Unable to upgrade to ios 4
I have a 2nd gen iPod touch with 3.1.3 installed.
On the summary screen, next to the Update button, it tells me a newer version (4.2) is available.
But when I press the Update button, I get "This version of iTunes (9.2.1) is the current version."
How can I update the iPod?
Try reinstalling iTunes.

Hi everybody,
I have an iPad first generation, and I was never able to upgrade to IOs 5.x. Today I made the last try with the latest IOs 5.1.1.
The result is always an error 6, with both the upgrade and the restore option inside iTunes.
I'm using iTunes on a Windows 7 PC. iTunes is updated to the latest version.
I already tried to restore the iPad on: Windows XP SP3, Apple Mac Book pro and on an iMac on which other upgrades on the same firmware on first generation iPads went fine, but on mine always failed with the same error 6 from iTunes.
Making these tries I used both my apple ID and those for other people with which the restore went right on their iPads.
I tired to call Apple support, but it seems that the only way to make them analyze things is to take a date with Apple Genius on an official Store. My problem is that the nearest one is at over 300 KM from my home :-(
Has anyone experienced same behavior or can give an hint?

MassyThis is honestly a WAG but try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
As a last resort (at least, the last resort that I can think of), let the battery drain completely. This is comparable to the old days of removing electrical power. Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again. -

Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3014, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service -
Have been trying since last year to update, tried several suggestions in these posts, nothing has worked. I changed the dns to 8's, reset everything. My IPad is no longer under warranty so I can't get any assistance from apple. Has apple come up with a solution to this problem, which appears to be affecting lots of users?
You cannot upgrade an iPad 2 to iOS 5...you must go to the latest version, iOS 6.1.2 as iOS 5 is no longer available for that iPad.
Upgrading must be done from iOS 4 using a connection to iTunes on a computer. -

That's correct. You are unable to upgrade an iPhone 3G to iOS 5. You are unable to upgrade the iOS past 4.2.1.

Unable to play some movies from Netflix on my iPad. When I click on a movie an error message comes up "Cannot play movie. Please try again later." I contacted Netflix but have not been able the help so I am wondering if it's my iPad. I didn't have a problem before but I have recently upgraded to iOS 7.1. I have an iPad 2 16GB with iOS 7.0.3 and Netflix version 5.0.2. I cannot watch netflix on an External LCD monitor that I have through VGA out. I use bluetooth speakers, so the AirPlay is going to that for Audio. Before this update, this combo worked without an issue.
So as of Friday Nov. 8/2013, I contacted Netflix support, and they said they fixed the problem on their end, and the fix is on the Apple side of things, and to contact Apple support.
So, I contacted Apple support, and the first person I spoke to said I would have to agree to pay a $35 fee for 30 days of support to this problem since my unit is out of warranty. I said this isn't a hardware issue, it's a software issue, and I'm not willing to pay to fix a problem you created. So I got a Senior Level advisor on the line, and she was helpful, and she's looking into the issue for me and said she'll contact me sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday (Nov. 12 or 13) to let me know of the issue.
Here's the thing: this is a combination of Netflix and iOS not working correctly with any of the Apple Authorized Dongles. This is truly a code error that some hot shot programmer had major oversight on, and their management didn't catch it either. There was no reason for Netflix to rush to get this Netflix update going until Apple sorted out the bugs in iOS 7.
Anyway, if I hear anything from Donna (the advisor), I'll post it and let you guys know. In the mean time, good luck! -

No one here can help you, nor can/will Apple, and since none of the carriers in Egypt offer official unlocking, your choices are not good. -

I have had the same problem as yours on my Ipad after upgraded Procreate 2.01. My iOS is 7.04. I tried to find solution from internet for weeks. Fortunately, the problem was resolved a few minutes ago. It is very simple,
1. Lunch outlook.com to confirm you can access hotmail mailbox. It means your account is Ok.
2. Go to setting>Mail,Contacts,Calendars.Delete your hotmail account from your device.(my device is Ipad)
3. Turn off your device, then turn on again.
4. Go to setting>Mail,Contacts,Calendars and create your hotmail account by tap outlook.com. Be sure the incoming mail server is pop3.live.com.
5. Waiting for validation.

Unable to connect to the MS Exchange server after upgrading to ios 7.1.2
I received a new iPad 4 through work. Upgraded to ios 7.1.2, but now I'm not able to connect to the Exchange server. Contacted IT through work, they have no idea how to correct it. They say all of my settings are fine. The error message says "Cannot Get Mail The connection to the server failed." Any thoughts?
Appears to be a wifi connection problem. Did it work prior to the iOS update?
Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Since it's a company wifi, you won't be able to do many of these.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

There really should be a toggle in the cellular menu to switch between LTE, 3G & 2G. Carriers in some parts of the world may well be switching off the 2G service, but that doesn't apply to everyone & certainly not where I am in the UK.
I spoke to AppleCare about my problem last month, but they were unfortunately quite hopeless, not knowing that the easiest way for me to recover my original carrier settings in iOS 6.0.2, would have been for me to carry out a full reset & restore from a backup. :(
I did too pass on my annoyance with the inability to switch back to 2G, should I want to, after an over-the-air carrier settings update has taken place & has subsequently replaced the 3G toggle with the LTE toggle.
I have also completed the feedback form some weeks ago. I hope others having this same issue will do this too:

Hopefully, Apple may bother to actually take some notice of this problem, which will now affect a lot of iPhone 5 users.
The next iOS update will hopefully include the ability to override a carrier settings update & falling back to a 2G signal, should users want to, or need to, particularly in order to reduce the strain on the battery.
Until such an update is released, I'm sticking to iOS 6.0.2 :( -
