Unauthorized user for purchased songs

After upgrading to itunes 7 and updating my software, I keep being told to "authorize" my previously purchased songs. When I enter in my user ID and password, I get the message that says it was successful, but then when I go to play, I get the same message all over again. I tried to uninstall quicktime and have read other posts about downgrading back to older version of itunes (which I wouldn't mind doing). What will be the easiest thing to do so I can listen to this music again? Thanks,
Sherri

Did you attempt to re-authorize? Any time you do something like an OS re-install, iTunes views this as a "new" computer & requires the system to be re-authorized. The down side to this is, if you didn't deauthorize as suggested before any majore repairs, including OS re-install, you will be using a 2nd authorization on the same computer.

  • Failed hard drive-Can I switch authorization for purchased songs to new HD?

I have a pc that had a hard drive failure, I had a back up of my library and playlists so I was able to import to the new hard drive but all my purchased songs say that this is not an authorized pc. I can authorize it, but that will use up one of my 5 allowed and this is the same pc. Is there any way for me to transfer the authorization to the new hard drive? Thanks

You'll have to authorise the new hard drive just as if it was a different computer, you can't deauthorise a 'dead' installation on it's own. However once you've reached the limit of 5 authorisations, you have the option once a year to deauthorise them all in one go: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • IPod Photo won't display album artwork for purchased songs

I bought some songs on the ITunes Music Store, and I can see the album artwork on the ITunes, I can also see in my IPod the artwork for most of the songs that I've downloaded, but I CAN'T see the artwork for those recently purchased.
I also noticed that when I purchased songs I had a duplicated file for each one of them, stored in \iTunes\iTunes Music\ and \My Downloads\ respectively, so I deleted the copies from \My Downloads\
Bottom line is, I can see all the album artwork in my iTunes, but my iPod Photo won't display some of it (specifically, the songs that I purchased)

Probably, the easiest way to resolve this is to copy the artwork from one song on an album and paste it into every song on that album.
In your iTunes Library, choose an album that has artwork issues; choose one track that has the artwork and copy it. Then:
the slightly longer method is to check each song individually, until you find the one with the missing artwork. Paste (the copy previously made) from one of the other tracks on the album.
a slightly quicker method is to highlight all the songs on that album (make sure it is just that one album) and paste the artwork into the box.
Sync the iPod with your iTunes Library.

  • Re-download artwork for purchased songs

I noticed that iTunes 7 hasn't actually transferred artwork out of the song tags of previously purchased songs so I thought I'd delete the artwork and use the Get Album Artwork feature. I wanted it to be more efficient and use the new method of storing one cover per album instead one inside every track. It doesn't work even though the songs are clearly in the store, so I had to copy the artwork back in manually. I only tried it on a couple of songs so no harm done.
There seems to be a block on using the service to download covers for iTunes purchased tracks. Is this correct?

There seems to be a block on using the service to download covers for iTunes purchased tracks. Is this correct?
    No, not in my experience.
This is what I did with an album I purchased over a year ago:
Select all tracks of the album.
    Get Info
    Check 'Artwork'
    Click OK
All artwork will be removed from the tracks (I did save a copy in case it didn't work or the album was not available anymore)
Still, with all tracks selected, Get Album Artwork.
Presto. 1 picture (.itc file)appearing in the Download folder.
Selecting only one track will also get the artwork.
The new file which appeared in the Download folder was detected by GraphicConverter as having a jpeg datastream. After decoding it showed the correct picture.
    Hope this helps.

  • Replaced HD and now I can't get authorization for purchased songs

I've had to erase & install 2x in the last year and then about a month ago, my HD finally crashed and burned.
Today I tried to play a song I purchased prior to the crash (and backed up on a separate drive) and I'm being told the song is not authorized to play on this computer. When I punched in my ID and password, I get the same window with the following in red type: "Field name: null.java.lang.Exception"
I paid for the song and now I can't play it?

While I'm unsure of the error message, assuming your Apple ID info was correct when you entered it, it sounds to me like you might have hit the limit for the amount of computers which you can authorise a DRM protected (Non iTunes Plus) song for, as each erase & install most likely counted (at least to iTunes) as a new computer and authorisation.
Anyway, your best bet is probably to open iTunes, then on the Store menu, click View My Account, then after signing in, check the number of machines it says are authorised to play music used with this account, assuming that number is five, click the Deauthorize All button. Once that's done, try to play one of the your purchased tracks again, sign in, and hopefully your music should play.

  • Upgraded and lost music library except for purchased songs

I followed the upgrade prompt, and it wiped out my entire music library and playlists except for those songs I had purchased on I-tunes. The hundreds I downloaded from my own purchased CDs are gone. Help!

I had this happen to me a year ago when I upgraded from an older version. I was saddened when I lost all of my library. I then tried to install the older version that I still had in my recycle bin, and then by some miracle I got back my whole library. To this day I do not know what I did to restore it as I don't understand this process very well. But one thing I do know I will not upgrade. I still have iTunes 6.0 and will keep it. BUT I have another post out there because I can not burn a disk of one of my files. I keep getting the message "iTunes has to close now ...sorry for the inconvience etc." I need an answer to that question. Hopefully someone will be able to help me.

  • When do i have to pay for purchased songs?

I tried to pay but something blocked my card and i'm getting a message that my payment method was declined. I contacted the bank they said i have money in the card and it's been used two days ago so it's ok but my money are blocked and it will take up to 45 days to unblocked them and they are not sure if i put more money that they won't be blocked as well. I don't have another card. Now i have to pay for two songs but can i wait until the money are unblocked? I read the terms of use and it's said that i'm responsible for the timely payment for items i've purchased, but what does timely payment mean- how long can i wait?

Timely payment means at the time of purchase, officially. If you've purchased songs and didn't have a valid payment method and hence now owe the iTunes Store money, then your iTunes Store account will most likely be blocked until such time as you can get the card unblocked or provide a different payment method. If you can't provide another card, then you will need to either wait until your existing card is unblocked or get a prepaid iTunes card and redeem that.
    Regards.

  • Files for purchased songs not located

I have tried to transfer some recently purchased songs from Itunes into my library as it wasn't happening automatically. Some of them come up with an exclamation mark and say the file cannot be located. Tried to search but don't really know where to look. I could understand if they had been imported from another source but I just bought them. Help!

Nevermind. I was looking in the wrong place. Found it in the store under purchases.

  • Not authorized for purchased songs

I had to reinstall my computer. I had already bought some songs in the iTunes store. As I now have reinstalled my computer and therefore reinstalled iTunes 7.x.x again, iTunes tells me, that my already purchased songs can't be reloaded as I'm not authorized. When I access the iTunes store and click on my purchase history it shows me exactly all the songs I bought already.¨
How do I get these songs bnack into my library? I have them already stored in a folder but whenever I try to load these files back to the library the error occurs telling me, that I'm not allowed to hace these purchased songs on my iPod.
    Would appreciate any support!

  • HT201209 Why was my credit card still billed for purchased songs after my gift card was correctly entered?

I recently entered the information into iTunes for a gift card.  All information was entered correctly, and I got a message confirming that.  After this point, I purchased a song from iTunes, but I still received an email today to inform me of my purchase and to let me know that the 99¢ had been charged to my credit card.  Can anyone help me with this?

Assuming you were not buying a gift for someone else - gifts cannot be purchased using a credit balance - another user in the forums posted this as the reply from the iTunes Store when this issue was brought up. Perhaps it will help you. Regards.
I'm sorry you weren't able to make a purchase using your store credit. To purchase items on the iTunes Store with your store credit, your account information in your user profile needs to be corrected. I'll walk you through this process to get you back up and running in no time.
    1) Visit the My Apple ID website at:  http://appleid.apple.com
    2) If the site is not displayed in your preferred language, click the Change Language link in the upper-right corner, type the name of your language in the field that appears, then click the Save button.
    3) Click the "Manage your account" link.
    4) Type your iTunes Store account name (which is your Apple ID) in the Apple ID field, type your password in the password field, then click the Sign In button.
    5) Click "Addresses" in the column on the left. If you have multiple shipping addresses, remove any out-of-date or duplicate addresses by clicking Delete. Also, make sure the state or province field is filled out correctly for each address. To edit an address, click Edit. Edit all of your shipping addresses and make sure the appropriate state is selected in the State drop-down menus.
    6) Now click "Phone Numbers" on the left. The area codes should be in the area code fields and the phone numbers should be in the phone number fields. If an area code is missing, or if it is in a phone number field, your account information may not save properly.
    7) Make any other necessary corrections, then click the Save Changes button.
    8) Click Log out in the upper-right corner.  When you make your next purchase on the iTunes Store, you will be asked to review your billing information. At this point, you can change your information or simply click Done at the bottom of the screen to proceed. Once you click Done, you should be able to purchase on the iTunes Store using your store credit.

  • Download error for purchased song

I purchased a song from iTunes on my iPhone but keep getting a "Download error." Any ways to fix this?
I have never had this problem until downloading iOS 7 in case it is related.

On a whim I decided to try downloading a different song. This new song downloaded instantly and then the song that kept giving a "download error" finally downloaded. Go figure.
In case that doesn't work for you, Apple support sent me a message with the following suggestions (though the suggestions don't seem particularly helpful)...
    Thank you for contacting Apple.
Based on the details you provided, we think you might find the following information helpful:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
Downloading past purchases from the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    Sincerely,
    Apple Support

  • -50 error message for purchased songs

    Hi,
I've been having this problem for a couple months now and have been in contact with apple support (via phone and email) several times, but to no avail. I can't play any of the songs that I've purchased through iTunes; each one played just fine a couple months ago.
Whenever I try to play one of these songs, a window pops up that says, "This computer is not authorized to play 'NAME OF SONG.' Would you like to authorize it?" This is weird because I have never deauthorized my computer. After I enter my password and click the "authorize" button another window pops up that says, "We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occurred (-50). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later."
Has anyone else had this problem? Nobody on the apple support lines has been able to offer any solutions (although I have gotten many suggestions). Please help.
    Thanks,
    Bassic11
    MacBook 1,1   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   iTunes version 7.2

I used the support document and it fixed the problem. Thanks! However, after I deleted the NetworkInterfaces.plist file and restarted the computer, I was still able to connect to the Internet (contrary to what the support document said would happen), so I just skipped the last five steps.
My only concern is that I have now used 3 of the 5 authorizations. If this problem happens again, I may run out of authorizations.
