Unable to work in 32bit color

Hi everyone,
i've a serious problem and i can't find any solutions for. This is what happends..
I installed our brand new CS5 package and started photo shop. After working a few hours on a picture i started over with a second one. But this time i was unable to create a folder, layer or layer based correction in the 32bit color tif file. But i was able to in the first one right after the installation. Now, a day later i've reinstalled CS5, deleted all content in adobe folders, used the adobe cleaner and did a regclean but i'm still unable to edit any picture in 32bit.
The same version is perfectly running on a identical system right next to me?!
Last option is to format my system and delete my win profile, please help!

Try this:
1. File-New, fill in the dialog as shown here.
2. Select a brush, pick some colors, and paint on the image. Does it work?
3. Using Layer - New Adjustment Layer... - Levels, add a Levels adjustment layer called Levels 1 and drag the center point to the right. Were you able to do so and did the image get darker/more contrasty?
If you were not able to complete the above steps, exactly what went wrong? What error message or unexpected behavior did you see, specifically?

Some non-32-bit effects working like 32bit in CS6.

I'm noticing that some effects in Premiere cs6 that ARE NOT labeled as 32-bit effects are acting like 32-bit effects.
For example: You put 10-bit footage into a sequence that has "max bit depth" enabled for previews. You add fast color corrector, which supports "32 bit float," and change the levels to make extreme contrast. It creates nice, smooth gradients. Then go to sequence settings and uncheck "max bit depth" and you'll see the once smooth gradients turn to a banded mess because now you are viewing everything as 8bit. The same happens on export, depending on if the "max bit depth" is enabled or not in the export settings.
As I understand it, the way it SHOULD work is this: With "max bit depth" enabled (showing again the full 10-bit loveliness), you place a non-32bit effect on the clip, and the video SHOULD show it all go back to 8bit ugliness. The Adobe manual says that anything other than 32-bit effects overrides all other effects and displays/renders the clip as 8-bit.
The stange thing is...some non-32-bit effects seem to maintain the smooth gradients and NOT revert to 8bit. Sharpen and shadow/highlight are just a couple of a bunch that seem to work like 32bit effects. Some of them, like Crop, don't show 8bit unless you select (highlight) the effect in the effect control panel...when it is unselected it shows 10 bit.
I have been using only 32-bit effects in fear that if I use anything else (like the sharpen effect and others) I would be turning my 10bit footage into 8bit. But it appears this isn't the case? Any thoughts here?

Thanks Steve. So to wrap this up...am I right to assume that I can use any GPU accelerated effects AND/OR 32-bit effects on my 10bit footage and be safe in at these DO NOT clamp to 8bit, and that all other effects WILL clamp to 8bit (including YUV effects)?

Eyedropper not working in index color on Mac

I recently changed from MAC 9.1 and photoshop 7 to a 24" IMAC and photoshop CS3. I have 3 gig ram -- operating system 10.4.10. I can't get the eyedropper to work in index color in CS3. I've talked with someone else who has a PC and it is working on the PC. I called Adobe and it is working on their PC's too. I went to the Apple Store and it isn't working on their MAC. So I am assuming either the eyedropper isn't working on the MAC or I don't know how to get it to work in CS3.

I printed out your post and followed the steps you outline.
The eyedropper in the Color Table works just as expected on my computer. (See specs below)

Customize indexed color tables
The Color Table command lets you make changes to the color table of an indexed-color image. These customization features are particularly useful with pseudocolor imagesimages displaying variations in gray levels with color rather than shades of gray, often used in scientific and medical applications. However, customizing the color table can also produce special effects with indexed-color images that have a limited number of colors.
Note: To shift colors simply in a pseudocolor image, choose Image > Adjustments, and use the color adjustment commands in the submenu.
Edit colors and assign transparency with a color table
You can edit colors in the color table to produce special effects, or assign transparency in the image to a single color in the table.
Open the indexed-color image.
Choose Image > Mode > Color Table.
To change a single color, click the color and choose a new color in the color picker.
To change a range of colors, drag in the table to choose the range of colors you want to change. In the color picker, choose the first color you want in the range and click OK. When the color picker redisplays, choose the last color you want in the range and click OK.
The colors you selected in the Color Picker are placed in the range you selected in the Color Table dialog box.
To assign transparency to a color, select the Eyedropper tool in the Color Table dialog box, and click the color in the table or in the image. The sampled color is replaced with transparency in the image.
Click OK in the Color Table dialog box to apply the new colors to the indexed-color image.
Choose a predefined color table
Open the indexed-color image.
Do one of the following:
Choose Image > Mode > Color Table.
Choose Image > Mode > Indexed Color. In the Indexed Color dialog box, choose Custom from the Palette menu. This opens the Color Table dialog box.
In the Color Table dialog box, choose a predefined table from the Table menu.
Custom
Creates a palette you specify.
Black Body

Displays a palette based on the colors produced as white light passes through a prismfrom violet, blue, and green to yellow, orange, and red.

Save and load color tables
You use the Save and Load buttons in the Color Table dialog box to save your indexed color tables for use with other Adobe Photoshop images. After you load a color table into an image, the colors in the image change to reflect the color positions they reference in the new color table.
Note: You can also load saved color tables into the Swatches palette.
Since all of the above worked as expected, I would conclude that it is a bug that is not affecting PowerPC (pre-Intel) Macs. :(
Computer setup:
Dual bootable, DP MDD 1.25GHz G4 (2004), maxed out at 2GB of RAM, both Spotlight and Dashboard disabled, Photoshop primary scratch disk on dedicated 160GB internal drive, at least 100GB available on each of the four internal drives, up to 300GB on some. Counting external FW drives just over 1TB of drive space available. nVidia GeForce 4 Ti 128MB graphics display card (about to be upgraded in the next couple of hours). Processor napping enabled through CHUD 3.5.2.

MY CC SUBSCRIPTION HAS BEEN SHUTDOWN – TOLD PAID BY ADOBE SUPPORT - UNABLE TO WORK

I am currently shut down by Adobe. I can't use any products on the Creative Cloud. Adobe has had a gun to my head for the past 7 days and just pulled the trigger. I am currently unable to work. I have used 3 credit cards with Adobe on this account and all have failed at some time over the years that creative cloud has been in existence with one having to be terminated because of the hack issue. I've spent 3 days with Adobe support this week and now I'm on my fourth day of several hours each day trying to get this solved. It started on December 12th when my auto payment wasn't accepted and I received an email to please update my payment information. I checked and nothing had changed and just re-entered the same correct information. The cloud apps still worked but I was getting the dreaded countdown timer. On December 15th I had 27 Days left. On December 15th on another machine I had 26 Days left. On December 16th, I didn't get the countdown timer on any machines. On December 17th, I had 25 days left. Then after speaking on the 4th day with Adobe Support (800-833-6687) and being assured that everything is fine, ignore the timer, your payment has gone through and been accepted, I received an email from Adobe Creative Cloud that my Creative Cloud membership has transitioned from Paid to Free. What happened to the 25 days I had 4 hours ago? That made me have to call Adobe Support again that day and listen to another agent (names are available if needed) tell me that everything is fine your payment has gone through ignore all emails and messages. I will check back with you tomorrow to make sure all is ok.
December 18th - TODAY MY CREATIVE CLOUD ACCESS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN. That means none of the Adobe applications will work. All that happens is the Application Manager opens with the countdown timer two big red 00's saying "Please Check Your Billing Info." anytime I try to open an Adobe application This means nothing works. I can't perform any business design functions. NO ACCESS TO CLIENT FILES ON THE CLOUD. Supposedly you have 30 days to take care of billing problems. I went from 25 days to 0 days in one day. Shutdown. The Adobe Customer Service Agent has not called back yet today. By the way my bank paid Adobe $53.14 on December 15th. Adobe also charged a temporary authorization on December 17th of $1.00. It's very hard to keep my true feelings suppressed about the past 6 days events.

Custom Connection Manager only works in 32bit- 0xC0011008: Error loading from XML

I have a very basic / stripped connection manager with only one property (SSIS 2012). It works fine in design time (you can open the connection manager editor and change the value), but in runtime it only works in 32bit mode. The runtime-validate-method
does work, but if everything validates OK then in 64bit it throws an error when you run the package:
Exception deserializing the package "The package failed to load due to error 0xC0011008 "Error loading from XML. No further detailed error information can be specified for this problem because no Events object was passed where detailed error information
can be stored.". This occurs when CPackage::LoadFromXML fails.
The 2 VS projects are .Net 4 class library projects with the Build Platform on "Any CPU"

Looks like something similar (same message, same 64bit issue), will try that tomorrow! But sounds weird that you should tell SSIS which identity to use...

Hmmm, I wonder if that window is hidden or off screen? Have you moved the pic window around to look under it?
Might try this...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...

We will need more information in order to help you. What folders are you talking about since the phone does not support a standard computer file system? Each app holds its individual files. What can't you do on your phone?

Saving Images under 32bit color

Iv'e tried alot of differant various things to cor
rect this problem, but simply put, it seems like if i open a blank document in Photoshop CS5 under RGB Color 32bit, i cannot later save as a JPEG/BITMAP/PNG or anything web related. I can only save it as Photoshop type documents. This is rather frustraiting since i spent hours drawing a picture on my tablet and i was forced to copy it and move it to a RGB color 16bit which also faded my image immencly make it look like it has a glare, in addition to that it also made the gradiant of the image unusable, this is not repairable because in order to copy the entire image over i had to merge the layers.
Is there really any explination as to why we cannot save 32bit color as web ready formats, or even JPEGs/PNGs?

Is there a reason you need to draw from a blank document in photoshops 32 bit color mode.
The 32 bit color mode in photoshop is not the same as your monitor being set to
highest color (32bit).
If you want to convert your document to 16 or 8 bits so you can save for web or other formats,
Image>Mode>16 bits then choose merge and Exposure and Gamma from the hdr toning dialog.
Your drawing should the same after conversion, just with no layers.

AE CS6 Constantly reloading frames and unable to work on scene

So I'm having a major problem with after effects cs6 as it is constantly relaoding the frames. Let me give you some info, so from the 3d rendering we have one pass that is completed from the scene and for example it's 1000 frames. So those 1000 frames are finished rendering from the 3D program(3dsmax). I'm able to bring those frames into AE with no errors and no frames missing errors. However once i start working on it in AE and since our 3d scenes we have multiple renders that render out different parts from the scene, if the 1000 frames is finished completely and we have one or two more renders that are anywhere from 500-1500 frames just as an example that are saved in the same folder as the completed 1000 frames, AE freaking crashes every damn time! Unable to work or click anywhere. Just because it is being saved in the same folder that the other ones are being saved to as well! Never had this problem in 5.5 and it is really annoying. Anyone know of any ways to work around this or having the same problem??

You should put each sequence in a different folder. If the new render is additional frames for the same scene the same thing holds true. Put each render in it's own folder.
If you're adding to an existing sequence with the same file name then AE is not going to like having additional frames loading in while it's working. It would be the same thing as recapturing footage with the same file name in the same folder while you're trying to pull up the footage in another app. Rendering additional frames for the same sequence in the same folder while AE is working has always been a bad idea. You may have gotten away with it in CS5.5 but that was a fluke. It is essentially the same thing as trying to work on video while it is being captured.
If you're rendering different passes (diffuse, specular, etc.) you can get away with these additional sequences with a different file name being stored in the same folder but IMHO, this is not good project management.

Could not use color replacement tool because it only works in full color mode: Elements 11

I have a PSD file open and I added a new layer via the copy command. I have added a Layer Mask to the new layer and I'm trying to use the Brush Tool with black forground to cover part of the new layer. I'm following an online tutorial step by step, but when I try to use the Brush Tool I get "could not use color replacement tool because it only works in full color mode". The Image>Mode is set to RGB. I'm stuck!

First, show the tools optiond in the bottom of the screen (shortcut F4)
Now look at which of the three options you can select, brush, impressionist brush or replacement tool. I suspect you have to select the brush.
Edit:
The reason of the message is that when you are painting on a mask you are in greyscale mode for the mask. For instance, if you paste a coloured layer into a mask, it will be converted to greyscale.

Looks like toad is right. A quick google search on "does not have any corresponding BIOS drive" shows a load of entries going back to 2006. The ones I looked at are same error as you report, and the fix sounds exactly what toad said:

You did mention recheck in your post. I then read the post again:

> mount /dev/sda2 /mnt
> cd /mnt
> mount -t proc proc proc/
> mount -t sysfs sys sys/
> mount -o bind /dev dev/
> chroot /mnt
> grub-install /dev/sda
and you are mounting /dev/sda2 to /mnt but trying to install grub to /dev/sda.
I can't say for sure that's wrong but surely sda2 wont mount to /dev/sda? I may be miles off here admittedly. I can't remember offhand how mount works.

Working Space for Color Management...

Hello,
I'm working on a project with a series of still, all of which contain embedded sRGB color profiles (as these images were originally used for a web-based job). This video project will eventually go onto a SD DVD to be displayed on a SD NTSC television. When choosing my working space (for color management), should I use SDTV NTSC (or should I use sRGB and then specify SDTV NTSC in my output setting upon rendering? I'm leaning towards SDTV NTSC as my working space, but since I'm coming at this from a print background in color management, I'm wondering if someone could lend some advice?
Also, what should I select for these options (under Color Settings in Project Settings)...ie. should I or shouldn't I have them checked...
- Linearize Working Space
- Blend Colors Using 1.0 Gamma

Generally, yes. It helps avoid problems that can occur with inter-layer blending.

Also correct, unless you intend to work in a 16- or 32-bpc mode.

It looks like you might be using CC, in which case CC 2014.2.2 has a very cool, New Guide layout panel
If you are using CS6 (or CC for that matter) there is the excellent free GuideGuide extension panel. Both would be helpful if you use a lot of guides.

Unable to work in embedded Excel worksheets, errors out, and forced into task manager

I am unable to work in Excel worksheets embedded Word 2010. I continually get the following errors/warnings: "Microsoft Word can't start the application required to open this object. An error occurred and this feature
is no longer functioning properly. Would you like to repair this feature now?" & " "The program used to create this object is Excel. That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding. To edit this object, install Excel or ensure
that any dialog boxes in Excel are closed." After these messages, I click to repair Word and upon a fresh reboot ...the same thing over and over and over again. After going through this procedure, I usually get another warning message regarding "OLE...." which
pops up continually until I "Ctrl-Alt-Del" and stop the Excel item in processes.
Currently I'm on Win7 64 Enterprise OS and 32 Bit Office 2010, Solutions that I have tried: disabling add-ins, updating, installing service packs with no success...

You disable COM Add-in in Excel or Word ?
This problem might be related to some third-party in Excel,
Close word, and start Excel worksheet.
In Excel, click File menu, click Options >
Add-ins, click Go button in the Manage:
COM Add-ins.
Check if there has any add-ins, clear the checkbox to disable them.
Start Word and try to edit your embedded files. They should now work without a problem.
If the problem does not appear, restart Excel and add one check back each time to the list of Add-In, restart the Excel program, and
repeat the above procedure. Once the issue reappears again, we can determine which add-in causes this problem and then disable it.
