Unable to update Mac OS X 10.5.8, do a need to buy a new computer?
I have a Mac OS X 10.5.8 which is about 6 yrs. old. I am unable to update anything anymore including my browser, etc. Is there a way to update this computer or will I have to purchase another?
Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a PowerPC Mac, it's already running the newest OS it can.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, upgrade it as if it was a Core Duo Mac, and if desired, open the Mac App Store, and try downloading 10.9. If you get told it's incompatible, go to the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004. If you upgrade the OS, back up the computer first.

In order for me to take advantage of transferring files, music, docs I need a new mac 10.5 or later. My computer is 10.4.11. So in other words I need to buy a new computer? To be able to use icloud sufficiently?
Maybe, maybe not.
Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
For full iCloud you need 10.7 But the question really is, do you need all the things it does? I mean really? Oh, you don't mention if this question is in conjunction with some device you own. To whom and how are you transferring files? -

I am using Mac OS X 10.7.8 and want to update it to Mac OS X 10.8 . Do I need to buy this version or I can get it free??
There is no version 10.7.8 so we need to know what you are running.
10.8.5 costs money.
10.9.2 is free. Find out more at the App Store application. -
Is the retina display for the new mac book pro worth the extra cost? I'm buying a new mac book pro but not sure about the retina display.

The MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Converter allows you to use the MagSafe connector on your LED Cinema Display, Thunderbolt Display, or MagSafe Power Adapter to charge your MagSafe 2-equipped Mac computer.
For battery life, check the latest Software Update for the fix for most problems. -
Hi we have apple credentials for downloading OS and creating Provisioning profiles. Now we are trying to upgrade the Mac OS 10.7.3 version. do we need should buy this version from appStore. or can it be download from the apple site for free? Many thanks in advance!
Whether you need to buy Mac OS X 10.7.3 depends on what version of OS X you have now.
If you have OS X 10.6.x or lower it is a paid upgrade from the Mac AppStore.
If you have OS X 10.7.x it is a free upgrade you get using Software Update on your Mac. -
I just updated to OS10.5.8
Now iDVD doesn't open...I get a message that says you can't use IDVD with this version of Mac OS X ?
Do I need to buy a new version of iDVD?You'll need iDvd V6 or higher to work with 10.5 Leopard. iLife 06 has iDVD V6 and iLife 08 and 09 have iDvd V7 which will work with Leopard. Note iLife 08 and 09 start to have Intel requirements to run some programs. One source for older, unopened Apple software is http://www.hardcoremac.com

You could with more RAM & enough fre Disk s[ace update to 10.6, 10.7, 10.8, or the free 10.9, but first you need get 10.6 to go further, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.7, 10.8, or 10.9 Installer.

Do I need to buy a new printer, dedicated for my Mac or can I use the same one we use for our PCs?
Hello stacksofamber and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
You should be able to find a Mac OSX driver for that printer. Did you check with the manufacturer/'s website? -
I am thinking of changing from a PC to a Mac. Will I need to buy a new, Apple compatible, version of Lightroom, or can I upgrade to it, or can I get it free as I've paid for the PC version?
Your licence is not platform specific, so Lightroom can be used on any two machines (Mac and/or WIndows), with one actually being used at any given time.
So no, you're money's safe! -

Switching from Mac to Windows. Do I need to buy a new Ps?
Hello there,
Since I'm planning on buying the Wacom Companion for being able to work on-the-go, I was wondering if I also needed to buy a new version of Photoshop.
I bought Photoshop CS 5 for Mac a few years back and don't really need a newer version. But at my Downloads page I can only find the option to download Photoshop for Mac and not Windows. Shouldn't I be able to download a Windows version as well or do I really have to spend another couple of hundred bucks on a new CS 6? That would blow immensely.
Kind regards,
Hans$200 to upgrade and costs nothing to change to a Mac license.

Hi I've got Mac OS X 10.5.8 Do i need to buy first Mac OS X 10.6 to get the OS X Lion ? thanks
Yes you do. Check the requirements here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/how-to-buy/
Also, Macworld.com has a lot of information on installing, including the things to do so it goes smoothly. Some of the people having install issues haven't done these steps. Although they may be more preventative, it's a safe way to get things done. -
I am using an I-mac series 4 with a 2GHZ processor, I tried to convert to Lion and the rresponse was the chip was not fast enough, can I upgrade the chip or do I need to purchase a new computer?
Unfortunately yes, but Snow Leopard is still a great OS in the meantime so don't rush in too quick if you really don't need to.
Good Luck
Pete
