Unable Update SQL Developer with Times Ten in-Memory DB Extension 1.2.1.1.0
SQL Developer 1.2.1 Build MAIN 32.13 (Windows XP)
We can't Update SQL Developer with Times Ten in-Memory DB Extension 1.2.1.1.0 :-((
We did the same actions as described in tutorial
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/timesten/viewlets/tt703_sqldev_install_ext_viewlet_swf.html
In addition to tutorial we have "Log In" window
"To download Oracle Times Ten in-Memory Database Extension
you must enter your Oracle Web Account user name and password"
This window was not displayed in tutorial...
We try to use three our OTN accounts and the result
was the same - we was asked with "User name" and "Password"
again, again, again and again,,, :-(
Is it a bug or a feature?
Mayby we didn't understand something or did something wrong?
Hi Simon,
I found cause of update failure! It was the HTTP proxy setting.
I turned off "Use HTTP proxy server" checkbox in SQL Developer -> Tools -> Preferences -> Web Browser and Proxy.
After this action SQL Developer was successfully updated with Times Ten Extension.

Could any one please help me in updating SQL Developer 4.0 EA1 to EA2 using a Local File installation... I have a proxy which is blocking me from updating my SQL Developer..
I would appreciate if any once could share any link which contains a patch to upgrate to EA2 from EA1
Thanks

AvinashHi Avinash,
as it is mentioned in the official release notes page (Oracle SQL Developer 4.0 Early Adopter Release Notes):
The Check for Updates option to upgrade between releases of SQL Developer is not supported. This utility is provided to install third party extensions, this includes the third party drivers required for migrations and to add additional version control extensions.
All new releases of SQL Developer require a full installation. Download and unzip the file into an empty folder. Ensure the "Use folder names" checkbox is checked when unzipping the file.
Migrating from Previous Releases
After you have installed the product you are asked if you want to migrate from a previous release. This migrates previously set preferences and connections created: By default the Confirm Import Preferences dialog that is displayed selects the latest installation. Select Yes to migrate the settings from that release or click the Show All Installations button to browse to an earlier installation..."
Hope it helps,

Did you perhaps do a custom install? The DB software includes a version of sql developer and, by default, installs it in the sqldeveloper folder of the DB_HOME. Does that folder have sql developer in it?
I suggest that you NOT use the version of sql developer that ships with the database. That version will NOT be the current version.
Download the current version of SQL Developer, unzip it into a new folder and create a desktop icon for it.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
The current version includes many, many bug fixes from that earlier DB version and you will have far fewer probems with it. -
How to get all tables in oracle sql developer with MS SQLServer
Hi All,
I am using microsoft SQL server 2000. For displaying the tables and other stuff i am using oracle SQL developer tool. The problem is when i connect to sql developer with oracle database i can see all the tables in that database. But when i connect to MS SQL server database it is not showing all the tables in that database. I don't know why?.
i tried doing the samething using another tool called Aqua Data Studio , there i can able to see all the tables in microsoft SQL server 2000.
do you have any knowledge regarding this, why i am not getting all the tables in oracle sql developer when i connect to microsoft SQL server 2000.Same issue here. Haven't found the answer yet..

SQL developer with jre but no jdk
Is there a way i can install sql developer with only jre installed in my windows system.
Im trying to install to sql developer 64 bit and when i run the exe file it asks for java.exe file path.
When i give it to the path to exe file in jre/bin it gives an error cannot find j2se sdk installed in jre directory.Normally SQLDeveloper requires a JDK and so will not accept a JRE.
You can try to bypass this check by filling in the SetJavaHome property manually in the sqldeveloper.conf file usually located in
SQLDEVELOPER_INSTALL_DIR/sqldeveloper/binby doing this you are not guaranteed to succeed, because some of the functions of SQLDeveloper specifically requires the JDK and so if you use these functions you will most probably incur in errors or unexpected behavior.
The best thing to do IMHO is to install a proper JDK.
If you do not have the right to do so you can also copy and already installed JDK from another machine and it usually works well enough. -
SQL Developer with Mac Os X 1.3.9
Greetings,
I am running Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1.0.3) on my Powerbook G4 1 GHz with 768 MB ram. After reading the requirements for SQL developer for OS X, I thought I would try to install it. Unfortunately there seems to be a conflict in the requirements for installing SQL developer.
"Operating System
Apple Mac OS X Version 10.3

" from http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B28240_02/install.htm#CIHDJBJG
The J2SE 1.5 release is currently only available for OS X 10.4 and higher, so apparently you need this os version to run SQL developer. Is this correct? Is there a SQL Developer version that will run on OSX 10.3 that is running the J2SE 1.4.2 release?Sorry the subject heading should read:

Integrating sql developer with Subversion
Hi all,
I have Oracle SQL Developer (3.1.07) installed on my local windows machine. Using an external tool Tortise SVN as our VCS. Has anyone been able to integrate SQL Developer with TortiseSVN? I have googled and haven't found any relevant docs to help me integrate both. Is this possible at all? We have a configured repository server. TortiseSVN is installed on my machine and is acting as a working directory.
Kindly advice me.
Thanks!Hi Nick,
it seems that the latest version of SQL Developer is not yet certified to work with Subversion 1.7 and it has some serious problems with it.
Indeed if you have already installed the latest version of TortoiseSVN on your pc, you will have quite a lot of issues in SQL Developer (for example while browsing a working copy on your disk) and weird errors not immediately related with the version control plugin. You may find more details by searching the forum (e.g. see 3.1EA1 File browser bug? ).
The possible solutions are either:
1) install a supported version of TortoiseSVN (1.6 should be fine) and you should be able to perform check-in and check-out from inside SQL Developer;
2) disable the Subversion plugin shipped with SQL Developer and use exclusively TortoiseSVN to manage your working copy;
Currently I am using option 2 and it works fine.
Hope it helps,
Paolo

Password change fails in SQL Developer with verify function...
A couple of months ago I enforced a password verify function on our 11.2.0.3 databases and also one legacy 10.2.0.4 database.
At the time I tested on my account (which had elevated privileges...doh!). Now some users are hitting expiry, they can't change it via SQL Developer.
If I create a user with 'create session' privilege and set their profile to one that uses the verify function (see both below), I then log in to SQL Developer (we have tried with versions 3.1 (Windows) and 3.2 (Linux) with same failure results.
BTW,.. the password verify function enforces the following:
password must be minimum of 8 characters
password must not be the same as the user name, or user name (1-100)
password must contain at least a single digit
password must contain at least a single character
1. Works = I log into the local server and run command line SQLPlus, type 'password' and update. I can successfully change my password.
2. Fails = I log into the local server and run command line SQLPlus, type 'alter user <me> identified by <newpwd>;' I get:
TEST: SUTEMP > alter user sutemp identified by carport9999;
alter user sutemp identified by carport9999
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-28221: REPLACE not specified
This error is because the account does not have the 'alter user' privilege. I'm okay with this, as I don't want our users having this privilege.
3. I start SQL Developer 3.2, type 'alter user <me> identified by <newpwd>;' I get the same ORA-28221 error as above. That is fine, and as expected.
4. Now in SQL Developer, I type 'password', set a valid password, but I get 'Failed to change password' in the Script Output tab.
I have a database 'after servererror on database' trigger set, and querying the database table it is logging into, I see a record with a date stamp matching my failure with a server_error=28221 (the same as above).
So I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong here, or if this is a bug in SQL Developer. I don't want standard users having 'alter user' privileges, but I do want to enforce password verification.
I get the same result on three 11.2.0.3 databases (haven't tried any more but suspect same results for others) and one legacy 10.2.0.4 database, and using SQL Developer 3.1 and 3.2.

So why does the 'password' command fail? (Developers: it would also be helpful to have the ORA- error displayed as opposed to 'Failed to change password') -
PL/SQL development with JDeveloper
We are using Toad and JDeveloper to maintain our legacy IS that count thousands of PL/SQL code object (Packages, Package Bodies, Triggers).
I'm using JDeveloper and SQL Developer in the perspective to verify if it is possible and effective to use only Oracle tools in the project.
I like to work with JDeveloper to edit pl/sql code and i like to have my code in database offline object maintained into subversion.
I'm able to compile these sources in my different platform (development system, test alpha, test beta and final testing instance directly from JDeveloper.
That's fine except JDeveloper didn't return a compile status or a list of compile errrors like in SqlDeveloper. So I need to use SqlDeveloper in parallel of JDeveloper.
This is the beginning of my problems.
SqlDeveloper may have some editor open with source code into I updated into JDeveloper (depends on the change to do, some changes a done in SqlDeveloper to correct some errors and the code is refreshed from the instance into JDeveloper, and more important changes are done in JDeveloper and compiled (loaded) in the instance) and loaded (compiled) into my instance.
When the packages tree is already displayed in SqlDeveloper, the status of the package (valid, invalid) didn't change immediately. That is normal because SqlDeveloper don't know i change it from JDeveloper. I think it check it when i click on the package or the body node. The problem is that the code is not reloaded into the editor if it is opened and i you recompile your package without refreshing all the packages list you will recompile the older version and search sometimes a long time why your package didn't compile after the changes you done in JDeveloper (mainly after 6pm and a day of developing and compiling ) !!!!
The only reason to use both JDeveloper and SqlDeveloper in this phase is the fact that JDeveloper didn't return compile status and a compile error list.
With theses features I will no more use SqlDeveloper for such developing purposes (still using it to debug, obtain object definition, customize database object for some physical properties, etc) and avoid those bad manipulations.micwic --
I logged bug6508875 for this.
One suggestion in the meantime until we can get compile errors directed to the log window for offline objects...
You can open the Database Navigator to point to the same db connection. After generating the offline PL/SQL to the db, refresh the connection in the DB navigator. You will see any invalid objects flagged with an error icon. Then you can right-click on the PL/SQL with the error, and "Make" it. This will display the errors in the log window, similar to SQL Developer.

Hi,
One month back,I did migration of mysql to oracle using sql developer. It took around 2-3 hours to finish. But when I am again migrating the same database, the estimated time is around 150 hours. There were no big changes in the database in one month. Its taking a very long time to capture constraints.
Scenario is as follows
test(MySQL) --> test(Oracle schema) took 2-3 hours
test1(MySQL) --> hms(Oracle schema) ongoing from last 6 hours and expected finish time around 150 hoursPlease advise
ThanxHi,
I am unable to replicate the issues here.
I created a 500 table MySQL database with constraints on each table and it captured online quickly.
My only guess is there is some additional load on one of your machines which maybe slowing down the process?
As an alternative path, you could attempt the offline capture of your database.
* Tools > Migration > Create Database Capture Script
* Choose MySQL 5 windows or whatever suits
* Run these scripts on your MySQL machine (with MySQL client) to dump out the databases metadata
* Move all the files to your SQL Developer machine
* Capture Offline the mysql5.ocp
Sorry I couldn't have been more help

Problem accessing SQL Developer with user sys
Hi Experts;
I'm working with Oracle 10G, in Solaris 10, The DB apparently is working properly, but I can not access the DB thru SQL Developer. When I try to acccess with user sys, and I enter de password, in oracle role I select sysdba, when I choose connect I get this error message:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
However, I can connect with other user without any problem.
I was connecting directly in the server, with sqlplus /as sysdba and I changed the password for user sys, but still the problem continues.
What is wrong with this. I got the same problem if try to connect thru OEM.
Thanks and regards

Thank you for answer.
First, I'm completely sure I'm using the correct password, to be sure I changed the password thru sqlplus.
I'm using tns connection, btw, with the same connection, I can connect, but with other user.
I was trying again, however, with the same results previous explained.
But also I have the same problen when I tried to connect to OEM, and I was trying to stop the dbconsole, and found this:

Connected.

Apparently, there is problem with the tnsnames. When I see the tnsnames in SQL DEVELOPER I see this: YAWIDBLA
So, here is the tnsname, in order you have a better idea, what I have.
YAWIDBLA =

Is the first time I see this kind of problem.
Have an idea of what's happening;

Administration of APEX in SQL Developer with Proxy Authentication impossibl
Hello!
We are using latest version of SQL Developer to administer APEX. We are connecting to the database with proxy authentication. The syntax is:
personal_user[apex_ws_owner]
e.g.: mdecker[apex_demo]
When trying to deploy APEX application I go to "Database Object" -> Application Express -> Application1 [100] -> right mouse click: "Deploy Application". Then I select the appropriate database identifier and next, I am presented with a screen showing import options. In second line, it says: "Parsing Schema: MDECKER".
This is wrong: it has to be Parsing Schema: APEX_DEMO. It seems that managing APEX with SQL Developer does not support Proxy Authentication.
Could you please confirm?
Is there a way to formally ask for this enhancement?
Best regards,
Martin
Update:
I found out that if I check the flag "Proxy Authentication" in the connect details and provide both passwords, the deploy application parsing schema is set to the correct APEX_DEMO account. However, we are using Proxy Authentication in order to avoid having to know the application password.
Edited by: mdecker on Jan 28, 2013 4:48 PMThere is a write-up about connecting to APEX here: <a href ="http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/sql_dev_integration.html" >SQL Dev Oracle APEX Integration</a>

Is Oracle database Compatible with Times Ten database?
Hello All,
I need to use a temporary database in Oracle for some months.
Later on, I will need to migrate all data to a Times Ten database.
1. My doubt is if Oracle and Times Ten databases are compatible with
each other (specially when having this kind of cases) ?
2. In case the answer is YES to question 1, I would like to know if there are some
restrictions in that compatibility (type of data, any other issue, etc)
Best Regards
RubénRuben,
There are two areas you shoul look into regarding your project: SQL functionality and data types. TimesTen 6.0 supports a subset of the SQL features and data types currently available in the Oracle DB; also, TimesTen supports some native numberic data types that are not available in the Oracle DB.
If your end-game is to use the TimesTen database, then I would start with the TimesTen API and SQL Reference Guide (http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/timesten_doc.html)
Use the SQL functionality documented for TimesTen and pay attention to the common data types. For example, VARCHAR is handled differently from VARCHAR2 (where trailing spaces exist), DATE and Timestamp are handled differently, etc. Additionally, keep in mind most numeric values are declared using NUMBER in the Oracle DB, but not in TimesTen.
If you are an existing TimesTen licensed customer, please let us know your support ID(CSI) and we can contact you with more information on our future release plan to address SQL and data types compatibility.
By the way, what's the timeline for your project?

How to Update Absence Quota with Time Evaluation
Dear Friends,
I would like to know how do we update absence quota within time evaluation. Currently i'm using UPDTQAXX, it works but when i search this forum everybody was using this simple code:
HRS=something
ADDDBxxxx
and the quota is updated. I just dont get it, with adddb its only update the daily balance table, how does that enable us to updated the 2006 infotype? Many ThanksADDDBxxxx adds the value of the number of hours field to the specified time type in the table of day balances (TES), it does not update the quota.
You can use function QUOTA to accrue absence entitlements periodically based on this customizing: Personnel Time Management>Time Data Recording and Administration>Managing Time
Accounts Using Attendance/Absence Quotas>Calculating Absence Entitlements>Rules for
Generating Absence Quotas>Define Generation Rules for Quota Selection.
You can use a time type to prorate that accrual -

I have ensure that all my entities have the Engineer To property set to a valid Relational Model.
Is this a bug or am I missing a menu option / configuration setting?
Thanks in advance for any help
JohnHi John,
you can find ">> Engineer to Relational Mode" button among other buttons for logical diagram.
