Unable to use "Edit in Photoshop"

I am using Lightroom 3 on my Mac.  I have been unable to switch from Lightroom to "Edit in Photoshop" when I go to the  "Photo" menu - the words are just not highlighted.  I have tried to access this through Library and Develop. What am I not doing right?  Thanks

If you have PSE installed, you should get the option "Edit in Adobe Photoshop Elements ..." in the context menu.
If not I would re-install PSE8.

  • Can't use "Edit in Photoshop" for RAW images

I can't get Lightroom's "Edit in Photoshop" feature to work for CR2 RAW files (from Canon Rebel T2i).   I've installed the latest Camera Raw update, and Photoshop can open the RAW files.  However, when I use "Edit in Photoshop" within lightroom, Photoshop (CS5) opens, but then nothing happens.
Previous threads have mentioned this issue, but none gives a solution that worked for me.  One user reported rebooting as the solution; other solutions involved trashing the preferences files for Photoshop and Lightroom.  I've tried those, but no luck.   The "Edit in Photoshop" feature does work for JPEG files.
Any further ideas?  I'm using Lightroom 3, CS5, and Mac OS (Snow Leopard).

found the answer on another thread and it works!

  • Photoshop crashes when I use Edit in Photoshop CC 2014 from Lightroom 5.6

I have Adobe Lightroom 5.6.  Whenever I try to Edit in Photoshop CC (2014) when Photoshop has not been started, Photoshop immediately crashes with a message of:
Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 cannot be opened because of a problem.
This happens regardless of what option I choose to Edit in:  1) Copy with Lightroom adjustments, 2) Copy, or 3) Original
If Photoshop is already open, I don't have this problem.
I am running Mac OS X Mavericks.  Everything is up to date.
    How can I correct this?

That is not an application crash - that is a kernel panic, which means there is a hardware defect, a bug in the OS or a bug in a low level driver (like parts of the video driver).  Kernel panics are not caused by applications, but by defective hardware or bugs in the OS and drivers.
Resetting prefs may avoid the settings that triggered the crash - but the cause remains in the hardware, OS, or driver code.
Since Apple is not going to update the drivers in 10.6.8, your best bet is to update the OS when you can, and hope the new drivers are in better shape.  Unfortunately, it is also possible that you just have a bad GPU or video RAM - and fixing that would require replacing the video card or system (in the case of laptops or all-in-one machines).

  • Using 'Edit in' - Photoshop CC 2014, the program opens, but the file doesn't appear. Help!

I have Adobe CC Photography (great value!).  I need to do some Photoshop editing of my pictures - principally Levels 0 and so use the 'Edit in' functionality.
This has worked in the past; but today, Photoshop opens, but the file doesn't appear in the PS window.
I uninstalled (using MacKeeper) a copy of Photoshop Elements 12 on my hard drive recently - could that be the cause? In any case, how do I get back to being able to 'Edit in'?

  • Unable to use edited background image

I am using Captivate 3 on Windows XP Pro. After I edit a
background image in an external image editor, the image is saved in
a temporary folder, and I can't work out how to incorporate it back
into Captivate so it will replace the original image. There doesn't
seem to be anyway of identifying the "Library" folder through
    Windows Explorer to replace it.
I'd be grateful for any guidance on this,
    David

Hi David and welcome to our community
How are you kicking off the edit process? Right-clicking the
image in the library? If so, the Library should auto update. But
you may also need to right-click and choose update to force it.
If you just copied into an image editor, you should be able
to simply select and copy inside the image editor and paste into
    the background to update.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Error using edit in Photoshop Elements 8

Sync consumes space on your hard disk. To begin with you can turn sync off. To do so, please launch Task Manager / Activity Monitor and kill the exe ElementsOrganizerSync.exe. Now launch Organizer and click Edit >> Preferences >> Backup and Sync >> Now untick the checkbox corresponding to Backup/Sync.
Now the problem should not recur.
Also, just fyi.. Sync has been dropped in Version11 so this issue won't be visible at all

  • Unable to use, edit (modify) imported 3D Composition (compositions) as they are flat in main Comp.

    Hi everyone.
    need your help please.
as I have been working in totally different After Effects Compositions thinking it would be better (cleaner work area) not that it is time to put the pieces together I have found that my 3D extruded shape layers are flat and not offering 3D.
This has happened with 3D Text as well. I have tried parenting the imported 3D compositions but that did not accomplish anything.
I hope I have given enough information to help you understand the issue.
as an example I produced a 3D text layer of the letter "D" ......extruded it and made it the main support for a Widescreen monitor. added all the belles and whistles , rotated and it looks great.
However it will not open as 3D nor any extrusion editing features.
any help would be really appreciate.
    best regards,
    Bob Joynt

You have either turned off ray traced rendering or nested your extruded comp in a standard comp and made the layer 3D. Please go through the help files on extruding and bending layers. The only thing wrong is your workflow.

  • Remove CS5 ACR PV2010 plugin so "Edit In Photoshop" uses LR4's current PV2012...

...so LR4 doesn't create a copy of the image.
New to LR4 coming from using CS3 Bridge>ACR>Photoshop leaving only an xmp file icon to indicate in Bridge thumbnails the image has been edited.
I liked that workflow but LR4 which I bought to use its PV2012 processing engine gets the Raw engine mismatch Preference dialog box after choosing "Edit In Photoshop" that forces you to either choose the Raw image rendered with CS5 PV2010 engine (I upgraded to) or create a copy in LR4 to use its PV2012 engine. I want to avoid the copy being made and still use LR4's PV2012 and I don't want to have to export the file which defeats the copied file issue.
If I removed CS5's ACR plugin version from its folder registry would this make that happen?
I probably already know the answer to what's going to happen but thought I'ld just throw it out there in case someone already tried it.

I'm aware of all that, ssprengel, but that's not what I'm talking about.
I can see no one is going to be able to confirm the title of this topic to see what happens removing CS5's ACR plugin and sending a Raw file to Photoshop using "Edit In Photoshop" in LR4.
I guess I should point out the fact about keeping two Raw engines up-to-date in two separate editing apps requires both Photoshop and LR to be on parity which means you have to keep upgrading Photoshop while using LR or else create copies in LR so you can open them in old versions of Photoshop.
It sort of defeats the xmp workflow strategy where now the user has to make a copy for every image they want to work on in old versions of Photoshop where if they don't they lose the PV2012 processing. I'm on that upgrade hump where I had to pay for LR and now CS6 upgrade to get the Raw engine PV2012 processing on parity.
Or else stay out of Photoshop all together which is an option. It's a PITA If users want to work on a Raw file in Photoshop as it works out of Bridge users have to keep buying upgrades to Photoshop with each upgrade to LR if by chance LR PV20xx improves forcing the user to keep two reduntant Raw editors.
Here's an idea since ACR is a plugin and not really part of Photoshop, why not make LR a plugin or come up with some kind of code structure that mimics this so we don't have this battle of the Raw engine version upgrade parity issue.

  • "Edit in" Photoshop CS4 no longer working. Lightroom to Photoshop

I just replaced my home desktop Win8 computer. I reinstalled all my software and for a brief period Lightroom (v. 5.7 with Camera Raw 8.7) was working with Photoshop CS4. Now, I use "Edit in" Photoshop and the Photoshop program will open, but it will not open my Lightroom selected photo.
Yes, I have looked through the forums and tried reinstalling both programs. It still doesn't work.
I am VERY frustrated with Adobe. Adobe doesn't seem to be providing an update that works, nor is it easy to contact the company for help. Someone please...?  Ron [email protected]

  • Preset Issues with 'Edit in Photoshop' image

Hi guys, I'm running LR3 and CS5 on a MBP Lion, and I'm working directly with RAW files. I have adjusted the images in LR and used 'edit in photoshop' to correct blemishes on some photos. I want to apply some presets at the end to render a couple of different looks (B/W and Vintage) to the final edited image. However, I find that after the file comes back from PS, it looks good, but the photo gets 'normalized' and the develop module tools get reset to zero. Hence my presets totally blow the 'edited in photoshop' image while it works just fine on the original raw.
I have also tried to work on the original image prior to any LR adjustments. Same thing, after coming back from PS, both stacked files look similar, but at the time of running the preset, the 'edited in photoshop' file gets blown out.
I do not have any auto adjust settings turned on. No presets running on import/export. What am I doing wrong?
    I really appreciate any help!
    -Liz

when you edit a RAW file in PS and save it you will have a demosaiced file (TIF, PSD or JPG).
they behave different then RAW files. so sliders will probably have a different effect on a JPG file then it will have on a RAW file.
it will not be possible i think, to get the EXACT same look when you apply a preset afterwards.
for example the highlights will not have so much headroom in a TIF or JPG ... compared to the original RAW.
so i think the best is to apply the presets first, render the files with the LR settings and open in PS as smart object.

  • Lightroom 3's "edit in photoshop CS4" does not preserve "detail" values

    Hi all,
I am giving lightroom 3 a try (finally...), but noticed that when I have an image to which I have applied "detail" adjustments to reduce luminescence and color noise, using "edit in Photoshop CS4" opens the image without the detail adjustments applied. I don't see the option to pick whether to edit "the image" or "the image with lightroom settings" anywhere, and I'm scratching my head trying to find an option in the preferences (both LR and Catalog prefs) that lets me pick "edit with lightroom settings applied".
    It's a bit useless this way =/
Does anyone know how to make "edit in ..." for lightroom 3 always apply the image corrections to the edit copy?

I had been looking for that option, turns out the only way to get it back was to reset all warning dialogs. After telling LR to render with lightroom, things look great again.
    Thanks!

  • Rotation problem after editing in Photoshop

I'm using Lightroom 1.3 and Photoshop CS3 with all the current updates. This problem was the same in LR1 and PS CS2.
I have a mix of orientations in the JPEGs in my library - portrait and landscape. When the photos are imported into LR they appear correct. If I select a bunch of them, open them in PS (using Edit in Photoshop > Edit Originals), run a noise filter, save them, and then go back to LR, the previews for the portrait images are rotated so that all the previews show as landscape.
The portrait images display correctly (except for the fact that they have been rotated) in the Library module - both grid and loupe view). In the Develop module, the image aspect is displayed portrait but the image is as a distorted landscape - the image is rotated and then distorted to fill the portrait oriented space. In the Print module, that same distorted image is fills the portrait oriented page. To be clear, instead of a portrait image appearing in the correct orientation on a portrait page preview, the image is rotated 90 degrees and then stretched to fill the page.
There is a badge on the preview indicating that the metadata is out of sync with the file.
If I rotate the image in LR, the badge goes away and the image appears portrait and undistorted in the Library module's grid and loupe views. The Develop module show the portrait image in the correct rotation, but has been stretched to a landscape aspect. The Print module shows that distorted image rotated to fit the portrait page.
The only way to correct this is to "Read Metadata from file". This resets all the orientation information so that it displays correctly in LR, but all the tags and IPTC information gets erased.
This is most of the reason why I was writing all the metadata into to files until now. I would write the metadata before editing in PS, do my PS edits, and then back in LR I'd "Read the Metadata" from the files to set everything correctly in LR. But of course now that I'm working with Leopard I get screwed if I do this because my files will crash the Finder.
To top it all off, I've run into the "...cannot be saved because the file is in use" problem with some files I opened last night.
Clearly none of these issues are being addressed in Adobe or Apple's updates. Is there a reasonable workaround that will let me:
    1. set metadata and tags and know that they won't either get lost or cause problems
    2. have image orientation respected and displayed correctly
    3. not crash any of the three critical applications on this computer - Lightroom, Photoshop, and Finder.

I really appreciate your explaining this Jao.
I'm going to explain how I got into this situation, in the hopes that it may prove useful to someone (I'm looking at you, Adobe) who wants to understand how the app is being used in the real world.
So as not to break up the narrative, let me just say that I'd be happy (ecstatic, actually) if I could use Lightroom for my entire workflow, but the noise reduction filter in LR is just nowhere near as good as NoiseNinja. (A problem shared by LR, PS, and Aperture.) If I could run NN from inside LR, that would rock.
Oh, and I shoot JPEG because I shoot live events where the lighting is usually crap and I need to be ready at any moment for something interesting to happen. Shooting RAW would be nice, but it's too slow and takes up way too much space.
So here's what I do, (hopefully edited to make the reading non-tedious)
    1. import all photos from source (usually memory cards)
The photos go onto a drive reserved for photos. I shoot events, so everything is organised by date-event. On import I set filenames (date - event name - time stamp.jpg) and keywords.
    2. cull
They get marked "1" (irretrievably useless, to be deleted), "2" (keep just in case), "3" (decent shots), "4" (photos that I want to show to other people), or "5" (this is one of my best this year). Delete the "1"s.
    3. select 20-30 "picks"
I create a folder within the event folder called "Picks" for these photos. Then I duplicate that folder as "Originals"
In doing it this way I can protect myself if I need/want to change my cataloguing application. I'm on my fourth one at this point (Lightroom) and while I am generally finding that LR is meeting my needs more than anything else I've tried, I've been burned in the past (how many of us have regretted letting Aperture put all our photos into an incomprehensible database/folder hell?)
The Picks/Originals structure makes sure that the originals never get touched (because it doesn't show up in LR) and I can quickly find the Picks.
I -was- writing the metadata to the files so the ratings, keywords, and IPTC info was where it should be - attached to the photo. I've stopped doing this for the time being until this whole Finder-craching debacle is corrected.
So why am I not using LR's built "Edit - Copy"/stacking function, which more or less duplicates my process?
Well part of it was my own dumbness - Aperture made the edited copy/variation a Photoshop file, which ballooned my collections with staggering speed. I'm not sure if LR used to do the same thing, or I just made the assumption. My mistake.
The other part of the problem is just the simplicity of having an Originals folder that is effectively ignored. Using LR will mix the "-edited" files in with originals, which is not as efficient or elegant a solution, but I'll give it a whirl.
Thanks for your suggestion. If giving up my Picks/Original process solves the rotation problem then perhaps it's a fair trade.
Still, it seems that the right hand is somehow oblivious to what the left hand is doing in the whole PS/LR thing, and that it ought not work that way.
