Unable to upgrade to itunes 7

I haven't used the music store for some time, but when I tried to use it today I got the message that I cannot purchase music until I upgrade to itunes 7. I get a page with an "upgrade" button but nothing at all happens, not even a staus bar or error message, when I click on it. Nothing happens when I try "support" on the homepage either. I don't mind not upgrading, if it were possible to still purchase music with the old version! I have tried disabling the firewall and antivirus but not being very computer minded thats about the limit of my capabilities. It diidn't make any difference by the way.
Any suggestions?

This kind of thing can happen when you have a problem with registry key permissions.
Presumably you are using an administrator account, but was iTunes originally installed from another account?
But many people have got round this problem by repairing registry permissions using the method in the following article. The process is reasonably straight forward but a little involved so read it carefully first.

  • HT4972 No matter which of your confusing directions I try to follow, I am unable to upgrade my iTunes to the latest version which "must be done" prior to upgrading my iPad 2 to IOS 5.  PLEASE HELP!!

Please help me to upgrade latest iTunes version so then I can upgrade to iOS 5 or 6. I have an iPad 2. Thank you.

You need to update iTunes on your computer (not the iPad) to the latest version in order to then update the iPad to iOS 5.1.1 (iOS 6 isn't released until the Autumn) - you can check if you are up-to-date (which will prompt you to update if you aren't) via, on a PC, 'Help > Check For Updates', and on a Mac 'iTunes > Check For Updates'
When you have that installed, connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases (you may also want to copy photos off the iPad as well) and then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'. You may also want to copy off the iPad any important documents, notes, files etc e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case.
You can then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button.

  • Unable to upgrade to itunes 6

Hey, whenever I try to buy music from itunes, it says I need to upgrade to itunes 6 first. When I click the FREE UPGRADE button, it flashes, but no upgrade process begins. I've tried getting the upgrade via Help>check for itunes updates, but that won't work either.

    hi samedan!
okay, let's try going directly to the download page first:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
... and (just in case) if you see a blank blue box to the left of the the page, see the following document:
iTunes download button isn't visible on the Download webpage

  • Unable to upgrade to itunes plus. What's wrong???

Virtually all of the songs I've tried to buy in the last few weeks require an upgrade to itunes 7.2 or higher to download. I am currently using 7.0.
When I click the icon to "upgrade" it takes me to a screen that explains itunes plus and an icon that says "free upgrade". I click the "free upgrade" icon and nothing happens. What's wrong?

Have you tried downloading the latest iTunes (7.6) directly from:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Then installing from the downloaded file.
If you are having trouble getting the download to work, try:
    http://filehippo.com/download_itunes/
If you can download the update but you are having trouble getting it to work post any error messages.

  • Unable to upgrade to iTunes 10.0.1

Software Update tells me there's a new version of iTunes (iTunes 10.0.1) and tells me to upgrade.
If I try to do so, I get this error :
The update "iTunes" can't be installed.
The file “AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg” couldn’t be found on the server “swcdn.apple.com”.
Seems like Apple has withdrawn the 10.0.1-update from it's servers...
    is that true ?
Or is something wrong on my Mac ?
    Anyone any ideas ?
    Thanks !

    sorry...
...that turns out to be impossible...
I get the iTunes-webpage correctly, but when I click Download (and Accept the iTunes rules), the page tries to refresh and hangs...
    ...nothing is being downloaded...
    ...this is a server-side problem isn't it ?
    Thanks !

  • Unable to upgrade to iTunes 9.2 - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

I am trying to upgrade iTunes from 9.1.1.11 to 9.2, but when I ran the Apple software update program, it failed, returning an error about Quicktime. I got a similar message when I tried using the installer from Apple's website, and it returned the error "Error getting file security: C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\Quicktime 7.66.71.0\ GetLastError: 5". On the support site, I read I should delete the contents of my user\AppData\Temp folder, so I did, and still no dice.
    What is going on?

I tried several things to fix this exact same error. I even tried in safe mode, and in selective startup using msconfig. The way I finally fixed this problem was to delete the folder C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\Quicktime and then run the installer again. All went well.

  • Unable to upgrade to itunes 10.7 for Windows (64-bit)

I just got two Iphones 4s.  I need to upgrade my computer to itunes 10.7, but everytime I try I get this error message.
What am I doing wrong?  And what needs to be done to correct this problem.
    I am using Windows Vista.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get aCode 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    Hi iTunes-1,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The error message you posted indicates a possible firmware update is needed for iTunes for Windows to work with your CD drive.
iTunes for Windows: Updating the firmware on your CD or DVD drive - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201852
Having outdated firmware can cause issues using CDs and DVDs with iTunes for Windows. Firmware is a type of software stored in a chip in hardware that can sometimes be updated.Identifying drives and firmware versions
To run CD Diagnostics, follow the steps in this document.
After following the steps to run CD Diagnostics linked above, look at section three to find out more about your optical drive(s).
Here is an example of what section three might look like:
In this example there are two drives. Drive E is a Samsung DVD-ROM drive with a model designation of SD-616 that has firmware version F000. Drive F is an NEC drive with a model designation of NR-7900A that has firmware version 1.08.Updating the firmware
If the optical drive you are using came with your computer, check with the support site for your computer for a firmware update. Typically you will need to go to the support website for the computer maker and click on a "downloads" or "updates" link, and then enter your computer model designation and operating system version to see what updates are available. Then look through the available updates for a firmware update for your optical drive. Download the updater and run it. If you need assistance applying the update, contact the maker of your computer.
If the optical drive you are using came as a separate part (was not included with a computer), check the support site for the drive maker for a firmware update. Sometimes the manufacturer is not clear in the CD Diagnostics results. In that case, you may just have to search the Internet for the drive model designation. You can usually find out who made the drive by looking through the results of such a search. Once you have identified who made your drive, go to the support website for that company. Look for a "downloads" or "updates" link, and then enter your optical drive model designation. Download the updater and run it. If you need assistance applying the update, contact the maker of the optical drive.Verifying that the firmware was updated
    Run CD Diagnostics again.
Examine the CD Diagnostics results. The firmware version for the drive should be the new version.

Also, you mentioned that you have been successful burning a CD with the Windows OS.  Make sure that you have closed all software programs that can access the CD burner so that there isn't a conflict for the drive.   Sometimes chaning the burn speed from "maximum" to 8x can also help in this situation.
I hope this information helps ...

Ever since upgrading to iTunes 7.0.1 from 6.x I have been unable to update my iPod. (60Gb with Video). It says on inserting my iPod a new version is available (1.2) from 1.1.2

  • After upgrading to iTunes 9.2, unable to type in text/search fields

    Hi,
After upgrading to iTunes 9.2, I am unable to type into text or search fields within iTunes.
Haven't tried all fields, but I've seen it in both search in iTunes and the iTunes store, and also trying to create folders on my iPhone (through iTunes only, it works fine on the phone).
Anyone else seen this or have an idea for a fix?
    Thanks...

I'm wondering if you figured out this problem. I'm having the exact same issue, which means I can't even log in to my iTunes account. I've even tried uninstalling it and reverting to iTunes 9.1.1, which then won't even open.

I have a desktop mac operating on Mac OSx 10.4.11 and the system does not recognize my iphone and I am unable to upgrade to the newest itunes version. What do I need to do?

    Backup first
It is always best to have a full bootable backup before you upgrade. If you fail to do this you will be unable to return to this OS if you decide you don't like the new OS. Also there is a slight chance that an install could lose everything on the Mac. The backup must be to an external hard disk. Preferably use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable backup of the whole disk.
    Erase before the install
Once you have a bootable backup on an external disk it is best to erase the internal disk with the new installer DVD before you install.
    During the install
Preferably do not import any data or preferences from earlier OSs during the install process as this can reintroduce bugs.
    OS numbers and names
    OS X 10.4.x - Tiger
    OS X 10.5.x - Leopard
    OS X 10.6.x - Snow Leopard
    OS X 10.7.x - Lion
    OS X 10.8.x - Mountain Lion
    More about Macs
The Apple History site has specifications for every Mac ever produced: http://www.apple-history.com/
    Upgrade to Leopard
Those wishing to upgrade to Leopard should be aware that install disks can be expensive unless you contact Apple. Details: http://lowendmac.com/deals/best-os-x-leopard-prices.html Standard Leopard installers impose several hardware limitations including speed and RAM size but all these restrictions can be overcome. Google for details. Leopard works well at 500 MHz with 1 GB of RAM and many happy users have less than this.
    Upgrade beyond Leopard
OSs beyond OS X 10.5.8 require an Intel processor. If in doubt check this: Click the apple at the top left of your screen and select 'About this Mac'. This will give you your OS number. Then click 'More Info' to see which processor you have. If it says PowerPC you cannot upgrade to Snow Leopard and above. If you have an Intel Mac it is well worth upgrading to Snow Leopard now and then considering other options after that. You can buy Snow Leopard here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A
    Upgrade beyond Snow Leopard
Information about upgrading Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD256Z/A
    Important
Check that your Mac complies with any requirements. If you are not in the US you should use the Change Country link at the bottom of Apple pages.

  • I have a Macbook with OS X 10.5.8. I am unable to use my iPhone with the iOS 6 upgrade on iTunes.

I have a Macbook with OS X 10.5.8. I am unable to use my iPhone with the iOS 6 upgrade on iTunes.  Apparently I cannot downgrade to iOS 5 on my iPhone. Please tell me I don't have to pay anything to be able to use my products......

    Which version of iTunes?
    iTunes 10.6.3 - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1575
Unless this is a new iPhone 5 I believe the older ones will work with iOS6 and iTunes 10.6.3.  If it won't, you will need to upgrade operating system version.

  • Unable to upgrade ITunes - Error 2330

Has anyone received this error 2330? I can no longer use my Itunes icon and am unable to upgrade itunes.
    Thanks.

Has anyone received this error 2330?
That one is usually caused by a damaged program file, or disk damage in the vicinity of that file.
A 2330 error message usually cites a specific file and the file path of that file, including the drive that the file is stored on. Try running a chkdsk over the drive with the drive letter mentioned in the 2330 message.
