Unbearably slow wi-fi?

Is anyone else finding wifi on iPhone 4 to be unbearably slow? I'm stuck waiting for my sim to activate, so it's the only connection to me, but with my 3GS side-by-side, the speeds I'm getting on wifi on iPhone 4 are twice as slow or more as 3G speeds on the 3GS. Could I have a faulty unit?

Actually mine wifi seems better. When I used to go outside at work with my 3gs, it'd drop the connection to the office wireless and then I'd have to sign in again once I got back inside. Now it's held the connection after being out there (in the same area) twice this morning.

  • Macbook Air 2014 unbearable slow

Ever since I updated to Yosemite back in October, my macbook air has been so god **** slow. I can't get **** done on it, and my fans are overheating all the time. When I start IntelliJ, the CPU overclocks itself to 300%, same goes for photoshop. I can't even get anything done on my laptop anymore, and using an exernal screen is almost not worth it because of all the lag on the graphics and overall performance. It feels like I'm using this laptop back in 2008 with 2003 hardware and ADSL internet.
    Problem description:
Macbook Air is generally slow, the animations are laggy, safari is unbearable slow and I can’t have Photoshop and safari on at the same time for example without suffering so much lag, and the fan starting to go on.

  • IMac has been unbearably slow

    Hello,
I purchased this iMac in early 2012, and it has recently become unbearably slow. Creating new folders, loading new tabs in Chrome, just doing basic work on the computer...it all takes frustratingly long! I don't do any heavy graphics processing, just some light gaming, word processing, excel. I have rebooted within the last few days and don't really want to purchase more RAM unless it's absolutely necessary. Just looking for advice on what options I have!

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." • Email review creates workflows file size that makes Acrobat 9 unbearably slow.

I have been using the email review features in Acrobat pro version 9.3.1. All was going fine until, apparently, my workflows file got to around 1.5mb. If I understand correctly this is the file that Review Tracker uses to track PDF emailed for review.
The problem is Acrobat becomes unbearably slow to open and operate.
I narrowed down the reason by opening Acrobat with no plugins loaded and it operated fine. Then by enabling and disabling various plugins I found that when any plug-in having something to do with the commenting and tracking process was enabled acrobat again became unbearably slow. Through searching on this forum I found the workflows file that is created for tracking email reviews. I discovered with all plug-ins enabled and with the workflow file removed acrobat operated fine when I put the file back it again opens and operates unbearably slow.
So I know how to make Acrobat operate correctly by removing the Workflows file. Acrobat will create a new one if I start another review. The big problem is I have lost all my tracking on previous reviews.
I was wondering if anyone else might have had a similar problem when the Workflows file became larger than 1.5mb or so?
Does anyone know of a way I can keep my previous email reviews and still have acrobat operate correctly?
I also wonder if this will happen again?
Thank you for your time and knowledge.

Flattening should be expected to make files bigger, much bigger in the worst case. It is rarely a way to reduce size, though sometimes it will be - it all depends on what is in the file.
An example where it could reduce size is where a series of images are overlayed transparently. This would end up being a single one. There may be cases where lots of layers get consolidated into something simpler, but if the layers were vector and the result is raster it won't.
So, flattening might be a useful tool, but it's best to try it and test the result.
Better still to stop the proprietary software from choking... !

  • Unbearably slow Mac book pro

In the last week my mid 2009 17" has gotten unbearably slow. It took 50 minutes to boot up earlier today and I don't know what is causing it. I have upgraded to 8gbs of ram and I have 37 gbs of HD space free(which I know is a little low but it still shouldn't run that slow. I've ran it on 8 gbs for a whole before and it was fine) Could my Hd be dieing???

If any one has an idea what it would be I would greatly Appricate it!

37GB's of free space on a 500GB drive is not sufficient. Rule of thumb.  Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • Glade unbearably slow

    Hello everyone,
I've searched all over but couldn't find many topics about this, and especially not solutions.
My problem is that Glade (the GTK visual GUI builder) is unbearably slow. Whenever I click anything, it takes several seconds to respond.
Does anyone know of a solution? What information could I post to help?
    Some info:
    ‘glade’ package version: 3.10.2-1
    ‘gtk3’ package version: 3.2.2-2
    QT Designer works flawlessly.
    Thanks,
    Nanthiel

    Bump?
I've almost switched over to C++ and Qt.

  • K9copy Unbearably Slow

    Hello,
Recently, I have noticed that k9copy was unbearably slow compared to what it's normally like.  Nearly unresponsive the whole time.  I was wondering if anybody knows a workaround to it, or if it has to do with some KDE libraries (btw, I'm running Gnome).  What used to take it ~20 minutes to backup a DVD is literally taking hours, and it's not even close to being done.  I haven't had a problem for the ~6 months that I've been using it until now.  It also likes to spit out DCOPServer errors and crash eventually, and whilst I Googled it, came up with no useful answers.
If anybody knows why it's acting up, or if they have any suggestions, your help is greatly appreciated.
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    Gnome 2.22.2
k9copy 1.2.3-1 (from AUR) and from version that used to be in the repo.
and the basic requirements for k9copy to run (also had KDE fully installed to see if it would work, but since uninstalled due to program clutter from KDE)
    Thank you in advance.

try running it in a terminal and see if there are any errors, and check and see if you have your hostname in your /etc/hosts file.

  • Unbearably Slow WiFi (Yosemite)

    Fellow Apple users,
I am writing this on my iPhone 6, connected to WiFi, while listening to some music via iTunes Match on my Apple TV, also connected to WiFi. Once Yosemite was finally finished installing on my MBP, I decided to give it a spin. It looks great, The only downside is that my Wi-Fi connection is unbearably slow. I've reset the router and restarted the computer to know avail. As I mentioned before, I am enjoying swift speeds on both my iPhone and my AppleTV, yet it takes upwards of a minute  (sometimes several minutes) to load popular webpages like NYTimes.com or pitchfork.com. Sending messages also take several seconds, when it should be instantaneous. Haven't even attempted a FaceTime video, for it was surely fail.
Is anyone else experiencing this? What should I do? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

My 2014 MacBook Air runs wireless flat out at 300Mbps all day long using a 5Ghz wireless n connection from my 4th gen Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. I don't have one here to test, but the iPhone 6 specs include 5Ghz 802.11n and ac. If your iPhone 6 is sipping on 2.4Ghz wireless g or n, it may be subject to considerable wireless competition in dense apartment, or neighborhood Wi-Fi saturation.
Providing your router supports it, offering your iPhone 6 with a 5Ghz wireless-n or ac connection will improve the WLAN experience — barring a slow ISP Internet package, concurrent streaming media, or Internet anomalies that impact bandwidth.

  • Flash runs unbearably slow on my Powerbook, help!

    Heya,
So I'm running a 12" Powerbook with a 1.33 Ghz G4, 1.25 GB RAM, and an NVidia GeForce FX Go5200 64MB RAM... Flash runs unbearably slow on my machine and it just happened all of the sudden. Although this issue came up the first time about two years ago I just bore the burden of it. But being a web developer it's just ridiculous. Now this only happens with videos, and no it's not related to the buffer, I've read that there an issue with Flash rendering techniques that caused it to slow down dramatically at like Flash 8 or something. I desperately need help resolving this and I'm wondering if anyone can help?? Thanks!

    Hello,
How much available disk space is there?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Your Mac needs free disk space in order to render video. Could that be the issue?
Wouldn't hurt to check the boot disk for errors:
If not, shut down PBook. Now, press the power button, hold down the C key, and insert the restore disk all at the same time. Keep holding down the C key until you see the Apple logo. An Installer window will open but DO NOT proceed with any installations, instead from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Disk Utility. In the DU window, select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab and click: Verify If DU reports errors, click Repair. When it's finished, from the Menu Bar select Utilities/Startup Disk and select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.

  • My iMac boots up unbearably slow.

My iMac has become unbearably slow recently.
It takes over 10 minutes for the computer to boot up and for the dock to appear.
It also takes forever to open a program. But, from my observations, the computer starts to behave normally afree several hours of usage. It was not like this previously.
I have done some Googling and have tried resetting the SMC and PRAM, but it is still the same.
I have over 900GB free in my startup disk, so a lack of storage is not the problem.
    Please help me.

Before you do ANYTHING backup the computer and check the backup. Next run Apple's Hardware Test in Extended Mode 2-3 times back to back, your HD may be failing. The reason to run in multiple times is AHT does not always find errors on the first or second pass, however when it does they are correct. If errors appear then take it to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

  • ITunes Store unbearably slow

Searching for an answer why the Store is unbearably slow to Search, Load or even Respond, and/or even go back to the last page ... I found no answers. Like most who posted on this topic I'm on a broad band connection with enough Memory and plenty fast for everything else including live streaming, but the Store ... is absolutely pushing the limits of patience. The number of items I would have purchased, but gave up trying is probably north of at least $100.
Does anyone have a *definitive answer*, instead of speculation? It's not me, or my set up because everywhere else I navigate to works fine. It's the Store that's driving me nuts.
    Answers, anyone?
(and before you do answer, please know that accessing at various times of the day has no effect, even switching locations and trying two other higher value Mac systems are just as ridiculously slow, even being in other cities on borrowed latest gen laptops is of no use. It's not me, it's not my set up, it's not my DNS, it's not time-of-day, it's not Store Is Busy, it's not location relevant, not platform relevant ... it's Apple .. so, got an answer?)

I did the same thing (switching to Amazon) because the whole iTunes experiences is so utterly useless and maddening. Apple lightened up a little on the DRM for which I commend them responding to sensible market pressure but iTunes is a Franken-beast of an app that forces my quad core 4 gigs of RAM machine to it's knees just to turn the dam thing on. Furthermore, when I want to load a new app or song or picture to my ipod touch it's nearly impossible. Takes forever to recognize the ipod and the methodology of having to erase everything on my ipod to add one more thing is just ridiculous. RIDICULOUS. First app that I find that is usable with the Touch and functions like everyone knows it should and iTunes gets the axe. It's like dealing with big government.

  • IPhoto unbearably slow!!

iPhoto takes ages to load up, when scrolling it will hiccup every, say, 20 photos, opening photo will take a few seconds, and every time I close it, not only does it take 30 seconds to close, but then it'll freeze up my computer for like 10 minutes where everything slows to the most unbearable crawl and almost every application goes "not responding."
Is there anyway to make iPhoto work a little faster, and like not slow my whole computer all the way down? BTW, I have a Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo with 2GB of ram and about 10gb free on the HD.

Have you rebooted your laptop recently? If you tend to just sleep it shut it down and then reboot.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Bridge CC and ACR unbearably slow

Upon researching the issue of a slow Bridge CC I realize I am not alone nor is this a new problem. The thread I read extensively is almost a year old. Despite paying for CC for about 9 months I still use CS6. I had hopes that the new 2014 CC would solve the bridge performance issues.
I am running a six-core system with 32 GB ram, an SSD for my OS and programs, an empty 1.5 TB drive dedicated to cache, on a win 7 - 64bit OS. Bridge CC and camera raw are so slow I can't use them.  My only comparison is CS6 and using the same settings for both programs.
When opening bridge CC to the folder that was previously cached and loaded used it took ~51 seconds of "building criteria" before i could view the file types, ratings, and details in the filter box. In other words I do not see any information in the filters box for that time. I made sure that the thumbs were completely loaded into the cache before I closed Bridge CC and opened the program to the same folder. The same folder in Cs6 takes ~4 second to load..
I have performance issues in ACR too.
I batch edit in ACR like out lightroom counterparts do but Bridge CC Plus ACR are too slow to work with.
I selected the same 20 raw files in each case.
bridge CC camera raw 8.5 took 5 seconds of a watch icon  to load the files into the camera raw dialog after hitting CTRL R
No edits or changes were made to the files.
when i click to the next image in the list (still in camera raw) it takes  0.5-1 second of the watch icon to load the next raw photo in the batch.
in CS6 I selected the same 20 unedited RAW files, CTRL R and they immediately load. I can switch from raw file to RAW file without any hiccup or delay. 5 seconds vs instant. I didn't build a six core system to wait for things to load.
not exactly scientific but that's the disparity I am seeing. Bridge CC is death to me. To make sure I wasn't crazy I clicked on a recent folder with only 80 raw files, 80 respective small jpgs and a couple video files (4.5 gigs of data). It took so long I freaked out that I had moved the files to a backup location instead of copying them. After 30 seconds I stopped counting, opened windows explorer, browsed the backup folder, copied the files and was about to paste them to what should have been the original location and then Bridge decided that it was ready to work. For that ~ 60-85 seconds there was no watch icon, no spinning circle or "building criteria". It just looked as if I was browsing an empty folder.
    Any suggestions?

    c. Once you post something that's helpful I'm sure someone will give you a thanks, until then stop trolling these boards - your name was all over that thread with useless and unhelpful information
Well mister Chuck 'know it al', you can congratulate yourself. With just 2 posts in the past year and no points for helpful answers at al you come in hard and call one of the most helpful posters a troll.
This was the limit for both of us, we had to stand a lot, including no help from Adobe but a more crippled forum website after each major upgrade. No possibility to place FAQs, a lot of people screaming for help without taking the effort to look first for similar problems, almost never providing correct details, crucial for a mixed Mac/Windows forum.
We had to suffer a lot, getting in unpaid and just plain users like all other guests, only it did cost us a lot of spare time.
But now we can rest from this task because mister Chuck "know it al" has jumped in to the rescue.
I wish you good luck and pity your friends and family, it must be a difficult task to live with such a nice person.
    Goodbye to you all!!

  • 3gs unbearable slow and very buggy/crashing after upgrading to iOS4

I have a iPhone 3GS with the most up to date OS (iOS4). Ever since I upgraded to this operating system I have noticed a VERY significant slow down in everything. messages takes ages to open even when "fast app switching". Sometimes up to 10 seconds. Also Ive noticed that my iPod app occasionally skips on songs similar to what CD players used to do when you knock them. I attribute this again to the sluggishness of iOS4. Typing in iOS4 very often results in me typing the message then waiting for 30seconds or more for the phone to register what i typed.
Then loading some apps will take much longer than before and a lot of times (like the farmville app) will load for 20 seconds then crash and take me back to the home screen. (I usually reopen the app and it works the second time)
Then the more annoying part is that my phone frequently freezes up and will either take a minute to unfreeze or about twice a day actually crash and restart the phone. This sort of thing has never happened before with iPhone OS 3. Occasionally that OS would hiccup but it was always speedy.
Ive done the hard reset many times with no improvement. Even tried double resetting (hard resetting twice in a row). Ive also restored my phone to factory settings and wiped it clean twice to see if that would fix it but it didnt.
There is no way it should be this terrible. Apple usually makes amazing products so I cant believe iOS4 has been this bad. Im seriously considering downgrading back to iPhone OS3. At least then it was usable.
If there is anyone out there who knows how to fix this I would greatly appreciate it.

If you restore your iPhone as a new phone (not from a backup), you will simply lose your SMS massages and some application data such as game high scores.
e-mail and wi-fi password information will have to be re-entered but apart from that you won't lose much else at all.
You simply have to sync your phone once you've restored it and all your contacts, calendar, music etc will be copied back over from iTunes

  • LR unbearably slow.  What's up with this?

I recently bought and installed LR v1.1 and just upgraded to 1.2. However, it is so unbelievably slow that it is basically not useable. I have had it for about 3 weeks now, and have yet to even get to teh point where I can create a JPG, however the heck you do that in this crazy program. I have used just about every other mainstream RAW converted and database program, and LR is BY FAR the slowest. Before LR, I was using ACDSee Pro, which was perfect. RAW's would display almost instantly, and converting to JPG was extremely easy and fast. But LR is not. Not even close.
I imported my photo collection, which is just under 29,000 pictures. It took hours to do this. What is this program doing? My database file is over 320 MB, and I have not even done anything yet! Plus, it created 29,000 subfolders, with a file in each. AGAIN, I have not done hardly any editing yet. Why is it creating all this overhead!?! The database folder size totals just over 1 GB now!
Not only that, but when LR gets bogged down, I can see in Task Manager that LR is consuming 500MB to 700MB of RAM!!! What the heck is it doing this fore? What a dog of a program!
I love the interface, but am seriously considering demanding a refund for such a poor implementation.
I have never had this kind of problem before. CS2 and bridge run just fine. My machine is a P4-3GZ with 1GB Ram, and lots of HD space.

    > I imported my photo collection, which is just under 29,000 pictures. It took hours to do this. What is this program doing?
    >Importing, and probably creating previews.
All I wanted it to do was add the folders that my pictures are in. This should take very little time as all it should need to do is learn the folder paths. The entire concept of a catalog of pictures seems overkill, since windows already has file management built it, which most other viewers/converters/databases use. Also I specifically told it not to create previews.
    > My database file is over 320 MB, and I have not even done anything yet!
    >Yeah you have - you've imported your images and all their associated metadata into a newly-created database.
OK, I guess I can see how it would add up if it takes all the metadata from each image and adds them all to one file. At even 10kb per image, than is already 300MB worth of data.
    > Plus, it created 29,000 subfolders, with a file in each.
    >They're called previews.
I never asked for previews of everything. RAWs have built-in jpg preview. That is all I need for most things. When I want a better preview I want to tell it that. Also, why create previews of JPG files? This is just redundant. A large percentage of my pictures are JPG. And yet it is still slow with these. They take as long, if not longer, to view in the loupe mode as RAW files.
    > Why is it creating all this overhead!?!
    >Because you asked it to (render standard previews on import).
I never asked it to do this. I unchekced that option when I imported my folder structure.
    > Not only that, but when LR gets bogged down,...
    >Do you have autowrite xmp set to on? Look at the top of the forum. Shut this feature off.
This feature is turned off, and has been since the beginning before importing my folder structure.
    > CS2 and bridge run just fine.
    >Bridge is a file browser, not a database.
Well, LR is touted as "an efficient way to import, select, develop, and showcase large volumes of digital images." And is aimed directly at pro and serious amateur photogs. These are the type of people, myself included, who have very large volumes of pictures. So far, I don't see anything "efficient" about LR and how it imports, selects, and showcases images.
ACDSee is also a database, and a viewer, and a RAW converter, and a file editor. Yet it does not have the incredible overhead of LR. So far, I have found that LR creates a large database file, a sub-folder for each image, a preview file for each image, and then finally an XMP file for each image I make changes to. So theorectically, that is adding 29000 folders and 58000 files, just for me to be able to see my images in LR. What the heck? What a waste of HD space, and it just increases the overhead when trying to open the program and browse through the pictures.
