message from itunes that it was complete)?

  • Unable to update ipad

I have this ipad for over a year and have not updated it. I am trying to update now and it just keeps staying synced to laptop backing up for hours without updating.
What am I doing wrong besides not doing this the whole time I have had ipad?

There have been some problems accessing pages on the Apple web site.  If the hyperlink gives you a "We're sorry" message, try again.

  • School principal unable to update iPads with Configutor.

I manage 120 ipads for my elementary school. Currently they are 120 bricks because they are all stuck in recovery mode. When trying to update with configurator, I get the following message.
Unable to restore device (ECID=38D88830D0F, Location=1A122700) with the firmware found at file:///Users/murphymac/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator/Data/Library/C aches/com.apple.configurator/UnpackedFirmware/iPad2,4_8.1.3_12B466_Restore.

This just happened after updating to 8.1.3 and I've been managing these for two years. Although I've had several problems, I've always worked through them through self taught measures. This has me stumped. I tried deleting that cached file, and then it wouldn't do anything, so I reinstalled it to its original location. Apple won't help me unless I pay the $29, which is angering since I paid nearly $50,000 for the ipads alone (without carts, Mac, etc.) Gee thanks.
    Sincerely,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
Has anything changed with your web filter? I've had problems in the past with restoring from Configurator when it couldn't properly communicate with Apple (I learned that our school district web filter was blocking some things that needed to be open). I've also seen a similar error when I accidentally had both iTunes and Configurator open... closing out of iTunes took care of it. Additionally you could try installing a different ipsw file by holding down the Option key while choosing Devices -> Edit Custom iOS Versions and importing a new ipsw file in case there is something wrong there.
    Hope one of these helps!

  • Unable to update iPad 1 to iOS 5.1

    Friends,
I was hoping someone would be able to help me with this issue as I have not been able to find a solution anywhere on these forums as of yet. I haven't even been able to find anyone else that has had this same issue for that matter.
I go into iTunes (version 10.6) to update my iPad 1 (currently version 4.3.1) and iTunes does indeed recognize that there is an update available as it states it right next to the "update" button as it normally would. The problem is everytime I click on "update," it refuses to update.  It simply opens up my Documents folder as if by magic the update would be in that folder.  It does the exact same thing when I click on the "restore" button.  So I can't restore or update the iPad.  My iPhone updated via iTunes with no problem.  I tried manually downloading the new iOS but that didn't work either (unless I did something wrong).
I called Apple Support and they had me uninstall iTunes and all of its components and then reinstall it.  That did nothing.
I will mention that I was able to factory wipe my iPad via a Mobile Device Management solution.  I thought restoring it to factory settings would fix the problem, but it did not.
Has anyone else had this problem?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

I actually attempted that as well after reading various troubleshooting articles.
Good news is I finally was able to update it just now (manually).  I found out that the download link I had been using for the new iOS was not actually the newest.  It was 5.0.
I typed in "iOS 5.1.1 direct download link" into Google and found the latest download link.  I clicked "save as" and added the .ipsw extension and saved it to my desktop.  I then went into iTunes, clicked "update" and found the file I had just downloaded and clicked on it.  That did it!  I can't believe all this time it was because I was not using the 5.1.1 direct download link.  Hopefully this helps someone else.
varjak, thank you so much for your help. It is truly appreciated.

  • Unable to update iPad to iOS 5.1.1 - Connection Error

I have been trying for months to update my iPad from 4.3.5 to 5.1.1.  Each time I try, I get the following error when it is downloading:
"There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad "[my iPad name here]".  The network connection timed out."
I am trying to download it through iTunes on my PC over an ethernet connection.  I have internet service for other applications and am able to connect to my Apple account and download iPad Apps successfully.  I one have this connection issue when trying to download the OS.
I have tried disabling the firewall and AV, but the result is the same.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Unable to update iPad Apps

Here's an interesting one.  I am trying to update my apps, but when I go in the App Store and click the "Updates" tab, I just get a blank white page.  The remainder of the App Store is operational, as is my iPad generally.  Any ideas?

Tis problem is on Apple's end and they need to fix it. Many people are having this problem for the last couple of days. According to Fly150 in another discussion, this will work.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
    1. Go to App Store
    2. Select Purchased
    3. Select All
    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
    5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store. This is a workaround only.
