Unable to use an image in a DVD menu background

I've been unsuccessful in using an image as the background in the DVD main menu in PE 9.  The image shows up correctly in the preview, but not in the burned DVD.  I'm a long time user of PE 2.0 and never had this issue.  I've tried different image sizes (720x486, 720x480, 640x480), different image formats (jpg, bmp, psd), and different menu templates with no success.  The only thing that worked was specifying a frame out of the video.  Please help so I don't create any more drink coasters!

Barry,
Welcome to the forum.
This appears to be a Bug in PrE 9, and there are several threads on the same issue. It seems that some Menu Sets perform OK, some will not accept a new background image, and some will accept it for either the Main, or the Scene Selection Menu, but not both.
I'll find a few of those, and link to this thread, for your reading. In the meantime, I would suggest filing a Bug Report with Adobe, so that they will know to work on correcting this problem.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Image resolution in DVD menu

I created an image, with text, for a background image on the DVD menu. The image quality was 300 dpi. When the disc was finished burning, I put it back in my macbook to test it out. The text in the background image was very blurry... Maybe should have used a better resolution than 300 dpi? Does anyone know what I should do?

    Hi
The problem You see - has nothing to do with whether You use 200ppi or 100ppi photos
BUT the advices are very GOOD !
BUT - THIS is due to DVD-Standard - There are no High Definition DVD Quality
just standard and as Old CRT-TVs
Your Mac screen are much more supperior ! Say about 10 times or more.
So put Your DVD into a Stand-alone DVD-player and watch it on a standard TV
    and You see the quality.
If You need more then either
    • Take the Blu-Ray road (program,burner,BD-disks and Player)
    • Or connect Your Mac to a big flat screen TV or HD-Projector and enjoy
the full quality of Your work
    • In some cases - Copy back to Camera and use this to Playback - also is a way that works
*AND - The most important info !*
iMovie'08 & 09 - are not designed to do DVDs from. They both discards every second line in the picture
due to their way of handling interlaced video.
Resulting in a quality less than VHS-VCR tape material
*iMovie up to version HD6 and FinalCut any version - Handles this without any loss of quality*

  • PE3 DVD Menu Background video quality

    Hi,
I'm creating a video for DVD and have got a 15 second AVI file I am using for the DVD menu background.
I've added it in the Create DVD section and it all works fine. However, when I view the created DVD the quality of the menu video is horrible. Lots of compression artifacts.
When I look at the VIDEO_TS folder the VOB file for the menu is about 6Mb.
If I create a movie using the same 15 second AVI as the main movie (and no DVD title) then the SAME 15 second AVI becomes a 15Mb VOB file and looks much better.
    a) Why is PE3 using such low quality when compressing video files to use as DVD menu backgrounds?
    b) Is it possible to override it and make it use the same quality it uses for the main movie?
    Many thanks,
    Chris
PS I'm using Premiere Elements 3.02 on Windows XP.

    Hi Steve,
The 15 second DVD menu background AVI was created in Premiere Elements in a separate project. I created some Titles with Motion paths, layered them and then added some music.
I then used File->Export->Movie... to save it as a Microsoft DV AVI which I then imported into the main movie project.
I then selected Create DVD and dragged the movie into the Menu Background place.
The project seems to work fine. The only issue is that the generated VOB for the menu is only 6Mb and very poor quality whereas if I create a DVD from the separate project where I created the 15 second title movie the same movie clip becomes a 15Mb clip (and hence 2-3x the visual quality too).
Note that the rest of the movie is fine. It's just the menu background that appears to have been badly compressed.

  • Unable To Use DVDSP4 Presets for HD-DVD in the H.264 Format

I recently prepared a 23 minute slide show using Fotomagico from high resolution Hasselblad slides scanned in at 1200 dpi. Within Fotomagico I rendered the Fotomagico slide show to Apple ProRes 422 HQ, took it into Final Cut Pro 6.03 and added an intro and closing section. I then sent this to Compressor and selected the 30 minute HD-DVD preset which uses mpeg2. All went fine with the encoding to mpeg2 and I got a successful build and format out of DVDSP4 after importing the resulting .m2v file into DVDSP4. However, while the disk plays back fine in my Mac Pro it plays back with stuttering (audio and video) on my Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player. I used a Verbatim Datalife DVD+R, but several other discs from other manufactuers including a DVD-R disc showed the same problem.
Please note that I have the latest firmware on my Toshiba HD-A2 and I have successfully burned RL HD-DVD discs using my PC and Windows software (Ulead's DVD Movie Factory 6+) which play fine without stuttering on my HD-A2.
I then decided to send the project to Compressor and use the 60 minute HD-DVD preset that encodes to H.264. Once again Compressor successfully executed the encode of my 23 minute slide show and it plays fine in QuickTime or MPEG StreamClip. However, every time I try and import this .mov file encoded in H.264 using the Compressor preset for HD-DVD into DVDSP4, DVDSP4 brings it in to the assets folder, but after a couple of seconds DVDSP4 crashes. Using console I get a message that DVDSP4 quit unexpectedly due to a "segmentation fault".
I also tried to take the ProRes Fotomagic project in Final Cut Pro 6.02 and send it out with Quicktime Conversion using the H.264 codec. Again I have a file that plays fine in QT, but when I try and import this .mov file into DVDSP4, I get the message "imcompatible format".
In summary, I am completely frustrated after many many hours of work at trying to prepare an HD-DVD on red laser of my slide show in DVDSP4. I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong, and I would be most appreciative of any suggestions anyone may have.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tom

Am I the only person who has ever tried to use the Presets in Compressor 3 for encoding HD-DVD disks? I would like to use these presets for burning HD-DVD's to standard red laser media as I have done on my PC. With the mpeg2 Preset I can get nothing but stuttering video when played back on my Toshiba HD-A2 and when I use Compressor 3 to encode with either of the H264 presets, the resulting .mov file causes DVDSP4 to crash when I import the file. Has no one else experienced this? Does anyone have any thoughts on addressing these issues other than to go back to working on my PC?

  • Trouble position image in share DVD menu option

Anyone having trouble getting an image to fit on the share DVD option menu page. Does not usual apple mask to edit and position image. Spent many hours trying to get my image which contains text not to be cut off. There seems to be no guidance on what the image size should be.
    Thanks in advance,
    Susan

It is a little confusing... but anything white will be interpreted as transparent.
Make the text in photoshop a different colour, and use the colour mapping tools in DVDSP to get it to look white in the normal state. You can then change the color to be anything else in the different states.
For example, if your menu background has white text as part of the background image, and your overlay has red text created in photoshop that sits directly on top of the white text, it will still show as white in DVDSP until you change the mapping. Draw a button rectangle over the text, make sure the button is selected and look in the property inspector, in the colours tab.
Set the overlay style to be 'Advanced' and the mapping type to 'Chroma'. You'll see a black, red blue and white colour control. Set the button to be 'Normal' and move all of the sliders to the left. Set it to be 'Selected' and move the red slider all the way to the right. Make sure that the dropdown box next to the red slider is also showing red in it. What this is saying is "In the red channel, use red as the colour, and make it fully opaque". Of course, you can swap the red for any other colour in the dropdown. For the 'Activated' state this is exactly what you need to do - leave the red slider on the right, but change the colour in the drop down to be what you want when the button is activated - perhaps yellow, for example.
You should now have no problem making the buttons change colour as you want.

  • Image Stretched in DVD Menu

    Hey!
I'm having some issues with an image I made for the DVD menu. I created an image in Illustrator (720 x 480), saved it as a JPEG maximum quality and imported it into DVD Studio Pro. The DVD is in SD and is dimensions are (720 x 480). However, when I import the jpeg, the image is vertically stretched.
Does anyone know why this is happening? The dimensions I created the image in is the same as the dimensions of the DVD. Why would my image be stretched?
    Thanks for the help!

    Thanks Drew!
That Tiff suggestion brought me one step closer. The photo isn't stretched or squished anymore!
However, I'm still experiencing some issues.
So the DVD menu's display mode is set for 4:3 and the resolution is 720 x 480
The actual m2v video track's aspect ratio is also 4:3 and the resolution is 720 x 480
Once I import the Tiff file, the file's properties that show up in the window say
    Format: Quicktime Picture
    Width: 720
    Height: 480
    Layers: 0
I'm not sure what Quicktime Picture means but I'm sure it's irrelevant. What I'm getting to is, the size of the tiff is 720 x 480. However, when I put it into the dvd menu, the image is not squished or stretched but it doesn't fill up the whole screen. There's about (estimating) roughly 25 pixels of whitespace above and 25 px below the image. The image is centred on the DVD menu, but it doesnt fill up the whole screen.
When I simulate the DVD and hit the play button, once the video plays, it fills up the whole screen.
I don't understand why the Tiff doesn't fill up the whole DVD menu screen even though it is 720x480 and the DVD menu's properties are 4:3 and 720x480.
Do you have any other suggestions of what I can do?
    Thanks a lot!

  • Premiere Elements 9 - unable to select a "poster frame" for DVD Menu - Scene Selection

I've tried a number of different DVD menu themes and the problem is the same for all.  The Scene Selections don't seem to provide any way to include a graphic for the poster frame.  Have been able to provide a menu background with no problem.  Interestingly, the poster frame section of the menu edit fields appears to be somewhat truncated (the spot where you would expect the "drag media here" shows only the bottom portion of a box with no wording and the input is truncated at 00;00;0 with the fifth zero partially cut off.
Any one else seen this?  I know I've provided graphics for the scene buttons in the past but cannot seem to get past this situation this time.
    Thanks

In Adobe Encore (the authoring program, included with PrPro), one can set the Poster Frame for non-Motion Thumbnails.
For showing a different Clip, in Motion Thumbnails, one must create Menus, that have a Video background, that just looks like it has Motion Thumbnails - they are actually PiP in the Video background.
I do not know about the often touted Sony DVD Architect, regarding setting Poster Frames.
PrE's authoring control is a bit limited, and is designed to get the "average" Project authored, with few navigational bells and whistles.

  • DVD menu background not working in some players only

I put together a DVD in DVDSP 3 which works fine on most players. However on some players the menu backgrounds are grey instead of the graphic that should be there, and the buttons all say "Introduction" instead of having the proper titles. The first Main Menu looks fine and works properly. But the other menus don't show the background images at all.
I've tried using JPG, TIF and MPEG-2 files for the backgrounds on those menus, but none of those file formats works. The buttons all function properly and go to the correct targets, but the button text is the same wrong text on all the buttons. Also, the transitions work fine. And the tracks all play fine. It's just the non-Main menus that have the problem, and only on some DVD Players.
The specific players that have the problem are the Sony DVP-NS55P and the Philips DVP3140, both set top players.
Has anyone seen this type of behavior? And fixed it?

I have a similar problem. When I create a movie background and test in the simulator, the movie doesn't play and I get the grey screen with all the buttons and menus. The DVD created only plays the movie background only after you click a button and it tries to move on to the next track. I have never had a problem before.

  • PRE9 - modify dvd menu background

I've used the standard PRE9 menu template 'faux widescreen' and modified the background for it by clicking on the browse button under 'video or still' and selecting a jpg file for the new background.  There is a check box for 'use still frame' that is grayed out with no check mark --- so I can't check it or uncheck it.  Within PRE9 the new jpg file that I've selected for the menu background displays perfectly in edit mode and preview, everything seems fine however when I burn the project to a DVD, the original background displays like I had never changed it.  Thanks for help in resolving this.

  • Unable to use Mac OS X Install DVD

My iMac came with Mac OS X Install DVD, but since I have upgraded to Mountain Lion through the Apple App Store and have made a bootable USB. So after formatting my HDD I'm unable to boot from the USB or the DVD. When prompt to select "where you want to install OS X" from the Install OS X menu I am unable to select the device (This disk doesn’t use the GUID Partition Table Scheme), Also I have tried using the factory DVDs but nothing happens, after loading the DVD and holding down the "Option Key" (Alt) the DVD then gets ejected. I have run out of ways to correct this problem, and I have sold this computer online and need to ship soon, and your immediate response is greatly appreciated!

  • Why do I get an error message saying unable to use disk when creating a DVD

I have successfully burned two DVD's of a group of three I am burning of my last vacation pictures. I have successfully created WMV files for each day of the trip which I have combined to create the three DVD's so they won't be too lengthy. I created a menu with main menu and stop menu markers. When I went to burn the third disk, which is the shortest of the group the program would encode to the 96% and then the disk would eject and it would give an errow message saying the disk was not compatable. This was the same type of DVD-RW disks I used on the two successful disks. I tried redoing the burn 3  times with each time getting to 96% on the encription and then the same error message occurred. I used fresh disks each time. On the forth try I cut the number of WMV files down to 3 to make the DVD half as long. The same thing happened at the 96th% spot of the encription process. Nothing had ever been put on the disks. I am using top quality Memorex DVD-RW disks. Please let me know what else I can do. I am very frustrated. Oh yes, I closed the program down each time I got the error and also shut down and restarted the computer afer each error. I really want to finish this project as I have been working on it now for two weeks non stop. Thank you.

Good, that gets one possibility out of the way.
Since the error about the disc indicates that the Transcoding has already finished, I think that we can probably rule out the next step, but let's look anyway.
Now, for Transcoding to DVD, PrE uses 2-pass Encoding, so it would seem that this problem is comng right at the end of the second pass, at the end of the Timeline. Look very closely at that point, and see if there is anything odd there. Things like gaps in the Video of a Timeline, or sometimes Assets that are not proper, can cause Transcoding to stop. Anything there? [I think that with a disc error, Transcoding HAS completed, and the progress bar is just lagging slightly behind, but more questions are probably needed.]
Last, what brand of blank media are you using? The reason that I ask this is that some companies, like Memorex, buy the cheapest disc that day, and rebrand them, so in a spindle of 25, you might end up with blank discs by different mfgrs., and some can be much better, than others.
    Good luck,

  • Unable to use Broadband talk to get through menu s...

When I use my hub phone on broadband talk to dial a service that has menu options (press 1 for...) none of the buttons register.  If I dial 5 to use my landline, using the same phone I can use these menus.  Is broadband talk incompatible with these service?

    Hi
I am going to have the same problem as you shortly.
I have contacted a company called Sipgate who tell me I should be able to port my BT voip number to them.
I have not investigated any further at this stage as I am in a fixed term contract with BT, but hope to be able to port my number with either Sipgate or another VOIP later in the year.
If you decide to give this a try let me know how you get on.

  • Bug when using Tab Images

    Hi
I'm trying to use Tab Images in APEX 4.0.1, but have hit a couple of bugs.
Firstly, I'm using the substitution string #TAB_IMAGE# in the page template. This is described in the help as "Image File Name", however this is replaced with the full image tag. I believe the help text is very misleading in this instance.
Secondly, and this is by far the bigger problem, the img tag that replaces #TAB_IMAGE# has the image prefix hard coded into the src! So if the Current Tab Image for my tab is set to http://www.example.com/images/tab1.png then the source for the image in my case is /i/http://www.example.com/images/tab1.png which is incorrect.
This means that images for tabs MUST always be in the directory referenced by the #IMAGE_PREFIX# substitution string.
Am I missing something here? Is there a workaround? Currently we are unable to use Tab Images due to this.
    Many thanks
    Sara

    Hello Sara,
The behavior you are describing is a long time known issue. It is a bug that should have been resolved by now, but for some reason was not. Maybe it’s because none of the default (built-in) page templates is using images with TABs.
The workaround is to create your own img tag in the appropriate page template section, using the #TAB_NAME# substitution string. The principle is to name your corresponding images like current_#TAB_NAME#.gif and non_current_#TAB_NAME#.gif, where the #TAB_NAME# part in the file name is replaced with the actual tab name. So, for a TAB called EMP, you’ll have two image files by the names current_EMP.gif and non_current_EMP.gif.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • Spry Horizontal menu using rollover images

I see there are a lot of posts about spry menus and problems in IE. I wasnt sure if my problem is the same as the others, so my apologies if it's redundant. I'm working on a site with rollover images in the top menu of a spry menu bar with drop downs that fall below three of the menu items. Everything looks good in Mac/Win Firefox and Mac Safari. In Win IE 8 the menus go horizontally, left to right, instead of falling below the top level item as they should.
    The site is here: http://tinyurl.com/y8dxo8m
The Spry CSS is here: http://tinyurl.com/yd8yhem
Should I not be using rollover images with the Spry menu? I've spent quite a bit of time on trying to solve this, including attempting to rebuild the menu from scratch.

I Paty, I just inserted the Dreamweaver rollover into the navigation. I'm not sure if that's the best approach to achieve what i wanted out of my design, but it seems to work. I checked it in Adobe's Browserlab and it works across all browsers. I'm looking into purchasing the Project7 product. It's not a lot of money and seems easier to work with for embedded graphics than the spry software. I spent way too much time with the spry trying to get the nav to look like I wanted it to while working in all browsers.

  • Dvd Menu Adobe Premiere Elements 10 for Mac with bad resolution

    Hi, I use a MacBookPro with Mac OS X 10.6.8 - Intel Core i5 2,4 GH - RAM 4 GB.
I just purchased PRE 10 version hoping to solve a problem I had with version 9 for Mac but not with a version 7 for Win.
    I
My problem is that when I burn the dvd with the final work in PAL system, the menu of the DVD has the text very blurred at a very bad resolution.
I searched this forum and I didn't found a similar problem for Mac user.
I had the same problem with PRE 9.
Same problem if I insert a logo in the corner of the video. Very bad resolution image in the final dvd.
I tried to change the beginning resolution of the image from very low to very high and the result was the same.
Someone has similar problems? Someone did find a way to solve it?

Dear Bill, many thanks for your answer.
This is the Project Preset chosen.
As the source is a JVC Everio with hard disk, I chose PAL - Hard Disk - Widescreen 48 KHz
The source is as I said a JVC Everio in SD size. I saved the files in a backup Hard Disk. They are .mod files.
I don't know how to see if a Menu Sets is HD or SD. I tried almost all the available Menu Sets always with the same blurry results.
These images explain better than words.
Note that the firt image in the DVD Menu is perfect, not blurry. And this add a little bit of mystery :-)
this is the scene selection that has text blurry
And this is the logo I put in the right bottom side of the video. It is blurry. I put a high resolution image and it was blurry. Then I tried with an image .png with the same width of the video (720 pixels) and this is the same blurry effect:
The solution I use in these days to have goog results is very time expensive.
I make the editing work in my mac, without logo and menu. I make a dvd. Then I import the VIDEO_TS folder in my old pc, with my old version of Adobe Premiere 7.0. I insert the logo, I make the menu and then I make a dvd with my old PC and the resolution is the one I want.
Obviolusly I'd like to do all the work in my Mac...
The same problems and solution I used also with PRE 9.0
By the way, I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements in my Mac instead  iMovie because I need to do videos longer than 2 hours. And iMovie has this limit.
Many thanks in advance for help. There is someone that is using Mac and PRE 10 with GOOD results?
