Unable to verify the printer on the network

Hi,
I have a home IP network with an HP4100N network laser-printer connected via JetDirect card to a powerline device and then to a hub.
Up until recently, all computers on my network could successfully print to the printer via the JetDirect card and IP (192.168.0.100).
HOWEVER, my girlfriends MacBook Pro running Mac OX 10.9.5 suddenly stopped printing to the printer and things were just starting to build up in the print queue. The printer continues to print normally for everyone else on Mac and even a Windows 7 machine, eeek!
Turning the printer on and off a couple of times, resetting the network etc, I then finally deleted the print queue and tried to setup a new connection to the printer again on her computer via the prefs and the IP JetDirect socket option (like I have done on all the other computers).
When I enter the printer IP address into the Mac Printer & Scanners settings, Mac OS tried to interrogate printer model etc and it comes back with a Generic Postscript Printer profile and not the HP specific one. (Again, every other computer can setup fine at this point!)
On her computer, when you try and install the printer with the wrong profile (or even the correct one if manually chosen), it eventually says:
'Unable to verify the printer on your network'.
Network utility:
I then tried using the Network Utility to ping the printer from my laptop, this works.
I tried to ping the printer from her computer, this doesn't work and it times out!
then...
I tried pinging her MBP from my MBP and this works. Then I pinged my MBP from her MBP, this works.
So her computer is on the network, but is not able to see the printer.
I then hard- IP'd a new IP address on the printer (just to rule this out), setup all the computers to this new printer, all worked well except for her computer, which once again couldn't see the printer. (I can't ping to it either again from her computer, even with the new IP!)
I think I've tried all the obvious things, updating software, resetting things, turning the firewall off completely....but all to no avail.
The problem, it seems to me, is with her MBP rather than with the network or the printer (as all other computers can print!).
So...the million dollar question is... Can anyone tell me what is going on?! How do I get her computer to print to this printer again??
thanks very much.

Yeah, I would agree with you completely Greg, but the baffling thing is it just affects this one Mac. How come it routes 'selectively' so to speak? It works for everyone (incl. Windows 7 machine) but not for my GF's MBP... until such a time that it suddenly feels like working again (all by itself by the looks of things).
You are right in saying that it defo appears to be some kind of routing problem, but I'm having difficulty in finding out where the problem actually is. Is it the router, the printer or her computer? Could it be the firewall on the router blocking it for her and not for others for some reason? If it was the router, you would expect it to tarnish everyone with the same brush, would you not?
Whilst the HP printer has the static IP manually set up on that side (192.168.0.100), the router hasn't specifically been told that the printer has the .0.100 address hard coded into it I don't think, so there is a possibility for it to be going weird here. I'll need to look at the router config page tonight and just lock that 0.100 address to the MAC HW of the printer. Perhaps that will do the trick, but still wouldn't explain why it's doing it selectively just to that one computer (not even randomly to others on the network).
I did try the safe boot too. Within that I ran Disk Utility to fix some file permission errors (there were some group permission problems for the new HP software that I had installed on her computer actually, which DU had fixed). Whilst running the utility, it did throw back issues about the EFI partition map being corrupted etc, but that seems to be a separate problem with the disk utility software not being able to run/fix from the disk it is being booted from, even in safe mode. But this is being discussed elsewhere on Apple Forums and I don't think it's connected to the IP problem I'm having.
Whilst I was doing the Safe Boot thing, I got sidetracked (isn't that always the case when you troubleshoot) and didn't try and set the printer up within that environment, but instead was trying to figure out why I was getting the EFI partition Map errors. It turned into a late night and I had to hit the sack at some point...
I tried IPP too. Putting the Printers IP into the address field on her computer didn't result in the HP Printer profile being selected when it tried to find the printer, this stayed as Generic PostScript. I didn't explore any further on that occasion to see if I could manually set it all up and print to it or if the set-up would just hang again. I figured if the IP address of the printer isn't visible to the computer (ie. no route to host), then changing to IPP wouldn't work either.
I'll give these options another go tonight when I get my hands on her computer again.

When I replaced my PC desktop with a Mac Mini and hooked up my HP printer to it, I discovered that my other computers on the Wi-Fi network could no longer access the printer.  The manual says Maverick OS will not allow PC's to share the printer. Does anyone else have this problem?  My printer does not have on-board Wi-Fi but, otherwise, works fine.  I shouldn't have to buy a new one.  Is there a OS patch out there that would open the printer port for my PC computers?

I'm assuming that on the Mac, the System Preferences -> Sharing -> Printer Sharing -> [X] HP printer -> Everyone can print is selected?  That is to say, the Mac will allow anyone to print using the printer, and that you did not try to restrict who can print.
How is your network configured?  Bonjour as a protocol will NOT cross a router boundary.  If you have 2 or more subnets active with the PCs on one subnet and the Mac on another, that would block the PCs from seeing the Mac.
You could have multiple subnets if you have more than one router, such as an ISP provided broadband modem/router and another WiFi Router.  If the PCs are talking to one router and the Mac is talking to another, that could be a 2 subnet situation.  The additional routers must be put into bridge mode, which is done differently depending on the router.  But the basics are to diable DHCP and NAT services on the secondary router(s) having just one active router on the network.
Also, using Bonjour Browser on my Mac, it is showing me that the printer is being advertised as using Internet Printing Protocol, so if that is something selectable on Windows, maybe you can bypass Bonjour on Windows.

    Hello gtilghman
Please try the HP Network Diagnostic Utility. It should help you setup your printer on the network.

You would need to get the IP address of your printer then manually add a network print queue.
To get the IP address, on the control panel of your printer, press on Setup > Network Setup > TCP/IP > View/Set IP address.

  • Setup restrictions to the printer through the embaded network adapter

I've recently prochesed an HP Officejet Pro K8600dn printer.
I've connected the printer to the internet through the embaded network adapter and it worked perfectly. Howerver, the printer can be freely used by anyone in my network so i'm wondering if there's a way to block certain ip's or to configure any of that in the printer?
Also, the EWS server that came with the printer works perfectly and i can access it through my web browser. I cannot find anything about configuring allowed or blocked ip's.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Not likely this printer is going to have that kind of security features.  You'd be looking at something like a logon feature or Kerberos Authentication (which requires a dedicated server).  This is just a simple open port that allows anything on the network to access the printer as long as it talks the right printer language.
That being said, the router configuration is a whole different animal.  With the printer set up with a static IP, your router might allow you to restrict traffic to that address.  You would need to check your router configuration or contact their support staff for assistance.

ok no problem! all i did was 1) set up the mobile hotspot on my phone. 2)  turn it and wifi on on the phone. 3)  connect the laptop/desktop to the hotspot network. 4) insert setup disk for the printer and begin setup. 5) complete the setup "using a usb cord to temporarilly connect the computer and printer" 6) unplug usb cable and finish set up on the laptop/desktop. 7) give it a few minutes to show up on the AirPrint menu on the phone. 8) that should be it. I unplugged the printer and plugged it back in, made sure the laptop was totally turned off AND disconnected from the network, and did everything I could to try and make it not work. The printer I have is a Canon MG3122, it doesn't have a fancy screen or even a way to input a password or anything like that, so it just strores a default network that it will connect to. in order to change networks i would have to complete setup multiple times. Since I only plan to use it with AirPrint for my mobile business....the one network is just fine! Hope this helps!

  • How to add the Printer to my network with WPS

Hi there, I have a ZTE router, it is a bit old version and doesn't have the WPS button, how can I add the printer manually to the network? Thanks!

Hi,Not any router supports WPS, some have a button and some provide WPS functionality from the router homepage, I suggest referring to yoru router documentation to ensure its capabilities. You may connect it wirelessly via the HP Software, follow the installation by selecting a wireless connection to the printer.Note: the software may require to temporarly connect a USB to configure the wireless settings for the pritner. You may download and follow the software below:http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL51559/Im-124825-3/LaserJet-Pro-MFP-M125_M128-series_v12.34.0.dmg Regards,Shlomi

I’m trying to follow HP’s instructions to add a driver for HP Color Laserjet CP 1215 which is connected to my Time Capsule. However, in System Preferences I can’t “add” the printer to the print queue because I don’t have a driver and you have to select a driver before the add button becomes active.  Therefore, the Mountain Lion software update doesn’t add driver software for the CP 1215 driver because I was unable to add the printer to the print queue.

This printer doesn't seem to be supported in ML:

You could try the 1515 driver or use the Generic PostScript Printer PPD when adding the printer.

  • Crystal tries to access the printer on the initial development machine ...

    Hi,
    I have following issue:
I developed many reports on my machine in Germany, by using a network printer.
Now that the reports are approved, they are installed on a citrix machine in boston.
Somehow loading of the reports in the citrix session took 3-10minutes, until the application poped up the parameter screen. After typing in the parameters opening the report took only view seconds.
On my local machine I did not have this problem. The reports were loaded quickly. The behavior on 5 different citrix servers were the same like the described one (each loading delayed 3-10 minutes ).
By tracing the processes in the citrix session I found out that the spooler.exe accessed my development printer in germany (shared printer \ slow network connection). The spooler loads the drivers on the server in germany, where the printer is.
Why does crystal by loading a report access the printer on which I developed?
Even if I change the printer in the pagepreferences of the report, crystal still tries to access my initial printer on which i developed. ??
Can anyone help me on this?
    thanks

Well it seems from your error message that JDeveloper is trying to create this directory here:
    C:/Documents and Settings/cyounger/Desktop/jdevstudio10134/jdev/system/oracle.j2ee.10.1.3.42.70/embedded-oc4j/applications/datatags.ear
This is probably failing because of the space in the path (i.e. Documents and Settings).
So the question is why is it trying to create the directory there if your JDeveloper is installed elsewhere.
I'm going to guess that you either have an environment setting pointing to this directory (maybe something like JDEV_USER_DIR) or it is because you upgraded from another JDeveloper install that used that directory. If this is the case I would suggest a fresh install of JDeveloper and to choose "NO" when asked if you want to upgrade from a previous installation.

  • The printer has the wrong icon

The printer has the wrong icon on one computer, the right on on the other.
    =====
I have a LaserJet 1320 at home, and a LaserJet 1200 in my pastor's study.
My MacBookPro connects to the LaserJet 1320 as a network printer and to the LaserJet 1200 directly by USB. My G5 iMac only connects to the LaserJet 1320 as a network printer.
On the MacBook Pro, the printers have the icons that look like them. On the iMac, the 1320 has the icon for the 1200!
I replaced my router at home, and in the process, deleted the printers from the iMac and reinstalled them.
On the iMac, the 1320 STILL has the icon for the 1200!
This is not exactly a life-threatening situation, but it is annoying. How do I fix it? Does anyone know where these icons live and what file specifies which icon goes with which printer?
    17" iMac G5 and 15" MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I found the printer icons for HP on the iMac. There was no icon for the 1320 series, so it was defaulting to the icon for the 1300, which visually resembles the 1200.
It didn't occur to me until I had wasted a lot of time that the driver on the iMac predated the Intel Macs, and that the driver on the MacBook Pro must be newer. In the course of the day, I read that Software Update doesn't necessarily update drivers. So I went to the HP web site and discovered that they have a Universal driver. I downloaded and installed that, and it produced the correct icon.
Lesson: Occasionally check the printer manufacturer's web site for driver updates.

What does the black plug display mean?

Get an Airport Express. Plug the printer into the AE with a usb cable and set up the AE to be part of the network (get an IP address from your router). You can get an older AE inexpensively on eBay.

In Contacts version 8, how can I print ALL information in each individual card? When I select the print command the only thing printed is the name and address. I need phone number(s) and all other information in the cards. We enter various pieces of data, other than the standard name address & phone numbers and we print all information on each card so it fits in a 5x7 inch loose binder. We have used InTouch software for many years and it has served us extremely welll, however, the publisher (The Prairie Group) has not, and apparently has no plans to update their software to be compatible with any Mac OSX OS beyond 10.6. Any help will be appreciated!

You can select what you want included in a list format. In the Print command from Contacts, click the Show Details button. Then in the Style pulldown menu select "Lists" and there you'll be able to select what you want included. You can also select what you wish included if you select the Pocket Address Book style.
If neither of those options will work for you, then you will need to look to third-party software. Here's one possibility that seems to get good reviews:
    https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/15485/labels-&-addresses
I haven't done more than try it to make sure that it works with OS X 10.9's Contacts, which it does, but you can download their demo and try it yourself.
