Uncle!!!

After four frustrating days of trying to install and use LR 2, it's time to
cut my losses. LR 1.4.1 has been working pretty well and should do fine for
me until this is sorted out. The steps I used that proved unsuccessful
included:
- Installing latest nVidia driver
- Stopping nView and related utilities
- Deleting 1.4.1 and 2.0 preferences
- Delete previews
- Unstalling both 1.4.1 and 2.0 and then reinstalling 2.0
- Optimizing the database
- Creating a completely new database and importing just the images
- Waiting long periods of time to see if a hang could make progress
- Turning off Indexing Services
- Repeating the steps above multiple times
A couple of times I thought I was close, but LR 2.0 simply can not handle a
large number of images (e.g. 46,000) on my computer. If I selected a small
subset of images, performance was pretty good, but any time I tried to
render preveiws for the entire database, it would hang.
I have a Windows XP SP3, dual core dual processor, 4GB memory, six drives
with a 4 drive SATA RAID. For some yet unknown reason, on this system as
configured, LR 2.0 simply will not perform well. Wish I could have seen
this through, but I've already wasted way too much time on this.

Yep, I agree. Just wanted to leave some breadcrubms for others who may be
experiencing the same problems. Basically, LR 2.0 was fine on small
databases, but was a pig on anything approaching 40,000 images. Perhaps
someone else will find the problem and post a solution.

How do you access apple mail on a pc? I am trying to find the answer for my technically challenged Uncle who is going to be traveling next week. I am a PC user and he is a Mac user.

My uncle is across the country and has turned to me for help on accessing his apple mail account on a pc. Is it as simple as having a web address and typing in his user name and password? His email ends with @sbcglobal.net, but both he and his wife can access all their mail on their mac. I have tried going through yahoo with his username and password, but it does not show all the same emails that he can see from his mac.

His email account is with SBC, the easiest way is to go their website to retrieve his email. Here is what I located, I recommend you bookmark it.
If you cannot see all of his emails then he probably has changed a setting in Email tool (Mail on his Mac) to delete mail off of the server. He can check that on his Mac by:
1. Opening Mail
2. Open Mail Preferences (shortcut is Command Key + Spacebar)
3. Click on Accounts tab
4. Click on Advanced tab
5. Set the preference for the box marked "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message."

It was not legitimately unlocked by the carrier it was originally locked to. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it.
In order to allow it to be used on a different carrier, the phone was hacked or jailbroken. An unauthorized modification was made to the phone. That modification has damaged the phone. You can not get support for it here or from Apple.

How do I replace my uncle's itunes library for mine (without deleting it!?)

The laptop I have my itunes on is breaking down slowly and I want to get more music on my phone but I can't use my laptop as it won't work.
My uncle's itunes library is on our computer but I don't want to sync with his stuff and lose mine. But I also don't want to delete his. How can I replace mine with his without deleting his own. I pretty sure he has his library on a computer at his house. (I've tried deleting itunes but it keeps coming back up with his stuff. And I've been stuck trying to figure this out for two hours! Please help, going away on holiday soon and would love to have new songs!!)

If you can, backup your library to a portable hard drive. You don't need to be able to run iTunes, but the laptop has to start. Normally all you need to do is copy off the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> to your external drive.
Otherwise first learn how to create an alternate library and then switch between multiple libraries so you can restore your Uncle's library when you're done. See iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one.
Create a new empty library for yourself, ideally at the root of a portable drive so you're all set to use it elsewhere on another computer. Then recover the data from your iPhone with this user tip. Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

About all you can do is take the device to an Apple Store along with the death certificate and explain the situation...if someone can do something, it would be them.

The phone MUST have a SIM present in order for activation to complete. The process will not finish otherwise.
For the OP:
If the iPhone 5 is locked to a carrier, you must use a SIM from that same carrier. Otherwise I think you would be OK borrowing the SIM to activate the phone.

I have a small problem, ever since I updated my adobe flash, every single time I load my web browser. Be it IE or Firefox or hell even Netzero's crap wb, it crashes the page I tried to open up.
I tried to find the flashplayer that was out prior to 10.2(whatever) but I can't seem to find it and am always redirected right to the newest one that has just come out.
I am at my wits end with this thing please someone help me out.

Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash Open the Flash folder and post back all files listed. The NPSWF files you will need to Right click on and Open, then click on Properties to obtain the Version numbers.
Then using IE, go to Tools, Manage addons and find Shockwave Flash Object, make sure it's Installed, Enabled and the same version of Flash Player that you have Installed. Let me know.
Using FF, go to all plugins and make sure Shockwave Flash plugin is Installed and Enabled. Let me know.
Test both browsers here and you should see the Flash Player logo animation(RED F spin)

Also the version of Flash Player will be displayed.
If you use adblock or adblock plus or any popup blocking software you may want to disable them since they block Flash Content.
Any Virus issues? If so which program removed them?
Go to this site and see if you have a Kill-bit set. Just look to see if that Key is there in Post#1. If it is, then in Post#4 at the bottom is the solution needed.

Activation Lock cannot be bypassed, you will have to recover the email and password used to activate it.

If you forgot your restrictions passcode then yuou have to:
- Restore from a backup that was make before you added the Restrictions passcode. If you restore from a backup made with the Restrictions passcode the Restrictions passcode is also restored.

A: There is no such thing as an unlocked iPhone 3Gs in the United States. ALL iPhone 3Gs's sold in the US are locked to AT&T. AT&T will NOT unlock iPhones, therefore it is not legitimately unlocked.
B: Sprint is a CDMA network as others have mentioned. They do NOT use SIM cards. The iPhone 3Gs will NEVER work on Sprint. Ever. It's not physically possible.
Either your Uncle misunderstood or he was mislead. Send it back and tell him to get his money back. Buy an iPhone in India from a supported carrier.

You'll need your uncle's iCloud ID and password to remove the iCloud activation lock.
If you cannot get these from his documents etc. then the phone is useless to you.
Look amongst his papers, computer files etc. and see if he stored his password somewhere safe.

Contact AppleCare (or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
I'm not exactly sure what procedures are in place for such events, but it may take a while and you may need to provide a death certificate and a note from the executor that the iPad has been willed to yourself.

Ran across the following scenario that I cannot get to work:
1. create a transactional node container
2. place the following document inside the container:

</config>3. using a 'replace node' query, replace node 'config/a/x' with an empty node named 'x' (in effect, this is a no-change)
4. query for the node 'config/b' => does not exist
Remarks:
1. You can make a small modification to the document in order to make the scenario succeed, which is to omit 'config/a/y' when putting the document. I.e., like the following:
<config>
     <a>
          <x/>
     </a>
     <b/>
</config>2. Could not reproduce the problem using only the dbxml shell.
So in the general case, the 'replace node' queries I wrote work. In this specific situation, when replacing a child that has a brother, a subsequent query for the uncle fails.
Could you please tell me what am I doing wrong?
