When I click on update iPod, after a few seconds, a error message comes up sayin; "The iPod "my iPod" cannot be updated. An unknown error occured (-48)."
What is this, and how can I fix it?

Try these .. also make sure you have the newest versions of iTunes and iPod updater installed.
Is this a new iPod or has it been working for awhile now and stopped. If you just got the iPod make sure you operating system meets system requirements.

ITunes unable to update iPod (photo)

When I attempt to 'update ipod' itunes beings it's thing but, then reports that "the disk could not be read from or written to".
I do not belive that this is an iPod issue, more a software one.
I also noticed that whilst attempting to copy to the ipod, the .Mac sync (menu bar) icon is rotating. When I click 'Ok' on the warning dialogue box, the sync stops! also when I click on the sync icon it reports that it was last synced earlier this evening.
I have never noticed this before, but then I was never looking! Does anyone know about or encountered this before? and could this be responsible for itunes not updating my ipod??

u r so right on the fact why people like us end up wasting money on ipod PHOTO....i mean like, i bought the d**n thing just cuz it looks cool to have the album cover displayed while the songs played...n here i am having the exact same error -50 cr*p happening with the artwork updation....this is so royally pi**ing off....
I think its happened to me ever since i updated to itunes 4.8...just a hunch...i have gone hopelessly mad tryin to get my AA back on my ipod but to no avail....have tried all remedies on this forum. and i've got so much of songs on my 30gIpod n none of it on my library...so i can't even restore or take some of that kinda risk....

Unable to update Ipod mini / Computer not responding to Ipod

I recently switched computers and I installed the iPod mini software onto my new computer. This worked at first but when I started moving music from iTunes onto my iPod from my new computer, the downloads would stop even though the music had not been fully downloaded. When I checked my iPod, the new music was not there. I downloaded the new iTunes and the new updater. I then tried to update my iPod software but it said "Firmware failure" and then my iPod mini started showing me the exclamation mark folder every time I turned it on. I tried to restore the iPod using my new computer but everytime I tried to do that, it showed "Firmware failure." Next, I plugged my iPod mini into my old computer and used an old update program to restore the iPod and it worked. When I plugged the iPod back into my new computer, the computer would take a long time to recognize the player but iTunes wouldn'recognize it at all. When I try to update the ipod mini software, it shows initializing for a long time before the program crashes.
What should I do to get this ipod working again?

ok try this ...... this is the totally resetting things to do !!!!! first holthe center and the menu down when the apple comes then hold the center and the play down...... then it should be totally reset.... then install the new ipod updater and itunes 4.9 and then try if it works ...........

Unable to update ipod/s

I have two ipod touch (Plural?) and neither of them will update 4.2 for the 2nd gen 8gig itouch and 4.3.3 for the newest itouch (the one with the camera) 64 gig. Lately Ive been getting tired of them not being able to update through itunes current version. When I download the updates, it goes through the screens saying about the legal stuff and then downloads. When the download completes, it brings an error up saying the my network connection timed out. I don't know what to do, Ive tried Redownloading itunes for the 64bit version (Which my computer has the windows 64 bit version) and it still didnt work. im lost as to what to do.

Disable the security software on our computer. Rebooting your computer, router and modem may also help.

Unable to update iPod! Help

I have a 4th generation click wheel ipod with a PC. When I plug my ipod into my computer, the computer recognizes it but itunes and ipod updater won't recognize it. I have tried switching ports, reinstalling the latest software, talking to apple support on the phone for an hour and nothing works. The ipod makes a little clicking noise when it is "trying" to update but itunes never recognizes it. What is this a problem with? Should I send it in for service or just get a new one? Any ideas?

Error message when updating Ipod

I recently had to reinstall my operating system, so I also just reinstalled itunes and the ipod software (both with the latest versions from apple). but now, everytime I update my ipod it says "unable to update ipod. unexpected error occurred (-4)". All of the songs actually do update to my ipod, but I keep getting this error message. Does anyone know what it can mean? I have reformed my ipod, reinstalled the software...i've done everything the apple website has suggested, and i've now been working on it for hours. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I take it back....the songs aren't actually updating to the ipod....all the song names appear, but the songs will not play from the ipod. This is extremely frustrating!

TS3694 I have a Ipod touch 4G, and i am unable to update or restore it.

I have been unable to update or restore my Ipod touch to the 5.1, and 11.1 for my computer. each attempt to update has lead to the error report 3194. I'm not sure what it means or how to fix it. Please someone point me in the right direction to get this fixed.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

The last security update released for Tiger users was the 2009-005 update. The latest version of QuickTime is 7.6.4. The last version of iTunes that can run on Tiger is 9.2.1, because 10.0 only supports Mac OS X Leopard and later.
So, are you on version 9.2.1?
Was it Tiger or Leopard you had on the drive before?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.
