Updating AUR package jre 7-3 to 7u3-1 prior to pacman -Syu worked for me.
Ended up manually updating  jre 7-3 to 7u3-1 as packer said it was up to date.

  • [SOLVED] Why does jre7-openjdk-headless require a version bump?

    I'm attempting to update my system, and I get the following error.
    sudo pacman -Syu
    :: Starting full system upgrade...
    resolving dependencies...
    looking for inter-conflicts...
    :: jre7-openjdk-headless and jre7-openjdk-headless-infinality are in conflict. Remove jre7-openjdk-headless-infinality? [y/N]
    error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
    error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
    :: jre7-openjdk-headless and jre7-openjdk-headless-infinality are in conflict
    I presume pacman wants to remove jre7-openjdk-headless-infinality because it's 7.u65_2.5.1-3, while jre7-openjdk-headless is 7.u65_2.5.1-8. I presume jre7-openjdk-headless-infinality will be updated soon, and I won't get this error.
    However, I was interested in what exactly was requesting this version bump in the first place. I presume that it's a package that jre7-openjdk-headless-infinality is a dependency for. I looked firstly at what needed to be updated on my system, noting jre7-openjdk.
    $ pacman -Qu
    calibre 1.206.0-1
    device-mapper 2.02.108-1
    ffmpeg 1:2.3.1-1
    jdk7-openjdk 7.u65_2.5.1-3
    jre7-openjdk 7.u65_2.5.1-3
    lib32-krb5 1.12.1-2
    lvm2 2.02.108-1
    mesa-demos 8.2.0-1
    xf86-input-synaptics 1.8.0-2
    I had a look at the reverse dependencies for jre7-openjdk-headless-infinality, noting jre7-openjdk again.
    $ pacman -Qii jre7-openjdk-headless-infinality
    Provides : java-runtime-headless=7 jre7-openjdk-headless
    Depends On : libjpeg-turbo lcms2 nss ca-certificates-java
    Required By : jre7-openjdk
    Conflicts With : openjdk6 jre7-openjdk-headless jre7-openjdk-headless-fontfix
    I interpret that as pacman -Syu saying that jre7-openjdk needs an update, and this also depends on jre7-openjdk-headless-infinality. I double checked this.
    $ pacman -Qi jre7-openjdk
    Provides : java-runtime=7
    Depends On : jre7-openjdk-headless xdg-utils hicolor-icon-theme
    So I can see that jre7-openjdk actually depends on jre7-openjdk-headless, which can be provided by jre7-openjdk-headless-infinality (as above). However, I don't understand why a new version of jre7-openjdk requires a bump in version of jre7-openjdk-headless (or jre7-openjdk-headless-infinality). Have I misunderstood something?

    EDIT: actually, when testing the different "useSystemAAFontSettings" parameters I somehow missed "on" - that one does indeed work well enough with the arch java packages. I still prefer the "--enable-infinality=yes" version, but you can scrap my whining below - PEBCAK.
    Wikimig wrote:What I mean is: I think you don't even need Infinality patch (just like most of people using this package). I am pretty sure you can get to a nice clean look with official Arch Linux packages.
    I completely understand that the official package has to remove the infinality flag if it breaks (default) non-infinality setups - but:
    You should definitely give fontconfig-infinality a try (very easy to install thanks to bohoomil's bundle). In my experience it massively improves font rendering. However, the current java7-openjdk really does not work with it, there is no way to get a nice clean look. I tried all the AA settings, and they were all terrible.
    Best settings with vanilla java7
    Same settings with --enable-infinality
    It looks even worse in reality, but just zoom in all the way to the left upper corner and compare... these are some pretty sparkling rainbow fonts
    Again, unfortunate, but I rather rebuild from ABS with "--enable-infinality=yes" than drop infinality completely.

  • OSX: Adobe Creative Cloud unable to update (stall at 50%)

    Hey experts,
    ever since signing up for Creative Cloud I have been unable to update any application as my regular user on OSX. After exchanging 23 emails with the Adobe support in 2013 I finally gave up and created a workaround in the hope that the Adobe developers would finally look into the issue and fix the bug. With the last update of Creative Cloud my workaround stopped working so I took time to do a complete reinstallation of Creative Cloud to see if the bug was finally fixed. It was not.
    The bug:
    -Installation of Creative Cloud and Photoshop, Lightroom etc. through the Creative Cloud app works.
    -Any try to update a CC applicaton (e. g. Photoshop CC 2014 results in the state "waiting" at 50%):
    -Trying to update through the menu of Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 "Aktualisierungen"
    resulted in the following error message:
    Translation: "Update failed. Unable to apply updates. Adobe Application manager is already running. Close all instances of Adobe Application Manager before applying updates. etc."
    What I tried to resolve the problem:
    What did not work:
    -Complete reinstallation of Creative Cloud:
         -Uninstall of all Adobe applications
         -Ran the Adobe CC Cleaner tool
         -Eliminated every single *[Aa]dobe*-folder on my disk including my profile.
         -Reboot
         -Re-installation using a fresh CC download.
    -The common 1st-level-support acts of desperation:
         -Rebooting
         -Checking the file system
         -Fixing permissions
    -The bug even survived 2 OSX system upgrades
    -Even tried to track down the bug myself which I gave up after having discovered the endless chain of Creative Cloud and AAM-Processes executing each other...
    What worked:
    -Installing updates as another OSX user. (Which is cumbersome and to be honest I am unwilling to create a new profile and redoing the settings of all installed (especially non-Adobe) applications because of an Adobe bug...)
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Howver, my problem is when i am trying to complete the financial options, inventory organisation is mandatory for that responsability. Without inventory organisation i am unable to save the financial options.

  • I am unable to update my album art since I commenced using match (and after upgrading to Yosemite).  How can I 'unembed' old cover art and replace?

    I am unable to update my album art on my iMac since I started using Match (and after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.3).  A message advises that it's not possible to removed old artwork if it's embedded.  How can I 'unembed' old cover art and replace?

    Normally artwork recovered with iTunes is stored as a separate artwork file and iTunes refers to that file to display artwork when you click on a track.  However, if you then copy the file to another player the artwork file is left behind and the track will not display the artwork on the other player.  To get around this it is possible to embed the artwork in the music file itself so it always travels with the file.  Artwork can be embedded by you or files from third party sources may arrive with embedded artwork.  iTunes apparently now won't replace artwork for such files.  You can accomplish this by completely deleting artwork for a file or set of files in Get Info, then getting iTunes to fetch artwork which will then be set as a reference file rather than being embedded.
    I use an old iTunes so unless you are using an ancient iTunes it won't help for me to give you great details.  To erase artwork I simply get info on a series of files and check the box next to the artwork box without adding any artwork and close.  To do it for  single file I Get Info, go to the artwork display tab and click delete.  Here's a Windows reference for a newer iTunes (but the "old Get Info" reference is for early iTunes 12 and no longer works with newer):I cannot delete embedded album artwork in iTunes 12
