Unattended install asking for reboot despite /noreboot switch

Hi,
Until 9.4.0, we have been installing Adobe Reader on the windows platform using the EXE downloaded from adobe with the switches "/msi /qn /noreboot"
However, when we install 9.4.0 with those switches, it installs fine but asks the user if they would like to reboot. As we are installing this update as part of a scheduled routine which performs other tasks overnight, we would like the installer to not prompt for reboot as we do this at the end of our maintenance routine.
Any help appreciated.
Regards,
Chris

Hi,
Thanks for the answers. This has been an issue I have not had time to get back to but the posts have been coming in by email.
Leo I will try what you have suggested with the reallysuppress switch, and let you know how I get on.
Regards,
Chris

  • IWork install asking for serial number even though installed from disc set

Ok so two days ago I bought a MacBook Pro from Best Buy. It was one of those open package deals. Anyhow the MacBook was missing the software. I decided it might be a good idea to buy the Mac Box Set at the local Apple Store because I might need the OS disc at some point and I thought why not upgrade my iMac while I'm at it. So I went to an Apple Store and bought the Mac Box Set
I install Snow Leopard. I then install iLife. Lastly I install iWork. Sort of. Seems the first two are fine but when I click to open any of the iWork apps it ask for me to insert a serial number. I did a search and discovered there was a trial version of iWork 08 on here so I deleted it and the current instal. The reinstalled. Still same issue.
What should I do if it is still asking for a serial number?
And just incase anyone is wondering if I have the disk....

Good, there are many answered threads to your specific question.

  • Trial install asks for disk to install - CS6 Master Suite

I installed the Master Suite collection quite a while ago on a previous computer with no problem. Now though, I'm being asked for a disk just to go through with a trial installation.
I'll clck on "trial" installation choice. I'll click on "next" and it'll look like it's going to install. However, after a few moments, it'll stop and ask me to insert the disk to continue. It's a trial, so what disk?

    what os?
what are the file names/extensions that you downloaded and are they all in the same directory?

  • Downloading Acrobat XI(Upgarde Acrobat install asking for previous qualifying serial number)

I've just downloaded Acrobat XI and it is telling me that the serial number is not for a qualifying product. The drop down does not list Acrobat XI as an option.  How can I complete this download?

    Hi bjohnsmiller,
    Welcome to Adobe Forum,
I did check the order of Acrobat 11 standard purchased last year. It is an upgrade, When an upgrade is installed, it asks for previous qualifying serial number to complete the installation.
Incase you do not have the previous qualifying serial number then you can :-
    1. Return the product (if within 30 days of purchase) & buy a full version
    2. Incase the purchase is more than 30 days old purchase, you can contact Adobe support http://adobe.ly/yxj0t6 as you will assisted to install with exception granted to you.
Hope it helps you. Please inbox me privately with your call back number to assists you. Please mark this post correct or helpful if you find the information helpful. We value your opinion.

  • Install asks for a disk?

I downloaded Illustrator CS5.1 (for Mac) after purchasing it online. But during the install process it asks for a disk. How do I install the software without a disk? I thought everything I needed was in the downloaded files?

Yes, you only need your download. However, you may have other Adobe software on the system that you once installed using a disk and it messes with the AI installer. The best way to resolve such issues is to run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool and start with a clean slate.

  • Lightroom 5.7 just installed, asking for serial number, not listed in online account info

My online account info shows serial numbers for versions 2,3, and 4 of Lightroom, but not 5.  I've been using 5.2 for about a year, since I signed up for the cc photography bundle.  My cc desktop app shows only PS cc and PS 2014 installed.  How can I get a valid serial number to activate the LR 5.7 I just installed as an update?

I have the same thing happen to me. Every time I start Aperture, it asks for the license. Once I have entered the license key it lets me use the application. However, the next time I use the application again, i get the same problem. I have tried reinstalling the application, and am asked for the license key at the beginning of the install and again once the package is started. To no avail. And I get no other messages.
I called Apple Support, and after booking a call with a support person (a Genius?), I got one who, after reading the summary of my problem in the service request, said simply "this is for Aperture? Aperture is a Microsoft product, you have to call Microsoft". And that was that.
    Please, anyone have any ideas?

  • Flash Player will not install:  Asks for authentication of a proxy server.

Trying to install Flash Player.  The installer asks for confirmation of a proxy server:  American Family Online.   This is a third party content filter that I used over 3 years ago, but no longer use.   I cannot authenticate, since I do not use this service anymore.  this prevents me from installing Flash Player.  I cannot find a reference to this in browser settings or security settings and do not currently use a proxy server.  What do I need to do to get past this and install Flash Player?

Could you check the progress of the install.

  • Mail Keep asking for password despite saving....

    Hi there,
I use POP Hotmail using the mail program. It all works fine but I do keep getting asked for the password often even though this has been set up on the mail program and using hotkeys.
It's a little problem but a rather annoying one, any suggestion greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance

if deleting and recreating keychain items doesn't fix it, you could, for no particular reason, try reapplying the 10.6.1 update (and generally speaking, for 10.6.2 and beyond, always reapply the combo update not the incremental update).
Reapplying (combo) updates has been known to fix a myriad of strange problems that people have experienced with Tiger and Leopard, as apparent by old threads in iChat and Mail and other forums. In fact, when updates are released, with the exception of .0➛.1 updates, I always apply the combo, not the incremental, updates.
OF course, no guarantees that this strategy will fix your problem, but it shouldn't hurt anything, either. Recommend that you run disk utility verify (and repair if necessary) hard drive and disk utility repair permissions before reapplying combo updates.
One other thing, as a test, you might try (temporarily) creating this mail account in another user account and see if the same thing happens.

  • Mail keeps asking for password despite a healthy keychain

So I've run across the problem where Mail constantly asks for the password even though I have it stored in a keychain. I have searched the board and tried every solution proposed. I have repaired the keychain and deleted and reset the password ... everything. It seemed to work for a couple of days ... then BAM! It started happening again. A solution would be extremely helpful as it is very annoying to continually plug in the password every hour or so.

I have the same issue. A previous thread on the topic was closed (although unresolved), so I guess this is where we can discuss possible solutions. Here's one curious thing I've noticed that helps me manage the issue (but doesn't resolve it):
At first when Mail started asking for passwords for all my accounts (even though before they had been working fine), I entered each one and also checked the box saying that it could be stored in the Keychain. But Mail just kept re-asking for the passwords non-stop, making the app unusable. So then I tried entering the passwords but not checking the box to save the passwords in the keychain, and lo and behold, that worked. However, I still have to re-enter the passwords every time I re-open Mail. This is very annoying, and I've even started using Outlook a bit, but Mail is so much better that I'm really hoping to find a solution to this issue.
(As with the OP, I've tried the keychain repair solutions and so forth. I wish I could pinpoint what might have triggered this behaviour to start suddenly just a week ago, but I'm just not sure.)
I wonder if there's a way to edit how Mail interacts with server...

  • CVI_RET.MSI asks for reboot - how to suppress ?

    hi all,
have a bigger QT-project with a handful tools inside. these are written in CVI. I only want to copy these exe-files into the project. it makes no sense to build an installer to every tool. but I have to install the CVI_RTE on the target-machine once.
I did this over a "msiexec.exe /i "CVI_RTE.msi" /qb" - call inside the installer. this runs ok. the only problem is, that the reboot-demand comes up at the end and if the user decides to say "yes" this isn't a good idea inside the installation process.
is there a possibility to suppress this ? or set a "no" over the command-line before ???
    best regards
    Simon

I'm not an expert of complex installations so I googled for more info about msiexec.exe and I found http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa372024(v=vs.85).aspx
    Here is an extract:
    Option
    Parameters
    Meaning
    /help
Help and quick reference option. Displays the correct usage of the setup command including a list of all switches and behavior. The description of usage can be displayed in the user interface. Incorrect use of any option invokes this help option.
    Example: msiexec /help
Note  The equivalent Windows Installer Command-Line Option is /?.
    /quiet
Quiet display option. The installer runs an installation without displaying a user interface. No prompts, messages, or dialog boxes are displayed to the user. The user cannot cancel the installation. Use the /norestart or /forcerestart standard command-line options to control reboots. If no reboot options are specified, the installer restarts the computer whenever necessary without displaying any prompt or warning to the user.
    Examples:
    msiexec /package Application.msi /quiet
    Msiexec /uninstall Application.msi /quiet
    Msiexec /update msipatch.msp /quiet
    Msiexec /uninstall msipatch.msp /package Application.msi / quiet
Note  The equivalent Windows Installer Command-Line Option is /qn.
    /passive
Passive display option. The installer displays a progress bar to the user that indicates that an installation is in progress but no prompts or error messages are displayed to the user. The user cannot cancel the installation. Use the /norestart or /forcerestart standard command-line options to control reboots. If no reboot option is specified, the installer restarts the computer whenever necessary without displaying any prompt or warning to the user.
    Example: msiexec /package Application.msi /passive
Note  The equivalent Windows Installer Command-Line Option is /qb!- withREBOOTPROMPT=S set on the command line.
    /norestart
Never restart option. The installer never restarts the computer after the installation.
    Example: msiexec /package Application.msi /norestart
Note  The equivalent Windows Installer command line has REBOOT=ReallySuppress set on the command line.
I hope it's useful. Let me know...
