Unauthorized use of Skype Credit

Hello. Until yesterday I had $9.xx in Skype credit from a previous purchase. Now I have $7.xx and went to my account to figure out why. Turns out someone has been using my account to make calls to Malaysia while I was at work or sleeping. Any help/suggestions on how to get my credit back and secure my account completely? I have already changed my password and I'm considering looking into blocking the number they've been calling. I know I'm not missing a lot of credit but I'm really more concerned about how secure my account is now. I have a screen shot of the call history if necessary. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the Skype Community,
Were you signed in to Skype recently on a public computer (internet cafe, computer at a friend's place etc.) and maybe haven't signed out there? - Good news ist you will have blocked this option now by having changed your password.
Other option: If you have linked your Skype with your Microsoft account and your Microsoft account is used to sign in on a Windows 8.1 computer the Skype app there will use this account to sign in.

  • Unauthorized use of Skype account

I'm not an active Skype user, as such my account has been in a sleeping state for years. Until about a month ago I suddenly got multiple payments on Paypal from my Skype account, and started receiving a lot of e-mails from an apparantly chinese Skype mail adress.
The Paypal payments have been blocked and refunded but the e-mails continue and after logging in to my Skype account I found out there have been multiple calls to Macedonia and Marocco as wel as a lot of messages tot foreign (mostly US and Russian numbers).
How do I resolve this or preferably just completely remove the Skype account since I don't use it myself and only run the risk of hackers&piracy.

Hi, Nsjmollers,  and welcome to the Community,
Here is information on how to remove a Skype account and disable its use permanently:
    http://community.skype.com/t5/Security-Privacy-Trust-and/How-Do-I-Delete-My-Skype-Account/td-p/31461...
In addition to the above, please permit me to point out that the first step ought to be signing on to your account and removing any saved payment methods.  Report these fraudulent purchases to Skype Customer Service; you may do so at the same time you contact Skype Customer Service to request your account be removed.
Also remember to sign on to your PayPal account and cancel what is called the "payment agreement" with Skype.
Ensure the registered e-mail addresses for your Skype and PayPal accounts are correct and still working, and then change both account passwords.
    Regards,
    Elaine

  • Use skype credit for subscription

    Hi evertone,
I was wonderen if I could use my Skype credit to pay for a subscription.
I've got enough money in my account to pay for the one I would like to use plus I can remember, that I could use my credit whilst having an automatic (renewing every month) subscription.
    Thanks for your help

Hello and welcome to the Skype Community.
Skype Credit isn't available to purchase Subscriptions to everyone, The best way to check if you can use this funding option is to proceed through this purchase flow of your chosen Subscription. If the option is presented it means that you can use and vice-versa.

  • Re: My inactive skype credit cannot be reactivated

As per other posters, I have received the email prompting me to reactivate my credit.  But yet again the email is misleading (I've seen this before, some time ago & still not rectified).  It states:
"But don't worry - once it becomes inactive, you can reactivate it whenever you're ready to use it. Simply sign into your account online and follow the option to Reactivate credit.".
Firstly, if I log in to my Skype account direct from Skype.com, I do not see any option to 'Reactivate'!  I then searched forums and found this link: https://secure.skype.com/portal/settings/credit/reactivate.  If I login via this I do get 'Reactivate Skype Credit' at top of screen with a back (left facing) arrow next to it which appears to be the clickable option.  However, if I click on this all it does is takes me back to a page saying "Your Skype Credit becomes inactive in nn day(s)."  I first assumed there was a time delay on this, but no.  I've logged in a few days later and still does not appear to be reactivated.
If Skype send an email, it would help if the instructions bore some relation to the reality!  Despite numerous attempts, I still do not appear to have reactivated my credit.  PLEASE advise how one can actually do this.
(I am mindful of one of designer Dieter Rams's famous 'ten commandments': "Good design is self-explanatory".  In this respect, Skype's website/process certainly isn't good design).

This is really interesting. It seems as if Microsoft/Skype deleted my old posts, or made them difficult to find, and forgot to take me off my own thread. I created this thread sometime ago to find a solution to my inactive skype credit.
I was able to get my credits reactivated, but to the people that asked me how to do it, I couldn't give them an answer. I received an "update internet explorer" post. But at that time, I didn't do any such thing since I do not understand how IE and Skype are related. Nevertheless my credits seemed to reappear. I have since let the credits go back into inactive mode out curiosity. I've logged my post and saved to my records this time, so hopefully, it will stay up, and this problem can keep receiving exposure.
As I typed this I remember now that I posted Skype's terms of conditions. Here is section 9.2 from their February 25, 2015 version of Skype's terms and conditions. It reads:
"9.2 Inactive Skype Credit. If you do not use your Skype Credit for a period of 180 days, (including Skype Credit that has been allocated to you by a Skype Manager administrator or another Skype user) Skype will place your Skype Credit on inactive status. You can reactivate the Skype Credit by following the reactivation link in My Account at https://secure.skype.com/account/credit-reactivate. Reactivated Skype Credit is not refundable."
So, if you haven't tried to go to that link, I would do that first. Hope this helps.

  • Subscriptions / skype credit

    Good morning!!
Sunday I have ordered two skype subscriptions. I have checked my bank account and on both I was charged more than I remembered calculating. Well, sure enough I have checked on here, on both orders a $5.00 skype credit was added to it. Is that normal? Did I forget to uncheck a box or something??
Hope I can get help on this, not planning to pay additional $10.00 if I don't even use the skype credit.

  • Skype Credit Stolen

About 11 days ago someone started making calls using my skype credit.  I did not notice I was out until a few days ago.  I have been trying to send skype customer service a mesage.  Security drop down then report fradulent activity drop down.  Keeps coming back as we are experiencing some problems try again later.
Well I am not adding anymore credit until this is resolved.
I am glad I do not have automatic add funds or I would be broke.  I would suggest to anyone to turn off this feature and do not store a credit card with any online business.

    Dear Readers,
Your reports read as if your accounts have been compromised ("hacked").  This FAQ article details next steps:
    https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA10384/why-has-my-credit-debit-card-been-charged-by-skype-when-i-h...
To reiterate, please do change your Skype account as well as the payment method account passwords immediately if you have not already done so.  If you use a third-party payment processor, such as PayPal, do change that account password as well and report these incidents to them.
As a proactive measure, you may also wish to run your preferred anti-virus/malware/spyware suite using the most recent virus signature files available.  Ensure all system updates and patches are installed, as outdated software can be taken advantage of when vulnerabilities are discovered.
If you experience problems reaching Skype Customer Service, try using a different web browser than you customarily use.  One of the technical gurus here in the Community enlightened me that sometimes scripting errors can cause these types or issues.

  • My credit card has been used with Skype but I have...

My credit card has been used for a Skype transaction that I have no knowledge of.
The credit card which has been used is in no way assocaited with this Skype account or any other and never has been.
For some strange reason, this seems to be the only way to report fraudulent activity from Skype, even though I am not a customer.
Is this board post the only way to contact Skype about this matter?

    Ethan83:
This excerpt from the FAQ article I referred to:
Your card has been used fraudulently
It is possible that your card has been used fraudulently to buy Skype Credit. We take every precaution to ensure that only genuine transactions get processed; however, criminals have developed a number of techniques, such as random card generators or using stolen card lists, to gain access to an individuals’ credit/debit card information.
If your card is a credit card, you are not liable for this transaction in any way. All major credit card companies have policies that protect you against this kind of fraud.
If your card is a debit card, your financial institution is required to reimburse you for fraudulent transactions.
We strongly recommend that you contact your card issuer immediately regarding any unauthorized transactions and ensure that no further fraudulent charges are made with your card.
We will also begin an investigation to locate and block the fraudulent orders related to your credit/debit card in our system. If you have a Skype account, please contact our customer service with the following information:
The first six and last four digits of the credit card used to make the purchase. IMPORTANT: Do not send the full credit card number.
The name of the cardholder as written on the card.
The issuing country of the card.
The exact dates (or order numbers) of the fraudulent charges on your credit card statement.
We want to emphasize that this action will only stop the fraudulent orders in our system – it won't solve any other fraudulent charges on your card. It is therefore vital that you contact the financial institution that owns your card.
Click on the link included in the text above, "contact our customer service."  Skype uses instant message chat with a customer service agent combined with web forms as their customer support.  As this FAQ states, We don’t provide support over the telephone.

    Hi, a quick one.
I already had a skype credit of around $25 when I subcribed for a monthly subscription plan for calls on mobile phone from skype installed on PC. I want to know whether my skype credit will be exhausted for the calls or the minutes from subscription?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Package will be used first. When you run out of minutes then cost will be covered by Skype Credit.
Please also keep in mind that payment for subscription is taken 3 days before subscription ends.
It means that if you run out of minutes after new order was delivered (basically within these 3 days), then your call will be also paid from Skype Credit.
    I hope it is clear

Hi, Catarinarp, and welcome to the Community!
First things, first: contact the company that issues your credit card to report fraudulent purchases and to ensure no other fraudulent purchases have been posted to your account.   Next, change your account password immediately.  Further, ensure your computer system or device operating system software updates are downloaded and installed; update the virus signature files and run your anti-virus software.
