Unable to view certain images in lPhoto library
I recently created a website at .mac and posted a number of pictures. There were a lot of pictures but I am not sure it is related to my problem. My problem is that these pictures are no longer visible in the library or in any of the sub files. They show the file name but the thumbnail is blank with a "dashed rectangle", like a frame for a picture. When I double click on this "frame" I see the image enlarged but when I click off it becomes hidden again. All my other files in the library are fine and there are a couple of sporadic pictures from the file that I am having trouble with that do show. I don't know what I did. I would be grateful for any hints as to what I did and how I can fix it.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It appears your thumbnail files are the culprit. First download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
If that doesn't fix the problem move the Data file to the desktop and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed. Select the two options regarding the thumbnails. That should fix the thumbnail issue.
Do you Twango?

I am unable to view some images sent by email or on certain websites. How do i fix this.
Hi. I'm not technically skilled, but based on the reply from the other guy re. AdBlock Plus being the common denominator to everyone's problems, I checked my Filter settings (ABP version 2.0.3) and deselected 'Fanboy's List (English)'. With this deselected and ABP still 'enabled' the messages work as usual.
I only had this problem using Virgin Mail, so must be the way they now present their mail that conflicts with 'Fanboy's List (English)' filter. I guess I'll need toi choose another filter. -
Newbie Question- unable to view certain photos in iPhoto 6
First time Mac user..just got my MBP.
I created folders and albums under iPhoto. I then copied .JPGs from my shared Windows drive directly into the albums. They get imported correctly because I can see all the pictures in the "gallery" view. However, when I click certain individual pictures, I get a outlined grey box with an exclamation in the middle. This happens with about half the photos. I can't seem to view them.
However, when I go through Finder, I am able to double click on the same photos and view them using Preview. Full size.
Anyone know why I am unable to view certain photos in iPhoto but am able to view everything in Preview?
Any help is appreciated..
Thanks!Hi cran,
Check out this apple kb article and see if it might help

My iMac is authorised to play iTunes content, but my Apple TV keeps asking for me to authorise and I am unable to view content from my iTunes Library. How can I convince my Apple TV that I am authorised?
I am not exactly sure what you mean by "authorised", but I am experiencing a similar problem...or the same, in that Apple TV keeps telling me to enable home sharing in my MacBook Pro. It does not seem to recognize that home sharing is already enabled on my Laptop.
Is home sharing and "authorised" one in the same? It used to work just fine before these recent Apple TV updates.

Is this being georeferenced? -
I cannot view certain images, and I have already checked my settings a few times over. This only occurs occasionally with deviantart. Previously I came across a way to correct this, but it's been so long now that I've needed to adjust it that I've forgotten. So my question: Is there a way to adjust things so that the differently sized images appear regardless of pixel amount? It tends to be either only the preview or fullsize image on DA. Also, though I've Adblock Plus now, this happened even before.
== URL of affected sites ==
http://deviantart.comIt is possible that you accidentally clicked the 'Block Images' item in the right click context menu while trying to save an image.
Check the image exceptions: Tools > Options > Content: Load Images: Exceptions - See [[Options window - Content panel]]
A way to see which images are blocked is to click the favicon (''Site Identification'' icon) on the left side of the location bar and click the "More Information" button.
This will open the Security tab of the ''Page Info'' window (also accessible via Tools > Page Info).
Go to the ''Media'' tab of that Page Info window.
Select the first image and scroll down though the list with the Down arrow.
If an image is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box ''Block Images from...'' then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain. -

Unable to import certain image files in CS5
I currently am using CS5, and I am unable to import certain image files such as .png and.tga. When I try to import them I get an error message saying something along the lines of file type not supported. Any help?
Make sure that the images are not CMYK color space.
Already tried that, thanks
One thing to take note of is everytime I start AE I get a pop up box saying "You have at least one output module template that refers to a missing plug-in. Please check your Output Module Template". That plug-in would be the TIIFF alpha sequence output. Perhaps that has something to do with it.. -
I am unable to view thumbail images in google search results page
When performing a search on Google I am unable to view thumbnails on the main search page. If I click on the placeholder the image will open, I am also able to view thumbnails on the images / videos results page.
Firefox version 3.6.13
Running Windows 7, 32 bit professional.
Addons: Adblock Plus
Flashblock
Googlehancer (used to prevent autocomplete.)
Web of Trust (WOT)
All addons updated today.
Cleared cache, cleared history, cleared cookies.
Able to view results thumbnails on Bing and other search providers.
Tools > Content > Load Images checked, exceptions are cleared, so all sites should be available.
Tools > Content > Enable Javascript also checked.
I suspect, though cannot be sure, that something I did to disable the forced autocomplete function in Google searches also disabled the thumbnail view.If you use extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extension) like <i>Adblock Plus</i> or <i>NoScript</i> or <i>Flash Block</i> that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Unable to view certain photos on camera roll
I took two photos using my iPhone 4 on Saturday. Both the pictures appeared on my iPhone fine. Then when I looked at the photos on Sunday, the thumbnails has been replaced with a grey/white image with "png" on it. Now I cannot view the photos. Any ideas why this has occured and if there is a way I can retreive the photos?
Thanks. On import, iPhoto copies photos into its library, which is proprietary to itself and should never be poked and prodded from outside iphoto or you run a strong risk of corrupting the library and losing your photos. So you eventually need to choose between iphoto and organizer.
If you want to use iphoto, then you have two choices:
1. Set PSE as your external editor and send the photos from iphoto to PSE, edit them, then save without changing the name or format (you may need to adjust the pse preferences>saving files>on first save), and iphoto will remember your last edits and the orginal. However, you must to lose the edited version to use the original again, and this method doesn't work well with raw files.
2. Export the photos from iphoto to the desktop, user File>Open in the editor, edit the photos, make all the changes to name and format that you like, save the photos and import them back to iphoto as new files.
Or if you decide you prefer organizer, set the this iphoto preference to No Application and you can call up the photo downloader from within organizer, or just drag the photo with the images in it from the card to wherever you want to keept them:
and of course you don't need to user either iphoto or organizer unless you want. -
[SOLVED] Unable to view .dng images with geeqie
Both my work computer and home computer have geeqie installed, running 1.1-3. I recently attempted to view a .dng file on my work computer and it briefly opened and then closed. I've been able to do so before, and my home computer is able to view them just fine. I just installed f-spot (googled around for other .dng-capable viewers), and can successfully open a .dng file with it. I can open them as usual with darktable as well; so I don't think it's something inherently missing regarding dealing with digital negatives, or at least that's the theory.
Starting geeqie from the command line yields:
$ geeqie /path/to/file.DNG
ERROR:filedata.c:1101:file_data_new_group: assertion failed: (fd)
Aborted (core dumped)
I get some pretty old bugs when googling that error. I installed geeqie-git just to check, and it opens the file, but with a ridiculously small resolution, despite it being a ~13mb digital negative.
Something seems borked, but I'm at a loss about what it is, especially since f-spot seems to work and geeqie is doing fine on another computer. Suggestions of what to check?

Some of the post-failure debug stuff on the successful computer mentions pixbuf; both have the same version installed: gdk-pixbuf2 2.31.1-1. Checked other gtk/gnome/icon related libraries and they appear to match. Lastly, I freshly updated both and rebooted just to check that my home computer wasn't lagging behind on some library that might have caused the issue.
I'm happy to try more things/post more information as needed.
The test picture is here if anyone would like to try it:

IPhoto crashes, unable to view any images
iPhoto is consistently crashing when I start it up. As soon as I open the first image, the good old spinning beach ball appears & it just hangs up leaving me to force quit. It's not specific to the one image, it happens with any of them.
Has anybody seen a similar issue? Know of any fixes for this?
All the updates have been downloaded too by the way!Backup the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select last three options.

Unable to view all photos in Aperture library
Only the last upload of photos are viewable. Photos are on a Lacie external HD as is Aperture. It does list the 407 Projects, 39512 photos but thumbnails of the events are blank. I checked the Photo Filter and all boxes are unchecked.
Any suggestions?
Very nervous...... : (Please tell us more, so we can get a clear picture:
What is your Aperture version?
Photos are on a Lacie external HD as is Aperture.
Do you mean you have a referenced library, and the referenced originals are on your Lacie drive? Or is your library managed and the whole library is on the external?
Does "as is Aperture" mean, that your Aperture application is also on the external?
How is your external drive formatted and how is it connected?
39512 photos but thumbnails of the events are blank.
In what way "blank" - do you see dashed outlines, or are they black?
Are your original image files raw or in another image format?
Do you have a current backup of your Lacie drive?

Unable to view large image as "fit on screen"
If I open a large document and want to view it as "fit on screen", the image area appears blank. I can see it in my layers, but unless I am zoomed in at 25% or higher, nothing appears. I'm new to CS5 on Windows 7. I've checked that OpenGL is enabled.
Keep in mind that OpenGL should be working for you, and that disabling it is a workaround, not a fix. With it disabled you lose some OpenGL-specific features, such as smooth zooming and panning, brush size/hardness gesture preview...
Check your video drivers for updates from the manufacturer. New drivers are still coming out that fix bugs like this.
