Unchecked songs are syncing

I'm having this problem with both my iphone 5S and my iPad Mini Retina.  Somehow, songs that aren't checked and aren't on the playlists that I have synced are showing up on the devices.
On the Summary page in iTunes I have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos."  I do not have "Manually manage music and videos" checked.
On the Music page, "Sync Music" is checked, and "selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" is selected.  All of the other options are unchecked.
I have 3 playlists checked, none of which include the songs that I wish to keep off the iphone and ipad.  No artists, genres, or albums are selected.
I deleted the entire music library from the iphone and synced again, and am still having this problem.  Any helpful advice would be much appreciated!

Hey EricGleason,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your iPhone in relation to music. Does the music that appears on your device have a cloud symbol next to it when viewed in “Songs”? If so, it sounds like these songs are not yet downloaded to your phone. Instead, it sounds like you have the “Show All [Music]” setting enabled (by default in iOS 7):
iPhone User Guide

Just show music that’s been downloaded from iCloud. Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.
Thanks,
Matt M.

I have updated to iTunes 10 and now my unchecked songs are playing... I don't want this and can't figure out how to have it like it was before (not playing unchecked songs). Please help! I leave the unchecked songs in there b/c there will come a point in time where I want to listen to these songs but right now I don't.

yes, 10.3.1, iTunes already restarted, menu settings already like that and still it will play all unchecked songs (including the checked songs of course). Why even have check and unchecked if the program is going to play all of them anyway?!
    thanks for responding though...

  • My sis and I share the same library for iTunes but when she tries to uncheck my songs and syncs hers, my songs are synced to her iPod still making her delete my songs. What can she do?

So my sis and I share the same iTunes library on the comp, and when ever she wants to sync her music, she unchecks all my songs. But once she unchecked my songs and syncs hers onto her iPod, my songs are there still. We've unchecked all my songs manually but my songs still sync onto her iPod. I want to know what to do because she ends up deleting my songs and when ever I wanna sync my songs, it takes me forever. PLEASE HELP ME GUYS!!

How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer
Simplest way is to create a New User Account for each of you...
Each user will then have their own iTunes library.

  • Not all checked songs are syncing to my iPhone (no error messages)

I posted this question a month ago and didn't receive any replies. I'm hoping somebody stumbles upon it with a suggestion. Thanks!
My iTunes library shows 1743 songs, but ony 613 songs get synced to my iPhone. I'm using iTunes 8.1.1.10, iPhone 2.2.1, and Vista 64 Business.
I do have iTunes set to only sync checked songs, but less than 5% are checked (and I can see many checked songs in the iTunes music library that aren't on my phone). If I sync all, 18 more songs (a tiny amount) are added. No error messages are displayed after syncing, there aren't any warning symbols next to the songs in iTunes, I can play the "missing" songs fine from within iTunes, I've consolidated the music library (and I let iTunes keep the music folders organized), I do not have the "manually manage music" setting checked, and only a handful of songs were puchased from the Apple Store.
This has been going on since moving my music and phone to this new computer a few months ago.
    I'm stumped. Ideas? Thanks!

Well Chris and Katrina, that seems to have fixed it. Thank you.
Actually, it seems as if it was selecting the "All songs and playlists" radio button that did the trick. I thought (and it now appears incorrectly), that the radio button controlled which playlists were copied rather than which music was copied. I have a bunch of playlists that were created by a music cleaner that I didn't want on my phone (I don't want the playlists but I do want the music), but I'm happy to see 1,300 more songs being copied to the phone. Thanks.
PS (Chris), my comment that only 5% were checked was a typo; only 5% were unchecked. And excuse the claim as to the date of my previous post. Time flies staring at this screen!

  • Songs are syncing to phone but some songs not showing in the playlist, you have to manually search for them...

    Hi guys,
All music is syncing across from my purchased items to my phone... However, some are missing from the 'purchased' playlist and I can only come across them when scrolling through the 'Artist' or 'Song' menu. I then have to manually add them back to my purchased playlist.
Is there any way to stop this?
I want all my 'purchased' songs in that playlist and then have all of my other music from CDs in their individual ones (which works fine).
This happens for about 5/6 every time and it's a nightmare trying to work out which ones are missing so to speak unless I stumble upon then.
So basically, the songs ARE on the phone but not showing in the playlist, just to make that clear.
    Many thanks in advance...

This sounds very similar to an issue that I experienced.  There was a phantom 6G assigned to movies even when no movies were on my iPad.  I could make the phantom 6G come and go by checking/unchecking the "Sync Movies" box in iTunes.
First, try a system reset.  It probably won't fix your problem but it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
There is one other thing that you can try but I don't want to describe it unless the above doesn't help.

  • Need a 'How To' : How can I avoid that certain songs are synced??

Some songs should not be synced with my iPod touch.
    for example:
iTunes: song 1 and song 2
    iPod: only song 1
    Thanks

You could use the option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" to manage your iPod. Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively". This is particularly useful when your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod. When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to that playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync".
To sync the iPod from a selected playlist open iTunes and create a playlist to sync your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). Drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod.
Another way to is to use the check boxes in iTunes choose "sync only checked songs and videos" in the iPod Summary tab. A word of warning on this method however. Using unchecking to manage an iPod is an option (and works fine when you are working with a small number of specialised tracks such as Christmas songs) but only if you can live with the other things unchecking does:
Unchecked songs will be skipped when playing songs from the library or a selection. They will only play when individually clicked on.
Smart Playlists have an option that unchecked songs won't appear.
Unchecked songs will not be burned to CD.
Alternatively you could manage your iPod manually and simply drag the songs or playlists you want on the iPod from your iTunes library:

  • HT2729 Unchecked songs are showing up on my iphone. How can I remove them?

I've unchecked songs in my library but when I sync my iphone 5 they show up. What am I doing wrong? HELP!!!

So, if I understand you correctly, using your iPad, you downloaded some songs from iTunes and they don't show up in your iPad, but do in your iPhone?  I'm guessing you have Automatic Downloads in your settings menu turned on, which does let music, apps and books downloaded on one device appear on other devices sharing the same id.  Still, how one could download to the iPad and not have the songs there, is somewhat mysterious.
I would guess that when you sync your iPad, you do not have sync selected or all songs to your iPad selected, so they are not syncing there.
You can easily put the songs on your iPad.  With your iPad connected to your computer in iTunes, it's easy to sync songs to any device you run through that iTunes account, so once you've downloaded a song from iTunes, you can sync it to your iPhone, iPad and iPod.

  • Unchecked songs are being synced over to my iPod (Nano and Touch)

Hi everyone, I had to restore my Nano, and I had to move all the songs back over.. I noticed that when it synced, it moved ALL the songs over..
even the ones that are  UNCHECKED in the Itunes library..  on the Touch ( an old iphone 3) it is over the limit so I can't even sync it ..if I pull an album over.. same thing the ENTIRE track list is pulled with it..
I am using iTunes 10.. any suggestions?? (besides a hammer?? )

You probably have this "Sync only checked songs and videos" box unchecked.

  • Itunes says the songs are synced, but they are not on the ipod.

I recently erased everything off of my computer because it had a virus. I'm pretty sure this is why this has happened, but I have no idea how to fix it.
What's happened is my iPod has over 100 songs on it, but when connected to the computer it says it has zero. I figured "no big deal." But it was. When I went to sync my songs onto my iPod, something happened. From iTunes, when I click on my iPod to view the songs, it has only the ones that I had just synced. Then when I unplugged my iPod to listen to them, the newly synced songs weren't there.
I have no idea why uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes did this, since I've done that before when I was having problems with my computer. I would just use a different computer, but none are very convienient and it was a lot of songs that I tried to sync, so I'd have to import all of those into the other computer's library.
I really don't want to have to restore my iPod if there's another way to fix this problem, because I don't want to do that if it won't definitely work. I have a lot of songs there that are no longer in my library (backed up and still on the external server, but its a lot to import individually.) that are on my iPod that I would still like to have on it.
I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me. I have no clue what's wrong...

This Apple knowledge-base article may help address that issue.
Windows confuses iPod with network drive.

  • Songs are syncing, but won't play.

I've seen a few other threads of people having the same problems, but nobody is offering suggestions or fixes.
I've got a 4th Gen Nano that will download and sync all of my music, but some of it just won't play. The cover art will come up, along with the time-bar, then it'll sit and think about it for four or five seconds... then skip to the next song. It seems to be songs from the same albums that are affected.
Yes, I've reset and restored the iPod. Yes, I've taken all of my music out of iTunes, and put it back again. I've even deleted iTunes, and reinstalled it; then tried iTunes on a different computer. Nothing.
What makes this so annoying is that I KNOW it's the something on Apple's end with this iPod that's faulty, because these songs play on my PC (Musicmatch Jukebox), my PSP, my Macbook (on iTunes), on my iPod Nano 3rd gen, iPod Video, and iPhone. This is the ONLY device I've ever had this issue with, yet Apple keeps insisting that there's something wrong with my files, or that they are authorized or formatted properly, or something.
Anyone got any help on this one? =(

Ok I figured out something that fixed the problem I was having and you (TuxedoCartman) are having I think.
ctrl click all the songs that are giving you this problem, right click one when they're all selected and click "Create AAC version" I think it was, either create or convert.
Once I did that I deleted the original copies of the songs from the folders outside of the itunes library folder. Back in iTunes, click file and then show duplicates. Skip through everything in there and then delete any that have an exclimation before them. After that, I did the restore iPod stuff again.
All the songs that were doing this to me now play just fine. Hope this helps

  • Which songs are synced to my ipod, please help!

Earlier today i played my ipod and it had all the music on it i liked, this evening i added a few more songs to my itunes while my ipod nano was not connected. When i went to sync them together to add on my new songs, my itunes said something about being synced to another itunes and if i wanted to sync my origonal music, i ticked this box thinking it would still have all the music on i payed for and the songs i downloaded. Instead it came up with lodes of old songs that i deleted ages ago. I was thinking it may of been synced to another itunes a while ago and this has happaned before but i did the right thing then. I just really want the music back I have payed for and cant seem to get them by going to the store menu for some reasoon? please help

Your music will only be where you put it.  it should be on your computer and included in your regular backup of your computer.

  • I upgraded iTunes to version 11.0.5 but now it does not sync my songs properly.  Some songs are synced entirely, but other songs stop half way through.

I upgraded my iTunes software to version 11.0.5 but now it won't sync my songs properly, either on my iPod classic or on my new iPhone 4s.  The problem seems to happen with random songs: some songs will play through to the end, but other songs cut off part way through the song.  At first I thought my iPod was defective, but then it happened on my new iPhone 4s.  On my phone, I can see that the song is still playing, but the sound cuts off.  Can anyone tell me how to fix this?  Thank you.

This problem started last year when ios 8 was released. I think apple is trying to force users to buy music on iTunes store and that's why it's impossible to sync other music and also that's the reason why they haven't solved this serious problem. That's really disappoints me and i'm angry with apple because i have like 10 gb of music in mp3 and i can't sync music from iTunes to my iPhone.

  • Where songs are synced to

I have a very frustrating problem. When I make purchases from Itunes usually after syncing I can get to songs through the Artists menu but occasionally, after I sync, I can't get to the songs unless I go through the Album menu. The band's name never appears in the Artist list? Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thank you.

    Hey there,
One thing to check is to see if the song is listed as a compilation. To do this, find the song or group of songs by the missing Artists in iTunes and right->click "Get Info" from the Menu.
When the window pops up, head over to the "Info" tab and in the lower right hand corner you will see an option with a tick box that says "Part of a compilation." Make sure there is no check mark and if there isn't, put one there and then remove it again right away just to be sure it is not part of a compilation. Then hit "Ok". Do that for each missing artist.
After that, trying resyncing your iPod so it can update the song Info and see if that helps.

  • Playlists on iTunes are not syncing correctly with iPhone on iOS 7-only 48 of 134 songs on one playlist are appearing (all songs are checked and I've tried this both hardwire and wireless)...help!

So, I could use help from people who know mre about this than I do. I did a sync last night between iTunes on my Mac (latest version of iTunes) and my iPhone 5 running iOS 7. For some reason, about 90 songs in one of my playlists have disappeared.
The songs are all checked in the playlist in iTunes
The songs were all on the iPhone playlist prior to the sync
I've tried a sync again both by hardwire and wifi
I added a song to the playlist on iTunes and the song appeared in the iPhone playlist, but none of the other 90+ songs came back
I haven't checked my other playlists to see what is there and what isn't (I have lots of music, so this would take days to verify).
I've thought about managing my music manually, but I would have to rebuild everything from scratch on the phone which would take days and I'd never get everything back to the right place.
In as much as I'm otherwise liking iOS 7, the new iTunes app for iOS 7 has been a real pain. This is what's really put me over the edge on it!
If you all have any suggestions that could help, I'd really appreciate it! The playlist I'm referencing most specifically is my most-used playlist and I'd love to have it right.
    Thanks!

    Hi oxman78,
That definitely sounds frustrating! Let's give this a go to see if we can isolate the issue futher:
First, connect your device and choose the "Music" tab. Next, uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes (so there is ultimately no music syncing to your iPhone).
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPhone, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.

  • Unchecked songs in iTunes they are still on my phone

Then I disconnected and my phone froze. I plugged it back in, got the apple logo and it loaded again, but still it showed 825 songs on my iPhone while according to iTunes, I have 666 songs on my iPhone. What do I do?
All I wanted was to update my iPhone but as usual, Apple makes things 10x more complicated than they need to be.
Apple isn't making this 10x more complicated you are.
If you deleted the music why are you syncing back apps from other user on your computer?
Have you tried deleting the music directly from your phone and then update over the air?
