Unable to upgrade or uninstall iTunes (Bonjour issue, it seems)

Attempting to install the latest version of iTunes on Windows 7 64-bit, I get the following error:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii40/shane256/first-error.png
So I navigate down to where the file is:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii40/shane256/file-browser.png
and select the msi there and get this:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii40/shane256/Untitled.png
After searching around on the 'net, I found some information and ran the MSIs by hand, including a log of an attempt at removal and got this:
Action start 20:15:03: RemoveExistingProducts.
RemoveExistingProducts: Application: {877924AA-E044-4266-B37D-E974CD799934}, Command line: UPGRADINGPRODUCTCODE={C19D4D8F-4433-4F6D-9F0C-79589FD0B973} CLIENTUILEVEL=0 REMOVE=ALL
CustomAction returned actual error code 1612 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
Error 1714. The older version of Bonjour cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group. System Error 1612.
MSI (s) (14:D8) [20:15:27:209]: Product: Bonjour -- Error 1714. The older version of Bonjour cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group. System Error 1612.
If I try to remove iTunes using Add/Remove software, it tells me that it isn't installed. If I try to install using the update, it can't remove Bonjour. I can't remove Bonjour using Add/Remove, either. I've tried to find a package from the version that's installed (9.1.0.79) to see if that will help but I can't find any but the latest version.
So, my iTunes installation is currently dead in the water. Any ideas?

I tried... and this is what happened...
I first started installing iTunes to see what registry key it would give me. It gave me this:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii40/shane256/first-key-2010-06-26.png
So using that other post, I followed the directions in the images. I eventually found the key and tried to open the Permissions and got this:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii40/shane256/no-permissions.png
I clicked "OK" since it said it would let me edit it anyway. This is what I saw:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii40/shane256/no-users.png
No users at all... so I added Administrators for the local machine and set to full control:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii40/shane256/full-control.png
Then click Apply but get this:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii40/shane256/access-denied.png
So I can't modify the permissions.
I get the same error trying to open every key underneath there (inside the red box):
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii40/shane256/all-keys.png
What registry keys are those? Can I delete them and iTunes reinstall them?

  • Unable to upgrade or uninstall Itunes 9.0.6

I am having trouble with trying to update ITunes. I keep getting the error "The Older version of "*****" cannot be removed contact your technical support group... Same message for Quick time, Bonjour, ITunes, etc. Unable to uninstall the program from control panel as well. I even deleted the actual folders "Quick Time", "ITunes", "Bonjour", etc and have downloaded the updates and the whole install file "iTunesSetup.exe" and none will do an install for me. I also keep getting the message "(The file 'c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Apple Software Update\AppleApplicationSupport.msa' is not a valid installation package for the product Apple Application Support. Try to find the installation package 'AppleApplicationSupport.msi' in a folder from which you can install Apple Application Support.)" Even though the files are all fresh downloads and even tried then from different locations on my hard drive. Is there an Uninstaller file I can get from Apple to remove ITunes entirely so I can attempt a clean install of the program?

  • Cannot install iTunes on my Win7Pro PC for several months after a long time w/o problems. Uninstalled iTunes Bonjour with no improvement.  Help?

Since October 2011 I cannot update iTunes when I receive an Apple UD notice (Win7Pro PC).  I have also lost communication with my iPod Touch.  In all cases I have attempted to download the latest version of iTunes.  Yeasterday I uninstalled iTunes & Bonjour.  I still cannot install iTunes.  What can be done to allow iTunes to install?

If you want to do complete reinstall, please follow following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • Unable to Upgrade to new itunes-can't update music on ipods

When I try to upgrade my windows32 to the new 10.6 itunes after it runs through the calculations I receive the following message:
There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package.
A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.
Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
I have defragged and checked/repaired errors and tried again with the same result.
I am unable to make changes to ipods because it states it needs the upgraded itunes.
    Thank you.

I suspect you missed out a step in the transfer process somewhere that was designed to avoid this situation...
The exclamation mark shows if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .
Ctrl-click on an empty check box will check them all...

  • Unable to upgrade nor uninstall due to network resource being unavailable..

    Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade iTunes and I received this...
    http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/3173/itunesbq2.jpg
I also receive it when trying to uninstall it. I tried manually removing it too, which proved unsuccessful. How do I fix this?
I can't find "iTunes.msi" anywhere on my hard drive.

    http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/3173/itunesbq2.jpg
with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

  • Problem Updating ITunes (Bonjour Issue)

So, I just bought a new Ipod Touch, and need to update my Itunes to the latest version in order to sync my music. However, when I try to do this, I get this message:
“The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package ‘Bonjour.msi’ in the box below.”
Problem is, there is no “Bonjour.msi” anywhere on my computer, however it still says Bonjour is installed on my computer. I get this same message when trying to uninstall Bonjour or download itunes off the apple site. Can anyone help? Thanks.
Oh, one more thing. I have seen on other sites that the "Windows Installer Cleanup Tool" is supposed to fix it, however I cannot download it as I have Vista, and the tool only fixes windows up to XP. (i've tried downloading it a few times and getting error messages each time)

What error message are you getting on your CleanUp install, sachs?
If it's an 800A0046, try the "Run as administrator procedure from the following document:
[Error "800A0046 - Permission Denied" when installing the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility in Windows Vista|http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/170/1/Error-800A0046---Permission-D enied-when-installing-the-Windows-Installer-Cleanup-Utility-in-Windows-Vista.htm l]
If it's a different error message, let us know what it says.

Hi I just upgraded software through iTunes then unplugged iPhone now it is stuck on the connect to intunes screen, it won't turn off and iTunes and my computer won't recognize my phone? Please help

My phone is doing the same thing. My computer acknowledges that I have connected my iPhone 4, however, iTunes will no longer connect or sync to my iPhone 4. I have uninstalled iTunes, Bonjour and all Apple products from my pc. I have re-installed them back on. I have reset my phone. I have emptied my temp folder. I have done everything. If my iPhone cannot update and sync with iTunes then I may as well get another phone from somewhere else. I am disappointed that I cannot resolve this issue.
Rebeccaspe31, were you able to resolve your issue? If so how?
