Unbreakable Linux/Oracle question

Hi,
I set up Unbreakable Linux, and was following the instructions to evaluate Oracle RAC 10g.
I changed my mind about setting up the RAC, I would just like to install Oracle on Unbreakable Linux. My question may sound dumb, but does anyone know if the download for Unbreakable Linux comes with Oracle 10G packages? I need to know if I need to download the Oracle 10G database for Linux, or is it already included in Unbreakable Linux download?
Thanks,
Zach

I need to download the Oracle 10G database for Linux,
or is it already included in Unbreakable Linux download?Unbreakable Linux download is the Operating System only, 10g DB is not included.

  • Help starting Unbreakable Linux and Oracle

    Hello
I am getting ready to install Unbreakable Linux on a 70GB hard drive is that enough space?
I will be multibooting Windows 2003 Server 10GB, XP 30GB and Unbreakable Linux 30GB on the 70GB hard drive.
    These are my questions:
1)When I had installed Fedora installed the autopartition configured my partition automatically like this using Grub. Will Unbreakable Linux's autopartition do this the same way that Fedora did, what would I have to do to set this up :
    VG VolGroup00 30720m VolGroup
    LV LogVol01 992m swap
    LV LogVol00 29728m ext3

    8) Do I run startx to get the gui if not then what?
    9) How do I get help if I have a problem setting up any of the above?

I am getting ready to install Unbreakable Linux on a 70GB hard drive is that enough space?Yes, definitely.
1)When I had installed Fedora installed the autopartition configured my partition automatically like this using Grub. Will Unbreakable Linux's autopartition do this the same way that Fedora did, what would I have to do to set this up :Not sure that if it will EL do automaticaly the same layout as Fedora but you have all informations so you can do manual partitioning.
2)Is Unbreakable Linux good for running Oracle and a web server, replication and Log shipping?Of course it is. Note Unbreakable Linux is a support program not a distribution.
    3) What web server runs on Unbreakable Linux and how difficult is it to install?AFAIK almost any major distribution is shipped with Apcache HTTP server.
So you can install HTTP server using package located in installation media.
Or you can download sources and compile your own configuration or preffered HTTP server (I preffer this option). Everything goes easy with manual: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/
    https://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/x8664-multi-install-guide/
    4) What kind of security is good for Unbreakable Linux? What exactly do you mean under "security" term?
    5) What kind of firewall is good for Unbreakable Linux ?Each distribution (including this one) is shipped with excellent stateful (of course stateless too :-) ) firewall called "iptables" which is included in Linux kernel. More info (documentation and HOWTOs) you can find at http://netfilter.org
    6) What kind of antivirus and spyware/malware is good for Unbreakable Linux ?There is some Linux antivirus SW for example AVG, NOD but viruses are very rare in the Linux world and most of them are just "Proof of concept". So at this time is client antivirus SW just waste of money.
Spyware and malware - forget about it when we speaking about Linux (at this time).
    7) What browser runs on Unbreakable Linux and where do I get it from?Graphic: Firefox, Konqueror, Nautilus Text: lynx, elinks - all these are included in Linux distribution.
    8) Do I run startx to get the gui if not then what? You can start X server automaticaly during boot. This is provided by default runlevel configuration in /etc/inittab file (in this case it's run level 5). If your server has default run level 3 and you want to start X server you can log as root, and temporary change the run level to 5 by command (init 5 or telinit 5).
There is not reason for starting X server when you are using Linux machine as database server or HTTP server.
    9) How do I get help if I have a problem setting up any of the above? There is Ubreakable Linux program: http://www.oracle.com/technologies/linux/ubl-faq.pdf
And for non critical issues you can also use public linux forums like this :-)

I see in this forum some solutions but none works for me (I´m installing Oracle Unbreakable Linux 5 x64) to solve this problem I put libXp lib but the problem is the same.
    The library is installed:
    [root@SRVAXILAB072 oracle]# ll /usr/lib64/libXp.so.6
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 Aug 16 18:10 /usr/lib64/libXp.so.6 -> libXp.so.6.2.0
    [root@SRVAXILAB072 oracle]#
But I think the installation process are searching in /usr/lib but I didn´t have the library in 32b I tried to copy to /usr/lib and another crazy ideas but didn’t work.
I read alot of post and guides for installation process but I didn´t see nothing to install Oracle in Oracle Unbreakable Linux 5
    Some ideas??
If not..... I will try with Oracle Unbreakable linux 4 :(
    Thanks
    Best Regards

Well, I've not been in touch with installs on linux myself for a long time, but it seems you need a few 32-bit libs. Try installing libXp-1.0.0-8.i386.rpm.

  • Is RDAC supported in Oracle Unbreakable Linux kernel 2.6.32-100.0.19.el5?

    Dear,
Is RDAC supported in Oracle Unbreakable Linux Kernel 2.6.32-100.0.19.el5?
If supported, please point to the download link.
We require this in order to plan for the OEL 5.5 kernel upgrade to ULK and to connect SUN SAN storage array 6180.
    Thanks,
    ...basha

From what I can gather you will need to compile the driver from source in order to use the RDAC driver with the UEK kernel. Chances are that it won't compile properly under the UEK kernel, which is more up to date than the RHEL kernel.
You will have to start the system from the supplied original RHEL kernel in order to use the binary IBM RDAC driver distribution. The following is available: http://www.lsi.com/sep/Pages/rdac/ds4000.aspx and http://www.lsi.com/sep/Pages/rdac/ds3000.aspx
You may however be able to use Multipath, which is build in also in the UEK kernel. To get the current supported configurations for IBM System Storage it is best to use the interoperability matrices located at http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/storage/product/interop.html. You can use the link to the "System Storage Interoperation Center (SSIC)" to query your specific configuration (http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/support/storage/ssic/interoperability.wss)

  • How to make Firefox access the internet from Oracle Ent. Unbreakable Linux?

    Hello
I have a Dell Duo Core x86 laptop that multiboots Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP and Oracle Enterprise Unbreakable Linux. I use Internet Explorer to
access my email while at the library so I know my laptop can access the internet. I just installed the Oracle Enterprise Unbreakable Linux in text mode and
I can still access the Internet but only if I use one of the Windows operating systems which is why I am keeping them for now. The reason is because when I
use Oracle Enterprise Unbreakable Linux, when I select Firefox to access the internet I get these messages:
    "Server not found
Firefox can't find server at www.hotmail.com
    -check address for typing errors
-if unable to load pages check network connection
-if computer or network protected by firewall make sure Firefox permitted to access
    web"
None of those reasons are true for not gaining access to the internet. I want to use Oracle Enterprise Unbreakable Linux from now which is why I installed
    but I need to know:
    1) Why do I get the "Server not found" and the other error messages when I try to access the internet using Firefox and what do I have to do to make Firefox
    access the internet successfully?

    Hi,
First you must confirm your laptop with Oracle Enterprise Unbreakable Linux can access internet.
Please open a terminal, input the following command
    1.ifconfig
    2.cat /etc/resolv.conf
    Regards

    2,Use up2date packages_name install from ULN.

  • Oracle 10g RAC on Oracle Unbreakable Linux 4, on 3 HP-DL380 Install Instruc

I am searching for installation assistance (ie install guide) for Setting up an OUL4 RAC Cluster, I have found instructions using a VMserver but am interested in using 3 HP-DL380 machines. Is there a guide detailing such an installation or should I attempt to utilize the VMserver install guide, ignoring the VM references in support of 3 specific machines?
Thank You for any assistance you can provide
    NickG

I guess I need to specify that I will be responsible only for the "OS" Side of management and installation of the system. Do I follow the standard installation, of a standard download of Oracle Unbreakable Linux on each of the 3 machines, and then continue with RAC cluster installation as explained in the above link?
    Thanks

can anyone please tell me from where can i install this?
    thanks

Which gcc is in your CD? List them all.
And yes, they are there. Unless someone gave you a rescue disk or stripped down live CD, in which case you need to thank the person who gave you that appropriately.
You need to search the CD/DVD and you need to learn how to install RPMs. Both can be learned by intelligent internet searches.

    Hi there,
My OS is "Oracle Unbreakable Linux" which is from ORACLE, when I tried to install oracle 10g release 1 , it got error as below:
    [oracle@O10gR1 Disk1]$ ./runInstaller

Can somebody tell me if unbreakable linux is compatible to oracle 10g release 1 ?
    Thanks

Oracle 10gR1 is certified with OEL, you might have using old downloaded installer, that's why you getting error. Download new installer from otn.oracle.com.
    OR
you just need to execute runInstaller with -ignoreSysPrereqs switch:
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
    OR
    Update oraparam.ini in STAGE_AREA/Disk1/install

    emctl start dbconsole

There is so much you aren't telling us. For example, if you created a user "oracle" to be the Oracle software owner and install the Oracle software with, there will be a directory named /home/oracle. Inside this directory will be a file called .bash_profile. You can put lines like export ORACLE_HOME=, export ORACLE_BASE= and export ORACLE_SID= so that your environment is set up when you login. Jeff Hunter has a lot of information like this on his website. Check it out.

  • -- Oracle Unbreakable Linux hangs during installation  --

    Hi
I am trying to install the new Oracle Unbreakable Linux on a 2 CPU Intel Pentium 4 64 bits server. During the first CD installation it hangs just after you select if you want to install using the graphical mode or the character base mode (it hangs in both modes). The point where it fails is
    mounting /tmp as ramfs....... done
    running install...
    running /sbin/loader
Has anybody experience the same behavior or do you have any suggestions?
This error does not happen when I try to install either SUSE 9 or 10 nor Red Hat 3 or 4,
so I do not think is the hardware.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Ok. New update. I had rejiggered my desktop hard-drives and the DVD drive and in the process had not set the proper Master / Slave settings on the DVD drive. After I fixed that, it did start installing.
I selected the Server configuration and later selected the "Install everything" option. It failed after about 30 minutes while installing the snmp package. It said that it was a serious error due to media error or no disk space. Both of which seemed improbable because the media test resulted fine and I had 160 GB of Hard disk space !. I had to abandon ( well no choice actually ) and restart. This time I chose the Workstation configuration and just added the scientific packages. This time it installed ok, but, new problem.
I do not see ANY applications at all in the Applications drop down menu. Not even as root.
Hmmm. I would hate to start digging around in gnome. It is a distraction from what I really intend to do. To start developing applications on 10g on Linux ! Damn.
    Any advise ?

  • How can i remove jdk1.4 install in oracle unbreakable linux.

I am able to comple java program in oracle unbreakable linux but not able to run program.this is simple hello world program there is no syntax problem .I am getting error:
Exception in thread Main java.lang.class format error:unrecognised class file version and i also checked :=> #javac -version

How can i unstall jdk1.4 gnu jdk/bin path and jdk 1.4 gnu java from with my system.
    Regards
    Prashansh Kumar

From what I understand, the problem is that your classes are compiled for a later version of Java. I'm not sure at this point that uninstalling Java 1.4 is the right solution - it may break important system functions.
I would rather try another approach first:
    # alternatives --config java
-> select the java version you want as default. If you want to install java 1.6 you can try the following:
    # yum install java-1.6*
    or just the runtime package
    # yum install java-1.6.0-openjdk
    For example:
    # java -version
    java version "1.4.2"
    # yum install java-1.6.0-openjdk
    # alternatives --config java
There are 2 programs which provide 'java'.
      Selection    Command
    + 1           /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2-gcj/bin/java
    *  2           /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-openjdk.x86_64/bin/java
Enter to keep the current selection[+], or type selection number: 2
    # java -version
    java version "1.6.0"
