Unable to view (most) man pages

... really aggravating:
I've recently completed a Solaris 8 install (Sparc). I've also installed some software from the "companion" cd (in /opt/sfw). I have gobs of man page files in several locations, but I am unable to view most of them. I've tried entering various "man" incantations on a command line, and double-clicking on man page files in the file manager window. Nothing works - from the cmd line for example:
# man -s 1 zip
"Reformatting page. Please wait... done"
or, in File Manager:
Double-click a man file (e.g. zip.1) in File Manager gets this message: "Man page could not be formatted. THe requested Man Page is either not present, or corrupt."
However, there are a few files (in /opt/sfw/man) that, when double-clicked in FIle Manager (or man'd fm the command line) will display.
I've searched the FAQs 'til my eyes are bleeding, but have found no answers. Can someone tell me WTFIGO?

You may want to pkginfo -l SUNWman to see if your main man pages were installed successfully.

hello prgc37, you original problem was likely caused by a fault extension that you have installed. can you try to [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems|reset firefox]] and see if this can address the issue...
otherwise such connection issues are also often caused by a firewall/security software which doesn't recognize & therefore blocks new firefox versions. please remove all program rules for firefox from your firewall and let it detect the new version of the browser again.

I had tried to configure the java development kit to the relevant directory in the catalina.bat file. Am I configuring in the wrong place?

If you haven't already, you need to set the JAVA_HOME environment variable.
Setting it in catalina.bat is the wrong place. In Windows XP you can set the environment variables by
1 - right click My Computer: propreties.
2 - Advanced Tab
3 - Button "Environment Variables" (near the bottom)
4 - add a System Variable: JAVA_HOME to be the place you installed java
JAVA_HOME should point to the directory you installed java. ie NOT to the java/bin directory (one common error)

Unable to view My Verizon page?

Okay,
I have been unable to access My Verizon page for almost a month and a half now. It's getting real irritating. The representative on the phone was no help. I reset safari, the cache, and history multiple times, checked between operating systems on my Lenovo on Chrome, Firefox, and god forbid, Internet Explorer. Nothing is working for my account.
I'm hoping someone else is experiencing my pain so that they know that they are also not the only one who is experiencing this "down-time".
So, to reiterate, the things that I have done:
Reset Cache
Reset Safari
Reset Browser History
Reset Cookies
Tried logging in on three different work computers besides my own
Tried logging in on my alternate PC
     Through Firefox
     Through Chrome
     Through Internet Explorer
Drank a lot of alcohol
What can you guys recommend I do since even Verizon doesn't seem to know what is going on?

Unable to view Web Sharing pages

I have Web Sharing enabled, but when I attempt to view pages I get this error "You don't have permission to access..." So, I figured it was a permissions problem, so I repaired permissions and still get same error. Anyone have some ideas?

Unable to view "Change password" page in other lang than English

We have a stange problem:
Installed APEX 3.0.1 over 10.2.0.3 Database, no errors.
Applied Spanish and French translations (load_es and load_fr), no errors.
Create a new Workspace.
Create a single application (blank page).
Create a new user (no developer, no admin) and checked "Require Change of password on first use"
Default language in Browser English, try to login into single app with the new user and redirected to change password correctly.
If the Default language in browser is Spanish or French, trying to log into single app next error appears:
Error: El elemento "P50_USER_NAME" no aparece porque la pantalla HTML todavía no estaba abierta.
Same error for elements "P50_ENTER_CURRENT_PASSWORD", "P50_PASSWORD" ,"P50_CONFIRM_PASSWORD" and "P50_SESSION".
A simple error translation into English will be something like that:
Error.The element (or item) "P50_USER_NAME" does not appear because the HTML screen were not open yet.
If I try to enter with and admin user into /pls/apex app in Spanish...work fine!!!
Any ideas....to desperate with this error. I tried to translate the application.

Are you saying that when you run your application using an end-user account whose password must be changed, but that user is also an admin, that the change password page works fine?
No, the application fails using end-user and admin user.
When I said /pls/apex I was talking about the page that has "Application Builder", "SQL Workshop"...etc in this page it works fine.
Any ideas???

Currently unable to view most online video content...

I have been able to view online video content previously...but, now all I get is the Quicktime logo that immediately transforms into the logo with a question mark on it. I can view material in Qucktime, though...I also can't see ads--they are blocked by the same item...I reloaded Quicktime and checked all my settings throughout my computer with my Macbook...can't find the problem...!!?? I have lots of .MOV files on my iPhone5 that I need to transfer to my PC. Using QuickTime Player 7.7.4 I am unable to view them once they have been copied to a hard drive or directly from the iPhone via USB. 1% of the time a vid is viewable

I can tranfer them to a hard drive on my PC, but am unable to view most of them using QuickTime Player 7.7.4. Doesn't matter if I'm viewing them via a USB connection to my iPhone5 or from a hard drive after the file has been copied via USB. 1% of the vids are viewable, 20% open with a black screen and audio only. The rest open with a blue, purple and green stryrated mess and no audio. Yes its a Quick Time problem I know but where do I post this question in the community? Also searching my drives for other .MOV files downloaded from the net I find the same problem with them.

Heres what I don't like about VLC, but at least the files are viewable...somewhat.
1. You can't flip the image 90degrees, needs to have a rotate feature for sure. This needs to have keyboard shortcut so vids can be rotated easily as one may have shot video horizontally and vertically in the same take.
2. Opens file to a very large window, most of it off the screen, it should REMEMBER what you resized it to, so the next time a video is played you don't have to drag the window back on the screen so you can get to the resizing handle in the lower corner.
3. Doesn't buffer while playing, so the movies are extremely erractic, starting and stopping every 3 seconds, highly annoying.
OK so maybe my PC is too slow, its a dual processor 486 Hyperrthread 2.8G but I only have 2Gigs of memory, however, bettery than 50% of the memory is still available while playing a vid (memory is checked every 4 seconds with a program), but I have 90-100% CPU useage going on while playing.
Maybe I should think about a new computer.

Man pages present, utilities absent? ("at" "talk" others?) [Solved]

I wasn't sure where to post this so I'm gonna post it here.
I've got man page entries from certain utiilities from the posix programmers manual, like "at" and "talk" but these utilities aren't actually installed,
I've searched the pacman repository and I'm not actually sure these utilities are even provided as a package at all.
Is there something that I can use like "at"? (besides crontabs)
Also, is this worth filing a bug report over? (I searched the bugs list, I didn't find anything matching this description, although I only tried searching for "man pages" and "posix", and only checked the first page for "man pages".
There's also some problems with viewing certain man-pages, like that dhcpcd man page where some of the characters are garbled, but I think this is probably a known bug relating to the switchover to UTF-8 as the standard locale.

The pkg 'man-pages' is directly taken from http://www.kernel.org/doc/man-pages/, which is funded by the Linux Foundation. You can see in the link that this pkg provides man pages for system-calls, glibc lib functions, device-files, file-formats and section 7 (miscellanea).
Each pkg (e.g. util-linux-ng) is supposed to provide it's own manual pages. The 'POSIX programmer manuals' are provided to document the fact that how should these utilities behave or be implemented (if somebody wants to implement them...). This doesn't mean that these utilities are installed (they may be if their pkg is installed).

Unable to view tabs and layouts on web sites

When I log into myspace or Facebook I am unable to view tabs or page layout. Even at yahoo, My pages come out plain

I have already tried Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove the Cookies" from sites that cause problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

Metadata Reporsitory-- Unable to view the objects.

Hello all,
In the Metadata Repository, I am unable to view the target page, for example if i click "Info Cube" link, then that target page is not displayed, and the Main page remains there. I think, the target page is opening and disappearing.
Could you let me know any possible solution/reason for this?

Unable to view iTunes Store - not a blank page though

We have just downloaded the latest version of iTunes (last night) and we are now unable to view the iTunes Store. I can sign in, but the screen just looks like this:
It was working absolutely fine before last night... any ideas would be most welcome

just tried running the repair again, went through fine again. except this time we have this:
oooooh ok. now this is odd. I accidentally clicked on the page where the content in the store would normally be (i.e. where the black and white boxes are, and I got this:
which to me looks perfectly normal! not quite what I'm into, but at least the store itself seems to be working. just not the Home & front pages by the looks of things.
yet if I choose from one of the options in the one of the menus (i.e. from the music menu, choose album chart, songs chart compilations etc) they all seem to function fine.

No scrolling when viewing man pages with Gnome terminal?

I have just installed Oracle Solaris 11 on x86. For a long time I've used Solaris 9 on SPARC. I like the new OS, but I'm having a problem viewing man pages with Gnome terminal. When I view a long man page, e.g., "man newfs", I don't get a functional scroll bar on the right hand side of the window. And although the space bar works to advance the page, when I reach the end, it doesn't return to the command prompt. It just beeps, prints "END", and I can only exit by closing the window. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Suggestions would be much appreciated.

It does sound like you're using "less" instead of more. When you see the "(END)" prompt you can simply type "q" and it will exit back to the command line prompt making it unnecessary to close the window. See the "less" manual page for more detail on the less command. Under Solaris 9 the paging was done with the "more" command. If you set the PAGER environment variiable to "more" the man page will use more and revert to the behavior you'd be used to with Solaris 9. Less erases the text you've already read when you type that final "q" which is a behavior I don't like. I didn't bother to determine if there is a way to fix that with less, I just went back to more. The choice between "more" and "less" is a personal preference.

Unable to view page content in Design View

I cannot see the content of a page made from a template in normal Design view.
I am able to see the content in Live View mode, but cannot make changes in that view. I can only make changes in code view.
My client would like to make changes to content text in Design view only.
Why am I unable to see/edit in Design view?

The template is based on the standard included thrColAbsHdr layout template provided with DW.

1. It is true you cannot use the Properties window. You can use the code view or the Widget Browser to make edits. The Widget Browser has a GUI if you feel more comfortable with that.
2. You should be able to make some changes in Design View, but unfortunately the GUI and clean layout in Design View is gone. Best suggestion I can give you here is to file a bug report/feature request: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform . I have before with this because I agree it helps newer users and compared to commercial alternatives like those from Project Seven it falls short everytime.
