"Unable to verify the name or password of the account" (Twitter account Mountain Lion OSX)

I recently installed Mountain Lion OS X (10.8 actually) and have been trying to configure my Twitter account to integrate it on my iMac, the problem is that when I type my Username and Password it won't let me add the specified account, it always appears the following message below the Username/Password fields: "Unable to verify the name or password of the account".
I know it may be that I type wrong my password or username, but I have checked and double-checked both password and Username and STILL get this message it has become rather annoying what does it mean? Do I have a problem with my privacy settings, firewall or something?...any help I would really aprecciate it,
Thanks in advance!

Have this issue as well, any info on fix?

  • I have changed the name and password for my Time Capsule and now the Time Machine will not connect

    Mac Book Pro
    1TB Time Capsule.
Yesterday I changed the name and password on my time capsule and also the name and password of the wifi network as I was having problems with the speed of the internet when using Safari on any of my devices (1 Macbook pro, 1 macbook air, 27" iMac, iPhone and iPad) all other internet services were working fine (email etc.) This seems to have solved the problem.
However, since then, my time machine back ups will not reconnect and there is no option for me to reconnect to the existing back up for my macbook pro.
When I enter the time machine preferences it shows as below that there are no back ups.
Then, when I go to select a drive to use which should be the MacBook under the Backup disks the only option is for me to Remove Disk...
So, my question is, how do I reconnect to an existing Time Machine back up for my MacBook pro as I really do not want to erase and start all over again.
Warning - In my naiveté, I did click on the MacBook in 'Available Disks' but I got the impression that it was about to start a whole new back up and not work with the existing one.
(And does anybody have an inkling as to why there was a problem with Safari on all my devices? I downloaded Google Chrome and that worked fine).

    Simply reset the Time Machine.
    See A4 here http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
You can then mount the TC disk in finder after you reboot the computer.
You should be able to reselect the TC disk and then it will say it is going to start a new backup.
Ignore this.. when the TM actually loads the TC disk it will discover the existing backup and continue the backup.. but it will give no hint until it actually starts that it won't start a new backup. you just have to believe it won't.. and mostly it works..
Please also install the widget A1 so you have some idea what TM is doing.

  • Unable to verify login name SADMIN - when configure database/import repo

I am installing siebel 8110 on my test machine (win2k8) with sql2k5 as db. I am having error when database configuration has reached the stage of importing repo.
    Connecting to database...
    Connected.
    Starte common api.
Unable to verify login name SADMIN.
    Unable to start common api.
    Unable to start common api.
    Error in initiate function.
As instructed on the install guide, I created the database "Siebel" with collation Latin1_General_CI_AS (tried Latin1_General_BIN, same error). Then run the grantuser.sql from dbsrvr\MSSQL\grantusr.sql with success.
    I can then verify:
    1. Users SADMIN & SIEBEL can be used to login to sql server via sql management studio. Passwords are same as their username, same upper case.
    2. SSE_ROLE is created for "Siebel" database and contains "SADMIN"
    3. "Siebel" database shows owner as "SIEBEL" in properties.
    4. DSN created in the installation process is verified successfully.
The error I had actually shows it has sucessfully connected to the database and the previous database schema creation was also successful. How would the heck it failed the SADMIN verification?
    In the imprep_prim.log, I can see the command it failed was repimexp.exe /a I /G ENU /u SADMIN /p ***** /c ES8_BB_DSN /d dbo /r "Siebel Repository" /f e:\siebel\dbsrvr\common\mstrep.dat /l e:\siebel\.....
If I copy the command and run after modifying the "*****" with real password (SADMIN in my case), it gets the same error.
If run through the database configuration wizard and choose "Import repository", the same error.
Please advise what can I check to rectify the error. I am frustrated.....

Well, I solved it last night by stabing the dark. Just for someone who might have the same problem again.
There is nothing wrong with the password and username used in my case. The message was completely misleading. It is about the sort order.
There is no way to change the sort order (binary, dictionaory, etc) of an instance without rebuilding it.
    1) I installed a new instance by selecting the "binary sort" during the installation wizard and use "Latin1_General_BIN" as installation guide suggested.
    2) Then I cleaned up the unfinished configuration progress by deleting the "siebsrvr\LOG\install\state".
    3) run the sql script to create the database with "Latin1_General_BIN" to match the collation of the instance and same grantuser.sql I did before.
    4) Retry the install with "Binary sort" selected.
Bottomline, sort order and collation have to be "binary sort" and "Latin1_General_BIN" in both the instance and the siebel database that will be created. Maybe both instance and siebel database wizard are set to use "Dictionary, case sensitive" option can work, but I did not try it.
run sql query "sp_helpsort" in your sql studio to find out the setting of sort order. For binary sort it will show as such.

  • How do I prevent other Mac users from changing my Airport Extreme Network Name and Password within the Airport Utility?

How do I prevent other Mac users from changing my Airport Extreme Network Name and Password within the Airport Utility?  My company is using an Airport Extreme in our office now and I want to prevent other employees from messing with the network/settings.  Is there a way to place a password on the settings to allow only the admin to access the network name and password?

Hi - you have will have to change the device passwords on all the base stations and then don't give them to anyone except the administrators and tell them not to save them on their computers that use the older versions of the Airport Utility - for the newer versions like the mobile apps, as soon as you enter the pasword it is saved and is visible in the advanced pane along with the network password - so if anyone gets a hold of your iPad or iPhone, they can edit the whole network - I have this same issue with my networks in the office and it is inconvenient but doable - I hope this helps

    Hi there,
I have a Mac Book Pro from 2008. I have mountain lion running on it.
We used to have a server (pc) in the office that I connected to and stored all of my photos and videos etc.
We have jsut upgraded to a new server and this connects great!

"Enter your name and password for the server "192.168.0.10".
(it is trying to connect to the old server)
I have tried a bunch of fixes online but i dont think they are relevant for this issue - or i cant find what they want tme to change or remove.
Any help would be great! having this pop up while trying to create things slows everything down.

  • LAN Networking / UUID error - "You may need to enter the name and password"

I'm having an issue with networking via ethernet cable. I'm connecting to Windows Vista via ethernet from my macbook pro.
Everything was going hunky dory until today when I connected and tried to copy a folder over from my desktop to a folder on my vista machine.
The error is a three tier one, as follows:
    1. +"You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on the computer to change the item name "..." - stop or continue"+
    2. +"The item "..." contains one or more items you do not have permission to read. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?" - stop or continue+
    3. +"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."+
This happens with all files and folders that I try to transfer over. I have full permissions on both ends to do this and the folders have full permissions.
I've done a bit of trawling and have found out that if you goto: system prefs - accounts (click unlock) - right click on the user in question - advanced options, you can click on the "create new" button under UUID and create a new UUID digit, then restart. This works!!!!... But...
...it only works for a little while. After transferring a few folders or files accross, it comes up with the three tiered warning: "you may need to enter the name and... etc etc."
    This is really annoying.
I've found my initial answers on this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1823835&tstart=45, but this issue seems to go one step further by constantly not allowing me access
Has anyone got any thoughts about what I can do? I've also tried running applejack on startup, but this doens't work either...

Actually I get some other errors as well:
"You may need to enter the name and password..."
    Then I click continue...
"The item "filename" contains one or more items you do not have permission to read. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?"
    I click continue...
"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."
I am copying a text file made from textedit. I have logged into the shared drive on my iMac. I get the same errors coying to my own user folder. Same account on both machines.
But it does copy a blank version of the file to the drive and adds the .txt extension to it. Then I can delete it from the share.

  • "You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator"

I am suddenly getting this message when I try to copy a file from my new Macbookpro to my Powerbook running 10.4.9.
"You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named "file i am trying to transfer". stop continue
I hit continue and get the error message: "The item "that I am transferring" contains one or more items you do not have permission to read. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?
I say continue and get the error: "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient priveleges for some of the items."
My network was working fine until today. I can copy fine to all other computers on my network. But not this one.
If I initiate a transfer from the Powerbook, everything works fine.
    Ideas?

I experience the exact issue between a macbook pro and an iMac.
I can access the files locally on my macbook, copy them on usb-stick, etc.
but ... when I try to copy the files to my iMac ... it fails with the sequence of questions you mentioned.
    However!
I can copy whatever I like from my macbook if I use my wifes account.
    So...
Imho there is a problem when the SAME account is used on both systems.
In my case, I copied my account from the macbook to the (new) iMac.
Mac OS X seems to be confused when the same accounts are used.
    Does this makes sense?
    All help welcome.

  • "You may need to enter the name and password for an admin" ....

    Hi everyone!
I'm getting this error when trying to copy files over to a network drive. First, it'll pop up and say:
"You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named"
At the same time, it will create an empty file on the target drive. When I click "Continue", it asks me for my username and password, which I happily enter. At that point, it errors out and says "The operation cannot be completed because an item with the name "xyz" already exists".
I've tried repairing permissions, chmod 777'ing a file, etc. It did work for a short time (it seemed to work while I was at work, but once I arrived home, it quit working and hasn't worked since.) I've tried rebooting as well.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm really puzzled over this!
    Thanks!

  • Type the name and password of a user in the "(null)" group to allow this.

To connect to wifi while in the recovery partition, I'm asked to authenticate the wlan's certificate, and in order to do that I'm asked for "the name and password of a user in the "(null)" group" to make changes to the Certificate Trust Settings. Anyone know what or which user may this be?
I'm not able to pass from the initial apple screen when I boot, so I wanted to repair or reinstall Lion, but in order to do that I need to connet to the WLAN to download it.

Hi, I called Apple Support this day, and the answer is that enterprise WPA wireless is NOT supported by Lion Internet Recovery.
You can find the supported configurations and protocols on Apple site:

  • When I enter my user name and password for my e-mail account, the page won't open

My e-mail account page won't open after I enter my user name and password on the log-in page. I have vcrified with Suddenlink that my user name and password are correct.

    Thanks Peter.
Partial success in that I have been able to get mails onto the iPad  - however....
Progress from a previous 'rumage' on problem discussions.    I have succeded in setting up the iPad so that it receives emails from the sky address under 'MAIL' on the iPad.    However trying to open in the 'usual' way   -  safari - then sky  -  then email  -  enter user name and password  -  I get the same result  -  it just returns to the log in menu for sky email with user name and password blank.
I had a previous problem with the sky mail ceasing to show recent mails, frozen in time on the iPad.   Somehow by trying some reset instructions I was able to 'unlock' the iPad and all was OK until it 'froze' again.    This time I clearly screwed up attempts to unlock, resulting in not being able to access email accounts via the Sky site !!

  • Directory Utility keeps telling me the name and password do not match

Installed Leopard Server on my Mini a few days ago, and I enabled Open Directory server.
Added the server in my home network with directory utility on my laptop, and it works perfect both when I'm on the local network, and when I'm elsewhere.
Tried doing the same at my Leopard iMac at work today. Finds the server just fine, but when trying to configure my machine locally I get an error message during Authentication that simply says "The name and password you entered for the user account on the server do not match".
Now. I KNOW the username and password is correct. And I have the same username and password on this machine (both the long name, and the short one).
So what am I doing wrong here?

    Christian,
I've experienced similar issue recently. The most likely solution will be to delete the user and recreate it using same uid and username. I'm going to look for other solutions prior to that.

  • Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct

Everyday I use Command + K to bring up the "Connect to Server" dialog, select the server from "Favorite Servers", click the Connect button, receive a prompt to provide my credentials to access the network share, then the share mounts and I access the files on it.
Starting yesterday I no longer get the prompt asking me to provide the domain, username and password, it just tries to connect to the server then reports the following error:
"Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct."
I've restarted my Mac but still does the same thing. I'm able to connect to other server shares just fine, prompts me for the username and password, but this one particular server just will not prompt me for the username and password.
I've done the following to try and resolve it but without any success in doing so:
    I've restarted the server
I ran Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility
Ran Keychain Access --> First Aid --> Repair
Tried to find an entry in Keychain to remove, none listed
Able to connect to share within Fusion running XP
    Anything I missing?

    Hi Troy-
It surely is starting to look like it's some kind of security setting on the Win-Server...something that's different from the other server you just patched.
If you've looked at local and domain policies that do not 'require' digital signing, then I'm a a loss. (I don't have the exact settings, but it's been discussed here ad nauseum over the past two years)
Has something to do with disabling digital signing of communications "always", and enabling "when possible"... other than that, I've forgotten the exact policies...Look in security policies, and you'll probably see what I'm trying to describe.
(Glad I got my daily brain-hiccup out of the way early today!)
